I'm looking for a skype compatible phone I can use to contact my sister when shes logged on sype on her laptop. If possible it should have video conferencing. So a small screen I can she her pretty face on lol.
Is it possible to use Windows remote desktop connection to connect to a Windows XP machine with a user already logged in and just view that users screen without logging them off?
I just inherited this a single linux box running pop/smtp for a small office (25 users). I'm new to Linux. I think the box is running Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 as the server (this is bannered accross the screen occassionally) but not sure of the release/kernal/build etc. I need to be certain of both the server os and email linux versions in order to perform research, admin and support. Any help/pointers on how to do this is much appreciated.
I recently started using Vim with NERDTree. The annoying thing is when I close the buffer, NERDTree expands to fill the rest of the screen, and I have to open another file and reopen NERDTree to get it back to the old layout.
Is there a way to "lock" NERDTree in place? Ideally, closing a buffer would replace it with another buffer that's hidden, or open a new blank buffer if no other buffers are open.
Thanks!
Hi!
I have this annoying problem that Windows 7 won't reconnect to my network drives on startup. The shares are on an Ubuntu machine.
I've tried every possible solution I've found:
Enable password on logon to give the network interface time to boot up
Check Connect using different credentials
Tried both options in this screen
Sorry for the long post. Can You please help me to solve this?
I'm looking to buy a screensaver control product with granular control. I have about 2000 workstations which require dozens of different timeout values, lock/not locked on resume settings, different screen saver files (that can be frequently updated depending on department), etc. It's looking to be quite an undertaking accomplishing this with domain group policies so I'm hoping you guys have some suggestions of products to use. Hopefully such products would integrate with AD.
Thanks
Im running ubuntu. I just tried to play supertux but my LCD didnt support the resolution and all i got was a blank screen and music playing. I tried to close it and go back to the desktop by pressing ctrl + z but that didnt work so i had to hard reset my computer!
In future what should i press when this happens?
I'm losing a lot of precious vertical screen real estate to the fat border at the top of each window. is there anything I can do to make it go away or get it down to 2 pixels?
I am installing Visual Studio 2010 on a vista 64 bits machine.
During the install it asked for a restart.
Since that, vista won't load. I tried restore to previous good configuration - didn't help.
I am only able to boot it using safe mode with networking. When I did that, it continued the vista part of the install (the screen with the 3 out of 3 updates) but after that when I restarted again - still fails.
I'm getting tired of waking up to my computer being turned on, and event log shows that it's waking up everyday at 3:40am and most times won't go back to sleep after the determined 30 minutes (maybe from being in the lock screen?).
There are no devices armed for wake, activation timers are disabled and all wake options disabled in the BIOS and energy star 4.0c is enabled (was disabled before but no difference).
Are there any specific known steps which I could take to make my computer with Windows XP Professional booting faster?
I am interested in speeding up following stages in particular:
loading the OS (Windows logo, up to the moment login screen appears)
log in user (from the moment you type your user name and password up to the moment all memory resident programs and services are loaded and the computer is really ready to use)
When I'm away from my computer (Windows XP) for more than ~30 minutes, I get locked out, and have to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to login. I've checked the screensaver settings, and it's not set to lock the screen.
Does anyone know what else could be causing this?
Thanks
My HP d330 does not properly shutdown, after Vista "shutting down" message the lcd screen goes black, but both HD + Power Leds remain on.. Any ideas?
No entries in EventViewer about this.
Keyboard leds no more work after this partial shutdown so I assume hardware is partially shutdown..?
Same problem occurs when I choose Sleep from shutdown menu

For some reason the recovery partition of windows is appearing while it is hidden. With hidden I mean hidden in Disk management and Diskpart. This partition causes the screen to flicker sometimes, as it is continuously switching between being visible and hidden. Sometimes however, it is just visible.
In the attached screenshots you can see the configuration.
Translation: partitie=partition, In orde = OK, Verborgen = hidden, Lokale schijf = local disk, Herstelpartitie = recovery partition
Is there a way to fake a dual monitor for testing.
I have only one monitor and i have to make an application that is suitable for two monitors.
The second monitor screen should appear as a window on my primairy monitor.
I am receiving lots of Failure Audit logs on my DC, can you guide me - how should i identify the culprit.
Please see the below print-screen for more detail. The logon type is 3, that means it is a network logon. I have identify the Workstation from the log, but how should i prove who or which process is sending broadcast with logon authentication to my DC. The Anti-virus is also updated.
Note:- The Workstation is in Workgroup.
I uninstalled MySQL 5.1 from Vista as I lost the username/password, however I forgot to stop the MySQL service before doing so. Now whenever I try to reinstall it I get to the final configuration screen which then fails with the message "Cannot create Windows Service for MySQL Error:0".
I've uninstalled MySQL and removed all related files/folders/registry entries but still no joy...
Does anyone know a way to resolve this as I can't seem to find a fix online anywhere!
How do I disable automatic hyphen correction in OS X 10.7?
When using the spell checker in Apple Mail it is always prompting to correct my hyphens to another one which is essentially similar but microns longer on the screen for some reason.
It's annoying as I often use hyphens and really need spell check too. Thoughts?
I looked in all the usual System Preferences places but can't find anything.
I have gone ahead and selected the Windows Classic theme in WIN7's "Window Color and Appearance" to turn off Aero.
I'm looking to replicate the "windows XP style" theme due to some screen recognition software that was built on an XP machine.
Is it possible to edit/import the "windows XP style" theme file and use it in WIN7?
I am mostly looking to get the colors/fonts similar. Windows/buttons would be good too.
What options are available for running Windows 7 as an appliance and is there an official Microsoft program to get involved in?
I would like to run the computer as a box that boots, displays no bios or boot information, then moves immediately to run one program full-screen without allowing the user to interact. It seems like there should be some base configurations that allow this or a special version of Windows that is configured to minimize extraneous display and control.
When graphics drivers crash in XP, but don't cause a blue screen, windows starts a fallback driver (I think it's 640x480 in 4-bit color). When that happens, is there any way to cause the original drivers to reload without having to restart the system?
(I know Win7 does it for me automatically)
I've been trying to follow Scott Hanselman's post on installing the Win8 RP on a vhd, using the win8 .iso on a dvd, but the install wont start.
I get a black screen with the Windows text for a minute or two and then a :( with some text about setup experiencing an error flashes up and my laptop restarts.

Has anyone got any clues what might be going wrong, or how I can diagnose this? If I kick off the installer from within windows7 it runs OK. But I don't want to overwrite my win7 install
