• Looking for a simple web interface with subversion support and ticket /issue tracker [closed]

  I am working on a small project and we have a few programmers on the job. We are using subversion to commit updates and keep all developers up to date on their workstations. However, we have yet to find a suitable web interface to use for it. I have tried redmine, but that installation progress was extremely bothersome and advanced. Once I got it to work I found out that it was slow and did not meet my expectations. As well as it seems a bit complex for our needs. I would prefer to find a solution that supports lighttpd web server, however that seem to be very hard to come by, those I have found seem to only have apache support. Functionality i wish for the website: - login to an svn account - view svn logs - view & create issues, todo list etc - view svn difference Do you have any open source recommendations that I can try out? I will appreciate any kind of reply. :) Edit: I wish to host the website on our own servers.

• How to prevent a URL in an email I send from being auto-linked by the recipient's email client?

  When I type a URL into an email in Outlook, it automatically converts it to a hyperlink. I can, of course, remove the hyperlink from the context menu: But, then when the email is received and when I view it in my Sent Items folder, the urls are again converted to hyperlinks. How can I prevent this? Embedded images are no good because the URL must be copy and pasteable (among numerous other reasons that this approach is not great). And it must retain the formatting applied when I send it. This answer on stackoverflow shows a good trick for preventing auto linked urls when sending an email programmatically, but I'm looking for a way to do this from the UI. Perhaps there a way to edit the HTML of the message before it is sent? If not, I guess I'm off to write an Outlook Add-in.

• DI and hypothetical readonly setters in C#

  Sometimes I would like to declare a property like this: public string Name { get; readonly set; } I am wondering if anyone sees a reason why such a syntax shouldn't exist. I believe that because it is a subset of "get; private set;", it could only make code more robust. My feeling is that such setters would be extremely DI friendly, but of course I'm more interested in hearing your opinions than my own, so what do you think? I am aware of 'public readonly' fields, but those are not interface friendly so I don't even consider them. That said, I don't mind if you bring them up into the discussion Edit I realize reading the comments that perhaps my idea is a little confusing. The ultimate purpose of this new syntax would be to have an automatic property syntax that specifies that the backing private field should be readonly. Basically declaring a property using my hypothetical syntax public string Name { get; readonly set; } would be interpreted by C# as: private readonly string name; public string Name { get { return this.name; } } And the reason I say this would be DI friendly is because when we rely heavily on constructor injection, I believe it is good practice to declare our constructor injected fields as readonly.

  I just read this quote from Steve Jobs: "Doing LSD was one of the two or three most important things I have done in my life." Also a quote from that article: He was hardly alone among computer scientists in his appreciation of hallucinogenics and their capacity to liberate human thought from the prison of the mind. Now I'm wondering if there's any evidence to support the theory that drugs can help make a "better" programmer. Has there ever been a study where programmers have been given drugs to see if they could produce "better" code? Is there a well-known programming concept or piece of code which originated from people who were on drugs? EDIT So I did a little more research and it turns out Dennis R. Wier actually documented how he took LSD to wrap his head around a coding project: "At one point in the project I could not get an overall viewpoint for the operation of the entire system. It really was too much for my brain to keep all the subtle aspects and processing nuances clear so I could get a processing and design overview. After struggling with this problem for a few weeks, I decided to use a little acid to see if it would enable a breakthrough, because otherwise, I would not be able to complete the project and be certain of a consistent overall design"[1] There is also an interesting article on wired about Kevin Herbet, who used LSD to solve tough technical problems and chemist Kary Mullis even said "...that LSD had helped him develop the polymerase chain reaction that helps amplify specific DNA sequences." • Squid traffic tunneled through VPN

  So what I'm trying to do is have a Squid Proxy run on 1 machine along side a VPN connection. What I want to happen is all traffic running though the Squad Proxy would run though the VPN for its outbound. ie Desktop - (Squid Proxy - VPN) The goal is to allow my desktop selective tunneling through the VPN. So that Instant Messaging and the like that do not need to run through the VPN can go through my normal traffic. Typically I would go though a SSH Proxy but currently am forced to use VPN to gain entry into the office, and a Squid proxy seemed like it might work out the easiest for what I am needing. EDIT Realize I forgot to actually state what problem I'm running into. I have the Squid setup and verified it works, but once I connect to the VPN. All requests to Squid get accepted but Squid is unable to make the request over the VPN. So the client ends up just sitting there.

• Getting a lot of postmaster undeliverable notices for non-existent users

  I've had my domain (straightpathsql.com) for a few years now. I host my e-mail with Google Accounts for business and have for awhile. ALl of the sudden in the past week I am starting to get a lot of postmaster delivery fail notices from various domains, most of them involving bogus e-mail addresses at my domain ([email protected], for example)... My assumption here is that someone is trying to relay on some other host (not my hosts which are secure through google apps for business, I presume) and there isn't much I can do to stop it. But I just want to make sure there isn't something else I need to be looking at here.. An example delivery fail notice is below.. I know nothing of those addresses below and they look like garbage... (Quick edit: the reason I get these messages is I set myself up as a catch all, so it doesn't matter what e-mail you send a note to at my domain, I'll get it if the account isn't setup... All of the failure messages are sent to bogus addresses on my domain) The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable. • How to register putty public key on windows server 2003?

  So we were trying to transfer files from unix server to a windows server 2003. I currently don't have any visibility on the unix server since it is being handled by another team. So in order for the 2 servers to establish connection, they sent us a public key which they said that we need to register on our windows server 2003 machine. can anyone help me? i cant seem to find anything about registering this public key generated by putty on a windows server 2003. there's no directory to put the public key(like in linux authorized_keys). Any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance. EDIT: we're trying to transfer file via pscp if this info is needed.

• ecryptfs - decrypt and mount at boot with USB key

  I have a system running Ubuntu Server as a testbed for some services that I want to get familiar with. I decided to let the installation procedure set up encryption. I knew all along that I would have to decrypt it with the passphrase in order to get the system booted, but I assumed it wouldn't matter since it will only boot once or twice a month. However, my brother has informed me that he is a victim of power outages at the residence where this server is located. This means we have to explain to his girlfriend how to turn on the computer, attach a keyboard, connect a monitor (she just can't understand that she can type to the computer without a display, so whatever) and input the passphrase for us, while we are at work. I have arrived at the conclusion that I should just put together a USB key that can be plugged in before powering on the computer, to avoid all the trouble. Is this possible with ecryptfs? Is there a tutorial or simple list of instructions available so that I can knock this out and focus back on the stuff I care about? EDIT: I am aware that this is possible with LUKS and dm-crypt, but unfortunately the magical encryption that Ubuntu hands you during the installation is only ecryptfs so my question is specific to that.

Ive created a vector2 for speed and ive attempted creating a method which moves the snake within the snake class. Now I'm confused and not sure what to do next. Appreciate any help. • Color Management, Linux, Photoshop C2 via Wine

  I am new to Color Management CMS, so doing it on Linux, and then throw Wine into the mix ... and I am a little lost. However, I have Photoshop CS2 running okay with Crossover Professional on Ubuntu 9.10. I have a Canon 450D (Rebel XSI) and I imagine I will be able to find a profile for my printer. I ordered a Huey Calibrator (yet to come). I guess I will run into problems with Nvidia Twinview, but one calibrated monitor is good enough for now. Am I going to be able to get color management from Camera -- Monitor -- Print? Most specifically, when I get the Monitor profile loaded with something like xcalib, will Photoshop CS2 run through wine (crossover Pro) understand that? Will I need to select specific things / profiles in photoshop under the edit::Color Settings menu? I found several pages on http://jcornuz.wordpress.com/ helpful, but am wondering about the Wine issue, and anything else anyone can do to help.

• How to remove IMAP account from Thunderbird's "Grouped Inbox"

  I have four IMAP accounts "merged" into one using Thunderbird 2's "Grouped inbox" view. I want to take one of the four accounts out of the grouped view. It is a maintenance mailbox that contains a lot of status mails. Those mails tend to clog my "real" inbox. I am able to edit the Inbox folder using "Properties". In the list that comes up, it is possible to de-select the maintenance mailbox and everything works fine. However, if I restart Thunderbird, it will forget what I de-selected and use all four mailboxes again. Is there any way to make Thunderbird remember the change?

After some amount of time, firewall rule is removed for that IP I would like to know the following: Is this a typical setup? If it is a bad idea, please explain why. If it is possible, are there any packages that assist with this? Specifically, the third step, where the appropriate firewall rule would need to be added...   What resources (books, Web pages etc) would you recommend that: explain the causes of latency in TCP/IP-over-Ethernet networks; mention tools for looking out for things that cause latency (e.g. certain entries in netstat -s); suggest ways to tweak the Linux TCP stack to reduce TCP latency (Nagle, socket buffers etc). The closest I am aware of is this document, but it's rather brief. Alternatively, you're welcome to answer the above questions directly. edit To be clear, the question isn't just about "abnormal" latency, but about latency in general. Additionally, it is specifically about TCP/IP-over-Ethernet and not about other protocols (even if they have better latency characteristics.)

• How can I set external monitor as default?

  I have connected an external monitor to my laptop through HDMI. Currently either my Desktop is getting extended to the external monitor (with native resolution) or low resolution on both when I choose "Same Image in both". How can I ensure that the external monitor is used by default and the laptop monitor just blanks. I generated the xorg.conf file by doing: X -configure The following is the content of xorg.conf.new file generated in my user folder. Should I copy this anywhere? Should I edit the contents? • What kinds of demos are good to make for a software engineer job

  I have created my cv site and sent out my demos for a while now, but most of my demos are either from my course or games related since my course was a games programming course, I was wondering what kind of demos are good to show off my skills in programming in general. These are what i already have Pennies:just a simple game first coursework i did. Compiler:coursework for compiler writing module Pongout: basic a pong game in 68k using colour detection Snake: snake in 68k same thing as the pong Game Cube Maze: gamecube work BeatmyBot: basic Ai Basic plat-former game: 2d game with different types of collision Turing Lambda Simulation: my dissertation Turing machine simulated in Miranda. alpha and Beta reduction,and SKI calculus simulated in the Turing machine. What I am asking here is what kind of demos are good to add or have, i have been looking and have hit a tough spot I cant think of anything to make more than games. so for a general graduate software engineer what types would be good examples? • Best Amazon S3 File Manager Utility?

  Ever since I started using Amazon's S3 service I've been struggling to find a good solution for simple file management, without having to write my own app to browse my buckets, upload and delete files, etc. The best I've found so far to do this is S3Fox. But it's far from perfect, it has problems deleting files and folders. Comments on the Firefox plugin page indicate I'm not the only person with this problem and the developer does not respond to emails. I've looked around briefly, but couldn't find anything that looked any better than S3Fox. Please tell me there's a better way! Edit (07/26/2009): The Firefox S3Fox extension seems to be getting love from its developer again, the problems I was having before have gone away, and I'm using it on a regular basis now with no problems!

  I am tasked with the administration of a small office network as well as several workstations running mostly Debian and Ubuntu. There are two servers: one database & print-server, and one backup & file server. Being relatively new to this side of things, knowing enough to help myself to some degree on Linux, I would like to know what software tools and tasks/habits I can use/acquire to learn this field and be effective while doings so. I don't need to know what is the best, just what a newbie sys-admin can use as a starter-pack to learn and use as a base to grow into proper system administration. [edit] What I need is those few basic tools to start with, and the kind of things I need to do regularly, e.g.: which logs to check, when & what to monitor, the kind of 'right' place to start and to which I can ad as I need.

• dhclient configures /etc/resolv.conf with invalid entry

  I'm trying to figure out why running dhclient on my interface sets /etc/resolv conf to the ip number of my gateway(router). This entry is invalid and each and every time causes inability to resolve any address. I would like to: stop dhclient from overwriting the /etc/resolv.conf or make dhclient write there the valid dns ip from my router More on the environment: I'm using virtual Debian Wheezy as a client system on Windows Seven x64. It is run by Virtualbox with networking mode set to bridged (all packets from debian are injected to my network interface on windows). If I manually configure the /etc/resolv.conf then everything works fine. Doing this on every boot is quite annoying.. PS I know I can write a script to do it for me, but this is not the solution I want. //edit router ip: 192.168.1.100 /etc/resolv.conf AFTER running dhclient eth0: "nameserver 192.168.1.100" what I would like the /etc/resolv.conf to look like: "nameserver 89.202.xxxx" (I don't have to provide the real ip do I? )

  I have just updated my Ubuntu linux to Ubuntu 10.4, not my grub menu isnt letting me boot to Windows Partition. The problem seems to be with grubs new update from using an editable menu.lst file to using a non editable grub.cfg file. Everywhere I look it states "DO NOT EDIT THE GRUB.CGF FILE". I am at a loss as what to do. I figured that the new configuration has screwed up the Windows Boot File. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. I am not sure if it is a windows issue or an issue with the Grub boot menu. Any help would be great. Thanks -Chris Flynn

• Dual WAN port on a WRT54GL

  Is it possible to reconfigure one of the LAN ports on a WRT54GL (running Tomato firmware) to act as a second WAN port? I have the following networks: PPOE connection to ADSL modem (works fine on the normal WAN port) WiFi neighbourhood network (in 178.X.X.X range), via a Mikrotik routerboard which I'd like to put on the WAN side of the router. I'd then like to set up routing so than some traffic (172.X.X.X) is routed to the Mikrotik and the rest to the ADSL modem. p.s. for practical reasons, I can't use the Mikrotik as the firewall/router. Edit: It seems this can be done by editing iptables, can someone tell me exactly how?

  I have a windows server 2003 computer that is accessed by remote desktop connection. To access the server all you need to know is the IP address of the computer. I want to limit the computers that can access the windows server computer to authorized computers only. The authorized computers won't have static IPs, so I cannot limit them on basis of IP address. Can I limit them on basis of MAC id perhaps? I won't mind using third party solution like Teamviewer or Logmein etc. So How can I solve this problem? EDIT: Found a possible solution in team viewer. Team viewer creates a unique partner ID for the computer it is installed on. It has an option for allowing only authorized partner IDs to access the computer. Problem solved.
