• Broken corba object references

  I'm working on a homework and got stuck. The task is to serve objects using a default servant. But when I try to use the reference, weird things happen. Some part of corba prints a stack trace, but no exception is thrown. The problem happens when the server receives the reference and should call some method on it. The reference is then shortened and doesn't contain the object ID (which means that my servant implementation can't do anything reasonable). • ASP.NET GridView - Cannot set the colour of the row during databind?

  This is driving me NUTS! It's something that I've done 100s of time with a Datagrid. I'm now using a Gridview and I can't figure this out. I've got this grid: <asp:GridView AutoGenerateColumns="false" runat="server" ID="gvSelect" CssClass="GridViewStyle" GridLines="None" ShowHeader="False" PageSize="20" AllowPaging="True"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="lbldas" Text="blahblah"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> And during the RowDataBound I've tried: Protected Sub gvSelect_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles gvSelect.RowCreated If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then e.Row.Attributes.Add("onMouseOver", "this.style.backgroundColor='lightgrey'") End If End Sub And it NEVER sets the row backcolor.. • How can I get SQL Server transactions to use record-level locks?

  We have an application that was originally written as a desktop app, lo these many years ago. It starts a transaction whenever you open an edit screen, and commits if you click OK, or rolls back if you click Cancel. This worked okay for a desktop app, but now we're trying to move to ADO.NET and SQL Server, and the long-running transactions are problematic. I found that we'll have a problem when multiple users are all trying to edit (different subsets of) the same table at the same time. In our old database, each user's transaction would acquire record-level locks to every record they modified during their transaction; since different users were editing different records, everyone gets their own locks and everything works. But in SQL Server, as soon as one user edits a record inside a transaction, SQL Server appears to get a lock on the entire table. When a second user tries to edit a different record in the same table, the second user's app simply locks up, because the SqlConnection blocks until the first user either commits or rolls back. I'm aware that long-running transactions are bad, and I know that the best solution would be to change these screens so that they no longer keep transactions open for a long time. But since that would mean some invasive and risky changes, I also want to research whether there's a way to get this code up and running as-is, just so I know what my options are. How can I get two different users' transactions in SQL Server to lock individual records instead of the entire table? Here's a quick-and-dirty console app that illustrates the issue. I've created a database called "test1", with one table called "Values" that just has ID (int) and Value (nvarchar) columns. If you run the app, it asks for an ID to modify, starts a transaction, modifies that record, and then leaves the transaction open until you press ENTER. I want to be able to start the program and tell it to update ID 1; let it get its transaction and modify the record; start a second copy of the program and tell it to update ID 2; have it able to update (and commit) while the first app's transaction is still open. Currently it freezes at step 4, until I go back to the first copy of the app and close it or press ENTER so it commits. • Need to hide displayed div when I show others

  I am stuck. I have a page with 3 buttons, the 3 buttons do a couple things - they change the style of a div, and they also show/hide a content div. The changing of the div style works fine, but I am having issues with the content div. If you land on the page and click the "Our Brands" tab, then click the other 2 tabs, it works fine. This works as follows: User clicks "Order now" in the windows app App uploads a file with POST to a PHP script The script immediately calls the PHP mail() function (order is not stored in a db) This works fine most of the time. However, sometimes a big delay occurs (several days). Customers calls why the product has not yet been delivered. They say the delay does not occur in their network (impossible). But they do confirm that the e-mail is first seen in their mail server on May 26, which is 7 days after the mail has been composed. The order is marked with the timestamp of the user's local PC, which also matches May 19 (so it's not a PC clock problem) It's also interesting to see that all delayed mails (orders were placed on different days) come in at once. So I suddenly receive 14 e-mail in my mailbox from various days. Any idea were this delay may be introduced? Could there be a bug in my PHP code that causes this? (I cannot believe I can introduce a loop of 7 days in my PHP code)

• MVC Persist Collection ViewModel (Update, Delete, Insert)

  In order to create a more elegant solution I'm curios to know your suggestion about a solution to persist a collection. I've a collection stored on DB. This collection go to a webpage in a viewmodel. When the go back from the webpage to the controller I need to persist the modified collection to the same DB. The simple solution is to delete the stored collection and recreate all rows.   I have a link button in a repeater control. the li element is drag and droppable using jquery. when the page loads the the link button works perfectly, the jquery that is attached and the server side code both execute. when I perform a drag and drop then click on the link button it doesn't not fire. when i click it a second time it does fire. Background: In the past I have used CODI's @ViewAccessScoped to preserve state between requests, and more recently I have started using flash scoped objects to save state. I can't use JSF @ViewScoped because I use CDI and they don't play well together. So I want to see if I can do this with only @RequestScoped backing beans. When the Save button is clicked, a new instance of Backing is built, and then there are a lot of calls to the getRecord() getter before the setID() setter is called. So the logic in getRecord() breaks because it cannot rely on the id property being valid when it is called. When this was a @ViewAccessScoped (or ViewScoped) backing bean, then both the id and record properties are already set when the form is processed with the commandButton. Alternatively you can save those properties in flash storage but that has its own problems I want to avoid. So is there a way to make this programming model work within the specification?

• Setting hidden input value in Javascript, then accessing it in c# codebehind

  Thank you for reading my question. I have been trying to set the value of a hidden input by using Javascript and then access the value from within my C# codebehind. When I run the code that is copied below, the value that is assigned to assignedIDs is "", which I assume is the default value for a hidden input. If I manually set the value in the html tag, then assignedIDs is set to that value. This behavior suggests to me that the value of the input is being reset (re-rendered?) between the onClientClick and onClick events firing. I would appreciate any help with the matter. • Edit of self referencing HABTM in cakephp works, sometimes

  I'm using a self referencing HABTM model with Participants. You sign up for an event and when you log in to your reservation/profile you see a list of other participants and you can choose to add yourself and others into various groups; share hotel room, share transportation from airport etc. What I've managed so far: 1) In my profile I see the list of all other participants with checkboxes. Great so far. 2) Adding another participant works fine. Next time I edit, the participant I added is shown as checked. 3) Removing another participant works fine too as long as you still have checked participants before you submit! Again, with words: There are 3 participants. I'm logged in as one of them, and I see the 2 other people on the participants list. I choose to check both of them. This works fine (always). Later I choose to remove one of them (by unchecking the checkbox and hitting submit). This also works fine (always). If I want to remove the last checkbox... nothing is updated (always!). What's curious is that I can add and remove any odd combination of participants and it will always work UNLESS I choose to remove every participants in one go (removing a one and only participant is a special case of "remove all checked participants"). As far as I know, HABTMs work by first deleting all relations, then re-saving them. I can see that in my tables when I remove, add, remove, add the same participant over and over again - the id on the HABTM table is always increasing. When I deselect all participants at once, however, the relations are not updated. The ids stay the same, so it's like the save never happened. This behaviour is so specific and peculiar, I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious here.   I tried the solution in my previous question (flattening XML to load via SSIS package), however this isn't working. I now know what I need to do, however I need some guidance on how to do it. So say I have the following XML structure: <person id="1"> <name>John</name> <surname>Smith</surname> <age>25</age> <comment> <comment_id>1</comment_id> <comment_text>Hello</comment_text> </comment> <comment> <comment_id>2</comment_id> <comment_text>Hello again!</comment_text> </comment> <somethingelse> <id>1</id> </somethingelse> <comment> <comment_id>3</comment_id> <comment_text>Third Item</comment_text> </comment> </person> <person id="2"> <name>John</name> <surname>Smith</surname> <age>25</age> <somethingelse> <id>1</id> </somethingelse> </person> ... ... If I am to load this into a SSIS package, as an XML source, what I will essentially get is a table created for each element, as opposed to get a structured table output such as person table (name, surname, age) somethingelse table (id) comment table (comment_id, comment_text) What I end up getting is: person table (person_Id <-- internal SSIS id) name table surname table age table person_name table person_surname table person_comment_comment_id table etc... What I found was that if each element and all inner elements are not in the same format and consistency, i will get the above anomaly which makes it rather complex especially if I am dealing with 80 - 100+ columns. Unfortunately I have no way of modifying the system (Lotus Notes) that produces these reports, so I was wondering whether I may be able to explicitly have an XSLT template that will be able to align each person sub elements (and the sub collection elements such as comments ? Unless there is a quicker way to realign all inner elements. Seems that SSIS XML source requires a very consistent XML file in the sense of: if the name element is in position 1, then all subsequent name elements within person parent have to be in position 1. SSIS seems to pickup the inconsistencies if there are certain elements missing from one parent to another, however, if their ordering is not right (A, B, C)(A, B, C)(A,C,B), it will chuck a massive fuss! • Output a php multi-dimensional array to a html table

  I have been banging my head against the wall with this one for nearly a week now, and am no closer than I was the first day. I have a form that has 8 columns and a variable number of rows which I need to email to the client in a nicely formatted email. The form submits the needed fields as a multidimensional array. But, I can't find any examples that will generate that type of table! • Setting hidden input value in Javascript, then accessing it in codebehind

  I have been trying to set the value of a hidden input by using Javascript and then access the value from within my C# codebehind. When I run the code that is copied below, the value that is assigned to assignedIDs is "", which I assume is the default value for a hidden input. If I manually set the value in the html tag, then assignedIDs is set to that value. This behavior suggests to me that the value of the input is being reset (re-rendered?) between the onClientClick and onClick events firing. I would appreciate any help with the matter. • How to resolve strange conflict between form post and ajax post?

  On the one page, I am trying to use ajax to edit existing values. I am doing this by using jQuery Inline Edit and posting away the new data, updating the record and returning with success. This is working fine. Next I have implemented the ability to add new records, to do this I have a form at the end of the table, which submits post data then redirects back to the original page. Each of them work individually, but after I have used the form to add a new record, the inline editing stops to work. If I close the webpage and reopen it, it works fine again until I have used the form and it goes of the rails again. I have tried a number of solutions, clearing session data, giving the form a separate name, redirecting to an alternative page (which does work, but is not ideal as I want the form to redirect back to the original location ).
