  Hi, I have a Microsoft Notepad flate file with data and Vertical Bar as column delimiter. I get following message: cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types It seems it is my nvarchar(max) that creates my problem. I changed to varchar(max); but still the same problem. And in the SQL Server 2005 import and export wizard the flate file source advanced tab the OutputColumnWith is 50. Will that say my flate file column is max 50? I hope not because my column is more then 50... Thank you, Rune

• How can I stop SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 going to sleep?

  I have SSRS 2008 set-up on a server. All works fine except that if left inactive for a length of time the next time a request is made to the server it takes a long time for it to service it. I think this is to do with the worker process being shutdown after being idle for a certain length of time. However, as SSRS 2008 isn't managed through IIS I can't find any settings that I can adjust to stop this from happening. In IIS I'd go to the Performance tab of the Application Pool Properties and choose not to shutdown the worker process. How can I do this for SSRS 2008?

• Why does my .NET Windows service not start automatically sometimes?

  Hi all, I have modified a working Windows service that had always been starting beforehand. After adding the System.Management reference it now sometimes will not start automatically. I get the following error: Service cannot be started. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010002): Call was canceled by the message filter. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010002 (RPC_E_CALL_CANCELED)) I found another post here on SO with someone having the same issue. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/998883/why-wont-my-net-windows-service-start-automatically-after-a-reboot However, the proposed solution was to have the service start after the services it depends on have started. However, when I go to the Dependencies tab for my service, I see: Should I just use the workaround method of putting the thread to sleep, or is there a more proper way of getting this service to start correctly? Is this happening because .NET has not started before my service starts? Thanks, Tomek

  I have a hybrid ASP.NET WebForms/MVC project. In my Master Page, I have a "menu" User Control and a "footer" User Control. Anyways. I need to pass some data (2 strings) to my "menu" User Control on my Master Page (to select the current tab in my menu navigation, etc.) My views are strongly-typed to my data model. How can I push data from my controller to my menu or at least allow my master page to access some data pre-defined in my controller? Note: I understand this violates pure ASP.NET MVC, but like I said, it is a hybrid project. The main purpose of my introduction to ASP.NET MVC into my project was to have more control over my UI for certain situations only.

  Does anyone have any experience with the RadWindow wpf control from Telerik? My problem is that when I open a RadWindow and minimize my application then when I maximize the application the RadWindow is not visible. I can use alt+tab to get the RadWindow in front again, but I would really like to avoid having to do this. I'm doing the following to display the RadWindow: this.theWindow.ShowDialog(); Where theWindow is an instance of a class that inherits from RadWindow. Any ideas?

• CFBundleDocumentTypes and iPad camera connection kit (SD reader)

  I am trying to register a custom document type in an iPad app, with the hopes that I can be prompted to work with files on an SD card attached to the iPad through the camera connection kit. Does anyone know if this is currently possible (or even for sure if it's not possible)? I was hoping that the Camera tab in Photos would use a document interaction controller for types it did not understand, but it seems like Photos does not check for alternate handlers at all - I tried also registering support for the jpg type but was not prompted when using photos and loading in JPG images from an SD card. There is an SD reader app called Zoomit that appears to read many different types from an SD card: http://currentphotographer.com/zoomit-application-enabled-sd-card-reader-for-the-iphone/ But it seems that involves custom hardware, that differs from the standard SD reader.

• Cocoa Application with Menubar but no Dock Icon / switch menu

  Hi, This is yet one more of those "how to switch from running with a dock icon to running without one" questions with a twist.. I don't want the dock icon but I do want a menu bar when the application is at the front. Is that possible? Running an application with LSUIElement set to 1 in the plist will launch the application without a dock icon, not showing up in the command-tab switch list and without a menu. You can switch from that mode to the "normal" mode with all three switched on via SetSystemModeUI from 10.2 onwards and via NSApplication setApplicationActivationPolicy since 10.6, but crucially there is no way back to the previous mode (go figure). So one way around this would be to launch with LSUIElement = 1 and then activate the menu bar when the application gets the focus and deactivate it on the application losing the focus.. alas I can't find a way of doing that.   hi, I am in the conversion process of facebook app from fbml to iframe. Now i am testing using few iframe pages. $user = $facebook->require_login(); It gives the current user logged in. Once it get the variable from the facebook.com it saves in cookie by the PHP API provided by facebook). I logged out using another tab of facebook and i tryed using my app without refreshing the whole site (by just using the links inside my app). It still gives the $user variable. It indicates that user has logged in instead of user logged out. Please help me out. I want my app secured. It looks my iframe app accessible when we select "open this frame in new window". I need a solution for this too. Thanks in advance.

• Ruby Irb reacts strangely to control keys

  Hi. I'm (extremely) new to Ruby, having started today. I just moved from my system's Ruby 1.8 installation to Ruby 1.9, compiled from source. In doing so, irb has taken a turn for the worse. It reacts in a most unfriendly way to the non-alphanumeric control keys: UP key prints: ^[[A DOWN key prints: ^[[B DELETE key prints: ^[[3~ ...and so on. The main result of this for me is that I have no access to previously issued commands. Nor does tab-completion work; though none of this seems to be an issue with Wirble - the same happens when I remove my ~/.irbrc. I'm using: Ubuntu 9.10 GNOME Terminal 2.28.1 ruby 1.9.1p376 (2009-12-07 revision 26041) [i686-linux] Irb version 0.9.5 (05/04/13) Any ideas? :(

• Setting background views depending on user settings

  I've got an app where the background needs to be set depending on user preference. The user can change this at any time via settings tab. I've got it working by checking NSUserDefaults in viewWillAppear and setting self.view.backgroundColor. This is really clunky. The right approach (I thought) is to set the background in the root view and for every views that gets on the stack inherit the background. So in viewDidLoad, I've got self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; I would have thought this should work. But all I get is a clear background. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

• TTPhotoViewController: Images not loading until swipe

  Hi, I am trying to implement TTPhotoViewController in a sample iPad application. I have implemented properly TTPhotoSource and TTPhoto protocols. The TTPhotoViewController does show image, but not until swiped. The right and left button in the tab bar below doesnt seem to work at all, they never change the image displayed. The UIActivityIndicatorView is never put up, nor the right and left buttons are validated when last or first images are reached. I am initializing the subclass of TTPhotoViewController as a rootViewController of a UINavigationController object which I am adding it onto a view. • Transpose a file in bash

  Hi all, I have a huge tab-separated file formatted like this X column1 column2 column3 row1 0 1 2 row2 3 4 5 row3 6 7 8 row4 9 10 11 I would like to transpose it in an efficient way using only using commands (I could write a ten or so lines Perl script to do that, but it should be slower to execute than the native bash functions). So the output should look like X row1 row2 row3 row4 column1 0 3 6 9 column2 1 4 7 10 column3 2 5 8 11 I thought of a solution like this cols=`head -n 1 input | wc -w` for (( i=1; i <= $cols; i++)) do cut -f $i input | tr $'\n' $'\t' | sed -e "s/\t$/\n/g" >> output done But it's slow and doesn't seem the most efficient solution. I've seen a solution for vi in this post, but it's still over-slow. Any thoughts/suggestions/brilliant ideas? :-)

• PowerPoint record slide show function accessible through Interop with C#

  I am currently trying to write an addin for PowerPoint that whenever any PowerPoint document is opened and then run in show mode that the feature to record narration audio and slide timings is automatically activated. However I cannot seem to find that option in the PowerPoint interop object The manual in application way to use this feature in Powerpoint 2007 is under the "Slide Show" tab of the ribbon called "Record Narration". I have found under that I can set under Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.SlideShowSettings.AdvancedSettings to RehearseNewTimings but this does not record narration audio. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Or if I am completely on the wrong track here. Thanks in advance for any repsonse

• Windows gadget in WPF - show while "Show desktop" is activated

  Hi I'm trying to create a "gadget" like application using WPF. The goal is to get the same behavior as a normal Windows 7 gadget: No task-bar entry Doesn't show up when you alt+tab windows NOT always on top, applications can be on top Visible while performing 'Aero Peek' Visible while using 'Show desktop' / Windows+D I've been able to accomplish the first four goals, but have been unable to find a solution to the fifth problem. The closest I've come is by using the utility class from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/75785/how-do-you-do-appbar-docking-to-screen-edge-like-winamp-in-wpf, but this turns the app into a "toolbar", thereby banishing applications from the part of the screen where my gadget GUI is placed. I can see that similar questions has been asked previously on Stackoverflow, but those have died out before a solution was found. Posting anyway in the hope that there is now someone out there with the knowledge to solve this =)
