• Issue using GAE appcfg.py

  I get nothing out of appcfg.py besides the default output. I'm trying to upload some data to my development project with no luck at at all. From the instructions on the Google App Engine page the steps are as follows: Edit app.yaml update with appcfg.py make upload script upload with appcfg.py After step one I try to run the update and it never shows any success. The following commands product the same output: appcfg.py appcfg.py update appDir appcfg.py update appDir/ appcfg.py update /appDir If i try to follow the instructions from the appcfg.py output and type help upload and get: "help <action>" I get a response from the system, This command is not supported by the help utility. Try "update /?". cause I'm calling the system help command. If I use the command appcfg.py help upload I get the same result as just typing appcfg.py Can someone show me examples of the syntax to update the dev site, upload data to it and get appcfg.py to actually give help on its commands? Also I'm just assuming that the upload script and the .csv file that are being uploaded are in they myApp directory. Appreciate any help,

• What should a developer know before building a public web site?

  What things should a programmer implementing the technical details of a web site address before making the site public? If Jeff Atwood can forget about HttpOnly cookies, sitemaps, and cross-site request forgeries all in the same site, what important thing could I be forgetting as well? I'm thinking about this from a web developer's perspective, such that someone else is creating the actual design and content for the site. So while usability and content may be more important than the platform, you the programmer have little say in that. What you do need to worry about is that your implementation of the platform is stable, performs well, is secure, and meets any other business goals (like not cost too much, take too long to build, and rank as well with Google as the content supports). Think of this from the perspective of a developer who's done some work for intranet-type applications in a fairly trusted environment, and is about to have his first shot and putting out a potentially popular site for the entire big bad world wide web. Also: I'm looking for something more specific than just a vague "web standards" response. I mean, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS over HTTP are pretty much a given, especially when I've already specified that you're a professional web developer. So going beyond that, Which standards? In what circumstances, and why? Provide a link to the standard's specification. This question is community wiki, so please feel free to edit that answer to add links to good articles that will help explain or teach each particular point.

• jQuery Tools alert works once (but only once)

  I'm trying to build a simple alert mechanism with jQuery Tools -- in response to a bit of Javascript code, pop up an overlay with a message and an OK button that, when clicked, makes the overlay go away. Trivial, or it should be. I've been slavishly following http://flowplayer.org/tools/demos/overlay/trigger.html, and have something that works fine the first time it's invoked, but only that time. If I repeat the JS action that should expose the overlay, it doesn't. But if I cause showOverlayDialog() to run again, without reloading the page, nothing happens. If I reload the page, then the pattern repeats -- the first invocation brings up the overlay, but the second one doesn't. I'm obviously missing something -- any advice out there? Thanks!

In the liferay-hook.xml I added: portal.properties And in that hook.xml I added: auto.login.hooks=bla.bla.xyz bla.bla.xyz implements AutoLogin, but for now it's pretty gutted: @Override public String[] login(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws AutoLoginException { Object parameters = request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.query_string"); Map<String, String> x = parserClass.parsing(parameters.toString()); System.out.println("voornaam: " + geparsdeParameters.get("tokenvalue1")); try { return null; } catch (Exception e) { throw new AutoLoginException(e); } } Since the hook doesn't start when I add the filtering I removed it and just tried: http://localhost:8080/c/portal/login?tokenvalue1=55 but when I check my tomcat I see: Error XYZ Url: url myUsedUrl exception null Also I tried adding some util classes but I got: classnotfoundexceptions. Is there anything specific I have to do when I add extra classes in a hook? Any advice/input would be appreciated. Or someone's ear I could lend so I could mail them a little bit so I could pick their brain a bit would be really appreciated since I don't know anyone who programs for liferay.

• How to checkout from SVN with an ANT task?

  I'm interested in any way that I can create an Ant task to checkout files from SubVersion. I "just" want to do the checkout from the command line. I've been using Eclipse with Ant and SubVersion for a while now, but my Ant and SubVersion knowledge is somewhat lacking as I relied on Eclipse to wire it all together. I've been looking at SvnAnt as one solution, which is part of Subclipse from Tigris at http://subclipse.tigris.org/svnant/svn.html. It may work fine, but all I get are NoClassDefFoundErrors. To the more experienced this probably looks like a simple Ant configuration problem, but I don't know about that. I copied the svnant.jar and svnclientadapter.jar into my Ant lib directory. Then I tried to run the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <project name="blah"> <property environment="env"/> <path id="svnant.classpath"> <pathelement location="${env.ANT_HOME}/lib"/> <fileset dir="${env.ANT_HOME}/lib/"> <include name="svnant.jar"/> </fileset> </path> <typedef resource="org/tigris/subversion/svnant/svnantlib.xml" classpathref="svnant.classpath" /> <target name="checkout"> <svn username="abc" password="123"> <checkout url="svn://blah/blah/trunk" destPath="workingcopy"/> </svn> </target> </project> To which I get the following response: build.xml:17: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/tigris/subversion/javahl/SVNClientInterface I am running SVN 1.7 and SvnAnt 1.3 on Windows XP 32-bit.   Hello, guys. I've got annoyed problem. I've got WCF service(basicHttpBinding with Transport security Https). This service implements contract which consists 2 methods. LoadData. GetData. GetData works OK!. My client received pachage ~2Mb size without problems. All work correctly. But when I try load data by bool LoadData(Stream data); - signature of method I'll get (413) Request Entity Too Large. Stack Trace: Server stack trace: ? • Problem consuming Exchange Web Service 2010 with jax-ws metro

  I am trying to consume the Exchange 2010 Web Service interface using JAX-WS. I'm using JAX-WS 2.2 RI (Metro 2.0). 2.1 exhibited the same problem. I am running into trouble with Exchange, which returns "HTTP/1.1 415 Cannot process the message because the content type 'text/xml;charset=utf-8' was not the expected type 'text/xml; charset=utf-8'." as a reponse (2.1 quoted the charset value, otherwise same response). Apparently I need to dictate the exact Content-type header for Exchange to be happy. Is there a way for me to do this without forcing me to manually rebuild the dependency? I currently rely on published maven artifacts, and would like to continue doing this if at all possible. The consuming process is a regular J2SE app, with no containers in sight. I have control of the application and can add pretty much anything required to the applications scope, but can not add out-of-process items like proxy servers. The client classes were generated from local WSDL, but the charset specification is derived from constants declared in the jaxws RI implementation, not the generated code. The resulting HTTP transport is thus handled by the standard http/https client from Sun JRE5 or JRE6.

  Hi all, I am trying to get a matlab-compiled exe running on Azure cloud, and for that purpose need to get a v78.zip onto the local storage of the cloud and unzip it, before I can try to run an exe on the cloud. The program works fine when executed locally, but on deployment gives and error at line marked below in the code. • Does mod_php honor HEAD requests properly?

  The HTTP/1.1 RFC stipulates "The HEAD method is identical to GET except that the server MUST NOT return a message-body in the response." I know Apache honors the RFC but modules don't have to. My question is, does mod_php5 honor this? The reason I ask is because I just came across an article saying that PHP developers should check this themselves with: if (stripos($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'], 'HEAD') !== FALSE) { exit(); } but seeing as how browsers send HEAD requests for cache checking it seems unlikely to me that no book, docs, etc., advise PHP developers to do this check. I googled a second and not much turned up, other than some people saying they try to strange things like mod_rewrite/redirect after getting HEAD requests and some old bug ticket from like 2002 claiming that mod_php still executed the rest of the script by default. So I just ran a quick test by using PECL::HTTP to run http_head('http://mysite.com/test-head-request.php'); while having: <?php error_log('REST OF SCRIPT STILL RAN'); ?> in test-head-request.php to see if the rest of the script still executed, and it didn't. I figure that should be enough to settle it, but want to get more feedback and maybe help clear up confusion for anyone else who has wondered about this. So if anyone knows off the top of their head (no pun intended) - or have any conventions they use for receiving HEAD requests, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll grep the C source later and respond in a comment with my findings. Thanks.

• How should I implement lazy session creation in PHP?

  By default, PHP's session handling mechanisms set a session cookie header and store a session even if there is no data in the session. If no data is set in the session then I don't want a Set-Cookie header sent to the client in the response and I don't want an empty session record stored on the server. If data is added to $_SESSION, then the normal behavior should continue. My goal is to implement lazy session creation behavior of the sort that Drupal 7 and Pressflow where no session is stored (or session cookie header sent) unless data is added to the $_SESSION array during application execution. The point of this behavior is to allow reverse proxies such as Varnish to cache and serve anonymous traffic while letting authenticated requests pass through to Apache/PHP. Varnish (or another proxy-server) is configured to pass through any requests without cookies, assuming correctly that if a cookie exists then the request is for a particular client. I have ported the session handling code from Pressflow that uses session_set_save_handler() and overrides the implementation of session_write() to check for data in the $_SESSION array before saving and will write this up as library and add an answer here if this is the best/only route to take. My Question: While I can implement a fully custom session_set_save_handler() system, is there an easier way to get this lazy session creation behavior in a relatively generic way that would be transparent to most applications?

• .Net website create directory to remote server access denied

  I have a web application that creates directories. The application works fine when creating a directory on the web server, however, it does not work when it tries to create a directory on our remote fileserver. The fileserver and the webserver are in the same domain. I have created a local user in our domain, "DOMAIN\aspnet". The local user is on both servers. I am running my .Net app pool under the domain user. I have also tried using windows impersonate in the web.config to run under the domain user. I have verified that the domain user has full control to the remote directory. In an effort to debug this I have also given the "everyone" full control to the remote directory. In an effort to debug this I have also added the domain user to the administrators group. I have a simple .net test page on the web server to test this. Through the test page I am able to read the directory on the file server and get a list of everything in it. I am not able to upload files or to create directories on the file server. Here's code that works: var path = @"\\fileserver\images\"; var di = new DirectoryInfo(path); foreach (var d in di.GetDirectories()) { Response.Write(d.Name); } Here's code that doesn't work: path = Path.Combine(path, "NewDirectory"); Directory.CreateDirectory(path); Here's the error I'm getting: Access to the path '\fileserver\images\NewDirectory' is denied. I'm pretty stuck on this. Any ideas?

• PHPUnit - multiple stubs of same class

  I'm building unit tests for class Foo, and I'm fairly new to unit testing. A key component of my class is an instance of BarCollection which contains a number of Bar objects. One method in Foo iterates through the collection and calls a couple methods on each Bar object in the collection. I want to use stub objects to generate a series of responses for my test class. How do I make the Bar stub class return different values as I iterate? I'm trying to do something along these lines: $stubs = array(); foreach ($array as $value) { $barStub->expects($this->any()) ->method('GetValue')) ->will($this->returnValue($value)); $stubs[] = $barStub; } // populate stubs into `Foo` // assert results from `Foo->someMethod()` So Foo->someMethod() will produce data based on the results it receives from the Bar objects. But this gives me the following error whenever the array is longer than one: There was 1 failure: 1) testMyTest(FooTest) with data set #2 (array(0.5, 0.5)) Expectation failed for method name is equal to <string:GetValue> when invoked zero or more times. Mocked method does not exist. /usr/share/php/PHPUnit/Framework/MockObject/Mock.php(193) : eval()'d code:25 One thought I had was to use ->will($this->returnCallback()) to invoke a callback method, but I don't know how to indicate to the callback which Bar object is making the call (and consequently what response to give). Another idea is to use the onConsecutiveCalls() method, or something like it, to tell my stub to return 1 the first time, 2 the second time, etc, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I'm also concerned that if my class ever does anything other than ordered iteration on the collection, I won't have a way to test it.

  I'm trying to read the response stream from an HttpWebResponse object. I know the length of the stream (_response.ContentLength) however I keep getting the following exception: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: size While debugging, I noticed that at the time of the error, the values were as such: length = 15032 //the length of the stream as defined by _response.ContentLength bytesToRead = 7680 //the number of bytes in the stream that still need to be read bytesRead = 7680 //the number of bytes that have been read (offset) body.length = 15032 //the size of the byte[] the stream is being copied to The peculiar thing is that the bytesToRead and bytesRead variables are ALWAYS 7680, regardless of the size of the stream (contained in the length variable). • Servlet requests are executed sequentially for no apparent reason in Glassfish v3

  Hi, I'm using Glassfish 3 Web profile and can't get http workers to execute concurrently requests on a servlet. This is how i observed the problem. I've made a very simple servlet, that writes the current thread name to the standard output and sleep for 10 seconds : protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName()); try { Thread.sleep(10000); // 10 sec } catch (InterruptedException ex) {} } } And when i'm running several simultaneous requests, I clearly see in the logs that the requests are sequentially executed (one trace every 10 seconds). INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(1) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) etc. All my GF settings are untouched - it's the out-of-the-box config (the default thread pool is 2 threads min, 5 max if I recall properly). ...I really don't understand why the sleep() block all the others worker threads. • Can I compare a template variable to an integer in App Engine templates?

  Using Django templates in Google App Engine (on Python), is it possible to compare a template variable to an integer in an {% if %} block? views.py: class MyHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): foo_list = db.GqlQuery(...) ... template_values['foos'] = foo_list template_values['foo_count'] = len(foo_list) handler.response.out.write(template.render(...)) My template: {% if foo_count == 1 %} There is one foo. {% endif %} This blows up with 'if' statement improperly formatted. What I was attempting to do in my template was build a simple if/elif/else tree to be grammatically correct to be able to state #foo_count == 0: There are no foos. #foo_count == 1: There is one foo. #else: There are {{ foos|length }} foos. Browsing the Django template documents (this link provided in the GAE documentation appears to be for versions of Django far newer than what is supported on GAE), it appears as if I can only actually use boolean operators (if in fact boolean operators are supported in this older version of Django) with strings or other template variables. Is it not possible to compare variables to integers or non-strings with Django templates? I'm sure there is an easy way to workaround this - built up the message string on the Python side rather than within the template - but this seems like such a simple operation you ought to be able to handle in a template. It sounds like I should be switching to a more advanced templating engine, but as I am new to Django (templates or any part of it), I'd just like some confirmation first.

• silverlight security with WCF service, Forms Authentication and Custom Form Ticket

  I have a silverlight application with login on the silverlight page. It uses Forms Authentication with WCF authentication service and customer Membership Provider. Something like : http://blogs.msdn.com/phaniraj/archive/2009/09/10/using-the-ado-net-data-services-silverlight-client-library-in-x-domain-and-out-of-browser-scenarios-ii-forms-authentication.aspx So, SL page login page calls the WCF service authentication service, it validates using DB - brings back username and password. Now, in each subsequent calls (in Global.asax in Authenticate_Request, I get HttpContext.User.IsAuthenticated and HttpContext.User.UserName). I have all this working properly. But, I just don't want the username, but more information surrounding the user, like UserId, UserAddress, UserAssociateCustomer etc. I tried couple of different approaches. 1) Use HttpContext.Cache as a dictionary to save the item and get it off based on httpcontext.user.name, problem is cache can be erased if there memory is being used heavily. 2) Tried CustomFormsAuth Ticket, when forms authentication writes a ticket, I intercept CreatingCookie method and write additional info in formauthentication ticket, so that I can read it in subsequent requests, I am having problems with this approach, I don't find the ticket in subsequent requests. I read about how we should use REsponse.Redirect, but where do I redirect user from WCF call. How do you guys implement the above scenario? Any best practices.? Any issues you see with going on HTTPS? All examples (or most of them) just explains simple forms authentication with "I am logged in message".. Any suggestions ?

  I'm trying to do something like this post but with Excel VBA. I would like to submit a response on a google docs form each time a button is pressed on an Excel add-in. The addin will be an XLA file and written in VBA. I want to be able to collect what features the users are using. • calll html button onclick event from asp server side login authenticate event

  Need to programmatically click an html button from a login event (code behind? the html button sends variables to Flash using method: no response - with no postback and uses ExternalInterface API via javascript. Going from SWF ASPX is great, but need to send User.Identity to SWF from ASPX via javascript after authenticate with login event which am having impossible time getting to work... (calling HTML event from Login button) tried scripting in javascript to login event with no luck, possibly because postback clears SWF variables - so perhaps keeping separate (login then html send) would work...   I am building a web service that serves geographic boundary data in JSON format. The geographic data is stored in an SQL Server 2008 R2 database using the geography type in a table. I use [ColumnName].ToString() method to return the polygon data as text. Example output: POLYGON ((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666)) MULTIPOLYGON (((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627 0 0, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666 0 0))) Geographic definitions can take the form of either an array of lat/long pairs defining a polygon or in the case of multiple definitions, an array or polygons (multipolygon). I have the following regex that converts the output to JSON objects contained in multi-dimensional arrays depending on the output. However I am no regex master and the calls to String.Replace() also seem inefficient to me. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments about performance of this?

• HTTP 500 a problem on CAS Server while setting SSLVerifyClent as "required"

  I have 3 server, a Apache Server, a JBOSS Server and a CAS Server for SSO. The Apache Server resolve all request with a domain such as www.request.com, and the path of CAS Server is www.request.com/cas, and JBOSS Server is www.request.com/jboss (This app got a CAS client). My problem is if I set SSLVerifyClient require for the NameVirtualHost of www.request.com in my Apache Server, I got a HTTP 500 error during the redirecting to the JBOSS Server(http://www.request.com/jboss), after logined in the CAS login page successfully. • jquery .submit live click runs more than once

  I use the following code to run my form ajax requests but when i use the live selector on a button i can see the ajax response fire 1 time, then if i re-try it 2 times, 3 times, 4 times and so on... I use .live because i also have a feature to add a post and that appears instantly so the user can remove it without refreshing the page...
