  Using aspnet mvc2 with the model auto-generated by entity framework: Is it possible to tell entity framework to auto-annotate all fields? eg: If database field says not null then add [Required] If DB field is a nvarchar(x) then add [StringLength(x)] And so on? What if the field name contains the string "email" eg CustomerEmail - can I get EF to auto-annotate that with an appropriate annotation ([Regex()] maybe) As I understand it, if the model fields are annotated, and I use both Html.ValidationMessageFor() and use if (ModelState.IsValid) in my controller, then that is all I need to do to have basic clientside input validation working? • Generating Component SEF URLs in Joomla

  I have a custom Joomla component and a router for building my SEF URL's for use within the site, and everything is usually shiny - internally, all of my links look and act fantastic. I recently route a controller action that sends a list of links through email, and I've noticed that my URLs are coming out.... funky - hopefully someone can tell me why. Usually, my router generates an internal link that looks like this: http://localhost/Registry/calendar/265889635/Some-Long-Boring-Event However, when I send an email and preparing the same URL through the same router I get: http://localhost/Registry/Registry/component/calendar/569555803/Some-Long-Boring-Event Has anybody run into this issue before?

• Producer Consumer Issue with Core Data

  I've a Core Data application. In the producer thread, I pull data from a web service and store it in my object and call save. My consumer object is a table view controller that displays the same. However, the app crashes and I get NSFetchedResultsController Error: expected to find object (entity: FeedEntry; id: 0xf46f40 ; data: ) in section (null) for deletion on the console. When I debug it, everything works fine. So I understood that it's like a race issue. How is these kind of problem solved? What's the best way to design a producer-consumer app with core-data?

• Android Stream Data Over Wifi?

  Im trying to make an app for android that will stream the data of the accelerometer to be used as a game controller on my pc over a local wifi connection. Is it possible to make some kind of wifi stream of the accelerometer values in the android app and then make the pc somehow 'read' this stream? Or would it just be better for the pc to make endless calls to the phone getting the newest accelerometer values from a local android server? It would also have to send commands from the phone such as 'button1 pressed', 'button1 released'.

• How to deal with many to many relationships with NSFetchedResultsController?

  OK so I have two entities in my data model (let's say entityA and entityB), both of these entities have a to-many relationship to each other. I have setup a NSFetchedResultsController to fetch a bunch of entityA. Now I'm trying to have the section names for the tableview be the title of entityB. sectionNameKeyPath:@"entityB.title" Now this causes a problem, where by the section name returned from that relationship appears to be ({title1}) or ({title1,title2...titleN}) obviously depending on how many different entityB's are involved. This doesn't look great in a tableview and doesn't group the objects as I would like. What I would like is a section per entityB title with entityA appearing under each section, under multiple sections if necessary. I'm at a loss as how I am supposed to achieve this whether I need to update the predicate to get the entity to appear multiple times or whether I need to update the section and header functions to do some processing as the controller loops through the objects. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks

  I am currentlly trying to design a RESTful MembershipsController. The controller action update is used only for promoting, banning, approving,... members. To invoke the update action the URL must contain a Parameter called type with the appropriate value. I am not too sure if that is really RESTful design. • Rails flash hash violation of MVC?

  I know Rails' flash hash is nothing new, but I keep running into the same problem with it. Controllers should be for business logic and db queries, not formatting strings for display to the user. But the flash hash is always set in the controller. This means that I need to hack and work around Rails to use Helpers that I made to format strings for the flash hash. Is this just a pragmatic compromise to MVC or am I missing something here? How do you deal with this problem? Or do you not even see it as one?

  Hi, i have a 'User' model which has a has_many relationship to a 'Number' model through a join table 'user_number' model. I use accepts_nested_attributes_for :numbers, :allow_destroy = true in the 'User' model. Everything works fine except that whenever i delete a number from a user in the edit form, the associated number is deleted correctly in the 'number' table, but not the entry in the 'user_number' join table. In the update controller action i only use this: ... if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) ... How can i force rails to also delete the associated entry in the join table?

  Here is my use case I have a search model with two actions search_set and search_show. 1 - A user loads the home page which contains a search_form, rendered via a partial (search_form). 2 - User does a search, and the request goes to search_set, the search is saved and a redirect happens to search_show page which again renders the search_form with the saved search preferences. This search form is different than the one if step1, because it's a remote form being submitted to the same action (search set) 3 - Now the user does another search, and the search form is submitted via ajax to the search_set action. The search is saved and executed and now I need to present the result via rjs templates (corresponding to search_show). I am told that if the request is xhr then I can't redirect to the search_show action? Is that right? If yes, how do I handle this? Here is my controller class http://pastie.org/993460 Thanks

What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. • UITableView via NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, select first record by default?

  I have a UITableView that gets populated from CoreData via a controller that implements NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate. How can I have it automatically select the first row (and fire the tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath message)? The tableview is used for a variety of predicate queries, so I'm suspicious of solutions that work on the UIViewController lifecycle (viewDidLoad, etc), but I'm new to the platform, so I'm open. I've tried a variety of things, but I'm not sure where in the call stack to put it. I've tried calling cell.selected = true inside tableView:cellForRowAtIndex: method, but that just ends up turning the cell black (and doesn't fire the selected callback method) A tagent question, with all the delegating and core data protocols, does it imply asynchronous data fetch (multiple threads)? Or is the NSFetchedResultsController calling all its related methods in the same thread? Maybe I'm just scared that if it is async, there would be race conditions that would be tough to troubleshoot later.

  Hi, I'm customizing my image picker controller and I want to have a full-screen viewfinder. I think this might be pretty an old topic and I found an answer here: http://www.gorbster.net/blog/archives/144 But what I want to know is if there's a way to achieve this without distorting the scale of the image. If I scale that clipped preview image, I'm distorting its original x-y ratio, and I want to avoid it. Is there a way to prevent the preview image from being clipped so that I could retain the original 1200x1600 ratio? Thanks!

Router::connect('/:action', array('controller' => 'nodes')); Now, I got the thing going but when I click on the links, the url in browser appears like www.example.com/nodes/main www.example.com/nodes/about Is there some way where I can get the urls to appear the way they are routed? The problem is I'm normally submitting a bunch of values normally like this: curl -d "firstname=bob&lastname=smith&age=25&from=kansas&someothermodelattr=val" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" http://mysite/people.xml -i The problem with this is my controller will then have code like this: unless params[:firstname].nil? end unless params[:lastname].nil? end // FINALLY @person = People.new(params[:firstname], params[:lastname], params[:age], params[:from]) etc.. What's the best way to simplify this? My Person model has all the validations it needs. Is there a way (assuming the request has multi-model parameters) that I can just do: @person = People.new(params[:person]) and then the initializer can take care of the rest?

  I have page consisting of a calendar view ( http://code.google.com/p/calendardateselect/ ) as well as divs, each of which contain information about a person. In each div I want to have a link to a new controller and action, and pass the id for the person and the date selected in the calendar. I can think of a one way, but I'm thinking there's likely a better solution: 1) Do something like: =link_to_function "Week", "weekClicked(#{person.id})" Then in the weekClicked() javascript method I get the selected date from the calendar, such as: $('e_date').selected_date; then with javascript I could make a post request as mentioned here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/133925/javascript-post-request-like-a-form-submit 2) Or, is there a way that I could make each link a button in it's own form and maybe have a hidden field that gets the selected date from the calendar as or before the form is submitted? I tried this too, but couldn't figure it out. This definitely seems like it's more on the right track than #1. Thanks.
