  I'm developing an iPhone application. I have an EXC_BAD_ACCESS that occurs only in the release target; when I build the debug target the exception does not occur. However, when I set the NSZombieEnabled environment variable to YES, I still get the EXC_BAD_ACCESS with no further information. Is it even possible for NSZombieEnabled to work when executing the release target? I don't see why not, since gdb is running in both cases...

• How do I parse file paths separated by a space in a string?

  Background: I am working in Automator on a wrapper to a command line utility. I need a way to separate an arbitrary number of file paths delimited by a single space from a single string, so that I may remove all but the first file path to pass to the program. Example input string: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 /Users/jimmy/gone mia/come back jimmy.mp3 ... Desired output: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 Part of the problem is the inflexibility on the Automator end of things. I'm using an Automator action which returns unescaped POSIX filepaths delimited by a space (or comma). This is unfortunate because: 1. I cannot ensure file/folder names will not contain either a space or comma, and 2. the only inadmissible character in Mac OS X filenames (as far as I can tell) is :. There are options which allow me to enclose the file paths in double or single quotes, or angle brackets. The program itself accepts the argument of the aforementioned input string, so there must be a way of separating the paths. I just do not have a keen enough eye to see how to do it with sed or awk. At first I thought I'll just use sed to replace every [space]/ with [newline]/ and then trim all but the first line, but that leaves the loophole open for folders whose names end with a space. If I use the comma delimiter, the same happens, just for a comma instead. If I encapsulate in double or single quotation marks, I am opening another can of worms for filenames with those characters. The image/link is the relevant part of my Automator workflow. -- UPDATE -- I was able to achieve what I wanted in a rather roundabout way. I thought something like this might work SELECT TOP 4 a.* FROM ( SELECT * from Usernames WHERE Name = 'Bob' UNION SELECT * from Usernames WHERE Name LIKE '%Bob%' ) AS a but there are two problems: It's an inefficient query since the sub-select could return many rows (looking at the execution plan shows a join happening before top) (Almost) more importantly, the exact match(es) will not appear first in the results since the resulting set appears to be ordered by primary key. I am looking for a query that will return (for TOP 4) Id | Name --------- 20 | Bob 90 | Bob (and then 2 results from the LIKE query, e.g. 1 Bobby and 100 Joe-Bob) Is this possible in a single query?

  How do I change the default file permissions for files created on a Mac server? In case it's relevant, this is a Mac Mini running Mac OS 10.6.7. It's currently used mainly as a file server, and there are several users who need to share files. These files need to be writable by all, rather than the default which is writable only by the owner. I've been trying to do something with umask and a startup script, but I'm not sure there's a startup script that will apply to connections via Finder. I also need this to apply to files created on a client (also Macs) and copied onto the server.

• how to multi-boot/upgrade linux from LVM-based partition

  i currently have FC3 linux which installed itself on the hard disk using LVM partitioning, so it is basically all one big partition. i would like to try some other distributions and upgrade to something newer, but don't want to lose my current capabilities and data files, and i know nothing or less about LVM. Is it possible (and if so an example would be nice) to install a non-LVM-based distribution on the LVM disk and have multi-boot options? Or do i have to start over new and drop the LVM? My guess is that i should save my /home (data files and .rc files) on a backup device first, then somewhere/somehow create a new partion for installing another distribution. Any LVM experts out there that have tried anything like this--well i sure could use some pointers and advice...

  Can Outlook 2010 send me reminder alarms when the program is closed? If not, is there an add-on for this? Also, I use OneNote to take class notes, and sometimes, I will use the draw feature. When I close the program and come back to the notebook later, the drawings will shift and be scrambled, making my notes impossible to read and a huge hassle to fix.   I have a PDF that requires a password to view. I know what the password is. I frequently open this PDF to print it, and find entering the password each time incredibly annoying. How can I remove the password from the PDF? Since I need to print it, simply taking a screenshot isn't a good solution. • OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard no longer mounting an external USB drive

  I have a 1TB generic external hard drive containing a single HFS partition. I originally formatted this using Disk Utility and it worked fine. Now, for some reason, it's not auto-mounting when I start up. Using mount at the command line gives the following error: $ sudo mount /dev/disk1s2 /Volumes/Test /dev/disk1s2 on /Volumes/Test: Incorrect super block. ... but if I use the mount_hfs command it works fine, mounts, and is readable. $ mount_hfs /dev/disk1s2 /Volumes/Test/ fsck gives me an error about a bad super block: $ fsck /dev/disk1 ** /dev/rdisk1 (NO WRITE) BAD SUPER BLOCK: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG ... but fsck_hfs -fn /dev/disk1s2 doesn't find any problems and reports that the volume appears to be OK. In Disk Utility, the drive appears to have a single MS-DOS partition with a curious notice about how it appears to be partitioned for Boot Camp: I have the Boot Camp HFS driver installed in WIndows 7, and that OS sees the drive/partition normally. What's wrong with my disk?

• InstallShield or Windows installer corrupted

  Just recently I've been unable to install any software on my Windows 7 machine. Anything that uses InstallShield or the Windows installer will just hang or give a weird error. I noticed there will be many duplicate isbew64.exe processes (like 25) that launch and then just sit there or else a lot of msiexec.exe *32 processes, depending on what I'm trying to install. One piece of software specifically is the Logitech Harmony software. It gives me an *is_string_not_defined* error, saying c:\program files (x86)\:\ the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. The other thing I was trying to install was Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and that just hangs as well, and then just leaves all the Windows installer processes running in the background after I quit the install process. Very odd. I've checked well and googled these issues, it doesn't appear to be any sort of malware issue. I feel like it's related to some kind of corrupted installer application. I've rebooted, deleted the InstallShield folder in program files/common files as some places online suggested but to no avail. I have no idea what to do, any ideas?

• USB-Sticks and multiple Partitions

  Hello. I've got an USB-Stick with multiple Partitions on it (FAT32 (active), FAT32, Ext2 <-- that's another story) and it seems like that my Windows XP can only mount the first partition of the stick. If I try to mount the second one using the volume manager it tells me that I need to make it active and reboot...is it really that limited or am I just missing something here? Partitions: FAT32, System Rescue CD, bootable and active FAT32, some tools ext2, some data (I know that I need extra drivers etc., but that's not asked here. Edit (Solution): Thanks to the answer with the RMB (ReMoveable Bit) I was able to dig up a solution described at this site (Section: On flash drive only the first partition works). Basically, there's an Hitachi Driver available which filters the RMB on Driver-Level, which just needs to be a little modified to function with basically every USB-Stick. All you need to do is adding the "Device Instance ID" to the driver and then use this driver.

• In an environment with multiple WiFi access points, do wireless clients sometimes connect to both at the same time?

  This is more of a curiosity than a problem, but in this new office I have two D-link DAP-2553's connected in a master/slave array (this just means the master keeps certain configuration options aligned with the slave). The network is set to 802.11n-only, and each AP has the same SSID and WPA2 key. The only difference is that they are on different channels (1 and 11). The WiFi network itself is working well. Users can roam around and the signal/speed is fairly consistent. However, I notice that when I look at the 802.11 client list in the web admin page for each of the 2 APs, I see that certain clients are connected to both, for extended periods of time, but I assume they are only passing data through one of them. Not every client is seen on each AP, but at any given time the same MAC address of a WiFi adapter can be associated (and remain associated) with both APs. The client list auto-refreshes every few seconds so I believe I'm looking at the most recent rather than stale information. One of the WiFi adapters that consistently associates with both APs is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 (laptop chip). Is it part of the WiFi standard that more than one association per WiFi card can be established concurrently on separate APS?
