  How does OfType() Work? I read this link about what's going on but how exactly does the LINQ provider know how to get all objects matching the specified type. I know the IQueryable<T> "chains" up requests and then evaluates when GetEnumerator() is called (right?). Specifically I want to know how does the framework quickly do type comparison? I wrote a method in a .NET 2.0 project that went like this (since 2.0 doesn't support these kind of features): public IEnumerable<TResult> OfType<TResult>() where TResult : class { foreach (TItem item in this.InnerList) { TResult matchItem = item as TResult; if (matchItem != null) { yield return matchItem; } } } Is this the best implementation?

• Reading http file on url

  I am trying to read an xml file on an http url. "Unexpected end of file from server" keeps on coming . the page is password protected, I would like to know if I am properly giving in my url authentication details. I tried with non protected pages and I can read them properly.   My web service was created some time back using IBM JAX-RPC. As a part of enhancement, I need to provide some security to the existing service. One way is to provide a handler, all the request and response will pass through that handler only. In the request I can implement some authentication rules for each and every application/user accessing it. Other than this, What are the possible ways for securing it? I have heard someting called wsse security for web service. Is it possible to implement it for the JAX-RPC? Or it can be implemented only for JAX-WS? Need some helpful inputs on the wsse security so that i can jump learning it. Other than handler and wsse security, any other possible way to make a service secure? Please help.

  I am considering doing a project which would provide unified API and tools (import/export, etc.) for object databases (e.g. Caché, Objectivity) for .NET. It would provide: schema generation from CLR classes, generation of C# classes from given OODBMs schema, API for deleting, creating and updating objects, Linq provider, API for calling object's methods on DB server, some of OODBMs provide some kind of SQL support, so API for this, providers for Caché and Objectivity in first phase. Does any project which implements any of above exist? Can this be achieved with NHibernate dialects? or are OODBMs so different than RDBMs that it worth doing separate framework for them?

I know how to connect to access and create the connection there, but actually manipulating the table I am lost. I can use this to connect to access, but how would I access the table and find the field I am looking for? • Ways to Unit Test Oauth for different services in ruby?

  Are there any best practices in writing unit tests when 90% of the time I'm building the Oauth connecting class, I need to actually be logging into the remote service? I am building a rubygem that logs in to Twitter/Google/MySpace, etc., and the hardest part is making sure I have the settings right for that particular provider, and I would like to write tests for that. Is there a recommended way to do that? If I did mocks or stubs, I'd still have to spend that 90% of the time figuring out how to use the service, and would end up writing tests after the fact instead of before...

• PHP / XHTML. Should I place everything in echo tags?

  A quick question involving PHP development, I seem to be wondering about this more and more as I develop more complex sites. Basically say we have a basic PHP / XHTML inbox (messaging system). I perform checks at the top (check if user is logged in, check if user has correct permissions etc). Then use the 'header('location:www.abc.com)' function if the authentication fails. The question is do I write the rest of the inbox code in a huge 'else' block or just use standard html. I read somewhere about about it being bad to put any code after using the 'header' function.

• Extending folder (LiveFolder?) class

  So, I noticed that I can organize apps into folders (HTC Incredible). However these folders are fairly limited in their capabilities. I want to implement an activity that extends the "base" folder activity (at the very least I want to add the ability to rearrange items in folders), but I can't figure out the class name... So, what's the name of the class that is used when adding a "New Folder" to the Home screen? PS I did take a look at the Android developer website. But the discussion there revolves mostly around content providers. I assume that's not quite what I need since I'd have to create a separate content provider for each new folder, or am I misunderstanding something?

• Help in restructuring a project

  I have a commerce application, asp.net mvc. I want it to be extensible in the sense others can create other payment providers, as long as they adhere to the interfaces. /blah.core /blah.web /blah.Authorize.net (Implementation of a payment provider using interfaces Ipaymentconfig and paymentdata class) Now the problem is this: /blah.core - PaymentData /blah.core.interfaces - IPaymentConfig where Payment Data looks like: using blah.core; public class PaymentData { public Order Order {get;set;} } IPayment data contains classes from blah.core like the Order class. Now I want to use the actual Authorize.net implementation, so when I tried to reference it in the blah.core project I got a circular dependency error. How could I solve this problem? Many have said to break out the interfaces into their own project, but the problem is PaymentData references entities that are found in blah.core also, so there doesn't seem to be a way around this (in my head anyhow). How can I redesign this?

• .NET DB Query Without Allocations?

  I have been given the task of re-writing some libraries written in C# so that there are no allocations once startup is completed. I just got to one project that does some DB queries over an OdbcConnection every 30 seconds. I've always just used .ExecuteReader() which creates an OdbcDataReader. Is there any pattern (like the SocketAsyncEventArgs socket pattern) that lets you re-use your own OdbcDataReader? Or some other clever way to avoid allocations? I haven't bothered to learn LINQ since all the dbs at work are Oracle based and the last I checked, there was no official Linq To Oracle provider. But if there's a way to do this in Linq, I could use one of the third-party ones.

• SQL Server 2008. Allow Remote Connections?

  I have SQL Server 2000 and 2008 installed on a Windows XP Pro box. I can connect to both db instances locally. From another box, a Windows 7 box, I can connect to the SQL 2000 instance on the first box but I cannot connect to the 2008 instance using the same SQL Server authentication credentials that worked locally. Allow Remote Connections is set to TRUE for both the 2000 and 2008 database instances. What else can I look for to be able to connect to the remote 2008 instance from the Windows 7 box? I am trying to connect using Mgt Studio 2008.

• Restful client on Codeigniter issue

  This is weird. I don't know what is problem on my website. My website works on local server but not on live server. Login page works on first signin but after logout then re-login again message says: "invalid username and password" since it works on first attempt. I found out when I debugging that http://xxxxx.com/api/authentication/sign not found. It display 404 page not found. Sometimes you can login and sometimes not. In my local it works. I contact the web server admin and I ask what is the status of the session on the server and How does it execute it's web requests? (Sockets, file_get_contents, curl?). They said that No problems reproduced with Server Sessions and PHP Curl works fine. I know it's weird but can somebody here can figure it out what is the problem behind of it.

  I'm trying to use linux elinks text browser to go to a website. This site requires http authentication. If I press escape it and hide the login prompt once and then If I try to go the particular website again it doesn't show the login prompt again. I try "flush all caches" But it doesn't work until I close my terminal and get a new one. Is there any other way to get over with this? This should be a simple question. But I googled and couldn't find a answer.

• Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

  My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. I've submitted a bug report to Apple (radar://7408619).   Hello, my name is Abdulla and I'm from Kuwait. Sorry for my question as I know its not technically challenging. I'm facing some problems with my internet connection. My company has a DSL 2mb connection. My main problem is latency, in the morning its good but after that its gets really bad. My Internet provider says there's nothing wrong and that everything is working perfectly. I tried to explain to them the latency issue but they say that as long as I'm getting the download speed there isn't anything I can do about it. • Creating static NAT blocks outbound traffic Cisco ASA

  Hi Everyone, I have two web servers sitting behind a Cisco ASA 5505, which I don't have much experience with. I'm trying to create two static NATs. One static NAT that goes to xx.xx.xx.150 and another that goes to xx.xx.xx.151. I've created the static NAT for the .150 web server and it works FINE. Incoming and outgoing traffic work great. This is the staging web server. I now need to duplicate the setup for the production web server. So, I connect the webserver to the firewall, change the public IP address on one of the NICs reboot the server and I have outbound internet access. Then I run the command: static (inside,outside) xx.xx.xx.150 192.168.1.x which is successful. I then run the command: access-list acl-outside permit tcp any host xx.xx.xx.150 eq 80 Which is successful. I then try to browse the internet and I get nothing. I try to telnet in through port 80 and I get nothing (though I'm guessing because the response to the telnet request is being blocked). I've tried this with the production web server and then I tried it with another web server that is for internal testing and have the exact same problem. Both work fine until I run the static NAT rule and then no outbound internet access. I have a feeling that it's something simple that I'm missing, but my limited experience with this device is killing me. Below I've pasted the current configuration.   Hello, my name is Abdulla and I'm from Kuwait. Sorry for my question as I know its not technically challenging. I'm facing some problems with my internet connection while gaming, I have DSL 2mb connection. My main problem is latency, in the morning its good but after that its gets really bad. My internet provider says there's nothing wrong and that everything is working perfectly. I tried to explain to them the latency issue but they say that as long as I'm getting the download speed there isn't anything I can do about it. • OpenSwan IPsec connection drops after 30 seconds

  I'm trying to connection from my Linux Mint 16 box to a CloudStack server. Building up the connection works (pings work across the tunnel). However 30 seconds later the IPsec tunnel gets terminated out of the blue. What could cause this consistent behaviour and how to fix it? The tunnel is setup using OpenSwan (U2.6.38/K(no kernel code presently loaded)) with the L2TP IPsec VPN manager from Werner Jaeger 1.0.9. The client is behind a NAT'ed router and the server is on public IP (CloudStack 4.2) Running ipsec verify complains about IPsec support in kernel. • Why my VPN doesn't work anymore?

  I have openvpn server running on debian lenny. There is only one client - and it is running Windows 7 64-bit. This has worked for few months without any problems. And now, let's say for the last 7 days, it doesn't work at all. I connect successfully from client to the server, but I can't access anything through VPN. I have set it up so that all internet traffic is routed through VPN, and now when I connect with the client, the client can't do anything on the net (open any webpage, ping google, anything ...). Can you help me to figure out what's wrong ? I don't know where to start. I've also tried to connect to another openvpn server (I've installed and configured openvpn on another server, and when I try to connect to it result is the same). • Can't install any drivers at all on Windows 8. Error 0x000003F9

  I suddenly can't install any drivers at all on my Windows 8 Pro x64 install. It doesn't matter what kind of driver it is, nothing will install. Everything ends with error 0x000003F9: The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format. When Windows Update tries to install a driver, it just gives error code 800703F9 and says that "Windows Update ran into a problem." I've already done a scan of system files with sfc, tried another user account, done a chkdsk, and a few more things, but nothing works. The problem started when I tried to install drivers for my printer earlier today and suddenly started getting messages saying that "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working." I decided to restart and was being greeted with the recovery boot options. I shut the computer down, but when I booted it back up the same thing happened, so I did a repair your pc, and was able to boot into the OS properly. Then I rebooted into my external drive and did a chkdsk on the Windows 8 install that started acting funny. When I booted back into Windows 8, I wasn't able to install any drivers. They all keep coming up with the same error. And I can't seem to find anything at all on this issue. Any help would be much appreciated.   I have a Ubuntu box with a ProFTPD 1.3.4a Server, when I try to log in via my FTP Client I cannot do anything as it does not allow me to list directories; I have tried logging in as root and as a regular user and tried accessing different paths within the FTP Server.
