    Hi, I am using Resources dictionaries to customize my controls and apply them as themes to my WPF application so I have implemented one for the button control. Any ideas what's wrong? Maybe another possibility, as I want the animation starts on button visible is to do a trigger for the button over Visibility property, Is it a better solution? Thanks a lot!

  • Calculus? Need help solving for a time-dependent variable given some other variables.

    Long story short, I'm making a platform game. I'm not old enough to have taken Calculus yet, so I know not of derivatives or integrals, but I know of them. The desired behavior is for my character to automagically jump when there is a block to either side of him that is above the one he's standing on; for instance, stairs. This way the player can just hold left / right to climb stairs, instead of having to spam the jump key too. The issue is with the way I've implemented jumping; I've decided to go mario-style, and allow the player to hold 'jump' longer to jump higher. To do so, I have a 'jump' variable which is added to the player's Y velocity. The jump variable increases to a set value when the 'jump' key is pressed, and decreases very quickly once the 'jump' key is released, but decreases less quickly so long as you hold the 'jump' key down, thus providing continuous acceleration up as long as you hold 'jump.' This also makes for a nice, flowing jump, rather than a visually jarring, abrupt acceleration. So, in order to account for variable stair height, I want to be able to calculate exactly what value the 'jump' variable should get in order to jump exactly to the height of the stair; preferably no more, no less, though slightly more is permissible. This way the character can jump up steep or shallow flights of stairs without it looking weird or being slow.   • What are good CLI tools for JSON?

    General Problem Though I may be diagnosing the root cause of an event, determining how many users it affected, or distilling timing logs in order to assess the performance and throughput impact of a recent code change, my tools stay the same: grep, awk, sed, tr, uniq, sort, zcat, tail, head, join, and split. To glue them all together, Unix gives us pipes, and for fancier filtering we have xargs. If these fail me, there's always perl -e. These tools are perfect for processing CSV files, tab-delimited files, log files with a predictable line format, or files with comma-separated key-value pairs. In other words, files where each line has next to no context. XML Analogues I recently needed to trawl through Gigabytes of XML to build a histogram of usage by user. This was easy enough with the tools I had, but for more complicated queries the normal approaches break down. Say I have files with items like this: <foo user="me"> <baz key="zoidberg" value="squid" /> <baz key="leela" value="cyclops" /> <baz key="fry" value="rube" /> </foo> And let's say I want to produce a mapping from user to average number of <baz>s per <foo>. Processing line-by-line is no longer an option: I need to know which user's <foo> I'm currently inspecting so I know whose average to update. Any sort of Unix one liner that accomplishes this task is likely to be inscrutable. Fortunately in XML-land, we have wonderful technologies like XPath, XQuery, and XSLT to help us. Previously, I had gotten accustomed to using the wonderful XML::XPath Perl module to accomplish queries like the one above, but after finding a TextMate Plugin that could run an XPath expression against my current window, I stopped writing one-off Perl scripts to query XML. And I just found out about XMLStarlet which is installing as I type this and which I look forward to using in the future. JSON Solutions? So this leads me to my question: are there any tools like this for JSON? It's only a matter of time before some investigation task requires me to do similar queries on JSON files, and without tools like XPath and XSLT, such a task will be a lot harder. If I had a bunch of JSON that looked like this: { "firstName": "Bender", "lastName": "Robot", "age": 200, "address": { "streetAddress": "123", "city": "New York", "state": "NY", "postalCode": "1729" }, "phoneNumber": [ { "type": "home", "number": "666 555-1234" }, { "type": "fax", "number": "666 555-4567" } ] } And wanted to find the average number of phone numbers each person had, I could do something like this with XPath: fn:avg(/fn:count(phoneNumber)) Questions Are there any command-line tools that can "query" JSON files in this way? If you have to process a bunch of JSON files on a Unix command line, what tools do you use? Heck, is there even work being done to make a query language like this for JSON? If you do use tools like this in your day-to-day work, what do you like/dislike about them? Are there any gotchas? I'm noticing more and more data serialization is being done using JSON, so processing tools like this will be crucial when analyzing large data dumps in the future. Language libraries for JSON are very strong and it's easy enough to write scripts to do this sort of processing, but to really let people play around with the data shell tools are needed.   • Can't get my object to point at the mouse.

    I'm using a combination of SDL and OpenGL in a sort of crash course project to teach myself how this all works. I'm really only interested in OpenGL as a way to use acceleration in 2D games so I just need this to work in a 2D plane. I'd really appreciate any help I could get here. I'm guessing there might be an issue here with state versus polled events but from all the tutorials that I've been through I was pretty sure I had fixed that. I've just hit a wall and I need some advice!

Thats why i save the Profesor object like this p - the manually loaded Profesor object Profesor p2 = (Profesor) session.merge(p); session.saveOrUpdate(p2); //flush session of course After this i get in the Java console: Hibernate: insert into devgar_scoala.grupe (Grupa, progStudii_id, id) values (?, ?, ?) but when i look into the database there are no new rows in the table Grupe (the Groups table)

According to the ehcache documentation it shouldn't be too complicated to add caching to my existing working application.   • RSA encryption/ Decryption in a client server application

    Hi guys, probably missing something very straight forward on this, but please forgive me, I'm very naive! Have a client server application where the client identifies its self with an RSA encrypted username & password. Unfortunately I'm getting a "bad padding exception: data must start with zero" when i try to decrypt with the public key on the client side. I'm fairly sure the key is correct as I have tested encrypting with public key then decrypting with private key on the client side with no problems at all. Just seems when I transfer it over the connection it messses it up somehow?! Using PrintWriter & BufferedReader on the sockets if thats of importance. EncodeBASE64 & DecodeBASE64 encode byte[] to 64base and vice versa respectively. Any ideas guys?? I have db2jcc.jar, db2jcc_javax.jar, db2jcc_license_cu.jar, db2policy.jar, db2ggjava.jar and db2umplugin.jar added into my Java Build Path.     I have a thread (class implementing runnable, called AnalyzeTree) organised around a hash map (ConcurrentMap slicesMap). The class goes through the data (called trees here) in the large text file and parses the geographical coordinates from it to the HashMap. The idea is to process one tree at a time and add or grow the values according to the key (which is just a Double value representing time).   • extensible database design: automatic ALTER TABLE or serialize() field BLOB ?

    I want an adaptable database scheme. But still use a simple table data gateway in my application, where I just pass an $data[] array for storing. The basic columns are settled in the initial table scheme. There will however arise a couple of meta fields later (ca 10-20). I want some flexibility there and not adapt the database manually each time, or -worse- change the application logic just because of new fields. So now there are two options which seem workable yet not overkill. But I'm not sure about the scalability or database drawbacks. (1) Automatic ALTER TABLE. Whenever the $data array is to be saved, the keys are compared against the current database columns. New columns get defined before the $data is INSERTed into the table. (2) serialize() fields into BLOB. Any new/extraneous meta fields could be opaque to the database. Simply sorting out the virtual fields from the real database columns is simple. The advantage is that there won't be any sparsely filled columns in the database, so I guess it's compacter and faster than the AUTO ALTER TABLE approach. Of course, this method prevents ever using one of the new fields in a WHERE or GROUP BY clause. But I think none of the possible meta fields (user_agent, author_ip, author_img, votes, hits, last_modified, ..) would/should ever be used there anyway. So I currently prefer the 'ext' blob approach, even if it's a one-way ticket. How are such columns called usually? (looking for examples/doc) Would you use XML serialization for (very theoretical) in-database queries? The adapting table scheme seems a "cleaner" interface, even if most columns might remain empty then. How does that impact speed? How many such sparse VARCHAR fields can MySQL/innodb stomach? But most importantly: Is there any standard implementation for this? A pseudo ORM with automatic ALTER TABLE tricks? Storing a simple column list seems workable, but something like pdo::getColumnMeta would be more robust.

    I am writing a Client/Server set of programs Depending on the operation requested by the client, I use make TCP or UDP request. Implementing the client side is straight-forward, since I can easily open connection with any protocol and send the request to the server-side. On the servers-side, on the other hand, I would like to listen both for UDP and TCP connections on the same port. Moreover, I like the the server to open new thread for each connection request. I have adopted the approach explained in: link text I have extended this code sample by creating new threads for each TCP/UDP request. This works correctly if I use TCP only, but it fails when I attempt to make UDP bindings.     Hi Guys, I have a button in a form that when clicked adds another set of form fields, In these form fields there are 2 drop downs where the contents of the 2nd dropdown rely on what is selected in the first dropdown... What i want to do is when the new form field button is clicked for the new items to be added and then the change event to be triggered on the drop down that was created so what only that drop down changes and not all the drop downs with the same name currently in that form.   • Can I retrieve objects from a complex query that limits results to fields from a single table?

    I have a model whose rows I always want to sort based on the values in another associated model and I was thinking that the way to implement this would be to use set_dataset in the model. This is causing query results to be returned as hashes rather than objects, though, so none of the methods from the class can be used when iterating over the dataset. I basically have two classes class SortFields < Sequel::Model(:sort_fields) set_primary_key :objectid end class Items < Sequel::Model(:items) set_primary_key :objectid one_to_one :sort_fields, :class => SortFields, :key => :objectid end Some backstory: the data is imported from a legacy system into mysql. The values in sort_fields are calculated from multiple other associated tables (some one-to-many, some many-to-many) according to some complicated rules. The likely solution will be to just add the values in sort_fields to items (I want to keep the imported data separate from the calculated data, but I don't have to). First, though, I just want to understand how far you can go with a dataset and still get objects rather than hashes. I've been following a tutorial and a sample application, namely 5 Days of Wicket - Writing the tests: http://www.mysticcoders.com/blog/2009/03/10/5-days-of-wicket-writing-the-tests/ I've set up my own little project with a simple shoutbox that saves messages to a database. I then wanted to set up a couple of tests that would make sure that if a message is stored in the database, the retrieved object would contain the exact same data. Upon running mvn test all my tests fail. The exception has been pasted in the first code box underneath.     Hi - I am having issues with overflow: hidden not working in my case. I have a div id=ticker which basically works like a scrolling ticker. something like this - http://www.tinymassive.com/ (whats happening section).     I have been experimenting with the following (simplified) CTE. When using a table variable () the query runs for minutes before I cancel it. Any of the other commented out methods return in less than a second. If I replace the whole WHERE clause with an INNER JOIN it is fast as well. Any ideas why using a table variable would run so slowly? FWIW: The database contains 2.5 million records and the inner query returns 2 records.     I have a Firebird database (running on server version 2.1.3) and am connecting to it with Delphi 2007 using the DBExpress objects (using the Interbase driver) One of my tables in the database looks something like this CREATE TABLE MYTABLE ( MYDATE Timestamp NOT NULL, MYINDEX Integer NOT NULL, ... Snip ... PRIMARY KEY (MYDATE ,MYINDEX) ); I can add to the table OK, and in Flame Robin it shows the timestamp field as having a millisecond value. But when I do a select all (select * from MYTABLE) on the table I can not get the millisecond value, as it is always returned as 000. This causes major problems as it is part of the primary key (unfortunately I didn't design the table and don't have authority to change it). I have tried the following to get the millisecond value: sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsDateTime; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsSQLTimeStamp; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsStirng; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsFloat; But they all return 14/09/2009 14:25:06.000 when formatted. How do I retrieve the millisecond from a timestamp? UPDATE: In case this helps anyone in the future, here are the drivers I tried for DBExpress and the results. Embarcadero - dbExpress Driver for Firebird (Delphi 2010 Trial Version) - Milliseconds not supported in timestamps.
