  • How to ACTUALLY install Java on Linux?

    - by Camran
I have a Ubuntu Server. From the terminal, how should I install JDK? In this guide it says to use this command: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-jdk But on Suns website, it says JDK includes the JRE, so why the JRE in the line above? Anybody know how to actually install Java? Every guide and every forum shows different ways of doing it. BTW: It is a VPS (virtual private server) Thanks

  • Questions about .NET CollectionEditor

    - by smwikipedia
Who can tell me the internal working mechanism of a CollectionEditor in plain English? I have implemented every virtual function and step into each of them. Still got no clue of its intended algorithm. I searched the web and found tons of compaints about the CollectionEditor type, and even bugs. I am kind of thinking of the CollectionEditor as a total mess.

  • Fluent NHibernate SchemaExport to SQLite not pluralizing Table Names

    - by weenet
I am using SQLite as my db during development, and I want to postpone actually creating a final database until my domains are fully mapped. So I have this in my Global.asax.cs file: private void InitializeNHibernateSession() { Configuration cfg = NHibernateSession.Init( webSessionStorage, new [] { Server.MapPath("~/bin/MyNamespace.Data.dll") }, new AutoPersistenceModelGenerator().Generate(), Server.MapPath("~/NHibernate.config")); if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["DbGen"] == "true") { var export = new SchemaExport(cfg); export.Execute(true, true, false, NHibernateSession.Current.Connection, File.CreateText(@"DDL.sql")); } } The AutoPersistenceModelGenerator hooks up the various conventions, including a TableNameConvention like so: public void Apply(FluentNHibernate.Conventions.Instances.IClassInstance instance) { instance.Table(Inflector.Net.Inflector.Pluralize(instance.EntityType.Name)); } This is working nicely execpt that the sqlite db generated does not have pluralized table names. Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks.

  • How to force grails GORM to respect DB scheme ?

    - by fabien-barbier
I have two domains : class CodeSet { String id String owner String comments String geneRLF String systemAPF static hasMany = [cartridges:Cartridge] static constraints = { id(unique:true, blank:false) } static mapping = { table 'code_set' version false columns { id column:'code_set_id', generator: 'assigned' owner column:'owner' comments column:'comments' geneRLF column:'gene_rlf' systemAPF column:'system_apf' } } and : class Cartridge { String id String code_set_id Date runDate static belongsTo = CodeSet static constraints = { id(unique:true, blank:false) } static mapping = { table 'cartridge' version false columns { id column:'cartridge_id', generator: 'assigned' code_set_id column:'code_set_id' runDate column:'run_date' } } Actually, with those models, I get tables : - code_set, - cartridge, - and table : code_set_cartridge (two fields : code_set_cartridges_id, cartridge_id) I would like to not have code_set_cartridge table, but keep relationship : code_set -- 1:n -- cartridge In other words, how can I keep association between code_set and cartridge without intermediate table ? (using code_set_id as primary key in code_set and code_set_id as foreign key in cartridge). Mapping with GORM can be done without intermediate table?

  • IIS7 or .Net 301 Redirects from 1 domain to another

    - by RandomBen
I have 2 domains. For the question, I will call them www.old.com and www.new.com. Both urls are pointing to the same IIS7 Site instance. I need to it up so that when someone goes to www.old.com they get a 301 redirect to www.new.com. The tricky part is I am using URL rewrites for pages within the site. So www.old.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. To get that to work with IIS7 URL rewrite rules, it also means that www.new.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. That is fine and is not a big deal. My issue is how do I redirect the main domain without losing the URL Rewrites from the sub pages? I don't care if I use a module within IIS7 or if I need to do it in .NET code.

  • Shadows vs Overloads in VB.NET

    - by serhio
When we have new in C#, that personally I see only as a workaround to override a property that does not have a virtual/overridable declaration, in VB.NET we have two "concepts" Shadows and Overloads. In which case prefer one to another?

  • deleted gen folder, eclipse isn't generating it now :(

    - by LuxuryMode
    I accidentally deleted my gen folder and now, predictably, my resources are all messed up. I just created a gen folder myself and tried to project clean - that didn't work. Tried right-clicking project and going to android tools fix project properties - didn't work. Tried unchecking build automatically...didn't work. cleaned, closed project, closed eclipse, restarted, etc, etc. Nothing is working and I keep seeing this error: gen already exists but is not a source folder. Convert to a source folder or rename it. EDIT - OK was able to generate R.java, but now I'm getting crazy stuff in the console: [2011-06-14 17:06:11 - fastapp] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1 [2011-06-14 17:06:42 - fastapp] Dx trouble processing "java/awt/font/NumericShaper.class": Ill-advised or mistaken usage of a core class (java.* or javax.*) when not building a core library. This is often due to inadvertently including a core library file in your application's project, when using an IDE (such as Eclipse). If you are sure you're not intentionally defining a core class, then this is the most likely explanation of what's going on. However, you might actually be trying to define a class in a core namespace, the source of which you may have taken, for example, from a non-Android virtual machine project. This will most assuredly not work. At a minimum, it jeopardizes the compatibility of your app with future versions of the platform. It is also often of questionable legality. If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine distribution, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core-library" option to suppress this error message. If you go ahead and use "--core-library" but are in fact building an application, then be forewarned that your application will still fail to build or run, at some point. Please be prepared for angry customers who find, for example, that your application ceases to function once they upgrade their operating system. You will be to blame for this problem. If you are legitimately using some code that happens to be in a core package, then the easiest safe alternative you have is to repackage that code. That is, move the classes in question into your own package namespace. This means that they will never be in conflict with core system classes. JarJar is a tool that may help you in this endeavor. If you find that you cannot do this, then that is an indication that the path you are on will ultimately lead to pain, suffering, grief, and lamentation. [2011-06-14 17:06:42 - fastapp] Dx 1 error; aborting [2011-06-14 17:06:42 - fastapp] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1 And eclipse can't resolve the import of my resources import com.me.fastapp.R;

  • QValidator for hex input

    - by Evan Teran
I have a Qt widget which should only accept a hex string as input. It is very simple to restrict the input characters to [0-9A-Fa-f], but I would like to have it display with a delimiter between "bytes" so for example if the delimiter is a space, and the user types 0011223344 I would like the line edit to display 00 11 22 33 44 Now if the user presses the backspace key 3 times, then I want it to display 00 11 22 3. I almost have what i want, so far there is only one subtle bug involving using the delete key to remove a delimiter. Does anyone have a better way to implement this validator? Here's my code so far: class HexStringValidator : public QValidator { public: HexStringValidator(QObject * parent) : QValidator(parent) {} public: virtual void fixup(QString &input) const { QString temp; int index = 0; // every 2 digits insert a space if they didn't explicitly type one Q_FOREACH(QChar ch, input) { if(std::isxdigit(ch.toAscii())) { if(index != 0 && (index & 1) == 0) { temp += ' '; } temp += ch.toUpper(); ++index; } } input = temp; } virtual State validate(QString &input, int &pos) const { if(!input.isEmpty()) { // TODO: can we detect if the char which was JUST deleted // (if any was deleted) was a space? and special case this? // as to not have the bug in this case? const int char_pos = pos - input.left(pos).count(' '); int chars = 0; fixup(input); pos = 0; while(chars != char_pos) { if(input[pos] != ' ') { ++chars; } ++pos; } // favor the right side of a space if(input[pos] == ' ') { ++pos; } } return QValidator::Acceptable; } }; For now this code is functional enough, but I'd love to have it work 100% as expected. Obviously the ideal would be the just separate the display of the hex string from the actual characters stored in the QLineEdit's internal buffer but I have no idea where to start with that and I imagine is a non-trivial undertaking. In essence, I would like to have a Validator which conforms to this regex: "[0-9A-Fa-f]( [0-9A-Fa-f])*" but I don't want the user to ever have to type a space as delimiter. Likewise, when editing what they types, the spaces should be managed implicitly.

  • How to detect which Space the user is on in Mac OS X Leopard?

    - by georgebrock
Mac OS X Leopard has a virtual desktop implementation called Spaces. I want to programatically detect which space the user is currently on. Cocoa is preferable but AppleScript is acceptable if there's no other way. I've seen a couple of AppleScript implementations, but the techniques they used seemed a bit too hacky to use in production code (one relied on causing and error and then parsing the error message to get the current space, the other interrogated the Spaces menu GUI)

  • Run VirtualBox in background, without a window

  • Where is the default language data stored in OS 10.6

    - by George Baugh
From a shell in 10.4 or 10.5, I was able to do this: /usr/bin/defaults read NSGlobalDomain AppleLanguages To get the list of the language preference for that particular machine. This was done so that I could restore it back to that list after changing it with the 'defaults write' command to something else (in order to help automate l10n testing). Now, along comes OS 10.6, and AppleLanguages is nowhere in any of our defaults domains. I know that I can alter it for each running application by altering their specific property lists...but at the cost of more complexity. Also, some of the apps I have under test here are installer packages...and It's a real pain to change stuff (like the .plist I'd have to change here) in those without being somewhat destructive; that's why I chose to do it globally in the first place. Anyways, it'd be great if I could find where they stashed it now...or if they deprecated it (like a zillion other things in OS 10.6) completely.

  • How does a programmer think?

    - by Gordon Potter
This may be a hopelessly vague question. But I am interested to hear whatever logical thought processes people go through when learning a new concept or trying to get their brain around code they might not have ever seen before. Basically, what general steps does one take to to break down problems and what does it take to "get it"? If you were to diagram a flowchart of how your mental process works when you look at code or try to solve a problem what might it look like? What common references, tips, and mental assumptions do you find useful in problem solving? How is this different between different domains? For example in what ways is a web programmer's thought process similar or different from a traditional desktop app developer's process?

  • How to setup Lighttpd as a proxy for cross-site requests?

    - by NilColor
I want to setup my lighttpd server to proxy some requests (for ex. RSS requests) to other domains so i can fetch data using javascript. For example i'd like to fetch Atmo feed from internal Redmine (say http://code.internal.acme) to developer dashboard (say http://dashboard.internal.acme). I'd like to fetch it using JavaScript but i cant use something like JSONP and i don't want to use Flash for that. Currently i have this in my lighttpd.conf proxy.server = ( "/http-bind/" => ( ( "host" => "10.0.100.52", "port" => 5280 ) ) ) This way i can connect to our internal jabber server via Javascript. But i want more generic way... Something like proxy.server = ( "/proxy/{1}" => ( ( "url" => {1} ) ) )

  • ActiveMQ - sending message to specific consumer

    - by archer
Hello. Having single AMQ broker and 100 consumers connected. I would send the message to some specific consumer, so other consumers does not receive it (client-side filtering won't work). Simplest way is to create virtual destinations (name them queue:consumer-) for example and send messages there. However this will lead to 100 new queues which makes it more complex to monitor. Is there any other way to do this having single queue?

  • std::ostream interface to an OLE IStream

    - by PaulH
    I have a Visual Studio 2008 C++ application using IStreams. I would like to use the IStream connection in a std::ostream. Something like this: IStream* stream = /*create valid IStream instance...*/; IStreamBuf< WIN32_FIND_DATA > sb( stream ); std::ostream os( &sb ); WIN32_FIND_DATA d = { 0 }; // send the structure along the IStream os << d; To accomplish this, I've implemented the following code: template< class _CharT, class _Traits > inline std::basic_ostream< _CharT, _Traits >& operator<<( std::basic_ostream< _CharT, _Traits >& os, const WIN32_FIND_DATA& i ) { const _CharT* c = reinterpret_cast< const _CharT* >( &i ); const _CharT* const end = c + sizeof( WIN32_FIND_DATA ) / sizeof( _CharT ); for( c; c < end; ++c ) os << *c; return os; } template< typename T > class IStreamBuf : public std::streambuf { public: IStreamBuf( IStream* stream ) : stream_( stream ) { setp( reinterpret_cast< char* >( &buffer_ ), reinterpret_cast< char* >( &buffer_ ) + sizeof( buffer_ ) ); }; virtual ~IStreamBuf() { sync(); }; protected: traits_type::int_type FlushBuffer() { int bytes = std::min< int >( pptr() - pbase(), sizeof( buffer_ ) ); DWORD written = 0; HRESULT hr = stream_->Write( &buffer_, bytes, &written ); if( FAILED( hr ) ) { return traits_type::eof(); } pbump( -bytes ); return bytes; }; virtual int sync() { if( FlushBuffer() == traits_type::eof() ) return -1; return 0; }; traits_type::int_type overflow( traits_type::int_type ch ) { if( FlushBuffer() == traits_type::eof() ) return traits_type::eof(); if( ch != traits_type::eof() ) { *pptr() = ch; pbump( 1 ); } return ch; }; private: /// data queued up to be sent T buffer_; /// output stream IStream* stream_; }; // class IStreamBuf Yes, the code compiles and seems to work, but I've not had the pleasure of implementing a std::streambuf before. So, I'd just like to know if it's correct and complete. Thanks, PaulH

  • What features would you like to see removed from C++?

    - by Justin Ethier
This question was inspired by what-features-would-you-like-to-see-added-to-c. anBasically, C++ is a great general-purpose language. But perhaps too general and feature-rich... multiple inheritance, operator overloading, manual memory management, templates, smart pointers, virtual destructors, legacy frameworks (think MFC), and I could just go on. Is there any one feature / aspect of C++ that you would like taken away, to make our lives easier as C++ developers? One feature per answer, please.
