After all other services have started I would like to start these up - but I am a bit worried about the load of starting all 4 at the same time, so maybe a short delay would be necessary.     I'm looking to buy the new Macbook Air and, being from Windows, am unfamiliar how much memory it would be advisable to have (thinking about the 4GB upgrade). For those from the fairer OS: how much memory does the operating system take up? how much memory does Google Chrome, with 10-15 tabs open, probably a Youtube, Gmail, Docs among them, usually take up? Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint? I plan on purchasing the 1.86Ghz 13" Macbook Air.

    On Mac OS X I keep data on a local server mirrored with the same data on a remote server with a scheduled backup task done with Carbon Copy Cloner. After the backup is done a bash script is run as specified in the scheduled task options of CCC. Is the script run as root? Or differently and more generally: as my script writes to a log file, what command should I put on my script to see on the log if the script is running as root or something else?

    is there a way to fix your windows 7 professional guest host os ipaddress so it does not change every time you startup? I am currently using NAT for networking and would like to remain using this networking method if possible. In older versions of windows this never used to be a problem in vmware so I am wondering if I am missing a setting in windows 7 professional or in vmware. thank you for your help, chris

I have bought my new netbook Acer Aspire One 751h some days ago and was very unpleased with it performance - videotalking in skype is almost unuseable, watching videos on YouTube(even in standart definition) is like watching slideshow and all netbook have increadible lags if I'm running more then 4-5 programms in one time.     I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server.The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied. Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx" This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access

    OS:WinXP Say I got some files in Chinese and some files in Korean. And in windows 'Region and Language Options', I set language for non-unicode program = Chinese. Is there any way that I can read some Korean text file in text editor easily without using Microsoft Word? I need an environment that can support multiple unicode easily, I need to read Chinese, Japanese, Korean in text editor (Ultraeditor, notepad++) and terminal clients like SecureCRT.   • How can I reset the permissions of /bin /boot /etc and /dev to orignal owner, Ubuntu?

    I accidentally changed the ownership of the /bin, /boot, /etc and /dev recursively to nobody:nogroup using chown when I misplaced a forward slash! How can I resort the original file ownerships? I've managed to get them all to root:root but I'm not sure if all the files should be owned by root and if this will break something? Is they are option to fix file permissions like there is in OS X? Help!

  • Remote Desktop triggers a loud Beep on local machine - how to shut it up?

    When I remote desktop into a server, I get a loud beep coming out of my local machine whenever certain messageboxes pop up. (An example is to search for something in the Event Log - when the search finds no results, I get a message box accompanied by a loud beep) Annoyingly, the beep still happens even if I have sound turned off locally or the volume right down - it seems to be hooking in to some low level OS-beep mechanism. Any way to turn it off?

    I have a mac that is hooked into a sound board, I have external sound card that interfaces between the computer and the soundboard, this works great. However, whenever the computer restarts it sets the input & output to the 'internal microphone' and the 'built in output'. I'd like to default to the other soundcard. How can I do this? I'm running OS 10.6.3

    We have a server that has an open remote desktop port to the internet (no VPN.) Several people are allowed to log on to the machine remotely. The server runs Windows 7 (desktop OS.) I can find logon times using Event Viewer, but it does not show the IP address of the remote machine. At any rate, manually browsing Event Viewer for all login events would be time consuming, to say the least.) Is a way to find out which IP addresses are using Remote Dekstop ?

    Monodevelop from git in KDE 4.10.2 does not render text in code edit tabs I tried with xfce and text is rendered ok there. I tried disabling composition with alt shift f12 and restarting x server but it was no better. I also tried disabling font softening in monodevelop options and disabling plugins. I also tried temporarily deleting my KDE profile. This is dual screen setup on Nvidia with nouveau. OS is slackware64-current.

I've got the following @echo off. for file in *.avi do ffmpeg -i "$file" -s 640x480 -vcodec msmpeg4v2 "'basename "$file" .avi'.mpg'; done in my .bat file but it does not work. How can I make it work under Windows OS. Oh, and yes all the files are in the same folder. The error message I get: File was unexpected at this time

I'm aware of Netdrive, Webdrive and Windows' built-in WebDAV client, but these don't work as well, because they need to emulate a true filesystem. Has anyone came across this? I'm used to Coda on OS/X, so I'm hoping for something similar.
