  • Unobtrusive Client Side Validation with Dynamic Contents in ASP.NET MVC 3

    - by imran_ku07
        Introduction:          A while ago, I blogged about how to perform client side validation for dynamic contents in ASP.NET MVC 2 at here. Using the approach given in that blog, you can easily validate your dynamic ajax contents at client side. ASP.NET MVC 3 also supports unobtrusive client side validation in addition to ASP.NET MVC 2 client side validation for backward compatibility. I feel it is worth to rewrite that blog post for ASP.NET MVC 3 unobtrusive client side validation. In this article I will show you how to do this.       Description:           I am going to use the same example presented at here. Create a new ASP.NET MVC 3 application. Then just open HomeController.cs and add the following code,   public ActionResult CreateUser() { return View(); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult CreateUserPrevious(UserInformation u) { return View("CreateUserInformation", u); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult CreateUserInformation(UserInformation u) { if(ModelState.IsValid) return View("CreateUserCompanyInformation"); return View("CreateUserInformation"); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult CreateUserCompanyInformation(UserCompanyInformation uc, UserInformation ui) { if (ModelState.IsValid) return Content("Thank you for submitting your information"); return View("CreateUserCompanyInformation"); }             Next create a CreateUser view and add the following lines,   <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<UnobtrusiveValidationWithDynamicContents.Models.UserInformation>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> CreateUser </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <div id="dynamicData"> <%Html.RenderPartial("CreateUserInformation"); %> </div> </asp:Content>             Next create a CreateUserInformation partial view and add the following lines,   <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<UnobtrusiveValidationWithDynamicContents.Models.UserInformation>" %> <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <%using (Html.BeginForm("CreateUserInformation", "Home")) { %> <table id="table1"> <tr style="background-color:#E8EEF4;font-weight:bold"> <td colspan="3" align="center"> User Information </td> </tr> <tr> <td> First Name </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.FirstName)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.FirstName)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Last Name </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.LastName)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.LastName)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Email </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.Email)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.Email)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3" align="center"> <input type="submit" name="userInformation" value="Next"/> </td> </tr> </table> <%} %> <script type="text/javascript"> $("form").submit(function (e) { if ($(this).valid()) { $.post('<%= Url.Action("CreateUserInformation")%>', $(this).serialize(), function (data) { $("#dynamicData").html(data); $.validator.unobtrusive.parse($("#dynamicData")); }); } e.preventDefault(); }); </script>             Next create a CreateUserCompanyInformation partial view and add the following lines,   <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<UnobtrusiveValidationWithDynamicContents.Models.UserCompanyInformation>" %> <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <%using (Html.BeginForm("CreateUserCompanyInformation", "Home")) { %> <table id="table1"> <tr style="background-color:#E8EEF4;font-weight:bold"> <td colspan="3" align="center"> User Company Information </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Company Name </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.CompanyName)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.CompanyName)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Company Address </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.CompanyAddress)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.CompanyAddress)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Designation </td> <td> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(a => a.Designation)%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(a => a.Designation)%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3" align="center"> <input type="button" id="prevButton" value="Previous"/>   <input type="submit" name="userCompanyInformation" value="Next"/> <%=Html.Hidden("FirstName")%> <%=Html.Hidden("LastName")%> <%=Html.Hidden("Email")%> </td> </tr> </table> <%} %> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#prevButton").click(function () { $.post('<%= Url.Action("CreateUserPrevious")%>', $($("form")[0]).serialize(), function (data) { $("#dynamicData").html(data); $.validator.unobtrusive.parse($("#dynamicData")); }); }); $("form").submit(function (e) { if ($(this).valid()) { $.post('<%= Url.Action("CreateUserCompanyInformation")%>', $(this).serialize(), function (data) { $("#dynamicData").html(data); $.validator.unobtrusive.parse($("#dynamicData")); }); } e.preventDefault(); }); </script>             Next create a new class file UserInformation.cs inside Model folder and add the following code,   public class UserInformation { public int Id { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "First Name is required")] [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "First Name max length is 10")] public string FirstName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Last Name is required")] [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "Last Name max length is 10")] public string LastName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Email is required")] [RegularExpression(@"^\w+([-+.']\w+)*@\w+([-.]\w+)*\.\w+([-.]\w+)*$", ErrorMessage = "Email Format is wrong")] public string Email { get; set; } }             Next create a new class file UserCompanyInformation.cs inside Model folder and add the following code,    public class UserCompanyInformation { public int UserId { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Company Name is required")] [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "Company Name max length is 10")] public string CompanyName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "CompanyAddress is required")] [StringLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Company Address max length is 50")] public string CompanyAddress { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Designation is required")] [StringLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Designation max length is 10")] public string Designation { get; set; } }            Next add the necessary script files in Site.Master,   <script src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-1.4.4.min.js")%>" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.min.js")%>" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js")%>" type="text/javascript"></script>            Now run this application. You will get the same behavior as described in this article. The key important feature to note here is the $.validator.unobtrusive.parse method, which is used by ASP.NET MVC 3 unobtrusive client side validation to initialize jQuery validation plug-in to start the client side validation process. Another important method to note here is the jQuery.valid method which return true if the form is valid and return false if the form is not valid .       Summary:          There may be several occasions when you need to load your HTML contents dynamically. These dynamic HTML contents may also include some input elements and you need to perform some client side validation for these input elements before posting thier values to server. In this article I shows you how you can enable client side validation for dynamic input elements in ASP.NET MVC 3. I am also attaching a sample application. Hopefully you will enjoy this article too.   SyntaxHighlighter.all()

  • Decode html tag so that it can be read when it goes back to the server more specifically the controller

    - by Yusuf
    My engine is Aspx. How can I decode/encode the html tags that is in my text box. I have the html tag to make it more readable. I tried the ValidationRequest and the htmlDecode(freqQuestion.Answer) but no luck. I just keep getting the same message. Server Error in '/Administrator' Application. A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (QuestionAnswer="...ics Phone:123-456-7890 Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. To allow pages to override application request validation settings, set the requestValidationMode attribute in the httpRuntime configuration section to requestValidationMode="2.0". Example: . After setting this value, you can then disable request validation by setting validateRequest="false" in the Page directive or in the configuration section. • Checkbox has the wrong values

    - by Praesagus
    I have a page with several checkboxes on it, along with a dropdownlist of users. The checkboxes correlate to the user's permissions so each user is different. When a different user is chosen, the check boxes should change to match that user's permissions. The codebehind is correct, I stepped through it and the checkbox.checked value is being assigned to the box with the correct value to match the user. chk.Checked = viewable; No matter what I assign to the checked property the value stays the same as the very first submittal. I tried chk.EnableViewState = false; but that did not help. I am sure it is dot net trying to be helpful (grrr). Thank you for your help. There is no databinding per se. I will be saving the values from the textboxes via xmlhttp when the user clicks on them. I never want the check boxes to fill with values other than what I give them. Here is the essence of the code. foreach (DataRow dRow in dTable.Rows) { viewable = Convert.ToBoolean(dRow["Viewable"]); table.Rows.Add(CreatePageRow(Convert.ToString(dRow["SitePageViewName"]), Convert.ToString(dRow["SitePageName"]), folderDepth, maxFolderDepth, viewable)); } FileTree.Controls.Add(table); private TableRow CreatePageRow(String ViewName, String FileName, Int32 folderDepth, Int32 maxFolderDepth, Boolean viewable) { TableRow tr = new TableRow(); tr.Cells.Add(CreateCheckboxCell(viewable, folderDepth+3)); tr.Cells.Add(CreateImageCell("/images/icon/sm/report_graph.gif", "Page: " + ViewName)); tr.Cells.Add(CreateTitleCell(ViewName, maxFolderDepth - (folderDepth+1), FileName)); return tr; } private TableCell CreateCheckboxCell(Boolean viewable, Int32 colSpan) { TableCell td = new TableCell(); if (colSpan > 1) td.ColumnSpan = colSpan; CheckBox chk = new CheckBox(); chk.Checked = viewable; chk.EnableViewState = false; td.Controls.Add(chk); td.CssClass = "right"; return td; }

  • Retrieving saved checkboxes' name and values from database

    - by sermed
    I have a form with checkboxes, each one has a value. When the registered user select any checkbox the value is incremented (the summation) and then then registred user save his selection of checkbox if he satisfied with the result of summation into database all this work fine ...i want to enable the registred user to view his selection history by retriving and displaying the checkboxes he selected in a page with thier values ... How I can do that? I'm just able to save the selected checkboxes as choice 1, choice 2, for example .. I want to view the selected checkboxes that is saved in database as the appear in the page when the user first select them: for example if the registred user selects these 3 options LEAD DEEP KEEL (1825) FULLY BATTENED MAINSAIL (558) TEAK SIDE DECKS (2889) They will be saved as for example (choice1, choice2, choice3). But if he want to view selected checkboxes the appear exactly as first he selects them: LEAD DEEP KEEL (1825) FULLY BATTENED MAINSAIL (558) TEAK SIDE DECKS (2889) This is my user table: $query="CREATE TABLE User( user_id varchar(20), password varchar(40), user_type varchar(20), firstname varchar(30), lastname varchar(30), street varchar(50), city varchar(50), county varchar(50), post_code varchar(10), country varchar(50), gender varchar(6), dob varchar(15), tel_no varchar(50), vals varchar(50), email varchar(50))"; and the code to inser the options selected to database <?php include("databaseconnection.php"); $str = ''; foreach($_POST as $key => $val) if (strpos($key,'choice') !== false) $str .= $key.','; $query = "INSERT INTO User (vals) VALUES('$str')"; $result=mysql_query($query,$conn); if ($result) { (mysql_error(); } else { echo " done"; } ?> And this is my form: function checkTotal() { document.listForm.total.value = ''; var sum = 0; for (i=0;i It seems to go on lunch break for the while loop echoing section. Any ideas?

  • GWT HTMLTable colaspan feature

    - by Sanjay
    Hello all I am using HTMLTable of import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.HTMLTable I instantiated it like below: HTMLTable table = new Grid(rows, col); Number of rows and columns are decided by the user input. Now I want to used colspan for the specific rows of the table. One way to this is apply css to the that specific row.But problem with this is that Number of column to span are decided by the user input, i.e It may vary every time. So by using css it is something like making it static. So I want to know the way through which I can do colspan on the rows of the table. and Number of column to span is different every time. Thanks in advance

  • asp.net ModalPopupExtender : need to show scroll bar when overflow

    - by DavRob60
    I display a gridview in a ModalPopupExtender. When the screen resolution is to small, the pop-up is to big to all be displayed on the page. I just want to add scroll bar to the pop-up when this happen. I know it's probably some CSS, but all I tried did not work. here some base css .modalTextBoxBackground { background-color:Gray; filter:alpha(opacity=70); opacity:0.7; } .modalTextBox { border: 1px solid #FFFFFF; background-color: #0066CC; color: #00FFFF; } here some code from the aspx <asp:Panel ID="OptionSelectionPanel" runat="server" CssClass="modalTextBox"> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="OptionSelectionUpdatePanel" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional" > <Triggers> <asp:asyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="TemplateSelection" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <table class="EditRow"> <tr class="HeaderFooter"> <td colspan="3" class="modalTextBoxTitle"> Add options to Quote </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Manufacturer </td> <td> <asp:DropDownList ID="OptionManufacturerFilter" runat="server" DataSourceID="OptionManufacturerDataSource" DataTextField="Name" DataValueField="Code" AutoPostBack="True" > </asp:DropDownList> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3"> <asp:GridView ID="NewOptionSelection" runat="server" DataSourceID="AvailableOptions" DataKeyNames="Option_Id" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateColumns="false"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="category_Descr" HeaderText="Category" SortExpression="category_Descr,subcategory_Descr,code" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="subcategory_Descr" HeaderText="Sub-Category" SortExpression="subcategory_Descr,code" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Manuf_Name" HeaderText="Manufacturer" SortExpression="Manuf_Name"/> </Columns></asp:GridView> </td> </tr> <tr class="HeaderFooter"> <td colspan="3" class="Center"> <asp:Button ID="OptionSelectionClose" runat="server" Text="Close" /> </td> </tr> </table> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </asp:Panel> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="HiddenTargetControlForOptionSelectionModalPopup" style="display:none"/> <cc1:ModalPopupExtender ID="OptionSelectionModalPopupExtender" runat="server" TargetControlID="HiddenTargetControlForOptionSelectionModalPopup" PopupControlID="OptionSelectionPanel" BackgroundCssClass="modalTextBoxBackground" />

  • Parsing HTML using HtmlParser

    - by Blankman
    My html has 20 or so rows of the following HTML pattern. So the below is considered a single instance of the pattern. Each instance of this pattern represents a product. Again the below is a single instance, it spans multiple rows in the HTML table. <table> .. <!-- product starts here, this html comment is not in the real html --> <tr> <td rowspan="5" class="product" valign="top"><nobr> ????????????</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> <td class="title" ??????????>?????????</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="data" ?????? </td> <td class="data" ?????? </td> <td class="data" ?????? </td> <td class="data" ?????? </td> <td class="data" ?????? </td> <td class="data" ?????? </td> </tr> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="5" ????????</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="6" width="100%">&nbsp;<hr></td> </tr> <!-- product ends here, this html comment is not in the real html --> <!-- above pattern repeats multiple times in the HTML --> .. <table> I am trying to use HtmlParser for this. Parser rowParser = new Parser(); rowParser.setInputHtml(page.getHtml()); // page object represents a html page rowParser.setEncoding("UTF-8"); NodeFilter productRowFilter = new AndFilter( new TagNameFilter("tr"), new HasChildFilter( new AndFilter( new TagNameFilter("td"), new HasAttributeFilter("class", "product"))) The above filter doesn't work, just showing you what I have so far. I need to somehow combine these filters, and use the last td to mark the end of the pattern i.e. the td with the colspan=6 and width=100% with child element hr. I have been struggling with this, and have resorted to Regex'ing but was told numerous times to NOT use regex for html parsing, so here I am! Your help is much appreciated!

  • Problem with JS Selectbox Function

    - by Thomas
    I have a selectbox with three options. When a user selects one of the three options, I want a specific div to appear below it. I am trying to write the code that dictates which specific box is to appear when each of the three options is selected. So far, I have only worked on the code that pertains to the first option. However, whenever the user selects any of the three options from the selectbox, the function for the first option is triggered and the div is displayed. My question is two part: 1) How do I write a conditional function that specifically targets the selected option 2) What is the best way to accomplish what I have described above; How do I efficiently go about defining three different functions for three different options in a select box? Here is the function I was working on for the first option: $(document).ready(function(){ var subTableDiv = $("div.subTableDiv"); var subTableDiv1 = $("div.subTableDiv1"); var subTableDiv2 = $("div.subTableDiv2"); subTableDiv.hide(); subTableDiv1.hide(); subTableDiv2.hide(); var selectmenu=document.getElementById("customfields-s-18-s"); selectmenu.onchange=function(){ //run some code when "onchange" event fires var chosenoption=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value //this refers to "selectmenu" if (chosenoption.value ="Co-Op"){ subTableDiv1.slideDown("medium"); } } }); Html: <tr> <div> <select name="customfields-s-18-s" class="dropdown" id="customfields-s-18-s" > <option value="Condominium"> Condominium</option> <option value="Co-Op"> Co-Op</option> <option value="Condop"> Condop</option> </select> </div> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Condominium" class="subTableDiv">Hi There! This is the first Box</div> </td> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Co-Op" class="subTableDiv1">Hi There! This is the Second Box</div> </td> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Condop" class="subTableDiv2">Hi There! • Creando un File Upload

    - by jaullo
Protected Sub btnupload_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs) Handles btnupload.Click         If FileUpload1.HasFile Then             Dim fileExt As String             fileExt = System.IO.Path.GetExtension(FileUpload1.FileName)             If (fileExt = ".exe") Then                 Label1.Text = "You can´t upload .exe file!"             Else                 Try                     FileUpload1.SaveAs(decrpath & _                        FileUpload1.FileName)                     Label1.Text = "File name: " & _                       FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName & "<br>" & _                       "File Size: " & _                       FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentLength & " kb<br>" & _                       "Content type: " & _                       FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentType                 Catch ex As Exception                     Label1.Text = "ERROR: " & ex.Message.ToString()                 End Try             End If         Else             Label1.Text = "You have not specified a file!"

  • Binding a DropDownList in ListView InsertItemTemplate throwing an error

    - by Telos
    I've got a ListView which binds to a LinqDataSource and displays selected locations. The insert item Contains a dropdownlist that pulls from another LinqDataSource to give all the unselected locations. The problem is that I get the following error when loading the page: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. I'm doing a very similar setup in another page of the website, and it isn't giving us this error so I'm pretty confused. I know I can work around this by not binding, manually finding the control and getting the value, but this should work and I don't understand why it isn't. Any thoughts? The better part of the source code is below. <asp:LinqDataSource ID="ldsLocations" runat="server" ContextTypeName="ClearviewInterface.ESLinqDataContext" EnableDelete="true" EnableInsert="true" OnInserting="ldsLocations_Inserting" OnDeleting="ldsLocations_Deleting" TableName="crmLocations" OrderBy="addr1" OnSelecting="ldsLocations_Selecting" /> <asp:LinqDataSource ID="ldsFreeLocations" runat="server" ContextTypeName="ClearviewInterface.ESLinqDataContext" OrderBy="addr1" TableName="v_CVLocations" OnSelecting="ldsFreeLocations_Selecting" /> <asp:ListView ID="lvLocations" DataSourceID="ldsLocations" DataKeyNames="ID" InsertItemPosition="LastItem" runat="server" > <InsertItemTemplate> <tr> <td colspan="6"><hr /></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlFreeLocations" DataSourceID="ldsFreeLocations" DataTextField="addr1" DataValueField="record" MarkFirstMatch="true" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("record") %>' runat="server" /> </td> <td><asp:ImageButton ID="btnAdd" CommandName="Insert" SkinID="Insert" runat="server" /></td> </tr> </InsertItemTemplate>

  • How to MakeTable ReadOnly including contents like images

    - by GustlyWind
    I have a table which has two text boxes and a image beside it to click and open a popup. In read-only mode based on condition I am able to make text boxes read-only but images are not becoming read-only.One solution I had is the anchor tag associated with image calls for JavaScript where I can check for a dummy click when it is in read-only mode. The problem here is the function is common and effects everywhere. So is there a way to make the entire table read-only so that no extra workaround needs to done. Edited for code <table> <tr> <td class="lightbg" colspan='4'>&nbsp; Expires:<input type="TEXT" value="" id="element1" name="expireDate" size="10" maxlength="20" class="" onChange="javascript:validateDateEntry('element1',true);;"> Period:<input type="TEXT" value="" id="element2" name="refershDate" size="10" maxlength="20" class="" onChange="javascript:validateDateEntry('element2',true);;"> &nbsp; <a href="javascript:doCalendar('element1');"> <img src="/PWM/images/images_2006/calendarbtn.gif" border="0" alt="Click to select date from calendar" align="absmiddle"> </a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan='4'><b>*</b>Times are in the WFM Server's Time Zone.</td></tr> </table> Thanks

  • Help needed to align controls in a webpage

    - by Retrocoder
    I’m not too familiar with webpage design and am having a problem. I have the following datalist which is displayed ok but it is the section near the bottom that I am having with. I want the Hyperlink image to be on the same line as the “Details” text. Unfortunately the text appears below the Hyperlink control. Is there an easy fix to get what I want ? Should I be using the “div” mark-up instead of and ? <asp:DataList ID="dgDownloads" Width="100%" runat="server" EnableViewState="false" > <ItemTemplate> <tr> <td> <h3 class="mast3"><%# DataBinder.Eval (Container.DataItem, "Alias", "Reported by : {0}")%></h3> </td> <td> <h3 class="mast3"><%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "CreationDate", "Reported on : {0:dd/MM/yyyy}")%></h3> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <h3 class="mast6"><%# ((System.Data.IDataRecord) Container.DataItem)["Heading"] %></h3> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <asp:HyperLink CssClass="buttonStyle" ImageUrl="../images/bg/download.png" runat="server" NavigateUrl='<%#((System.Data.IDataRecord) Container.DataItem)["FileURL"] %>' /> <%# ((System.Data.IDataRecord) Container.DataItem)["Details"] %><ln/><br/><br/> </td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> </asp:DataList>
