    I am using tsocks on my Ubuntu machine and I have it all set up so that if I run wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' in my normal shell I get my real IP address, and if I run tsocks wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' I get another IP address like I should. My question is how do I make the tsocks command return with a different 'different address'; in other words establish a new identity.

    I've been reading this ICANN agreement on new TLDs and it has this section on DNS service availability, which i don't completely understand: Refers to the ability of the group of listed-as-authoritative name servers of a particular domain name (e.g., a TLD), to answer DNS queries from DNS probes. For the service to be considered available at a particular moment, at least, two of the delegated name servers registered in the DNS must have successful results from “DNS tests” to each of their public-DNS registered “IP addresses” to which the name server resolves. If 51% or more of the DNS testing probes see the service as unavailable during a given time, the DNS service will be considered unavailable. I'm not 100% sure of the part in bold: does "public" refer to the DNS or to the IP addesses? It looks like there's a mistake and that the hyphen should have been after "DNS". So basically does it mean "the public IP addresses registered in the DNS"?

I have several questions: Does it matter if I host all my sites on 100.100.100.100 (the server's IP for example) or if I split them into 100.100.100.100, 100.100.100.101 ... 100.100.100.104 (that is, each site on its own IP). Does it matter if I use a C-Class for each website? Do search engines really care if your site has its own c-class? Do search engines penalize a website if it moves its IP? Thanks, Joel

    This seems similar: EXT4 "No space left on device (28)" incorrect but there is no explanation I created an ext4 filesystem on a RAID 1 array with: mke2fs -t ext4 -T small /dev/md0 Copying a single directory with many tiny files I get: cp: cannot create regular file `/mnt/raid1_new/pics/pic3412.jpg': No space left on device space used 5% inodes used 1% I manually tried: cp /source/test1.jpg /mnt/raid1_new/pics/test1.jpg --- error cp /source/test1.jpg /mnt/raid1_new/pics/test2.jpg --- ERROR cp /source/test1.jpg /mnt/raid1_new/pics/test3.jpg --- no error Notes: RAID 1 disks are error free. I tried mv instead of cp and got the same thing. I tried omitting -T small with no effect Can somebody help me understand this magic?

  • Program complains not enough disk space even if the disk space exists

    I have an EXT3 partition mounted in ordered data mode. If a power failure occurs when a program is creating files on that partition, I see that space usage reported is normal and I don't see any partial written files. But when I try to run the same program again after the system comes back up it complains that there is not enough disk space. Even though the free space reported is far more than required. The program always succeeds in normal conditions. Also the problem seems to disappear when the partition is remounted. I was wondering what could be the right way to handle the situation other than unmounting and remounting.

    I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 (dual-boot) on my laptop.For some reasons I want some more space in my Ubuntu partition.I have installed gParted in Ubuntu.Now is it recommended to get this required extra space from Windows 7 drive (*where my linux is installed *) directly using gParted? Will it cause damage to my boot loader or my data on the partition from where I wish to grab some space? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I purchased a new Mac mini server, since my old iMac, which was a server pretty much died. My problem is this. How do I change my internal IP address for my mac mini server to a static address, like 192.168.0.2? Before you guys harp on me, my old server was running Ubuntu Hardy and I only had to map the IP address in the router, which would automatically assign the reserved address through DHCP. Now, I know things are different between the two, but my problem is that the mac is not accepting the assigned IP address or the router just is not assigning. However, every time I have manually changed it on the Mac to an address of my choice, it takes the computer off the Internet. My router is a NetGear WTG624 v2, I believe. I need this to work, so I can utilize Dynamic DNS.

What I have is two possible address formats. 28 Main St Somecity, NY 12345-6789 or Main St Somecity, Ny 12345-6789 What I need to do Is split both strings down into an array structured as such address[0] = HousNumber address[1] = Street address[2] = City address[3] = State address[4] = ZipCode My major problem is how to account for the lack of a house number. with out having the whole array shift the data up one. address[0] = Street address[1] = City address[2] = State address[3] = ZipCode [Edit] For those that are wondering this is what i am doing atm .     With IP options we can specify the route we want an IP packet to take while connecting to a server. If we know that a particular server provides some extra functionality based on the IP address can we not utilize this by spoofing an IP packet so that the source IP address is the privileged IP address and one of the hosts on the Source Routing is our own. So if the privileged IP address is x1 and server IP address is x2 and my own IP address is x3. I send a packet from x1 to x2 which is supposed to pass through x3. x1 does not actually send the packet. It is just that x2 thinks the packet came from x1 via x3. Now in response if x2 uses the same routing policy (as a matter of courtesy to x1) then all packets would be received by x3. Will the destination typically use the same IP address sequences as specified in the routing header so that packets coming from the server pass through my IP where I can get the required information? Can we not spoof a TCP connection in the above case? Is this attack used in practice?

I have a custom LDAP server, which I can customize to generate whichever object class and attributes I need. I'm trying to display people from that server in the Mac OS X address book. Names and organizations display correctly, as well as work-related phone and address. However, I've never been able to have a home address displayed in the address book.     I am often running low on space on the system and home partition. I would like to see a list of installed programs and the space they take, in order to be able to make decisions on this matter. I do not mean a list with all components, 'secondary' programs and dependencies like in Synaptic, which I know can be also displayed in the Terminal -- so please do not set as duplicate of this question --, but just a list with the main programs (those that appear in the main menu) and with the space they occupy on the disk. (I use Xubuntu 12.10)

    Hi there I'm using Pinnacle Studio 12 to edit some videos and as you can guess it use a lot of resources. The problem is that it eats all my free space from the C drive and after i close the application i don;t get back my free space. I assume it does some swap files but where and why it doesn't delete them? I don't store the project and saved files on C drive. I'm running Pinnacle Studio 12 on a XP sp3 Windows machine. I've tried to clean my system with CClean, but it doesn't find/see where my space is lost! TY

What will happen if the mac address changes from what verizon installed it as? Will they get angry and disconnect service? Will other services other than internet stop working (tv or phone)?

One for public traffic and one for a management traffic. Both interfaces have same mac address. DHCP server can detect interfaces via dhcp option field and dhcp class declarations. Every terminal have to have static ip address instead of dynamic address. With dynamic address and dynamic pools this would be an easy task. Or is there any dhcp server that can do this?

    My new notebook has been dropping the WiFi connection infrequently. The reason was, that my PS3 had the same MAC address. I changed the MAC address of my notebook and the WiFi is now stable. At first I just reduced the address' last block by 1, which happened to be the MAC address of another device. I reduced it again and for now it's fine. In order to avoid conflicts in the future, is there an address range that is safe to use for custom/non-vendor MAC addresses?

    Hi, I'm getting extra white space, that is not CSS, or nothing like it on the view output: The HTML. I've checked for ? (removed, where I could), saved UTF8 without BOM. Checked for existent white space in the beginning of each file, even at end. This is the structure: index.php - this is the entry point; MODEL/ CONTROLLER/ VIEW/ Let's say, that trough method GET, its sent the var TPL with some value. Let's call it LIST, so it pulls the LIST model, with all data and then show the right template to the user, with the right data. I used and tested, with require_once, include_once, include, even tested with readfile (just to test). The LIST Template opens the header.tpl and footer.tpl; I also tryed to remove this both includes from LIST template, but still, the extra white space continued. This is where the extra white space is coming from. This controller is placed between controller activity runs here , this is where the extra white space is coming from: $model_works-getRows(); $rows = $model_works-rows; if ( !require_once('views/list_works.tpl.php') ) { echo "Error."; } // end if clause The list_works.tpl.php, is basicly HTML with tags; I've t tested by changing the extension to something else, like html. Also, just to remember that at top of this file, we are using require_once to open the header.tpl and at bottom the footer.tpl. I've tested by removing both and the extra white space was still generated. The extra white space is being generated here: EXTRA WHITE SPACE HERE Thanks a lot for looking, ;D

    If I have a text file in Unix that contains N-many independent entries (e.g. records about employees, where each employee has a separate record), is it expected that this file will take up less space than if I split the file into N files, each containing the entry for one employee? in other words, can one save significant space on unix file systems by concatenating many files together, or is the difference negligible? thanks.

  • Where is my free space?

    A week ago I got a low disk space warning on my Vista x64 Ultimate box - 60 Mb free on the disk C; I cleaned up some downloaded msdn images and got 20 Gb freed up. Three days ago I got another notification, it looked suspicious but I didnt have time to deal with it and just moved some heavy stuff to another drive to free up about 17 Gb.... Today morning - 53Mb left on drive C, again! Now it looks really suspecious, so I downloaded TreeSize to see what's taking up the space, just to see it reporting only 121 GB out of 200 GB used, in other words I suppose to have about 79 Gb free. Then I went to Folder Options, enabled viewing of system and hidden files, rerun teh tool to see another 5 Gb added (which is expected). Then I open disk C in windows explorer, select all and right click Properties, to see it reporting teh same amount of files - 126 Gb. But when I look at Drive C properties, it reports that 200GB of 200 Gb are taken. I just scanned the drive with two different antiviruses - Symantec and AVG and found no viruses... I'm a little confused at this point, any ideas where is my free space, woudl be highly appreciated! Thank you! Andrey

    Now this is a very unspecific question. I'm trying to figure out what this message would mean. Here is the story behind it: I'm installing Oracle enterprise manager cloud control (12c r3) on Solaris 10 (5/09). Installer opens up, i enter all needed information and at the last step click Install. It immediately crashes with only "ERROR: Not enough space" written in log and console and nothing else. Now, this could be java error or Solaris error? I'm thinking it's happening either when it starts to copy files or when it tries to launch a process that would do that. What space is it referring to? disk (have ehough), swap (also), memory (yep)... Any ideas are helpful.   • Static IP for dynamic IP

    I have a dynamic IP address. I would like to have a static IP, but Virgin Media don't allow static IPs for residential broadband services, even if you ask them really nicely and offer to pay for it without switching to a business tariff. I am already registered with a dynamic DNS service which is updated by my router eg me.example.com will always resolve to my dynamic IP. This is fine for some circumstances, but not if you can only enter an IP address into configuration files/hardware etc like firewalls, subversion services etc etc. Is there a way I can have a static IP address 'forwarding' to my dynamic IP? Would a possible solution involve tunnelling? Setting up a private proxy? Please note the following: I am able to buy an IP address from my web host. I have access to a webserver and I am able to create custom DNS zones. I'm happy to have a webserver running at home if necessary also. I do not wish to change broadband providers. I have zero control over the services that require the IP address entering so I cannot tackle the problem that way round (services I need to access are at work). PS I've tried googling this issue, but it is very difficult to search for as most results are related to dynamic dns (which I already have set up and isnt quite what I'm after)
