• NSNumberFormatter to display custom labels for 10^n (10000 -> 10k)

  I need to display numbers on a plot axis. The values could change but I want to avoid too long numbers that will ruin the readability of the graph. My thought was to group every 3 characters and substitute them with K, M and so on (or a custom character). So: 1 - 1, 999 - 999, 1.000 - 1k, 1.200 - 1.2k, 1.280 - 1.2k, 12.800 - 12.8k, 999.999 - 999.9k, 1.000.000 - 1M, ... Note that probably I'll only need to format round numbers (1, 10, 1000, 1500, 2000, 10000, 20000, 30000, 100000, ...). Is that possibile with NSNumberFormatter? I saw that it has a setFormat method but I don't know how much customizable it is. I'm using NSNumberFormatter cause the graph object I use wants it to set label format and I want to avoid changing my data to set the label.

• complex mysql query problem

  Hey guys I have a query that selects data and organizes but not in the correct order. What I want to do is select all the comments for a user in that week and sort it by each topic, then sort the cluster by the latest timestamp of each comment in their respective cluster. My current query selects the right data, but in seemingly random order. • Working examples of winform/WPF apps

• What CPAN module can summarize error logs?

  I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active i plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that i could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

• How do you protect code from leaking outside?

  Besides open-sourcing your project and legislation, are there ways to prevent, or at least minimize the damages of code leaking outside your company/group? We obviously can't block Internet access (to prevent emailing the code) because programmer's need their references. We also can't block peripheral devices (USB, Firewire, etc.) The code matters most when it has some proprietary algorithms and in-house developed knowledge (as opposed to regular routine code to draw GUIs, connect to databases, etc.), but some applications (like accounting software and CRMs) are just that: complex collections of routine code that are simple to develop in principle, but will take years to write from scratch. This is where leaked code will come in handy to competitors. As far as I see it, preventing leakage relies almost entirely on human process. What do you think? What precautions and measures are you taking? And has code leakage affected you before?

• Why does Spring Security's BindAuthenticator require read permissions for users?

  Hi all, I'm currently implementing/configuring the LDAP authentication of a Java web application using Spring Security 3.0. I'm using Microsoft AD LDS as LDAP server and chose the Spring's BindAuthenticator. I found out that the authentication only works if the authenticated user is a member of the partition's Readers role. The BindAuthenticator tries to read the user's attributes after the authentication, which seems reasonable in scenarios where authorities are retrieved from the directory service. Being new to LDAP and AD, is this an acceptable practise when the application is integrated in an existing AD structure? Can fine-tune an give the user dns only read permissions for their own attributes rather than adding them to the Reader group? Thanks Thomas

  I am trying to write a query that connects 3 tables. The first table is info about each festival The second table is the number of votes for each festival The third table is reviews for each festival I want to join all 3 tables so i get all the feilds from table1, join table1 with table2 on the festivalid but i also need to count the number of records in table 3 that applys to each festival.   Hey Everyone, As a student in computer engineering I have been pressured to type up very detailed comments for everything I do. I can see this being very useful for group projects or in the work place but when you work on your own projects do you spend as much time commenting? As a personal project I am working on grows more and more complicated I sometimes feel as though I should be commenting more but I also feel as though it's a waste of time since I will probably be the only one working on it. Is it worth the time and cluttered code? Thoughts?

• Unescape _xHHHH_ XML escape sequences using Python

  I'm using Python 2.x [not negotiable] to read XML documents [created by others] that allow the content of many elements to contain characters that are not valid XML characters by escaping them using the _xHHHH_ convention e.g. ASCII BEL aka U+0007 is represented by the 7-character sequence u"_x0007_". Neither the functionality that allows representation of any old character in the document nor the manner of escaping is negotiable. I'm parsing the documents using cElementTree or lxml [semi-negotiable].   In Clojure, if I want to start a test cluster using the hbase testing utility, I have to annotate my dependencies with: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.92.2" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] First of all, I have no idea what this means. According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean? Question 2: If I upgrade the version: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.94.6.1" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] Then I receive a ClassNotFoundException Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.hbase.HBaseConfiguration Whats going on here and how do I fix it?

• How can I create a web based administration interface.

There would need to be a conf file per logged in user. and an administrator user for viewing all config files in his group. I'm wondering what technology is best to create this framework. • How to deal with many to many relationships with NSFetchedResultsController?

  OK so I have two entities in my data model (let's say entityA and entityB), both of these entities have a to-many relationship to each other. I have setup a NSFetchedResultsController to fetch a bunch of entityA. Now I'm trying to have the section names for the tableview be the title of entityB. sectionNameKeyPath:@"entityB.title" Now this causes a problem, where by the section name returned from that relationship appears to be ({title1}) or ({title1,title2...titleN}) obviously depending on how many different entityB's are involved. This doesn't look great in a tableview and doesn't group the objects as I would like. What I would like is a section per entityB title with entityA appearing under each section, under multiple sections if necessary. I'm at a loss as how I am supposed to achieve this whether I need to update the predicate to get the entity to appear multiple times or whether I need to update the section and header functions to do some processing as the controller loops through the objects. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks

  hey guys, just having a bit of difficulty with a query, i'm trying to figure out how to show the most popular naturopath that has been visited in a centre. My tables look as follows; Patient(patientId, name, gender, DoB, address, state,postcode, homePhone, businessPhone, maritalStatus, occupation, duration,unit, race, registrationDate , GPNo, NaturopathNo) and Naturopath (NaturopathNo, name, contactNo, officeStartTime, officeEndTime, emailAddress) now to query this i've come up with SELECT count(*), naturopathno FROM dbf10.patient WHERE naturopathno != 'NULL' GROUP BY naturopathno; which results in; COUNT(*) NATUROPATH 2 NP5 1 NP6 3 NP2 1 NP1 2 NP3 1 NP7 2 NP8 My question is, how would I go about selecting the highest count from this list, and printing that value with the naturopaths name?   I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself? (I need this to have a list of users and the functionality to filter them by role).

  Goal I'l like to get a list of unique FID's ordered by the the one which has most recently been changed. I initially tried: SELECT distinct `FID` FROM `tblHistory` WHERE 1 ORDER BY changeDate desc # Returns 150, 122, 194 using GROUP BY has the same result. I'm just barely a SQL amateur, and I'm a bit hung up. What seems to be happening is the aggregating functions find the first occurrence of each and then perform the sort. Is there a way I can get the result I want straight from mySQL or do I have to grab all the data and then sort it in the PHP?

  I am using a telerik radgrid so there are around 5 columns each column edittemplate contains a control along with a required field validator and also a property called AllowMultiRowEdit is set to true so i am able to multiple rows in edit mode. If any of the values are cleared the for multiple rows I want only those to be validated on update of that particular row. So i implemented the Grids item data bound event find each and every validator along with the update button and set a unique validation group. The above implementation most times but fails at some time. Is there any other way of going about this ?

• What is the best way when creating a Google Widget, to store the data for the Widget to be shared by

  I know this may end up getting closed quickly. I could not find this in my searching through APIs. And this is probably a very simple question but here we go... How do you store data on a google application you create in which you and others in a specific group or more specifically the people who can edit a specific calendar, can reach this data? Person A,B,C have read/write access to a calendar, and lets say they want to co-ordinate information. I want this information to not be accessible to modify by all 3 though it is not stored in a calendar? (Though I thought about just creating an event in 1900 and then that fullfills that, but at the same time is a very hack way to do it) I would appreciate any insight you can give me when it comes to data handling in google applications, I am very new to it, but have been looking into it.
