• Windows 8 Professional didn't come with Internet Explorer 10(Metro)

  When I installed Windows 8 Professional Edition I noticed that Internet Explorer 10 was missing. I tried to find some source to acquire the installer but none of the sites are providing it. One of my colleagues upgraded recently and he got the new Internet Explorer after his installation was completed. So is there a way to acquire the installer? Update: I should have mentioned that I was talking about the Metro version.

  I was using Ubuntu 9, then automatically updated it to 10, then the minimize, maximize and close buttons that used to be on top right were moved to top left. Among the three buttons, close was moved to the far left. Close is below Applications and above File. You have to look to the close button to close Windows now. Why?

  Possible Duplicate: Is it possible to use the IE10 App without making Internet Explorer the default browser? I'm using Windows 8 Pro with Internet Explorer 10 on, and I downloaded Google Chrome, setting it the default browser. After that I saw that when I click on the Internet Explorer shortcut on the Start screen it opened me IE10 in the Desktop. Now I want to ask: can I use the IE10 App in Metro Style without making her the default browser?

• Domain pointing to wrong subscription in Plesk 10

  I recently moved a domain name in the Plesk 10 control panel from one subscription to another. DNS is managed by another server so there is no change in DNS at all. The IP address is shared and remains the same so there is really no need for a DNS change. But the domain is still managed by its former subscription (where it should have been removed from) and is pointing to exactly the same folder as in the past, even when is not in the list of domains there. Subsequently, the new subscription do not have the domain under its control. Even this domain is in list of domains here and points to another folder.

  Hello. I have a Dell OptiPlex 360 workstation at work, with 2 x ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] graphics cards installed, which are attached to two identical 19" HII flat panel monitors. I'm using the open source Radeon driver with Ubuntu, and the proprietary drivers with Windows. The good news is that dual head configuration works for both OSes. The bad news is, I have to use a different hardware configuration for each OS to achieve this. Hardware config #1: Dual monitors work for Windows XP Pro like this: First display -> external VGA port Second display -> DVI input on gfx card Hardware config #2: Dual monitors work for Ubuntu 10.04.1 like this: First display -> VGA port on gfx card Second display -> DVI input on gfx card I connected up the displays according to Config #2 and booted up Windows, which resulted in a mirror image on both screens. I was unable to login, as the login box was not visible. I unplugged the VGA lead from gfx card and plugged it into the external VGA port (Config #1) - Windows dual head works again, but the VGA-connected screen is not recognised by Ubuntu and remains in standby mode. Is it possible to configure a dual head setup for Ubuntu using Config #1, or am I missing something? I tried setting up dual monitors using Config #1, this morning which didn't work. We have some virtual hosts using one IP adress (shared) - e.g. example1.com - and another virtual host using a dedicated IP address (example2.com). Is there a way to configure postfix to do the following Always use the IP address of the virtual host to which the e-mail account belongs (so that an e-mail from [email protected] will originate from the shared IP-Address and an e-mail from [email protected] will originate from the dedicated IP? Use different certificates for TLS for example1.com and example2.com? If the latter is not possible: Could any problems arrive when using example1.com as certificate for example2.com users? Of course, example2.com users would have to configure their clients to use example1.com as the SMTP server name to avoid annoying security warnings. But if we still would be able to get the effect of the first point that would still be acceptable.

  I'm running Windows 8 Pro. My default browser is Internet Explorer 10 (and hence opens as a Modern Windows 8 app). I want to know how to print or save a webpage. There are no related settings available in the browser. The only option is to select "View on Desktop" and the browser interface familiar to IE 9 opens up on the desktop, through which I could access the above said options and additional settings. I know the Desktop is not going away anytime soon and that its still an important part of Windows. But if Microsoft is pitching for the Modern Windows UI, why would they leave out important options such as print & save from it and force a user to access the "old" Desktop mode for the same? Even Windows 8 RT supports plug-and-play access to Printers & Peripherals. So not being able to Print from a tablet or access the File System is definitely not an answer.

  I'm trying to get a touch screen working with Ubuntu 10.04LTS (64bit) -it is a serial touchsceen, connected at /dev/ttyS0 ,i know that works because I get garbage in the terminal when I enable it. -before the screen used a 3m driver (I believe) in XP. My knowledge of Linux is passive so I generally pick up something when I need it. To get this working I came accross a lot of tutorials (a lot outdated a bit), I'm still at a loss to get this work. I'm not sure where to put linux drivers (/usr/ or /dev/?) most tutorials kind of skip over that part. I have tried editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf unsuccessfully. I'm not sure what the syntax for that is supposed to be. Thank You

  I'm having a problem with my TextBoxs not "Auto" resizing. I'm trying to create a form that behaves and looks like the Properties Editor in Visual Studio. What appears to be happening is that the third column is not expanding to fill all of the available remaining space in the grid. Image below is how my form looks on startup.   Hello, I keep getting the "sorry, the maximum allowed clients from your host (10) are already connected" error whenever I try to transfer a large number of files. At first I thought it's a filezilla bug, however I get the same error basically with every FTP client I've tried, including Total Commander under Wine. I do not get that error using Windows. I did try to limit maximum allowed connections for Filezilla, both in server settings and in global settings, it didnt change anything. I did try to switch between passive and active modes (not sure if it's related at all, just last desperate attempt), and it didnt change anything either. When I try to use native ftp client (not sure how is it called, the one in Places - Connect to a server) I get abstract "connection refused" error every time I transfer large number of files. Connection is refused for separate particular files, if I click "Ignore" each time the rest of files are transfered perfectly well, so I assume it's the very same error. Anything I could do? This really drives me mad, transfering large numbers of files is a part of my everyday job... P.S. and this happens with many different FTP servers. Also I dont get this error in Windows. So I assume it's not a server problem. P.P.S. I am aware of similar question here, the answer provided just didn't solve it to me.

  I've searched around but i'm having no luck with some peculiar behavior with a flash archive. I'm using HP Server Automation 9.14 to deploy the OS. I'm creating a Solaris 10 flash archive to create a snapshot default build in our environment. I create the flash archive with # flar create -c -S -n g8-solaris10-u10 g8-solaris10-u10.flar It seems to create the file without any problems (exit status 0). When deploying to a new system (same hardware), it extracts to a point and then bails. The last error in the log I can see is Extracted 2047.00 MB ( 82% of 2488.98 MB archive) ERROR: Could not read file (172.27.118.100:/media/opsware/sunos/flar/g8-solaris10-u10.flar ERROR: Errors occurred during the extraction of flash archive. The file /tmp/flash_errors contains the list of errors encountered ERROR: Could not extract Flash archive ERROR: Flash installation failed The error log contained the following message cannot receive new filesystem stream: invalid backup stream A previous version of this flash archive (1.8gb) worked ok, so I suspect size may be a factor.   I've got a Solaris 10 workstation that I'd like to create a full image backup from. The machine has 2 drives, one UFS for system root, and 1 ZFS for data storage. I intend to add a third HD to keep the backup images of both primary drives (including any zfs snapshots). The purpose is not disaster recovery, but rather to allow me to easily blow away a series of application installation/configuration changes I intend to try. What's the best way to do this? I'm not too familiar with Solaris, but have some basic Linux knowledge. I looked at CloneZilla, but it does not support Solaris. I'm OK with just a dd | gzip > image style solution, but I'd need some way to first zero-out the non-used blocks on the primary drives to aid gzip. They are are much larger than my 3rd drive, but hardly have any real data. Update to clarify: I specifically want to avoid using any file-system snapshot functionality, because part of the app configuration changes involve/depend slightly on existing and new snapshots. Ideally the full collection of snapshots should be part of the backup. Virtualization not an option, because the goal is to do performance evaluation on a very specific HW configuration. For the same reason, the spurious "back up" snapshots could skew performance data. Thank you

• Removing resource limits on Solaris 10

  How should one remove all potential artificial resource limitations for a process? I just saw a case where a server application consumed resources so that some limitation was hit. The other shells into the same server etc were all extremely slow (waiting for something to free up for them; ie. prstat starting 5 minutes). It wasn't CPU/memory related problem so I think it has got something to do with ulimits / projects. Already managed to set the maximum open files to 500 000 and it helped a little bit. However there is something else and I can not figure out what resource is maxed out. I can get some in-house administrator probably to check this but I would like to understand how I could make sure there shouldn't be any limitations! If you think I am going the wrong way (would be better to figure out what limitation should be specfically tuned etc) please feel free to point me to the correct way. • Use MvcContrib Grid to Display a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC

  The past six articles in this series have looked at how to display a grid of data in an ASP.NET MVC application and how to implement features like sorting, paging, and filtering. In each of these past six tutorials we were responsible for generating the rendered markup for the grid. Our Views included the <table> tags, the <th> elements for the header row, and a foreach loop that emitted a series of <td> elements for each row to display in the grid. While this approach certainly works, it does lead to a bit of repetition and inflates the size of our Views. The ASP.NET MVC framework includes an HtmlHelper class that adds support for rendering HTML elements in a View. An instance of this class is available through the Html object, and is often used in a View to create action links (Html.ActionLink), textboxes (Html.TextBoxFor), and other HTML content. Such content could certainly be created by writing the markup by hand in the View; however, the HtmlHelper makes things easier by offering methods that emit common markup patterns. You can even create your own custom HTML Helpers by adding extension methods to the HtmlHelper class. MvcContrib is a popular, open source project that adds various functionality to the ASP.NET MVC framework. This includes a very versatile Grid HTML Helper that provides a strongly-typed way to construct a grid in your Views. Using MvcContrib's Grid HTML Helper you can ditch the <table>, <tr>, and <td> markup, and instead use syntax like Html.Grid(...). • Automating silent software deployments on Solaris 10

  Hello everyone. Essentially, the question I'd like to ask is related to the automation of software package deployments on Solaris 10. Specifically, I have a set of software components in tar files that run as daemon processes after being extracted and configured in the host environment. Pretty much like any server side software package out there, I need to ensure that a list of prerequisites are met before extracting and running the software. For example: Checking that certain users exists, and they are associated with one or many user groups. If not, then create them and their group associations. Checking that target application folders exist and if not, then create them with preconfigured path values defined when the package was assembled. Checking that such folders have the appropriate access control level and ownership for a certain user. If not, then set them. Checking that a set of environment variables are defined in /etc/profile, pointed to predefined path locations, added to the general $PATH environment variable, and finally exported into the user's environment. Other files include /etc/services and /etc/system. Obviously, doing this for many boxes (the goal in question) by hand can be slow and error prone. I believe a better alternative is to somehow automate this process. So far I have thought about the following options, and discarded them for one reason or another. 1) Traditional shell scripts. I've only troubleshooted these before, and I don't really have much experience with them. These would be my last resort. 2) Python scripts using the pexpect library for analyzing system command output. This was my initial choice since the target Solaris environments have it installed. However, I want to make sure that I'm not reinveting the wheel again :P. 3) Ant or Gradle scripts. They may be an option since the boxes also have java 1.5 enabled, and the fileset abstractions can be very useful. However, they may fall short when dealing with user and folder permissions checking/setting. It seems obvious to me that I'm not the first person in this situation, but I don't seem to find a utility framework geared towards this purpose. Please let me know if there's a better way to accomplish this. I thank you for your time and help.
