  • Does a rollback still occur if I use begin...rescue and an error occurs?

    I've got some strange errors happening in my rails app and I'm trying to log better errors instead of the whole stack of passenger stuff that I don't care about. I thought I would do this with a Rescue clause and explicit error handling, like logging the params hash. But I'm concerned if this would interrupt any rollback that is happening. For that matter, I'm assuming rollbacks automatically occur when an error occurs as part of the normal rails error handling, but I haven't been able to find that documented anywhere. I'm using Dreamhost with MySQL, so I thought transactions and rollbacks were happening there.

  • Identifying elements from data feeds generated by affiliate sites

    I am working with data feeds from affiliate sites. The basic idea is to provide an interface where the user can paste a link to an XML datafeed (these are huge btw, around 60 mb) that would then be streamed, parsed into small chunks, and mined for the required data which would then be stored in the database. The problem is that different affiliate sites have different Schemas for their XML's. It is a little hard mapping the elements in an XML to your database attributes when you don't actually know which element contains what. My Solution: Use XPath to traverse through the first set of parent and it's descendent's, fetch the elements as well as the data and and ask the user to map this data to the attributes in the database by selecting from a set of radio buttons that represent the attributes from the database. This will be done just once for each new Feed, once the system know's what's what it will automatically upload the data from the XML to the database. Does this sound viable? Is there a better solution? I realize this leaves an uncomfortable opening for human error.. Thanks.

  • 501 Error during Libjingle PCP on Amazone EC2 running Openfire

    I am trying to implement Google's Libjingle (version: 0.6.14) PCP example and I am getting a 501: feature not implemented error during execution. Specifically, the error occurs after each "account" has connected, been authenticated and began communicating with the other. An abbreviated log of the interaction is provided at the end. I have set up my own jabber server (using OpenFire on an Amazon EC2 server), have opened all of the necessary ports and have added each "account" to the other's roster. The server has been set to allow for file transfers. My being new to working with servers, I am not sure why this error is occur and how to go about fixing it. Thanks in advance, AeroBuffalo P.S.   • .htaccess not working (mod_rewrite)

    Edit: I am pretty sure my .htaccess file is NOT being executed, and the problem is NOT with my rewrite rules. I have not having any luck getting my .htaccess with mod_rewrite working. Basically all I am trying to do is remove 'www' from "http://www.site.com" and "https://www.site.com". If there is anything I am missing (conf files, etc let me know I willl update this) I jsut can't see whats wrong here... I am using a 1&1 VPS III Virtual private server... anyone ever have this issue? I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Server LTS.   • Cannot connect to mysql via servlet

    Hi all I have been since 2 days trying to figure out why my servlet does not connect to the database MySql. I have mysql installed and working properly and eclipse.     Hi All, Quick question - I run two linux boxes, one my own desktop and the other my VPS. For security reasons on the VPS end I opted for socket connections to MySQL (/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock). I know I can tunnel like this: ssh -L 3307:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] if I set up the remote sql server to listen on some port, but what I want to know is can I do something like: ssh -L /path/to/myremotesqlserver.sock:/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock thereby tunnelling two sockets, as opposed to two ports? A perfectly acceptable solution would also be to forward a local port to the remote socket file, but where possible I'm trying not to have tcp servers running on the remote box.     We are moving a production site to EC2/RDS Followed these instructions: http://geehwan.posterous.com/moving-a-production-mysql-database-to-amazon I have set up row-based binary logging on the production server did a: mysqldump --single-transaction --master-data=2 -C -q -u root -p backup.sql then imported to RDS instance. No dramas. Due to the size of the db, and minimal downtime requirements, I've got to update the ec2 db to the latest datas via the binlogs, and it won't let me. mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000004 --start-position=360812488 | mysql -uroot -p -h and it says: ERROR 1227 (42000) at line 6: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation My guess, based on what is on line 6 of the binlog, is that it's the 'write to the BINLOG' statements in the SQL backup, and because RDS doesn't support this, it can't run these statements, or something, I don't really know. Please help.

  • Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. On win 7

    I have had to reinstall MySQL, however the service is failing to start with the above cause listed in evnt viewer. One solution is apparently to delete a couple of files prefixed with 'ib_logfile' which represent any old databases. However I do not have these files, and my service is still failing to start ... ? When I say I don't have these files I did a search using the windows search with zero results, and they are definitely not present in my mysql install directory. And I don't have the "documents and setting/appilcation data' folder referenced in link. In fact I only have only one mysql install directory, I know where that is - what do I need to delete/change ? The instance is configured OK, I ran that as administrator and it is listed in services, but the service itself fails to start Any tips, other than going over to postgresql ?

    I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value.   • Apache Errordocument (custom 503 page) works intermittently

    We have Apache 2.2 running on Windows 2k3 and 2k8 R2 as a reverse proxy to downstream applications. Some of these applications may go offline during off-peak hours so we've implemented a custom 503 page like so: ErrorDocument 503 /error/serverTimeout.html ErrorDocument 504 /error/serverTimeout.html (the error directory is in Apaches's htdocs folder) If I make these changes, restart apache and then access the down application on firefox I see the custom page as expected. I then access it using my IE browser, it also works. If I close my IE browser and access it again, I get Apache's standard "Service Temporarily Unavailable" message instead of my custom page. Once I receive the standard error message, I never get the custom page again until I restart Apache. I've put the server on debug and I can't see any difference between the requests which return the custom error page and the requests which return the standard error message. Is there some weird proxy setting which is messing with the errordocument configuration? Any ideas?

    I'm planning on launching a web application soon, and have decided on using Rackspace's Cloud offering with Debian. I'm not expecting that much traffic to start, but would rather get the architecture correct now even with the small VPSs. The thing I'm not quite sure about is how many VPSs I should get. At a minimum, I know I'll want three VPSs: Two Apache webservers One server for MySQL I'd also like: Nginx load balancer MySQL replication memcached I'm not sure where those last three processes should be running. Can the load balancer run on the same machine as the MySQL slave, or should they each run on their own machine? Does memcached run alongside the webservers or on different machines?

  • Hebrew (utf8) characters in windows cmd console

    I previously asked this Q: utf8 hebrew on mysql console on debian (via putty on windows) And managed to get it working by starting mysql with --default-character-set=utf8 and setting putty to show utf8 as well. Now I need to do the same but on a windows server. The data is again the same but when I start mysql with --default-character-set=utf8 it I see multuple characters where I am supposed to see hebrew. I think the problem is with the set up of windows cmd console that it does not properly display utf8. any ideas ?

Also I reinstalled K-lite codec to newest, but still getting this error. I get the same error when I turn my Canon video camera to laptop using firewire cable.
