• ASP.NET MVC, JSON & non JavaScript clients

  I need to ensure that an application I am developing is accessable and also works with JavaScript turned off. I just need a pointer to assist with the following. I had 3 'chained' select boxes and I wanted JavaScript enabled clients to have a nice Ajax experience. I can easily write the required functionality to populate the chained boxes on the change event of the preceeding select using jQuery and JSON with a WCF service. However what about the non JavaScript client? Would I wrap a submit next to the select and place these inside their own form to post back with a certain action or different querstring parameter? Can the same controller give me a partial JSON response as well as feeding the full HTML response. Can anyone point me to a good demo that utilises both JSON and normal HTTP posts to produce the same result in ASP.NET MVC. All ASP.NET MVC demo/examples I see forget about the non JavaScript enabled client.

• Wordpress custom post_type templates

  We are currently working on a Wordpress page that reuses data from another Application. To keep things clean, but still use most wordpress features, we decided to use custom post_type settings (register_post_type) for this data. Now the Problem is, that while accessing these Posts is no problem, the Permalink's to them fail with 404's. We currently work around this issue by adding an action to the "template_redirect" hook that essentially performs a query_posts for the name and our custom types. If query_posts found something we load our custom post templates with locate_template. Although this is working, it does not look like a clean solution - can anyone here propose a better way to tackle our problems?

  I need to convert string like this: $url = 'module/controller/action/param1/param1value/paramX/paramXvalue'; to url regarding current router (including translation and so on). Usually I generate the target urls using url view helper, but for this I need to specify all params, so I would need to manually explode the string. I tried to use request object, like this: $request = new Zend_Controller_Request_Http(); // some code here passing the $url Zend_Debug::dump($request->getControllerName()); // null instead of 'controllers' Zend_Debug::dump($request->getParams()); // null instead of array but this seems to be suspected. Do I need to dispatch this request? How to handle this case well?

• resetting the image in an NSView

  I think this is a very simple question, but I’m new to programming so I may be going about it in a wrong-headed way. I have a basic understanding of Objective-C writing terminal applications and am teaching myself how to use the Cocoa GUI. I understand how to use IBOutlet and IBAction to connect a simple button to a method that will repeatedly send random numbers to a textfield . I understand how to add a NSView file, connect it to a custom view in interface builder and draw a path through random points in the view when the application launches. (I’ve been putting this code inside the - (void)drawRect:(NSRect)dirtyRect method that is declared when the file is created). What I can’t seem to figure out is how to connect a button to an action that will then ‘refresh’ the view – in this case repopulate it with another set of random points connected with a path. Looking at the documentation, I think I should somehow be using – (void) setNeedsDisplay(BOOL)flag but nothing I have tried so far had worked. Please tell me, what am I missing here?

  Thanks for checking out my problem... I'm having trouble submitting a login form via Ajax for a php script to run and return a new set of html items which will be replacing the HTML in #userlinks.... heres what I have so far $("#login_form").submit(function() { return false; }); $('#login_button').click(function(event) { $form = $(this).parent("form"); $.post($form.attr("action"), $form.serialize(), function(data){ $('#userlinks').html(data); }); }); The php script checks for post data of username && password, yet all I'm getting is a page refresh and no changes. Nothing returns unless I turn login_button into a link and change the script a bit... Any help would be appreciated!

• mocking command object in grails controller results in hasErrors() return false no matter what! Plea

  I have a controller that uses a command object in a controller action. When mocking this command object in a grails' controller unit test, the hasErrors() method always returns false, even when I am purposefully violating its constraints. def save = { RegistrationForm form -> if(form.hasErrors()) { // code block never gets executed } else { // code block always gets executed } } In the test itself, I do this: mockCommandObject(RegistrationForm) def form = new RegistrationForm(emailAddress: "ken.bad@gmail", password: "secret", confirmPassword: "wrong") controller.save(form) I am purposefully giving it a bad email address, and I am making sure the password and the confirmPassword properties are different. In this case, hasErrors() should return true... but it doesn't. Right now, I can't successfully delete a previous address because validation is occurring and stating that the input components need to be filled in on the previous address record on the form. How can I bypass this validation? I thought the "immediate=true" attribute on the command button would have accomplished it but that's not cutting it in my case...

  I have a page that I want to redirect to that requires parameters in the URL: http://www.mysite.com/myController/myAction/param1:val1/param2:val2 I know that there is a Cake PHP redirect function for redirecting that works as follows: $this->redirect(array("controller" => "myController", "action" => "myAction", $data_can_be_passed_here), $status, $exit); How do I add the parameters that I want as part of the url using the above function? I would think that there might be another element that I could add to array so that I can pass along "param1:val1" and "param2:val2". Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Handling Exceptions that happen in a asp.net MVC Controller Constructor

  What's the best way to handle exceptions that happen from within a controller's constructor? All I can think of to do is use Application_OnError() or put a try/catch in my ControllerFactory. Neither of these solutions seem ideal. Application_OnError is to broad - I have some non-mvc content in the site that has its own error handling. Using a try/catch block seems kinda hacky. If I'm serving different content type -html/text/json/rss.... I would like to be able to handle the exception from within the action method instead of having to write all kinds of conditions to determine what kind of error message to serve. Am I missing something here, or has anyone else dealt with this?

  Hi i added one Broadcast listener for LocationManager [GPS_PROVIDER] with a pending intent. so now when i close my application on phone location manager is updating the broadcast listener perfectly... so this is working fine. Now issue is, i want to stop the LocationManager to update the Broadcast listener... but i am not able to do so... i am again running the application and using locationManager.removeUpdates function to stop it but it still updating the location to Broadcast Manager.   Hello, TRUE/FALSE if clauses are easily and quickly done in R. However, if the argument gets more complex, it also gets ugly very soon. For instance: I might want to execute different operations for a row(foo) dependent on the value in one cell (foo[1]). Let the intervals be 0:39 and 40:59 and 60:100 Something like does not exit: (if foo[1] "in" 40:60){... In fact, I only see ways of at least two if clauses and two else statements and the action for the first interval somewhere at the bottom of the code. With more intervals(or any other condition) it is getting more complex. Is there a best practice (for this purpose or others) with a simple construction and nice design to read? Thanks a lot!

My question; is this approach secure? is there a better/more efficient way for doing this? All suggestions are welcome.

Each folder has a small web.config that protects the contents against access by people without a role for that business area. However, basic admin for most business areas is done via Dynamic Data pages. These are only basically protected by not appearing in the menu unless the user has the correct role, but they are still accessible directly via URL, because of the {table}/{Action} routing used by Dynamic Data. What can I do to protect these pages against direct access?

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString?   A generic method is defined as follows: private static T GetComparisonObject<T>(ComparisonAttribute attribute, object objectToParse) { // Perform a some action return (T)resultObject; } The method is invoked as follows: var srcObjectToCompare = GetComparisonObject<DynamicType>(attributeToCompare, srcObject); The type for which the method needs to be invoked is configured in the config file as: <add attributename ="Count" attributetype ="MemberInformation" attributeparam ="Count" type="System.Int32" comparertype="ditCreditEMGTestAutomationDifferenceEngine.Comparers.TypeComparer, ditCreditEMGTestAutomationDifferenceEngine.dll" /> The token that is passed in < for the generic methods has to be the type for which the method is being invoked. From the type key configuration in the XML, an instance of Type represnting the type can be created{i.e. Type.GetType("System.Int32")}, but how can the Type Definition be generated which can then be passed to the the Generic method?
