• Big and reaaaally strange problem with a web server (host InMotion Hosting)

  Hi. I have a terrible problem that I have tried to solve since three days ago: I browse my own web site and after a while I cannot access the web site. AT ALL! I can only see a 501 error message: "Method Not Implemented. GET to / not supported. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." Once I get that error the site is totally and permanently inaccessible in that browser!! Reboot, browser restarts, clear cache, clear all history and cookies, etc., are not working. I have reproduced it in 4 different computers. Three computers are in one city, the 4th is in another city. Two different ISP's also. One computer is Linux, the others are on Windows (XP and 2000). Browsers are FF 3 to FF3.5 and IE 8. The error is ALMOST reproducible on demand (for me at least). It appears when I browse the forum under certain circumstances. I don't know which are these circumstances, but if I browse it long enough (10 sec to 5 minutes) it eventually appears. Just to make it clear, once the error appears (while browsing the forum) then the whole web site become inaccessible, not only the forum! My host is not willing to help because they say they cannot reproduce the error. I sent screenoshots but they don't care. NEWS Reseting browser's settings from the 'Tools-Clear private data' din't worked. However! When I have cleared the same settings (more exaclty) cookies from the special menu that appears when you right click website's icon, it worked. So it was something related to a cookie BUT it manifests in all browsers (FF, IE, Opera). So it cannot be a browser related problem.

• Force Installing a Radeon HD 2100 on Windows 8

  I'm trying force installing a Radeon HD 2100 on Windows 8. I've found that link from AMD with the drivers for Windows7: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-vista64.aspx I know too that AMD will stop support Radeon HD 400 and older: http://www.techspot.com/news/48321-amd-drops-windows-8-support-for-radeon-hd-4000-and-older.html Now, let's go to the problem. If I try install the 12.6 driver, Windows will stick with the "basic display adapter", and this is bad for 3d games like Minecraft, that runs really slow now compared with the previous Windows7 installation. Forcing install the catalyst driver can help to fix it. So, I follow that steps: Extract the Catalist Driver (C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql) Right click the "basic display adapter" on device manager, and "update driver" Search on PC I will choose the driver "With Disk" "C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF" There is a big list of drivers and the nearest driver to HD 2100 is "Radeon HD 2350 Series" My questions: Why isn't "Radeon HD 2100 Series" listed? (or Where is it listed?) In theory it must be listed" The first link above show that "This article applies to the following configuration(s):" (...) "AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series" Am I doing something wrong?

• Corrupted Laptop - Transfer Data Without My Computer (explorer.exe) Using Command Line

  I have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite) that is pretty messed up. The person this belongs too already replaced it with a new machine. My job is to transfer all her data from this machine to disk so that I can transfer it to her. She doesn't want to lose any data (understandably so). Any operation I attempted (i.e., double clicking on any folder icon, like My Documents, My Computer, etc) resulted din a complete crash. The only good news is that I can actually start and navigate around using the command line. Also, I can access the internet. I have a network, so if I can map the drives I can get this thing figured out (hopefully). Also, I tried a USB drive but I couldn't figure out how to access it from the command line. Two questions (I need to use the command line for these): How would I go about accessing the USB drive and how can I map the shared drives on my network so that I may cd to that directory for use of the copy command?

  Here's the question... Considering 192 trillion records, what should my considerations be? My main concern is speed. Here's the table... The SELECT's will be done much more frequently than the INSERT. However, occasionally I want to add a few hundred records at a time. Load-wise, there will be nothing for hours then maybe a few thousand queries all at once. Don't think I can normalize any more (need the p values in a combination) The database as a whole is very relational. This will be the largest table by far (next largest is about 900k) UPDATE (08/11/2010) Interestingly, I've been given a second option... Instead of 192 trillion I could store 2.6*10^16 (15 zeros, meaning 26 Quadrillion)... But in this second option I would only need to store one bigint(18) as the index in a table. That's it - just the one column. So I would just be checking for the existence of a value. Occasionally adding records, never deleting them. So that makes me think there must be a better solution then mysql for simply storing numbers... Given this second option, should I take it or stick with the first... [edit] Just got news of some testing that's been done - 100 million rows with this setup returns the query in 0.0004 seconds [/edit]

I need to audit DB changes- insert\updates\deletes to business objects. I can think of three ways to do this 1) DB Triggers 2) Hibernate interceptors 3) Spring AOP (This question is specific to a Spring\Hibernate\RDBMS- I guess this is neutral to java\c# or hibernate\nhibernate- but if your answer is dependent upon C++ or Java or specific implementation of hibernate- please specify) What are the pros and cons of selecting one of these strategies ? • Plastic SCM vs. SVN

  I'm currently researching new source control options for a team of 10 developers. We do .net development in Visual Studio 2008. We currently use VSS for source control. We are looking for a centralized source control solution(non-distributed), with a nice Visual Studio plugin. My manager has recommended Plastic SCM and I've always heard good things about Subversion. I'm trying to decide if we should adopt Subversion or Plastic SCM. There isn't much information out there about Plastic SCM (except what they've written) and I was wondering if it would be a good solution. They make it sound as if branching is much simpler. Subversion on the other hand has a robust, mature community, and it has been thoroughly field tested. What are the pros and cons to these tools? Also are there any other tools that you could suggest?   Recently, I've noticed that I've lost all patience with programming articles, and started watching screencasts instead. For example, the ASP.NET MVC site had lots of screencasts, so I watched those and got coding in no time. I was therefore wondering what the community thinks about screencasts and articles, particularly as I'm considering contributing material, and am pondering the format. • Is git / tortoisegit ready to replace snv / tortoisesvn on windows?

  I've been using svn thru tortoise and svn:// protocol on windows for a couple of years and I'm pretty comfortable with it. Nevertheless tThere are a couple of features I'd like to hove, mainly shelves (something like local commits) and easier branch / merge support. From my experience, svn / tortoise on windows is rock solid stuff. I was wondering if git / tortoisegit has achieved the level of maturity and stability so as to be a replacement for svn on windows. Modify the original grammar to remove the left recursion using some procedure Write the grammar originally not to have the left recursion What people normally use for removing (not having) the left recursion with ANTLR? I've used flex/bison for parser, but I need to use ANTLR. The only thing I'm concerned about using ANTLR (or LL parser in genearal) is left recursion removal. In practical sense, how serious of removing left recursion in ANTLR? Is this a showstopper in using ANTLR? Or, nobody cares about it in ANTLR community? I like the idea of AST generation of ANTLR. In terms of getting AST quick and easy way, which method (out of the 2 removing left recursion methods) is preferable?

• How to delete SMS from inbox in android programmatically?

  Just thought I'd ping this community to see if there's any knowledge on this issue. On android phones SMS messages registered to applications also get sent to the device's inbox. However to prevent clutter, it'd be nice to be able to remove app specific SMS mesg's from the inbox to reduce the potential overflow of those messages. Questions on other google groups on getting a definitive answer on a programmatic way to delete SMS messages from the android inbox don't seem to be pressing. So the scenario: Android App startup. register SMS message types X,Y and Z messages P,Q,X,Y,Z stream in over the course of time, all deposited in inbox Android app detects receipt of X,Y,Z (presumably as part of the program interrupt event) process X,Y,Z Desirement!!! X,Y,Z are deleted from android inbox Has it been done? Can it be done?

• ExtAsp or Coolite - ASP.NET wrappers around ExtJs

  Hi, We are a small Microsoft shop looking into ExtJs and like the rapid building of complex and structured UIs that can be achieved with the toolkit. However we have been experimenting with ExtAsp.NET (CodePlex) which is an opensource layer of ASP.NET code which wraps around the ExtJs framework. We have also noticed the Coolite framework which looks good too and does the same thing. We have 2 options, either we purchase the ExtJs license which will be required if we use ExtAsp, or we purchase the Coolite kit which includes the ExtJs license. It looks like Coolite is actually it little cheaper than the ExtJs for some reason?? However, is it a little more risky as regards upgrade path if the Coolite framework becomes unsupported, whereas ExtAsp as an open source solution will have community backing? Just looking to make the right step.

• Interesting SQL Sorting Issue

  It's crunch time, deadline for my most recent contract is coming in two days and almost everything is complete and working fine (knock on wood) except for one issue. In one of my stored procedures, I'm needing to return a result set as follows. group_id | name A101 | Craig A102 | Craig Z101 | Craig Z102 | Craig A101 | Jim A102 | Jim Z101 | Jim Z102 | Jim B101 | Andy B102 | Andy Z101 | Andy Z102 | Andy The names need to be sorted by the first character of the group id and also include the Z101/Z102 entries. By sorting strictly by the group id, I get a result set as follows: A101 | Craig A102 | Craig A101 | Jim A102 | Jim B101 | Andy B102 | Andy Z101 | Andy Z102 | Andy Z101 | Jim Z102 | Jim I really can't think of a solution that doesn't involve me making a cursor and bloating the stored procedure up more than it already is. I'm sure a great mind out there has an elegant solution and I'm eager to see what the community can come up with. Thanks a ton in advance.

Seriously, wikipedia doesn't cover it well, and I read an article on HN recently comparing git and bzr in some detail, but the author admitted knowing little about mercurial, and the other options didn't get mentioned. (I'm happily using fossil on small win/mac/Linux projects) Please restrict answers to the DVCS aspects of the tool, e.g. The basic unit of vc in hit is the repository- in bazaar it is the branch(http://unspecified.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/why-git-aint-better-than-x/). bugtrackers and wikis are nice, but I'm really interested in the tools themselves, rather than any extras. Unfortunately SO demands a single 'right answer', so I'm making the question community wiki in the hope that users will contribute their knowledge.

  There's about 2 months left in Al Zimmermann's Son of Darts programming contest, and I'd like to improve my standing (currently in the 60s) to something more respectable. I'd like to get some ideas from the great community of stackoverflow on how best to approach this problem. The contest problem is known as the Global Postage Stamp Problem in literatures. I don't have much experience with optimization algorithms (I know of hillclimbing and simulated annealing in concept only from college), and in fact the program that I have right now is basically sheer brute force, which of course isn't feasible for the larger search spaces.   This is similar to my previous efforts (wordEnds and repeatEnd): as a mental exercise, I want to solve this toy problem using regex only. Description from codingbat.com: Given a string and a non-empty word string, return a version of the original string where all chars have been replaced by pluses ("+"), except for appearances of the word string which are preserved unchanged. plusOut("12xy34", "xy") ? "++xy++" plusOut("12xy34", "1") ? "1+++++" plusOut("12xy34xyabcxy", "xy") ? "++xy++xy+++xy" There is no mention whether or not to allow overlap (e.g. what is plusOut("+xAxAx+", "xAx")?), but my non-regex solution doesn't handle overlap and it passes, so I guess we can assume non-overlapping occurrences of word if it makes it simpler. In any case, I'd like to solve this using regex (of the same style that I did before with the other two problems), but I'm absolutely stumped. I don't even have anything to show, because I have nothing that works. So let's see what the stackoverflow community comes up with.

  Hello. I am developing a site (ASP.Net based) that, besides other features enables the users to blog as well. I am thinking of integrating BlogEngine.Net to my portal. From whatever little I have analyzed, integrating at presentation layer will be far more challenging in comparison to doing so at business layer. That means (I guess) I will have to use the BlogEngine.Core.dll in my application. I am looking for some sort of approval from the community, complimented with suggested do's and dont's. BTW, I find the business layer a bit intimidating (complex) as I want some basic & necessary features only.

• Magento - edit form in custom module grid

  I have a custom module and I have a working grid to menage the module items in the admin. My module file structore is : app\code\local\G4R\GroupSales\Block\Adminhtml\Groupsale\ I want to add an edit form so I can view and edit each item in the grid. • How To Update a Facebook App Page Status

  Hi all, I've done a few searches and couldn't find an answer. I'm trying to update the status of my business's "Application Page" (not personal page, and not "Fan Page") on Facebook. Two questions for the community: 1) How to update the "Application Page" status programmatically? I found the answer for a "Fan Page" here (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2097665/authorizing-a-facebook-fan-page-for-status-updates). Does anyone think it will work for an "Application Page" as well? 2) How to update the "Application Page" status through a third party service? Ideally, I'd like to post to one location and have it show up a) on my business twitter status and b) on my Facebook "Application Page" status.
