    Hi, I am migrating from Windows to OS X and looking for a good way to browse zip, rar etc. archives. Ideally, I need a plugin for Finder which will allow me to open archives as folders. Is there one, or any other suitable solution? Preferably free Update As I understand, most of Mac users are using Path Finder app for file management. It is an awesome program, however surprisingly it also doesn't have such functionality. I guess, the problem is in the way of thinking – my Windows-thinking is not applicable to Mac.     Hi, I use MAMP PRO as global webserver. First of all, is it a good idea? Secondly, my objective is to run a Drupal website with as easy management as possible. Now I want to use Plugin Manager module to install additional modules and themes for my website. It wants to use ftp for that, and I know that if I open access to FTP port then IT-department guys will come to me and ask to shut it down. So I wonder if there is a way to allow Plugin Manager to install modules, having the port 21 closed somehow?

  • Problem with unpacking zip archive with UTF-8 file names in OS X if zip was made in Windows

    I have packed my files in Windows 7 using Total Commander asking to use UTF-8 for file names. Then I tried to unpack my files in OS X, but Cyrillic names were messed. I have tried most programs -- none has helped me, so I had to use Parallels with Windows and Total Commander to get what I want. Is there any other way to do it? Is it a fault of Total Commander or I need to tune OS X settings?

    I have 3 folders: Folder 1 Folder 2 Folder 3 In each folder I have 5 pdf files: Folder 1 file1.pdf file2.pdf Folder 2 file1.pdf file2.pdf Folder 3 file1.pdf file2.pdf I want that in each folder to have a combined file of those two files: Folder 1 binder.pdf Folder 2 binder.pdf Folder 3 binder.pdf Any idea? Don't tell to do it manually. This case is just to explain you my problem. Think that I have hundreds of folders. :) Maybe I can use another tool instead of Adobe Acrobat?!

    I just want to know how other people set up their MX-entries for mail accounts used with google apps. I work at a local web-hosting firm and we get a lot of tickets from clients who want to set up these settings. I just set them up something like: example.com. 14400 IN MX 10 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 10 ASPMX4.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 15 ASPMX5.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 15 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 30 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. I see another firm (rival one) who sets up way more MX-records ? Roughly, around 10-15 entries. Am I doing something wrong ? More is better in this case ? Is there a secret that I'm not on too ?

  • Puppet variables best practice, generalise or specialise?

    I'm trying to figure out which things should be in git within the puppet manifest and which should be in env vars like FACTER_my_var and use that in the manifest instead. Scenario: you are deploying 3 php apps and you've already built all the layers up to the app in other manifests (base system, php extensions, users, etc), and all that's left is installing the correct app (from an apt repo) and creating a vhost. I'm tempted to have something along the lines of: apache::vhost { $::project_hostname: priority => '10', port => '80', docroot => $::project_document_root, logroot => "/var/log/apache2/${$::project_name}", serveradmin => '[email protected]', require => Package[httpd], ssl => false, override => 'all', setenv => ["APP_KERNEL dev"] } This would run on each server, and the FACTER_project_* vars would be set on a per server basis. An obvious restriction of this would be that you can't run more than one app with this specific example. Or would you rather have project_x.pp, project_y.pp which have hardcoded paths and names?

    In order to calculate the SHA1 checksum of a downloaded file, I could type /usr/bin/openssl sha1 in Terminal and then drag there the file which I want check. To make it simpler, one could enable a Context Menu item for this action. What is the best way to create such item in Mac OS X 10.6? A detailed answer is appreciated, because I don't have good experience with AppleScript, etc. Step by step Open Automator Create new service Choose to receive selected Files and Folders in Finder Add action Run Shell Script where your bash command is /usr/bin/openssl sha1 "$@" and you pass input as arguments How can I get the output?     There are several ways how to toggle hidden files - via a shell command, or AppleScript, or Automator action, or even a Dashboard widget. All of them close and reopen Finder windows, which is quite annoying. On the other hand, for the Open File dialog one can easily toggle hidden files by pressing Command+Shift+Period. Is it possible to avoid relaunching Finder?

  • Gmail - Ways to have more than 20 items per page in the search results

    Gmail has the notorious limitation of 20 results per page when searching your mail. Is there an extension (Chrome - preferable, Firefox, etc.) that can fix this (i.e. allow more than 20 items per page)? Based on my experience this should be entirely doable (have the extension move across pages in the background and then collect the results). Is there an extension that can already do this? I'm asking because I couldn't find one.

  • What's a quick and dirty way to get a user list with login time from active directory?

    Im trying to obtain a list of users with their login time (n times if they have logged in more than once) in a particular timespan, for example between 2pm and 3pm on 10/10/2012. I've been fiddling around with powershell, but couldn't get much out of it, downloaded the PowerShell extensions from Quest, tried out some snippets, but I couldn't find something that fits my needs. My guess is to query the events on the Active Directory server but haven't been able to get a snippet that works so far.

  • How to retry connections with wget?

    I have a very unstable internet connection, and sometimes have to download files as large as 200 MB. The problem is that the speed frequently drops and sits at --, -K/s and the process remains alive. I thought just to send some KILL signals to the process, but as I read in the wget manual about signals it doesn't help. How can I force wget to reinitialize itself and pick the download up where it left off after the connection drops and comes back up again? I would like to leave wget running, and when I come back, I want to see it downloading, and not waiting with speed --,-K/s.

    Hello all, I get this error when adding a reference to the Microsoft.Search.Interop.dll library in a new project that I created. Microsoft.Search.Interop.dll is a library that provides some useful API to communicate with Windows Search. I use it in order to add a folder to the system indexer. Did anybody else get this error, and if so, how should I go about solving it? I'm using VS2010 RC on a Windows Server 2008 if that is important. Thanks.

  • Visual Studio 2010 crashes nearly every time when closing

    Mostly it happens if we open a team project from tfs 2008 or tfs 2010, but crashes can happen any time. When VS is closing down, it crashes nearly every time. Tried trial RTM and our MSDN download - same story. Tried on three different PCs - same issue. Tried on 32 and 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 - crashes. Is it just our luck or does it happen to you to?
