    For server side generated content, i18n support is usually pretty easy, for example, Java provides extensive i18n support. But, these rich server side libraries are not available within the browser, which causes a problem when trying to format data client side (AJAX style.) What javascript libraries and techniques are recommended for performing client side formatting and time-zone calculations? Also - beyond simple client side formatting, how can consistency be achieved when performing both server side and client side formatting?

  • At what point in the render process of a web page can we interact with that page

    I'd like to measure to distinct user experience points during the rendering of an HTML page: 1) Point which user sees the first painting of the page 2) Point at which user can interact with the page - meaning sees 75% of it or can actually register a button click or link click I am pretty certain these UX interactions can start before the HTML code is fully rendered, so would that instance be the JS func "OnLoad" or some other distinct measureable value/function? If it helps, we can even narrow the answer down to webkit based browsers.

  • MS Access Dropdown List/Combo Box

    This should probably be pretty simple but my Google-Fu is as yet unable to find an answer. I simply want to create a dropdown list in Access so that upon selection I can perform some action based on the value of the selection. For instance, I have a list of people and I would like to populate the combo box so that their names appear in the list but the "value" is set to their ID (the primary key).

    Inspired by this discussion, after some googling I wasn't able to find an answer to a pretty simple question regarding methods in Ruby: are they objects or not? There are different opinions here and there, and I would really like to hear, let's say, an in-depth explanation. I'm aware of Object#method method, which takes a method name and returns a Method instance, but, on the other hand, there's a similar thing you can do with blocks to make them into Proc instances, and blocks aren't objects, so what makes methods any different?

It would allow the you to let someone learning to program "play" while preparing them to write full fledged C programs.     I'm working with big blobs of JSON. These blobs change slightly over time and a revision history is kept. I'd really like to be able to do a visual diff on them, but my problem is they're being stored without any formatting at all - everything is on one line, so that makes it a little hard to see what changed.     I have a neural network written in Java which uses a sigmoid transfer function defined as follows: private static double sigmoid(double x) { return 1 / (1 + Math.exp(-x)); } and this is called many times during training and computation using the network. Is there any way of speeding this up? It's not that it's slow, it's just that it is used a lot, so a small optimisation here would be a big overall gain.

    I need to write a script that will recreate my opt folder if it gets deleted when I remove a package from it. Here's a link to my previous post: dpkg remove to stop processes Now, the issue I'm running into could be better described here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/03/msg00242.html I was thinking of just adding a postrem script which checks if an opt directory exists, and if not, creates one. My experience with shell scripts is pretty limited though..
