• Help Protect Your Children with the CEOP Enhanced Internet Explorer 8

  Do you want to make Internet Explorer safer and more helpful for you and family? Then join us as we look at the CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) enhanced version of Internet Explorer 8. Setting CEOP Up We chose to install the whole CEOP pack in order to have access to complete set of CEOP Tools. The install process will be comprised of two parts…it will begin with CEOP branded windows showing the components being installed… Note: The components can be downloaded separately for those who only want certain CEOP components added to their browser. Then it will move to the traditional Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 install windows. One thing that we did notice is that here you will be told that you will need to restart your computer but in other windows a log off/log on process is mentioned. Just to make certain that everything goes smoothly we recommend restarting your computer when the installation process is complete. In the EULA section you can see the versions of Windows that the CEOP Pack works with. Once you get past the traditional Microsoft install windows you will be dropped back into the CEOP branded windows. CEOP in Action After you have restarted your computer and opened Internet Explorer you will notice that your homepage has been changed. When it comes to your children that is not a bad thing in this instance. It will also give you an opportunity to look through the CEOP online resources. For the moment you may be wondering where everything is but do not worry. First you can find the two new search providers in the drop-down menu for your “Search Bar” and select a new default if desired. The second thing to look for are the new links that have been added to your “Favorites Menu”. These links can definitely be helpful for you and your family. The third part will require your “Favorites Bar” to be visible in order to see the “Click CEOP Button”. If you have not previously done so you will need to turn on subscribing for “Web Slices”. Click on “Yes” to finish the subscription process. Clicking on the “CEOP Button” again will show all kinds of new links to help provide information for you and your children. Notice that the top part is broken down into “topic categories” while the bottom part is set up for “age brackets”…very nice for helping you focus on the information that you want and/or need. Looking for information and help on a particular topic? Clicking on the “Cyberbullying Link” for example will open the following webpage with information about cyberbullying and a link to get help with the problem. Need something that is focused on your child’s age group? Clicking on the “8-10? Link” as an example opened this page. Want information that is focused on you? The “Parent? Link” leads to this page. The “topic categories & age brackets” make the CEOP Button a very helpful and “family friendly” addition to Internet Explorer. Perhaps you (or your child) want to conduct a search for something that is affecting your child. As you type in a “search term” both of the search providers will provide helpful suggestions for dealing with the problem. We felt that these were very nice suggestions in both instances here… Conclusion We have been able to give you a good peek at what the CEOP Tools can do but the best way to see how helpful it can be for you and your family is try it for yourself. Your children’s safety and happiness is worth it. • Super-Charge GIMP’s Image Editing Capabilities with G’MIC [Cross-Platform]

  Recently we showed you how to enhance GIMP’s image editing power and today we help you super-charge GIMP even more. G’MIC (GREYC’s Magic Image Converter) will add an impressive array of filters and effects to your GIMP installation for image editing goodness. Note: We applied the Contrast Swiss Mask filter to the image shown in the screenshot above to create a nice, warm sunset effect. To add the new PPA open the Ubuntu Software Center, go to the Edit Menu, and select Software Sources. Access the Other Software Tab in the Software Sources Window and add the first of the PPAs shown below (outlined in red). The second PPA will be automatically added to your system. Once you have the new PPAs set up, go back to the Ubuntu Software Center and do a search for “G’MIC”. You will find two listings available and can select either one to add G’MIC to your system (both work equally well). Click on More Info for the listing that you choose and scroll down to where Add-ons are listed. Make sure to select the Add-on listed, click Apply Changes when it appears, and then click Install. We have both shown here for your convenience… When you get ready to use G’MIC to enhance an image, go to the Filters Menu and select G’MIC. A new window will appear where you can select from an impressive array of filters available for your use. Have fun! • Software location after installing via Ubuntu Software Center

  Let me tell you my problem: I just move from Windows 7 to Ubuntu and I'm trying to setup my programming environment. I installed Eclipse via Ubuntu Software Center, then opened it and installed additional plugins. Problem came up when I tried to install Subclipse: according to the official guide, I installed JavaHL, but that damned library wasn't automatically linked by Eclipse, so I was told to "Note that JavaHL does not install in a location that is on Eclipse's default path, so eclipse must be launched with -vmargs -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni". Yes I know I have to modify eclipse.ini and add that vmargs line, but where is eclipse.ini??? I opened /usr/bin, the eclipse.exe is there but I can't found the rest. I really don't want to remove this Eclipse and download another from Eclipse download page, because I will have to reinstall every plugins again. Please can anyone tell me how to find the directory which contains software which installed via USC? Any help will be appreciated.

• September 2012 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit

  I’m excited to announce the September 2012 release of the Ajax Control Toolkit! This is the first release of the Ajax Control Toolkit which supports the .NET 4.5 framework. We also continue to support ASP.NET 3.5 and ASP.NET 4.0. With this release, we’ve made several important bug fixes. The Superexpert team focused on fixing the highest voted issues associated with the CascadingDropDown control. I’ve created a list of these bug fixes later in this blog post. You can download the latest release of the Ajax Control Toolkit by visiting the following page at CodePlex: http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com Alternatively, you can install the latest version of the Ajax Control Toolkit using NuGet by firing off the following command from the Package Manager Console: Install-Package AjaxControlToolkit Using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5 Let me walk through the steps for using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5. First, I’ll create a new ASP.NET 4.5 website with Visual Studio 2012. I’ll create the new website with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template: When you create a new ASP.NET 4.5 site with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template, you get a starter website. If you run the site, then you get a page with default content: Let me show you how you can add the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control to the homepage of this starter site. The first step is to use NuGet to install the Ajax Control Toolkit. Right-click the References folder in the Solution Explorer window and select the menu option Manage NuGet Packages. In the Manage NuGet Packages dialog, use the search box to search for the Ajax Control Toolkit (enter “AjaxControlToolkit”). After you find it, click the Install button to add the Ajax Control Toolkit to your project. That’s all you have to do to install the Ajax Control Toolkit! Now we are ready to start using the Ajax Control Toolkit controls. Open the default.aspx page so we can modify the contents of the page. Erase everything contained in the Content control with the ID of BodyContent. After erasing the content, declare the following two controls: <asp:TextBox ID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender TargetControlID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> The first control is a standard ASP.NET TextBox control and the second control is an Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. You should get intellisense as you type out the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. If you don’t, then close and re-open the Default.aspx page. Now, let’s run our app. Hit the F5 button or select Debug, Start Debugging from the Visual Studio menu. You will get the error message “MsAjaxBundle is not a valid script name”. Don’t despair! We need to update the Master Page so it uses the ToolkitScriptManager instead of the default ScriptManager. Open the Site.Master file and find where the ScriptManager is declared. You’ll get a page which contains a text field. When you click inside the text field, a popup calendar is displayed. Ajax Control Toolkit and jQuery You might have noticed that the ScriptManager includes a reference to jQuery by default. We did not remove that reference when we converted the ScriptManager to a ToolkitScriptManager. You can use the Ajax Control Toolkit and jQuery side-by-side. Here’s how you can modify the Default.aspx page so that it contains two popup calendars. The first popup calendar is created with the Ajax Control Toolkit and the second popup calendar is created with jQuery: <asp:TextBox ID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender TargetControlID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <input id="birthDate" /> <script> $("#birthDate").datepicker(); </script> Before you can start using jQuery UI plugins, you need to complete one more step. When you run your app, you get two popup calendars. When you click in the first text field, the Ajax Control Toolkit calendar appears. When you click in the second text field, the jQuery UI popup calendar appears: Bug Fixes in this Release We made several important bug fixes with this release of the Ajax Control Toolkit and integrated several Pull Requests contributed by the community. Our primary focus during this sprint was fixing issues with the CascadingDropDown control. We fixed the following issues associated with the CascadingDropDown: · 9490 – Don’t disable dropdowns in CascadingDropDown · 14223 – CascadingDropDown Reset or Setting SelectedValue from WebMethod · 12189 – CascadingDropDown not obeying disabled state of DropDownList · 22942 – CascadingDropDown infinite loop (with solution) · 8671 – CascadingDropdown options is null or undefined · 14407 – CascadingDropDown: populated client event happens too often · 17148 – CascadingDropDown – Add “UseHttpGet” property · 10221 – No NotNull check in CascadingDropDown · 12228 – Provide property for case-insensitive DefaultValue lookup in CascadingDropdown We also fixed the following two issues which are not directly related to the CascadingDropDown control: · 27108 – CalendarExtender: Bug when selecting December shifts to January. · 27041 – Input controls with HTML5 types do not post back in Firefox, Chrome, Safari Finally, we integrated several Pull Requests submitted by the community (Thank you community!): · Added French localized resources for the AjaxFileUpload · Resolved an issue which prevented the AjaxFileUpload control from working with pages that require query string variables. · Extended the AjaxFileUploadEventArgs class to include the current file index in the queue and the total number of files in the queue. · Fixed an issue with TabContainer and TabPanel which caused the OnActiveTabChanged event to fire too often. Summary I’m happy to see the Ajax Control Toolkit move forward into the brave new world of ASP.NET 4.5! In this latest release, we focused on ensuring that the Ajax Control Toolkit works smoothly with ASP.NET 4.5 applications. We also fixed the highest voted bugs associated with the CascadingDropDown control and integrated several Pull Request submitted by the community. Of course that poster neatly forgets to mention exactly what and how gtkglarea solved their problem, and Google is mostly devoid of information on the problem. So I come here asking for help! I would like to install fsv, but it tells me gtk-config doesn't exist. How can I fix this problem in Ubuntu 10.10? Thanks!

• XEROX Phaser 3160N installation on UBUNTU 12.04 LTE machine

  I have recently had windows XP die on one of my machines, and have installed Linux UBUNTU. The OS works great, except for installing the Xerox Phaser 3160N printer. The OS can find and install the network printer, but when I print a test page, it tells me “Internal Error – Please use the correct driver”. I have the correct drivers, as your support team have sent me the link, (http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-3160/file-download/enau.html?operatingSystem=linux&fileLanguage=en_GB&contentId=105724&from=downloads&viewArchived=false) but I cannot install these drivers to run the printer. These are the instructions from the online guide for installing on a Linux machine: 1. Make sure that the machine is connected to your network and powered on. Also, your machine’s IP address should have been set. 2. Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROM drive. 3. Double-click CD-ROM icon that appears on your Linux desktop. 4. Double-click the Linux folder. 5. Double-click the install.sh icon. 6. The Xerox Installer window opens. Click Continue. 7. The Add printer wizard window opens. Click Next. 8. Select Network printer and click Search button. 9. The Printer’s IP address and model name appears on list field. 10. Select your machine and click Next. I get as far as step 5, and step 6 never happens, if it did, it would be very easy from there. There are options to add additional software to UBUNTU, however it does not recognise the installation CD as valid when I try to add it as a source. My Win 7 drive is originally 60 GB but after installing Ubuntu it appears as if it were 43 GB. Now I want to UNINSTALL Ubuntu and get just Win 7 back on. Please guide me how to do this. • Issues installing synapse launcher

  I am trying to install synapse launcher on my desktop . I am using these two commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install synapse However I am getting an error with the second command saying E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I presume this has something to do with my connection to the hosting servers. But what I don't understand is the fact that synaptic is working it just seems to be something about that ppa. I don't know what I am doing wrong as the commands are widely suggested around the web, But they don't seem to work for me! • How do I get the Apple Wireless Keyboard Working in 10.10?

  So I've gone and bought a Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless Non-Numeric Keyboard. The magic mouse worked out-of-the-box almost perfectly, except for the forward/back gesture which still isn't functioning, whereas the keyboard didn't. It has constant trouble with the bluetooth connection. Only the 7, 8 and 9 buttons and volume media keys correspond correctly with the output. Pressing every single key on keyboard has this output: 789/=456*123-0.+ When I use Blueman the keyboard can be setup and shows up in "Devices" but I get a warning when I click "Setup"; "Device added successfully, but failed to connect" (although removing the keyboard and setting it up as a new device doesn't incur this error). Using gnome-bluetooth I have encountered no error messages but it connects properly less often than Blueman and I can still only type the aforementioned output. What am I not doing? Where is this going wrong? EDIT: I have read this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224673 inside out several times to no avail. It seems these commands don't work for me with the apple peripherals sudo hidd --search hcitool scan Fortunately I have the luxury of a 1TB hard drive, near limitless patience and no job. I have installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 64bit (albeit smaller than mine) and after updating and restarting for the first time, I set up my devices in exactly the same way as I have learnt on my original install I succeeded once again with the mouse and, to my joy, with the keyboard also. Though I could not seem to find Alt+F2 and had to reconfigure that and several other keyboard shortcuts, the keyboard is working and in a spectacular fashion. Still, this leaves me with the issue of my original install. I returned to it with some new found knowledge but failed again. Perhaps I have a missing dependancy? I did uninstall bluetooth after the initial set up and reinstalled it recently for the pupose of these peripherals. Maybe it's because I'm running 64bit? This is still not solved, but easily avoided by not changing too much from the original install. Just hide stuff or turn it off, don't uninstall too much.

  Because of licensing issues, Ubuntu is unable to play MP3s out of the box. We’ll show you how to play MP3s and other restricted file formats in about four mouse clicks. The philosophy behind Ubuntu is that software should be free and accessible to all. Whether MP3 and other file formats are free is unclear in many countries, so Ubuntu does not include software to read these file formats by default. Fortunately, it does include a package that installs the most commonly used file formats all at once, including a Flash plugin for Firefox. Note: These instructions are for Ubuntu 10.04. There are small differences for earlier versions of Ubuntu. Play MP3 Files Open the Ubuntu Software Center, found in the Applications menu.   Click on View and ensure that All Software is selected. Type “restricted extras” into the search box at the top-right. Find the Ubuntu restricted extras package and click Install. Enter your password when prompted. Once the install is complete, close out of Ubuntu Software Center, and you’ll be able to play MP3 files! To confirm this, we’ll open up Rhythmbox, found in the Sound & Video section of the Applications menu. Our test MP3 plays with no problems! Note: If Rhythmbox tells you that MP3 plugins are not installed, close Rhythmbox and reopen it. You should not have to install anything extra through Rhythmbox.   Despite this extra step, playing the most common audio and video file formats – including Flash videos on the internet – is simple. • Installing gnome shell extensions from extensions.gnome.org fails silently

  On a fresh Ubuntu install (12.04, 64-bit), after installing gnome-shell, I've tried to install some extensions from extensions.gnome.org but got no result. I've tried with Firefox and Chromium and got the same issue. Open any extension page on extensions.gnome.org. Switch extension to "ON". Agree with confirmation about installation. Nothing happens and nothing has been installed (.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions is empty). I've checked .xsession-errors, Firefox's javascript console, gnome-shell console errors (Alt-F2 + looking glass). There isn't any trace of any error.

• Ubuntu 12.04.1 completely freezing very often [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What should I do when Ubuntu freezes? I am running ubuntu 12.04.1 on an asus zenbook prime (UX31A), and I am having a problem where the entire OS freezes at random times. It doesn't seem to happen in response to any certain event, it will even sometimes happen while just moving the mouse, not even clicking on anything. The entire system will freeze, mouse and keyboard do not work, and any music/video will freeze and audio will loop. I can do nothing but hold the power button to reboot the computer. I've had this problem for a while, and just yesterday gotten around to backing up everything and doing a fresh install. Lo and behold, I get a freeze within 20 minutes of a fresh install. I've googled this a lot, and cannot find anything that resembles it exactly (some people have everything but mouse/keyboard freeze, some people only have the mouse/keyboard freeze).

I'm running Kubuntu 11.10, so I did: sudo aptitude install apache2 mysql-server php5 php5-mysql php5-cli And I also fetched the latest mediawiki to: /home/boris/Its/sites/mediawiki-1.17.0 Now I'm supposed to open http://localhost/home/boris/Its/sites/mediawiki-1.17.0/index.php But firefox says the page is not found. While http://localhost works. If I get it right - I have to open index.php to install mediawiki. So my question is - what do I do wrong? I'm really sorry for this is might be a very simple question. By the way do I have to make a db beforehand? Is it possible to use mongoDB as a db with mediawiki?

• How to use Xvfb in Ubuntu 14.04 with/without RandR?

  I try to run Unit-Tests with Selenium running Firefox on my Ubuntu 14.04 Server. And I'm using Xvfb as described in this blog to simulate a virtual display to show Firefox in. But Xvfg somehow doesn't load/work with RandR. Because whenever I try this: sudo Xvfb :10 -ac & export DISPLAY=:10 firefox I get an Xlib: extension "RandR" missing on display ":10"-Error. I've also tried sudo Xvfb :10 -ac +extension RANDR, sudo Xvfb :10 -ac -extension RANDR and beacuse it supplies with "xrandr" also apt-get install x11-xserver-utils. And my setup is a plain empty Ubuntu 14.04 Server with apt-get install xvfb firefox. Can anyone please help me run Xvfb with or without RandR?

I have changed some files, such as wireless.22.h, ifrename.c and iwlib.h, in wireless_tools.29/ which is located in Android4.0 root directory. The correct version is: Java SE 1.6. Then I did as How can I uninstall my current java and install sun java 1.6 The java was installed successfully, but when i tried mm again: Your version is: java version "1.6.0_27". The correct version is: Java SE 1.6. Then I tried https://source.android.com/source/initializing.html , but it didn't work. How can I install "java SE 1.6." correctly?

• Bundled Software Installers

  I have two unrelated Windows programs that come with their own setup.exe files. Using a third-party tool, how do I bundle the two in a single installer? The setup wizard functionality would work like this: They run my setup.exe. It's primary goal is to install Windows program A. On page 2 of the installer, it has a checkbox to install Windows program B. When they click Next on page 2, my installer window vanishes and Windows program A's installer runs. When that installer finishes, my installer detects this. If Windows program B was selected to also be installed, its installer runs next, and again with my installer window not shown. When step 4 is done, my installer detects one or both installs are finished and shows a Finish page from my installer. The user clicks that and my installer closes because it has concluded its purpose.

• dpkg stuck downloading font files

  I have been reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04. The install from USB works fine, and I could update everything OK, but when I got to re-installing my application software I hit a snag. One of the packages I tried to re-install was ttf-mscorefonts-installer. dpkg stalled during this setup, downloading a font file (it had tried to download it all night). I stopped dpkg, and attempted to re-start downloading something else, but it would not let me. The commands I typed are as follows: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock This unlocks dpkg, but if I try to do something I get the following message (eg): bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get install synaptic E: dpgk was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem So, I did just that: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a whereupon it started the previously failed download all over again. That leaves two questions: 1) How could I have broken the loop without actually crashing out of dpkg? 2) How can I set up the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package in the future? Is this download really broken, or is it 'just' a bad Internet connection?
