• Remove last character from a variable and then multiply against another variable

  I have a whole bunch of percentages stored as XX% (e.g. 12%, 50%, etc..) I need to remove the percentage sign and then multiply the percent against another variable thats just a number (e.g. 1000, 12000) and then output the result. Is there a simple way to strip the percentage sign and then calculate the output with PHP? Or should I consider some sort of JS solution?

However, I took a java seminar and now Im very interested in using GWT for upcomming projects, although I think the learning curve can be steep.   Should HTML be encoded before being stored in say, a database? Or is it normal practice to encode on its way out to the browser? Should all my text based field lengths be quadrupled in the database to allow for extra storage? Looking for best practice rather than a solid yes or no :-)

  I have seen how to add google calendar, but when I run it, it create's a new calendar, even though the selector I am using, refer's to an existing calendar. $calendar.fullCalendar({ events: $.fullCalendar.gcalFeed($feed_url.val()) }); I have other functions, that use renderEvents, but I am not sure how to use that with google calendars...   I have a page, where I have approximately 90 items I need to output. Most of them are object properties (I am using ORM so these objects map to my database tables). But the question is, do I have to escape each of those 90 outputs by applying functions to each (in my case, the htmlspecialchars)? Wouldn't that add a bit of an overhead (calling a single function 90 times)?

  I'm using the Unity 3D engine to build an iPhone app, and when I go to generate my Xcode project for compilation, it includes a few fairly large libraries: Mono.Security.dll.s, System.dll.s, System.Core.dll.s, etc. I don't know if this question is really an Xcode question or a Unity question, but I'm trying to figure out why each of those libraries is being linked - which functions / classes are being referenced - ideally so that I can rewrite my code to remove as many of the dependencies as possible. Does anybody know a way to find this information out?

  Should I validate input parameters on all functions I create? Input isn't passed from a user, but from other routines as part of an automatic process. I use error handling.
