  • Continuous Retraining Tutorials

    - by foampile
I am looking for an online resource in which you can sortof design your future professional profile and it would provide you a set of tutorials that you would complete to get a basic level of familiarity with related technologies. One of my professional problems is my learning style: I can learn either by direct hands-on experience OR by following a rigid training program that goes in a linear progression. I have a hard time learning things in a multidimensional environment where the biggest challenge is to determine what needs to be learned and how to pick from a ton of books and the least problem is to go through the actual material. So I am looking for a reputable source that will knock those two confusing questions out for me so I can kick back and continuously be upgrading my skills without having to worry about what and how myself. I have found some decent online tutorials for various technologies but never found a single place that has all or most developer education tutorials that all follow the same or similar interface. I am kindof a lazy learner and would rather follow confirmed learning steps than be figuring my own education path just to realize I did it all wrong down the road. Is there a tutorial mega-boutique like that online?

  • JavaOne 2012 in Review

    - by Janice J. Heiss
Noted freelance writer Steve Meloan has a new article up on otn/java, titled, “JavaOne 2012 Review: Make the Future Java” in which he summarizes the happenings at JavaOne 2012. Along the way, he reminds us that if the future turns out to be anything like the past, Java will do fine: The repeated theme for this year's conference was ‘Make the Future Java,’ and according to recent stats, the groundwork is already firmly in place:    There are 9 million Java developers worldwide.    Three billion devices run Java.    Five billion Java Cards are in use.    One hundred percent of Blu-ray Disc players ship with Java.    Ninety-seven percent of enterprise desktops run Java.    Eighty-nine percent of PC desktops run Java. This year's content curriculum program was organized under seven technical tracks:    Core Java Platform    Development Tools and Techniques    Emerging Languages on the JVM    Enterprise Service Architectures and the Cloud    Java EE Web Profile and Platform Technologies    Java ME, Java Card, Embedded, and Devices    JavaFX and Rich User Experiences”Meloan artfully reminds us of how JavaOne makes learning fun. • Run script at user login as root, with a catch

    - by tubaguy50035
I'm trying to run a PHP script as root on user login. The PHP script adds a Samba share to the Samba config, thus the need for root privileges. The only issue here, is that the user doesn't exist yet. This system is integrated with active directory. So when a user logs in for the first time, a home directory for them is created under /home/DOMAIN/username. I've found this question and that seems like the correct way to get what I want, but I'm having trouble with the syntax since I don't know the user's name. Would it be something like: ALL ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /home/DOMAIN/*/createSambaShare.php This doesn't seem to work as it is currently. Anyone have any ideas or a "scripted" way to add a Samba share on user login? Since I've made other changes to /etc/skel, I just added the bash necessary to run the PHP script in .profile in there. This then gets copied to the "new" user's home and it tries to run the PHP script. But it fails, because these are not privileged users. Changing permissions on the PHP script will not help. It needs to be run as sudo because it opens the Samba config file for writing. Letting any user run the PHP script would result in a PHP error. The homes Samba directive doesn't work for my use case. I need the Samba share to exist once they exist on the server, even when they're not logged in.

  • Is "send us a page with code" a typical interview requirement?

    - by acm
Recently I was asked to show "a page with code" for a job interview. Being mainly a back-end programmer, and that's the position I applied for, I first said to the person I was talking to exactly that: PHP is executed at the server and therefore not visible by just giving a "page". However, following their desire, I sent links to the pages I've worked on before. Obviously they couldn't see anything except for the HTML, CSS, JS... They said it was not enough, they could not see the PHP. Understanding that they probably just wanted to know my skills and/or interest I sent them my Stack Overflow profile. Among all my questions and answers, most of them with code, certainly the PHP is there. But it seems this is not what they wanted. Well, I don't have any code put together that I can simply publish for someone to see. And I would never do it for the code I have deployed, obviously. So my question is/are: What does "send us a page with code" mean? What should I send? Is this a typical interview requirement?

  • Ubuntu Software Centre is gone! How can I get it back?

    - by Mochan
Right. I am having MAJOR issues. (It would be much appreciated if you would solve them for me! Check my profile for open questions...) Following an answerer... who sorry to say... didn't give a great answer because it was just a graphical way of doing what I had already done - suggested I purge a library. Turns out that library controlled the Advanced Packaging Tool (apt), Ubuntu Software Centre and the repositories. Not a great tool to mess with. While trying to purge the library, it came up with 'Removing MyUnity.. Removing x... Removing x... Removing Ubuntu Software Centre... Removing X... Removing apt..." I quickly recognized and force shut-down my system. But I guess it was too late. So... well, plainly put - how do I get it back?!

  • No sound Ubuntu 12.04 through HDMI

    - by MikeMan
Specs: Asus G73JH i7/720; ATI Mobility 5870 I have read through a lot of threads on getting HDMI sound to work and non of them have fixed my issue. Granted I am very new to Linux and know only the GUI aspect of what it does from finding similarities that Windows 7 has. I would like to become a Linux Power User and I figured this would be a good step to get started. I was able to successfully install my graphics driver and it shows in use. I connect the HDMI to my HD TV and I get no sound. I don't care about auto switch for sound, that would be great but not necessary. I just want my sound to work through the HDMI. What I have tried: Changed GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.audio=1" pact set-card-profile 0 output:hdmi-surround Failure: no such entity Sound Settings: Right-click Sound indicator ? Sound Settings ? Output Tab, and set Digital Output (S/PDIF) Built in Audio Speakers Built in Audio I only get 2 settings. If I right-click the area below those 2 in the "play sound through" box, I get no "show hidden devices". I am also doing all this with the HDMI connected to eliminate any possibility for error.

  • X crashes and GNOME loses all its configuration

    - by Oli
About every 3 days on my desktop (always on), X crashes, gdm restarts and it dumps me at a login screen. When I log in Gnome appears to have lost a lot of its settings: it plays sounds in weird places, UI elements look like they're from the 90s (GTK+ defaults) and it's generally pretty hideous. Note everything works fine. It's not like my profile doesn't exist because I can browse the internet fine (Firefox knows my bookmarks, history, passwords, etc) and my desktop is unscathed (apart from the icon theme). Manually restarting gdm doesn't fix this. I have to do a full reboot. Now I'm almost certain that this is a nvidia issue causing X to baulk (I've seen similarish threads on nvnews) and I'm happy with that (my fault for running their latest drivers all the time). What I'm concerned about is why Gnome looks so fugly. Is there anything I can do to force it to reload its settings without restarting the whole computer. Restarting is an issue for me as I run several daemons that other computers on the network depend upon. This is what I mean by ugly/fugly... Look at that scroll bar!

  • Dark NetBeans

    - by Geertjan
Let's make NetBeans IDE look like this. Not saying it's a nice color or anything, just that it's possible to do so: I changed the coloring in the Java editor by going to Tools | Options, then chose "Fonts & Colors", then selected the "Norway Today" profile and changed the background setting to Dark Gray. Next, I put this themes.xml file into the "config" folder of the NetBeans IDE user directory, which you can identify as such by going to Help | About in the IDE. Go to the exact location defined by "User directory" in Help | About, and then go to the "config" folder within that folder: The "config" folder of the user directory is the readable/writable root of the NetBeans IDE virtual filesystem. If a themes.xml file is found there, it is used, as described here. Then, in netbeans.conf file, which is not in the NetBeans user directory but in the NetBeans installation directory, within its "etc" folder, I added the following to "netbeans_default_options": -J-Dnetbeans.useTheme=true --laf Metal The first of these enables usage of the themes.xml file, i.e., it notifies NetBeans IDE at startup to load the themes.xml file and to apply the content to the relevant UI components, while the second is needed because most/all of the themes only work if you're using the Metal Look and Feel. Note: I must add that in most cases, whatever it is you're trying to achieve via a themes.xml file can probably be achieved in a different, and better, way. The themes.xml mechanism has been there forever, but is not actively supported or tested, though it may work for the specific thing you're trying to do anyway. For example, if you're trying to change the background color of a TopComponent, use the paintComponent method of the TopComponent instead of using a themes.xml file.

  • Marking Discussions as Answered

As a contributor to a number of projects on CodePlex I really like the fact that the discussions feature exists but also I need ways to help me sort the discussions threads so I can make sure no-one is getting forgotten about. Seems like a lot of you agreed as the feature request Provide feature to allow Coordinators to mark Discussions threads as 'Answered' is our number 2 voted feature right now with 178 votes.  Today we rolled out the first iteration of “answer” support to discussions. In this first iteration we wanted to keep it simple and lightweight. The original poster of the thread along with project owners, developers or editors can mark any post to the thread as an answer. You can have any number of answers marked in a thread and it’s very quick to mark or unmark a post as an answer.  We deliberately keep the answers in the originally posted order so that you can see them in context with the discussion thread. When viewing discussions the default view is still to see everything, but you can easily filter by “Unanswered”.  You can even save that as a bookmark so as someone interested in the project can quickly jump to the unanswered discussion threads to go help out on. As I mention, we kept this first pass of the answering feature as simple and as lightweight as possible so that we can get some feedback on it. Head on over to the issue tracking this feature if you have any thoughts once you have used it for a bit or feel free to respond in the comments. I already have a couple of things I think we want to do such as a refresh of the look and feel of discussions in general along, make it easier to navigate to posts that are marked an answered and surface posts that you do that were marked as answered in your profile page - but if you have ideas then please let us know.

  • Laptop using 14.04 won't get past login GUI

    - by Dave M G
My laptop was working perfectly yesterday, and now today I can't log in. At first, I was only getting a black screen. However, after following instructions in some questions here on AskUbuntu, I first reinstalled lightdm, and then I had to change the ownership of the file ~/.Xauthority to be my user name. Now, I get the log in GUI screen. However, once I enter my username, it flickers and then comes back to the login GUI. It does not matter if I use Gnome, Unity, or Gnome-Flashback. I don't know why lightdm needed to be reconfigured, or how ~/.Xauthority got changed, but in any case, what is still standing in my way, preventing me from logging in? Update: I have tried deleting the .Xauthority file, and the .profile files in my home directory. It has not changed anything. Logging in as guest also fails to work. The following commands did not work: mv ~/.config ~/.config.BAK mv ~/.cache ~/.cache.BAK Inside .xsession-errors in my home directory, it says: Gdk-CRITICAL: gdk_x11_display_get_xdisplay: assertion 'GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed

  • Pixel Shader Issues :

    - by Morphex
I have issues with a pixel shader, my issue is mostly that I get nothing draw on the screen. float4x4 MVP; // TODO: add effect parameters here. struct VertexShaderInput { float4 Position : POSITION; float4 normal : NORMAL; float2 TEXCOORD : TEXCOORD; }; struct VertexShaderOutput { float4 Position : POSITION; }; VertexShaderOutput VertexShaderFunction(VertexShaderInput input) { input.Position.w = 0; VertexShaderOutput output; output.Position = mul(input.Position, MVP); // TODO: add your vertex shader code here. return output; } float4 PixelShaderFunction(VertexShaderOutput input) : SV_TARGET { return float4(1, 0, 0, 1); } technique { pass { Profile = 11.0; VertexShader = VertexShaderFunction; PixelShader = PixelShaderFunction; } } My matrix is calculated like this : Matrix MVP = Matrix.Multiply(Matrix.Multiply(Matrix.Identity, Matrix.LookAtLH(new Vector3(-10, 10, -10), new Vector3(0), new Vector3(0, 1, -0))), Camera.Projection); VoxelEffect.Parameters["MVP"].SetValue(MVP); Visual Studio Graphics Debug shows me that my vertex shader is actually working, but not the PixelShader. I striped the Shader to the bare minimums so that I was sure the shader was correct. But why is my screen still black?

  • What constitutes "commercial purposes"?

    - by RoboShop
I'm looking at this license. It says that I can use it for "non-commercial purposes". What does that mean? I see in Stack Exchange, under Network Profile there is that graph that tracks your points across your Stack Exchange accounts. It uses a control called HighCharts which have a paid and Creative Commons licensed version. So would Stack Overflow constitute a commercial site? We don't pay to use this site, but obviously the site makes money from ads, etc. Then again, there's a lot of sites that have ads who won't necessarily make a profit, it may only be subsiding their costs. But even then, you could argue that even if it is only subsiding their costs, a lot of IT companies run at a loss in order to build a big enough customer base. So where is the line here? Is it any website on the internet? Is it any website that has ads? Is it any website that turns over a profit?

  • Apache SSO through Kerberos using Machine Account

    - by watkipet
I'm attempting to get Apache on Ubuntu 12.04 to authenticate users via Kerberos SSO to a Windows 2008 Active Directory server. Here are a few things that make my situation different: I don't have administrative access to the Windows Server (nor will I ever have access). I also cannot have any changes to the server made on my behalf. I've joined Ubuntu server to the Active Directory using PBIS open. Users can log into the Ubuntu server using their AD credentials. kinit also works fine for each user. Since I can't change AD (except for adding new machines and SPNs), I cannot add a service account for Apache on Ubuntu. Since I can't add I service account, I have to use the machine keytab (/etc/krb5.keytab), or at least use the machine password in another keytab. Right now I'm using the machine keytab and giving Apache readonly access (bad idea, I know). I've already added the SPN using net ads keytab add HTTP -U Since I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, the only encoding types that get added during "net ads keytab add" are arcfour-hmac, des-cbc-crc, and des-cbc-md5. PBIS adds the AES encoding types to the host and cifs principals when it joins the domain, but I have yet to get "net ads keytab add" to do this. ktpass and setspn are out of the question because of #1 above. I've configured (for Kerberos SSO) and tested both IE 8 Firefox. I'm using the following configuration in my Apache site config: <Location /secured> AuthType Kerberos AuthName "Kerberos Login" KrbMethodNegotiate On KrbMethodK5Passwd On KrbAuthRealms DOMAIN.COM Krb5KeyTab /etc/krb5.keytab KrbLocalUserMapping On require valid-user </Location> When Firefox tries to connect get the following in Apache's error.log (LogLevel debug): [Wed Oct 23 13:48:31 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1628): [client 192.168.0.2] kerb_authenticate_user entered with user (NULL) and auth_type Kerberos [Wed Oct 23 13:48:31 2013] [debug] mod_deflate.c(615): [client 192.168.0.2] Zlib: Compressed 477 to 322 : URL /secured [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1628): [client 192.168.0.2] kerb_authenticate_user entered with user (NULL) and auth_type Kerberos [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(994): [client 192.168.0.2] Using HTTP/[email protected] as server principal for password verification [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(698): [client 192.168.0.2] Trying to get TGT for user [email protected] [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(609): [client 192.168.0.2] Trying to verify authenticity of KDC using principal HTTP/[email protected] [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(652): [client 192.168.0.2] krb5_rd_req() failed when verifying KDC [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [error] [client 192.168.0.2] failed to verify krb5 credentials: Decrypt integrity check failed [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1073): [client 192.168.0.2] kerb_authenticate_user_krb5pwd ret=401 user=(NULL) authtype=(NULL) [Wed Oct 23 13:48:37 2013] [debug] mod_deflate.c(615): [client 192.168.0.2] Zlib: Compressed 477 to 322 : URL /secured When IE 8 tries to connect I get: [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1628): [client 192.168.0.2] kerb_authenticate_user entered with user (NULL) and auth_type Kerberos [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] mod_deflate.c(615): [client 192.168.0.2] Zlib: Compressed 477 to 322 : URL /secured [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1628): [client 192.168.0.2] kerb_authenticate_user entered with user (NULL) and auth_type Kerberos [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1240): [client 192.168.0.2] Acquiring creds for HTTP@apache_server [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1385): [client 192.168.0.2] Verifying client data using KRB5 GSS-API [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1401): [client 192.168.0.2] Client didn't delegate us their credential [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1420): [client 192.168.0.2] GSS-API token of length 9 bytes will be sent back [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [debug] src/mod_auth_kerb.c(1101): [client 192.168.0.2] GSS-API major_status:000d0000, minor_status:000186a5 [Wed Oct 23 14:03:30 2013] [error] [client 192.168.0.2] gss_accept_sec_context() failed: Unspecified GSS failure. • Need help merging 2 AHK scripts

    - by Mikey
i have two functioning scripts that i want to merge into a single AHK File. My problem is that when i combine both scripts, the second script doesnt function or causes an error on script 1. Either way, script 2 ist not functioning at all. Here are some facts: Script 1 = a simple menu script where i want to assign hotkeys to. Script 2 = A small launcher script from a user named Tertius in autohotkey forum. Can someone please look at both codes and help me merge this? The INI File for script 2 looks like this: Keywords.ini npff|Firefox|Firefox gm|Gmail|http://gmail.google.com ;;;;;;;;;;;; BEGIN SCRIPT 2 DetectHiddenWindows, On SetWinDelay, -1 SetKeyDelay, -1 SetBatchLines, -1 GoSub Remin SetTimer, Remin, % 1000 * 60 Loop, read, %A_ScriptDir%\keywords.ini { LineNumber = %A_Index% Loop, parse, A_LoopReadLine, | { if (A_Index == 1) abbrevs%LineNumber% := A_LoopField else if (A_Index == 2) tips%LineNumber% := A_LoopField else if (A_Index == 3) programs%LineNumber% := A_LoopField else if (A_Index == 4) params%LineNumber% := A_LoopField } tosay := abbrevs%LineNumber% } cnt = %LineNumber% Loop { Input, Key, L1 V, % "{LControl}{RControl}{LAlt}{RAlt}{LShift}{RShift}{LWin}{RWin}" . • Chrome does not re-draw properly on Windows 8

    - by Akshat Mittal
There are a lot of problems with Chrome (24.0.1312.14 beta || But all this happened before update also) on Windows 8. Problems and explanations are listed below: Google Chrome re-draw time: When I switch tabs, the window retains the content of the previous tab and displays that even if I move my mouse, if only refreshes (re-draws) when there is a change on the webpage (like on hover) or I do a select all (or scroll). One thing to note is that the hover and select happens on the real page and not the retained image-like thing of the older webpage. Chrome is slow and laggy: Websites such as Facebook and Twitter (and more) have gone extremely laggy on Chrome (Win 8). When I was using Windows 7, I never experienced a lag or something. Also when using HTML-5 Websites, the transition (the -webkit-transition in CSS) goes extremely slow at times. Plugins Crash: Plugins like Flash Player, Shockwave Player, and more that are in-built into Chrome Crashes a lot, even when doing simple tasks like playing YouTube Videos, displaying ads or something. Chrome Crashes: Chrome has crashed over 100 times in the past month. Google Chrome just crashes randomly or I don't know the reason. Random Page crashes: Chrome results chrome://crash/(Copy-Paste this in address bar) on random pages even when the page is just loaded, I understand that this can happen on heavy HTML5 or JS websites but what about HTML only websites? Computer Freeze: Chrome sometimes, randomly, freezes my computer. Freeze in the sense, none of the other apps are also working. It's like the whole system freezes, I can not even switch to other apps. I am sure that this is because of Chrome since this happens only when Chrome is active. Most of the things above happens on Super User also, Super User never had any problem when using Chrome on Windows 7. UPDATE 1: @magicandre1981 Commented for trying to disable Hardware Acceleration. I tried it, it somewhat solved the problem but din't fix it. I am still experiencing all the above issues but less frequently (maybe because Chrome Restarted Completely) UPDATE 2: @avirk asked me to try a Stable Version of Chrome and Firefox, I din't experience any lag in Firefox, a little (negligible) lag in Chrome 22 (Maybe because its a new copy of Chrome, I haven't used it much). UPDATE 3: @NothingsImpossible said that He is also experiencing the same problem on Windows Server 2008! This seams to be a major issue now. He also said that GPU load is also high at the same time! Even I saw the same thing. UPDATE 4: Recently, Chrome updated to v24 Stable (I am using stable from a long time now). I was experiencing this problem a lot less in Chrome 23, but this is back in Chrome 24. Seams like Chrome 24 is the most affected from this bug, as this same problem was high in Chrome 24 beta also. UPDATE 5: Chrome was updated to v25 Stable. This problem is 99% Gone, it is still there in 1% of the cases. One such example is when I leave chrome inactive for a while with a few tabs open, the tabs go black and no activity can get them back to active state. If I open a new tab, the new tab is OK but the others are still black, I need to close all those tabs. UPDATE 6: Chrome updated to v27 Stable channel, this problem is nearly gone. This does happen occasionally, but not as frequent as in earlier versions of Chrome. UPDATE 7: I am on Chrome v35.0.1916.114 Stable, Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1. Some of the other problems appears to be back. Chrome is slow and laggy again. Re-draw time is getting worse. Is anybody else experiencing such issues? Does anybody have a solution to any of these?

  • the font of xubuntu

    - by ubuntu
    HI: How to set the default font for different language in the xubuntu? For example, I am using xubuntu9.10(English release),and I do not like the default English and Chinese font. I have tried to use "Application-setting-appearance-fonts" to edit the default font,however it just work for the English. The default font of Chinese is "WenQuanYi Zen Hei". I do not like it. I want to use "Microsoft YaHei", I copy this file from my Win7 system. And I tried remove the "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" by "sudo aptitude remove ttf-wqy",it show me it is successfully removed. Also I have modify the file: /etc/fonts/conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf to: <fontconfig> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>serif</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>Bitstream Vera Serif</string> <string>DejaVu Serif</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>sans-serif</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Bitstream Vera Sans</string> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>DejaVu Sans</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>monospace</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Bitstream Vera Sans Mono</string> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>DejaVu Sans Mono</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> </fontconfig> However when I use the firefox, I found the title of the firefox window is not YaHei. See the image here So what is the problem?

  • How to redirect http requests to https (nginx)

    - by spuder
There appear to be many questions and guides out there that instruct how to setup nginx to redirect http requests to https. Many are outdated, or just flat out wrong. # MANAGED BY PUPPET upstream gitlab { server unix:/home/git/gitlab/tmp/sockets/gitlab.socket; } # setup server with or without https depending on gitlab::gitlab_ssl variable server { listen *:80; server_name gitlab.localdomain; server_tokens off; root /nowhere; rewrite ^ https://$server_name$request_uri permanent; } server { listen *:443 ssl default_server; server_name gitlab.localdomain; server_tokens off; root /home/git/gitlab/public; ssl on; ssl_certificate /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem; ssl_certificate_key /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key; ssl_protocols SSLv3 TLSv1 TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2; ssl_ciphers AES:HIGH:!ADH:!MDF; ssl_prefer_server_ciphers on; # individual nginx logs for this gitlab vhost access_log /var/log/nginx/gitlab_access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/gitlab_error.log; location / { # serve static files from defined root folder;. # @gitlab is a named location for the upstream fallback, see below try_files $uri $uri/index.html $uri.html @gitlab; } # if a file, which is not found in the root folder is requested, # then the proxy pass the request to the upsteam (gitlab puma) location @gitlab { proxy_read_timeout 300; # https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/issues/694 proxy_connect_timeout 300; # https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/issues/694 proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Ssl on; proxy_set_header Host $http_host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_pass http://gitlab; } } I've restarted after every configuration change, and yet I still only get the 'Welcome to nginx' page when visiting http://192.168.33.10. whereas https://192.168.33.10 works perfectly.
