Hi,
I am currently setting up a file server with win2k8 server r2 (storage server)
I was wondering is there something I can use to audit/log what happens?
For example
JSmith moved Folder1 to Root.
JSmith created XYZ folder.
etc.
Directory Monitor doesn't show users (which is important)

Obviously something with low overhead would be awesome too.
Thanks in advance
Is there to manipulate icons on an OS X file from either Automator or the terminal?
In my case, I want to remove custom icons (ie the same as doing 'Get Info' and Edit-Cut on the icon) from a large number of files.
The error when trying to open MS Office is that there is no file association & another error when trying to open individual progs is - side bt side configuration is incorrect.
The suite has been working perfectly until last week ( no significant changes to system )
I have tried downloading the VC++ & uninstalled & reinstalled twice, even deleted the registry entry for office 2010 before reinstall but have had no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
In my Mac OS X 10.5, it has set all my *.patch files to open with 'Notepad in Windows via Parallel'.
I have tried to change it by
click 'Open With..'
select 'TextEdit'
check the 'Always Open With' box
But still when I get new *.patch file, it will set to open 'Nodepad in Windows' by default.
Can you please tell me how can I change that for good?
I am interested in a utility or process for monitoring disk IO per file on CentOS.
On Win2008, the resmon utility allows this type of drilldown, but none of the Linux utilities I have found do this (iostat, iotop, dstat, nmon).
My interest in monitoring IO bottlenecks on database servers. With MSSQL, I have found it an informative diagnostic to know which files / filespaces are getting hit the hardest.
My iTunes likes to periodically delete all my applications. I caught it 'syncing' my apps again today. Only a few apps were deleted, but I'd like to know which ones. Does iTunes store sync changes in a log file?
In many Windows programs when I open a file, the GUI dialogue that starts with "Look in:" and provides a list of directories and files to open has a thin panel on the left-hand side with the following 5 icons:
Recent Places
Desktop
Libraries
Computer
Network
Is there a Registry Hack available for adding my own icons to this? I wish to add three for various folders related to the work that I do, and I haven't been able to find a way to customize this.
Thanks in advance.
I'm compiling a program on my 64bit machine, but I'm not sure if it produces 32-bit or 64-bit output.. How can I check if a file is 32bit or 64bit on Windows?
I found HFSExplorer, which can handle encrypted DMG files, but it only supports HFS, and the DMG I want to open is NTFS. I can't just use any image mounter since the DMG file is encrypted, and I don't want to need to copy it over to my main hard drive first. (The DMG is on an external hard drive.) If copying it is the only way, however, I'd be willing to settle for that, but I'd rather just leave it on the external hard drive in an encrypted form.
I place the following into an admin file called noask
mail=
instance=overwrite
partial=nocheck
runlevel=nocheck
idepend=nocheck
rdepend=nocheck
space=nocheck
setuid=nocheck
conflict=nocheck
action=nocheck
basedir=default
Then run pkgadd -a noask -d sed-4.1.5-sol10-x86-local - yet am still queried for:
'Select package(s) you wish to process'
Is there a way around the questioning without doing an "echo yes" at the front?
Thank you
I've got a word document I'm trying to save to an uneditable, unselectable PDF file. Essentially, I'd like it to look like a JPEG, but in PDF format. I'm trying to avoid "printing to tiff, THEN printing to PDF." I'd prefer to go directly from Word to PDF.
Additionally, I don't want to add a Password or anything.
Does an option exist for this? Thanks!
Hello.
I have a text file which was with nice linebreaks. By mistake my customer opened it in wordpad an saved it. All line breaks are now gone.
Is there a way to restore the line breaks again?
I have an EC2 instance that just went offline (cannot even be pinged) but is still reflected as operational. In an effort to retrieve data stored on an attached EBS, I did a forced detach of the mounted volume, launched a new instance, and tried attaching the EBS volume.
However, I keep getting an error -
mount: Stale NFS file handle
whenever I do so. Did I just lose all my files?
I just transfered my domain from a third party which hosted Horde as my mail client to Google Apps. I need to import all of my mail from the mbox files I exported from Horde into Gmail now.
I tried GML but it chokes on the mbox file saying that it is not well formatted. I have tried exporting multiple times from Horde and from multiple accounts. I get the same error on all of the mbox files.
Any ideas?
Is it possible to rename an archive in Amazon Glacier?
The documentation says:
After you upload an archive, you cannot update its content or its
description. The only way you can update the archive content or its
description is by deleting the archive and uploading another archive.
That would lead me to think that it's not possible, but I'm not sure whether the file name is considered part of the archive description.
if the svn repo is exposed through say : http://svn to the users, and there's a file called
script.sh
Is there a way one can get the latest revision number of script.sh by means of just http access?
Something along the lines of http://svn/rev?script.sh ?!
Thank you.
Greetings,
I am looking for an fast online/offline free solution to change the page order of a pdf file, such as changing the 5th page of a pdf with 3rd.

I use windows vista but this question is for other windows versions as well.
When I double click to install a reg file I get this warning:
Adding information can unintentionally
change or delete values and cause
components to stop working correctly.
If you do not trust the source of this
information in myFile.reg, do not add
it to the registry.
Is there any way to get rid of it and from the approval message after?
I'm a CS uni student in a country with limited bandwidth, and I find that I download files (particularly install files) for reuse\reinstallation\giving to my friends.. I've kept these files in different folders, and now find it extremely hard to find them, and keeping track of obselete files (the almost weekly releases of iTunes versions, or latest 7zip release or the .Net framework installers). What I would like to find is a file manager that could support tags, so instead of hierachical folders, i could find\view files according to their tags...
I'm having trouble mounting a share on my XenServer (5.6 FP1). From the command line I try:
mount.cifs //server/share /mnt/share -o credentials=credfile
The contents of credfile is:
username=Administrator
password=What@zR\!p3s
When I run the above mount command I get "Access Denied". However if I run the following command it works:
mount.cifs //server/share /mnt/share -o username=Administrator,password=What@zR\!p3s
Please note the "\" is to escape the bang and I've tried this with and without it in the credentials file. Any suggestions?
I currently use Foxit's PDF reader, and I recently downloaded an image from the Internet, but it is inside a PDF file. How do I extract this image, in a high-quality, jpeg format? Operating system is Windows 7. Thanks!
Our analytics software monitors the HTML pages that we're serving quite nicely (through embedded javascript) but we have a few image files that are not included in these reports as they're not attached to any HTML. Knowing the file's name/path, I'm looking for quick (and dirty if necessary) way to identify how many times a given image was served by Apache on each Day (or hour?).
