• Replicating iPhone Calendar View Lame?

  I am building an iPhone app that will need to display info primarily in a calendar view. Users will need to be able to search for entries and view them by day, month or in a list view. It seems like the built-in calendar type interface is ideal for my app. So I could build a similar calendar with 3 buttons at the bottom for list/day/month view as well as a button for today, in short a very similar interface to the built in iPhone calendar with different colors primarily. However, if I replicate it am I a) a lame copycat for replicating the built-in interface or smart for using a well-known iPhone metaphor and b) in danger of having my app rejected?

  I'm hoping to use google maps on my site. My addresses are stored in a db. I’m pulling up a page where the information is all dynamic. For example: mysite.com/site/business/5 (where 5 is the id of the business). Let’s say I do a query like this: function addressForMap($id) { $this->db->select(‘b.id, b.busaddress, b.buscity, b.buszip’); $this->db->from(‘business as b’); $this->db->where(‘b.id, $id); } How can I output the info to the google maps api correctly so that it display’s the map appropriately? • Assigning a material in Blender with a script

  Question: How do you assign a material with a script to an object in blender? Info: I have this script to import a proprietary model type of mine that is basically a star map with object consisting of a single vertex. in order to make them look like stars and be visible they are all going to have a halo material assigned to them. I'm figuring out how to make this material and give it the values just fine, but I can't seem to get it to assign. I tried the most obvious thing which was: objectName.setMaterial(materialName) but that did nothing. and when i would take an object that had a material and call the getMaterial function on it, it would return nothing. there is something I'm missing here, can some one shed some light on it?   Our company uses Quickbooks Online to track our books. When our application bills a customer, it would be nice to have that information recorded automatically in QB rather than logging in to QB Online to fill in the info. Is there a way to accomplish this using Quickbook's APIs? The Intuit developer information is very confusing; it is mainly oriented towards extending the desktop version of Quickbooks or developing apps to publish in Intuit's app store. Have you successfully created a web or other service-side app that was able to pull data to or from QB Online?

• Bypassing Windows Copy design

  I have been trying to figure out a way to streamline copying files from one drive (network or external in my case) to my main system drives. Short of creating a program that I will have to activate each time then choosing all the info in it, I have no really good design to bypass it. I have been wondering if there was a way to intercept a straight-forward windows copy with a program to do it my way. The basic design would be that upon grabbing the copy (actually for this to be efficient, a group of different copies), the program would organize all the separate copies into a single stream of copies. I've been wanting to do this as recently I have been needing to make backups of a lot of data and move it a lot as all my drives seem to be failing the past few months.

  I am enjoying the fact that I'm here building a private message inbox for my website after building a full user signup/login and activation system when a few months ago I thought I wouldn't have enough patience to learn this stuff. Anyway to my question. I am currently building the private message inbox for my users and wondering if there are any jquery/javascript stuff I can use to make my inbox more like the gmail inbox. E.G. Gmail allows you to select all read messages or unread or starred or unstarred or none of the messages using a checkbox. I would like to add this kind of feature to my website and I'm sure the easiest way to achieve this would be using a jquery/javascript script. I would appreciate if someone could provide some links or info to where I can find several of these types of scripts to use with my inbox page. Thanks EDIT: Would also like to note that I would like the checkbox to be in a dropdown just like gmails.

• Jetty with a custom JUL logger

  I feel this should be easier, or I am missing something obvious. I am trying to use our custom JUL logging library with Jetty. No matter where I put the JAR file for the custom logger, it is not found. • View plain text files with different background colors in Mac OSX, for different programming languag

  Hi, I work with Mac OS X Leopard. I usually have 5 or 10 text files opened at the same time with different programming languages; one for a bash script, another for a python one, etc. When I use exposé all of them look the same, so it is difficult to select them. I wonder how could I work with just plain text files in OSX, so when they are opened in an editor the background color changes or some other thign, so when using exposé it is clear to me which window belongs to what language. I thought about inserting some kind of info to the last line of each document, and then creat some applescript that converts it to RTF or someother text document which includes color in bacjground, so then it is opened with textmate or someother app. Do you know a better approach for this? I have added a function which I use to get the authors of these articles using only one query (it is described here) But I don't know what to do with the favorites (I'd like to know which of the displayed articles have been favorited by me using less than 10 queries (I want to display 10 articles)). Is it possible?

  I am building a site that runs an automated process every 30 minutes to match up new flights with their respective user. Once this process is completed I want to email the flight details out to the respective user. However the flight info will be different for every single user with their being 0-300+ potential emails. • Direct web URL to PayPal transaction

  Having implemented PayPal's Website Payments Standard, I'd like to link to the details view of a transaction from my site's back end - just a simple direct web URL to the PayPal side. I don't know why this is tricky but when I try to get it from being logged in to the PayPal system it seems very obfuscated, in this form: history.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_history-details&info=[looks like some kind of GUID]&ptype=4&history_cache=[huge encoded string] I'm guessing it's by design but it's not very helpful if you want a quick way to jump to a transaction's details. I've tried the https://www.paypal.com/vst/id=1234 form (also with co.uk as I am UK-based) recommended on a few sites I saw in my search, but I am told that: The transaction ID in your link is invalid. This happens even when copying the transaction ID directly from PayPal's back-end order listing. Is there a reliable way to directly link to an order / transaction details page in PayPal?

• Finding the best jquery plugins

  Is there a resource for finding the "best" jquery plugins, or at least just the most used ones? For example, I wanted to find a menu jquery plugin but when I goto the jquery website there are so many to look through and I don't see a way to see how popular each one is. For ruby there's the http://ruby-toolbox.com/ which lists many plugins, how popular they are, info about them, etc. Is there something similar or at least some way to filter through all the jquery plugins? EDIT 1: To shed some more light on this - the "most popular" link on the jquery page is useless. I can't find a way to search through it but even worse, the ratings don't seem to mean much. Ex - the first item, in other words the most popular plugin in that list has 5 stars and TWO votes. Doesn't seem like a very reliable resource to me.

• Can I get a faster output pipe than /dev/null ?

  Hi I am running a huge task [automated translation scripted with perl + database etc.] to run for about 2 weeks non-stop. While thinking how to speed it up I saw that the translator outputs everything (all translated sentences, all info on the way) to STDOUT all the time. This makes it work visibly slower when I get the output on the console. I obviously piped the output to /dev/null, but then I thought "could there be something even faster?" It's so much output that it'd really make a difference. And that's the question I'm asking You, because as far as I know there is nothing faster... (But I'm far from being a guru having used linux on a daily basis only last 3 years)

  We've been using Seagate Info Desktop 7.5 for a while and it stopped working after 31 Dec 2010. After a lot searching on the web, we found out from the SAP threads that a particular dll file(ciweb.dll) had this line of code "expires= Friday,31-Dec-2010 00:00:00 GMT",and this was causing the problem. The solution to the problem was to hexedit this dll file by changing the date to a later date. I have got no experience in hex editing a file. Would some please advise me with steps to do it?   Hi, which structure returns faster result and/or less taxing on the host server, flat file or database (mysql)? Assume many users (100 users) are simultaneously query the file/db. Searches involve pattern matching against a static file/db. File has 50,000 unique lines (same data type). There could be many matches. There is no writing to the file/db, just read. Is it possible to have a duplicate the file/db and write a logic switch to use the backup file/db if the main file is in use? Which language is best for the type of structure? Perl for flat and PHP for db? Addition info: If I want to find all the cities have the pattern "cis" in their names. Which is better/faster, using regex or string functions? Please recommend a strategy TIA

• Event handling to detect if user clicks a 'Like' button in XFBML page

  I have a Facebook connect app / canvas IFrame app which has a Like control for a fanpage. I'd like to detect when the user clicks the Like button to be able to display additional info (a discount coupon code). I'm using the latest Javascript API but the events that can be handled doesn't seem to include detection of social widget controls. The documentation for the Like Plugin doesn't show any events. However I know its definitely possible because if I have two Like buttons on a page they both instantly update each other if I like or unlike whatever it is.

• MS SQL Server 2008 Stored Procedure Result as Column Default Value

  First of all, thank you guys. You always know how to direct me when I cant even find the words to explain what the heck im trying to do. The default values of the columns on a couple of my tables need to equal the result of some complicated calculations on other columns in other tables. My first thought is to simply have the column default value equal the result of a stored procedure. I would also have one or more of the parameters pulled from the columns in the calling table. I don't know the syntax of how to do it though, and any time the word "stored" and "procedure" land next to each other in google I'm flooded with info on Parameter default values and nothing relating to what I actually want. Half of that was more of a vent than a question...any ideas though? And plz plz dont say "Well, you could use an On-Insert Trigger to..."

But hibernate is logging all its info in console. Can someone pls let me know a way to stop this? I tried in eclipse and from executable jar file, still the hibernate is keep logging in console. I'm creating the key with this (emitted from mysql workbench 5.2): ALTER TABLE `db`.`appointment` ADD CONSTRAINT `FK_appointment_CancellationID` FOREIGN KEY (`CancellationID` ) REFERENCES `db`.`appointment_cancellation` (`ID` ) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION , ADD INDEX `FK_appointment_CancellationID` (`CancellationID` ASC) ; at which point I get the error: ERROR 1452: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (alarmtekcore., CONSTRAINT FK_lead_appointment_CancellationID FOREIGN KEY (CancellationID) REFERENCES lead_appointment_cancellation (`) I've checked here but there's no data in the table.

• How to output an array's content in columns in BASH.

  I wanted to display a long list of strings from an array. Right now, my script run through a for loop echoing each value to the standard output: for value in ${values[@]} do echo $value done Yeah, that's pretty ugly! And the one column listing is pretty long too... I was wondering if i can find a command or builtin helping me to display all those values in columns, like the ls command does by default when listing a directory (ls -C). [Update] Losing my brain with column not displaying properly formatted columns, here's more info: The values: $ values=( 01----7 02----7 03-----8 04----7 05-----8 06-----8 07-----8 08-----8 09---6 10----7 11----7 12----7 13----7 14-----8 15-----8 16----7 17----7 18---6 19-----8 20-----8 21-----8) (Notice the first two digits as an index and the last one indicating the string length for readability) The command: echo " ${values[@]/%/$'\n'}" | column The result: Something is going wrong...
