• Implementation of APIs on diferent platforms

  OK, this is basicly just about any non-default OS API running on all different OS. But for my example let´s consider platform Windows, API SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer). Actually this question came to my mind when I was reading about SDL. Originally, I thought that on Windows (and basicly any other OS) you must use OS API to make certain actions, like wrtiting to screen, creating window and so on, becouse that API knows what kernel calls and system subroutines calls it has to do. But when I read about SDL, I surprised me, becouse, you cannot make computer to do anything more than OS can, since you cannot acess HW directly, only thru OS API, from Console allocation to DirectX. So, my question actually is, how does this not-default-OS APIs work? Do they use (wrap) original system API (like MFC wraps win32 api)? Or, do they actually have direct acess to Windows kernel? Or is there any third, way in between? Thanks.

• Storing unique ID in UITableViewCell

  I have a table where there will often be two cells with the same title. I'm zooming in on a map whenever a cell in the table is clicked, so using the title as a unique identifier is out of the question. I already have a unique identifier, but I need to find a way to store it in a UITableViewCell object. I have been considering two options, both of which are poor, IMO. 1) store the unique ID as the text inside the text of the detailTextLabel property. 2) build a custom UITableViewCell class. I'm new to objective C, and I would essentially like to know if theres a third option that isnt as inefficient as #1, but not as involved as #2. Thanks

  I don't have a lot of experience with Jboss AOP and I'm just curious if it's possible to replace all calls like Field f = foo.class.getDeclaredField("bar"); f.set(object, value); with something like Field f = foo.class.getDeclaredField("bar"); FieldSetCaller.invoke(f, object, value); using Jboss AOP. FieldSetCaller is my own class. I need to replace all Field.set calls on the fly, without recompiling the code. Some third -party code I even cannot recompile because I don't have the source. I can achieve this using java asm framework and I'm wandering if Jboss AOP can do it as well. Just for information - my code is running on Jboss server 4.3.0

• How to convert an Info.plist file from mac os project to iphone project?

  I am developing an app for the iPhone OS devices, and am using a third-party engine which is not well documented but I've made great progress with it anyway. The problem: The engine's developer strongly urges extending from the existing template projects bundled with the engine, but the engine's Info.plist files are Mac OSX project Info.plist files. This is an iPhone engine, and so I cannot understand why the Info.plist file is structured to take keys for Mac OS apps, but that's how it is. I did a FileMerge comparison to ensure there was nothing within the file itself that defined its use for one OS or the other, so I guess it's defined somewhere in the project settings. Edit - Opening the plist file in Xcode or Property List Editor and then trying to add a key such as "Icon already includes gloss and bevel effects" will not work in this iPhone project because it is not in the list. However, "Cocoa Java Application" and others are available!

• Is there a way to write System.Drawing.Graphics to PDF from C#?

  I have a whole bunch of 2D graphics that is being used for both rendering controls on screen and used to print, it's pretty custom graphics that couldn't be done by any 3rd party reporting tools or off the shelf controls. The program can generate PDF files of the printed content but when I wrote it I cheated and just print the Graphics object to an in memory image and then embed that into the PDF page. Since the users are emailing the documents they're finding they are too large. I've started writing the PDF from scratch using iText, however is there a way to get System.Drawing.Graphics content directly into PDF? The way iText works and Graphics works is completely different.

• Is there any ready-made calendar control for iPhone apps?

  I am building an applicaiton for the iPhone that will display upcoming and past events. I settled for a list view, but then I realized that a calendar (just like the one displayed in the "month" view in the built-in Calendar application) would be a best match (that is, this one). However, the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines just mentions the Date Picker, not the calendar, so I believe there is nothing like that out of the box. Is that true? If so, does anyone know of a third-party control that could be used? (I could write one myself, but I'd rather pick up something ready, since this is a departure on the original project plans). Basically: I have a long vector of variables: names <- c("first","second", "third") I have some data, and I now need to add the variables. I could do: data$first <- NA But since I have a long list, and I would like an automated solution. This doesn't work. for (i in 1:length(names)) (paste("data$", names[i],sep="") <- NA) The reason I want this, is that I need to vertically merge to dataframes, where one doesn't have all the variables it should have.   Hello, for my spring-mvc application I created several types of configuration (unittest, integration, qa, production). All the configs are in one war-file, so there is only one type of application I create. Which configuration to take should be decided by the server, where the application is running. To decide what kind of configuration should be used, I have to look into a file. After that I can decide which configuration should be used by spring mvc. For now by convention there is always the -servlet.xml used. Is there a way how to decide dynamically which config to take? Regards, Michael

• How to let an average user design a boolean expression graphically

  In our application there's a list of customers, and a list of keywords (among other things). Each customer can have a number of keywords, but it's not mandatory. So for instance, one customer can have the keywords "retail" and "chain", one can have only "contractor" and a third can have none at all. I want to let the user make a selection of customers based on these keywords, but not having to write (retail AND chain) or contractor and not wholesale I would like to make it as user-friendly as possible, and ideally with only "simple" controls, like checkboxes, comboboxes etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to design this? Or maybe some examples of applications where there are similar functionality?

  I am at a new company and one of our goals is to implement a document search portal for our team and our clients. I am a bit worried that if we use an external service provider like Salesforce or some other ECM in the cloud there will be a lot of integration work in the future. From a client perspective, these documents will also exist in the same bucket as our structured content (stored in the DB, not a MS Word doc). If you have implemented document searching, what languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used? Do you have any failure stories? I don't have a problem using something out of the box, but I think it is important that we have control over the documents and the API to access them. I would like to use Rails if we go fully custom.

  Hello, i often work on private projects using the WinApi, and as you might know, it has thousands of named and typedefed structs like MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION. I will stick to this one in my question, what still is preferred, or better when you want to name a variable of this type. Is there some kind of style guide for this case? For example if i need that variable for the VirtualQueryEx function. Some ideas: MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memoryBasicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memory_basic_information; Just use the name of the struct non captialized and with or without the underlines. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION basicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION information; Short form? MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION mbi; I often see this style, using the abbreviation of the struct name. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION buffer; VirtualQueryEx defines the third parameter lpBuffer (where you pass the pointer to the struct), so using this name might be an idea, too. Cheers

  I have two ActionScript 3 projects, game(.swf) and minigame(.swf). At runtime the main game loads the minigame via Loader. I also have a shared library (SWC) of event classes, included by both, which minigame will need to dispatch and game will need to listen to. First: Is this possible this way? Second: What will happen if I compile the minigame, then change the event classes so they're incompatible, then compile the main game. Will Flash crash when trying to load the minigame SWF? (I hope so) Third: And what will happen if I change the event classes, but in a way that preserves interface-level compatibility?

• environment configuration for tests running in NUnit

  I have some integration tests that hit a webserver and verify certain functionalities. Depending on the build environment, the server will be at a different address (http://localhost:8080/, http://test-vm/, etc). I would like to run these tests from a TFS build. I'm wondering whats the appropriate way to configure these tests? Would I just add a setting to the config file? I'm doing that currently. Incidentally we do have a separate branch per test environment, so I could have a different config file checked in for each environment. I wonder if there is a better way though? I'd like the build project to be able to tell the test what server to test. This seems better because then I don't have to maintain config information on a per branch basis. I believe I'd be using NUnit for Team Build (http://nunit4teambuild.codeplex.com/) to get NUnit/TFS to play together.

  I'm a relatively newbie to PHP and just making my way through the W3Schools tut. The tut makes a big point of saying you must always filter external data (i.e. cookies, form data etc). I'm writing a fairly simple system that talks with a third party Joomla extension. It's at a prototype stage where I'm just wanting to demonstrate the functionality in a minimum viable product. Basically, I'd like to know... what's the worst that could happen in I don't filter content. Are we talking 'I might get a bunch of spam', or 'a good hacker could get root server access'?   Is there a built in procedure to digitally sign an HTTPS request with client's SSL private key in .net? Also, is there a built in procedure to verify the digital signature against an SSL certificate? Or do I have to roll my own? Or is there a third party library? I need the request to be digitally signed because the client manipulates money, so I want to be sure that the request really comes from the client and that nobody tampers with the content of the request. I'm also considering using SSL client certificate, but it can only provide confidentiality and authentication, but not data integrity.

• Best way to identify and dispose locked thread in java.

  I have to call a function 3rd party module on a new thread. From what I've seen, the call either completes quickly if everything went well or it just hangs for ever locking up the thread. What's a good way to start the thread and make the call and wait for a few secs and if the thread is still alive, then assuming it's locked up, kill (or stop or abandon) the thread without using any deprecated methods. I have something like this for now, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it and I want to avoid calling Thread.stop() as it's deprecated. • PHP code cannot see query string param on return in Facebook oAuth flow

  I am doing some integration with Facebook Open Graph using their oAuth flow and having issues with parsing query string parameters they return. On my callback URL, they pass back an "access_token" parameter with a hash (#). so the callback would be: http://mydomain.com/callback.php#access_token=foobar123 where foobar123 is my access token I'm trying to parse out. However, no matter what I do, my PHP code cannot see if and I've done every debug trick I know (even using phpinfo() to go through everything). The URL is stated only as http://mydomain.com/callback.php. It's as if the rest of the URL isn't really there! This code returns nothing: $token = $_REQUEST['access_token']; Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm obviously missing something simple.

An XML file may contain content of several schemas, like this: <outer xmlns="my.outer.namespace" xmlns:x="my.third.namespace"> <foo>hello</foo> <inner xmlns="my.inner.namespace"> <bar x:id="bar">world</bar> </inner> </outer> Given a namespace the corresponding xsd file can be provided, but the used namespaces are unknown before parsing. If a schema defines default values for attributes, I also want to know that somehow. I was able to validate a file if the schemas are known, I was able to parse a file without validation and I implemented a LSResourceResolver. However, I can't get all of it working together. How do I have to set up my (SAX) parser?
