• My internet speed became slow at night

  My internet plan is 512kbps unlimited and I get speed of average 64kbps but at night I used to get speed of 112kbps ..but recently my speed got normal like day time ...as per my view usually at night their is less traffic so I should get good speed like before ... Due to good speed I download and upload at night and my average download+upload per month is 60gb or 70gb... Is it that my ISP people putting restriction on my download and uploads.. I am confused.

• Is there a way to tell what the download speed is from a site/server

  i'm looking into which ISP i should go with at the place i'm moving into, one ISP which i have been told good things about has data limits (which when breached will drop your speed to dial-up speed) but multiple memberships which, apart from the cheapest membership, have the same data limits (the cheapest has a 10GB data limit) in their fine print, they say that each different membership has different port speeds, one particular part jumps out at me These speeds are the NBN (National Broadband Network) port speed and not the actual Internet data speed which will vary based on numerous factors including destination you are reaching, your network equipment, network congestion etc. i plan to use the net to download DLC and patch updates for games (particular the insanely large update for the Wii U) and games from Steam (if i find any good one other than this one JRPG) and downloading development resources from free sites like Deposit Files and Mediafire since one membership with a 1000GB data limit is $145 with the port speed being 12Mbps/1Mbps (cheapest) while another with the same limit is $190 with the port speed of 100Mbps/40Mbps (expensive) i am wondering how i can tell what the speed coming from site is since i don't want to be wasting money on speed that makes no difference (unlike memory which i rather have to spare) NOTE: the speeds are for a fiber optic network which where my new place is can only connect via fixed wireless which i may not be able to get with this ISP but if i can get this network then good NOTE 2: most of the resources i get from Deposit Files are always about 200 MB or less, if a resource pack is greater then it's split into multiple archives (like .7z.part) while Mediafire i have to see one bigger than 150MB NOTE 3: one update patch for a PS3 game is close to 4 GB (Disgaea 4) which i need to get access to the DLC and on the weekend i downloaded 5 GB for the Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta for the PS3 which took almost 5 hours

  Very IMPORTANT and INTERESTING UPDATE: Due to some reason I just thought to do a complete new setup and this time I decided to again have openSUSE plus ubuntu. So I first reinstall lubuntu and then I installed OpenSUSE 12.2 (64 bit). Now, my DSL speed is working very normal and fine on opensuse. So this is very scary. Is it possible for any operating system to manipulate my NIC so that it will work fine only on that operating system and not on another os? Regarding positive thinking and not being paranoid, what is it that makes ONLY suse to get my NIC to work at normal speed but ubuntu can not do it? Not even fedora? Not even linux mint? What all these OS are lacking that enables suse to work great? == ORIGINAL QUESTION == I 'was' on opensuse 12.2 when my dsl speed was normal. Yesterday I switched from opensuse to ubuntu 12.04 and speed decreased. It came to range of 7-10-13-20-25-kbps. Then I switch to linux mint, and then to fedora. Still slow speed. When I was in ubuntu I disabled ipv6 but still no luck. Now I am in fedora but this time with DIFFERENT ISP. And still I am getting very slow sped. So my guess is this is nothing to do with os. What can be wrong? Is this problem of NIC? Does NIC speed decreases over time? Does NIC life ends over time as with keyboard or mouse? Help please All the os I used are 64 bit and my laptop is Compaq Presario A965Tu Intel Centrino DUal Core. Interesting thing to notice is I get normal speed while downloading torrent inside torrent client softwares. This slow speed issue applied to download from any web browser or installing software using terminal.

• Network connection fails when downloading data

  In the past few weeks, I've noticed my network connection becoming unstable while downloading files. I'm not sure how to diagnose this issue. I've found that my network connections appear to be temporarily unresponsive (for periods up to a minute or so) while I'm downloading a file (that's large enough to not be downloaded instantly). The problem occurs when downloading data through a webbrowser, but also when using SCP to download data from a remote location. During the period in which network connections are unresponsive, every resource that I try to access over the network is unavailable. This includes: The download itself (SCP reports a 'stalled' download) Web pages (won't load - browsers report 'resource unavailable') SSH sessions (CLI freezes) VPN connections (connections terminate) IM client connections (client starts reconnection attempts) ... (everything is pretty much dead) I've noticed that during such a period, I cannot even access the (web-based) administrative console of the router on my LAN at home (although it remains reachable for other devices). The problem occurs when connected to my home network, but also when I'm in the office. Other devices than my laptop are not affected. Given the above two characteristics I assume the problem cause lies within my laptop, not the network infrastructure. I'm running Ubuntu 11.10. Apart from applying automatic updates from Ubuntu, I can't think of a change that I applied to the OS that could have started the problems. I'm absolutely positive that this issue did not occur up to a few weeks ago (as it's very noticeable, and only started to annoy me in the last few days). When the problem occurs, applications that make use of a network connection fail visibly (I get popups telling me that a VPN connection is broken, for instance). The network manager does not report any issues related to my wifi-connection though. Help?

  I brought Dell Inspiron N5050 few months back. from day 1 i am getting problem with wired connection, i am able to use web browser for few minutes then all of the sudden i lost internet connection but i don't know why transmission is still able to download torrent from internet. today i installed steadyflow download manager and i see it is also downloading fine but beside these everything fails to connect to internet. one more thing internet connection is recovered automatically after few minutes.   Is there any tool or method that will load a localhost page a number of times, and return the averaged data for load times, onload events, Dom ready events, etc? I'd like to work on page speed optimization, but need a baseline before I begin. I have used both Google analytics and Webmaster tools, but I'd like an automated solutions that runs locally. My ideal solution would be a program or script that would take the path/file, number of iterations, and then take several minutes to load the page n times without cache and crunch numbers to create a baseline.

  I been trying for weeks with vmwware player, now d/l vmwware work station 7, Have a laptop with one built in modem and a usb modem I bought, It works great switching it over from host to use in ubuntu to connect to the net, now when I use that modem from the host to connect online I have no trouble getting ubuntu to share the internet connection, But tried with NAT bridge host and all to get it to work from ubuntu to share the internet connection to windows vista, the host, I know it should work if it works the other way around, I tried setting up my wlan0 eht0 and eth1 to the correct IP can get both systems to notice each other by name and ip, but cant get them to share the connection from guest to host, I've tried iptables and all as well, Can someone please help me out with this? I am sure It is something something I'm over looking, Thanks in advance

• DB2 Driver Connection Hanging in Glassfish Connection Pool

  We have an intermittent issue around the DB2 used from a Glassfish connection pool. What happens is this: Under situations where the database (DB2 on ZOS) is under stress, our application (which is a multi-threaded application using connections to DB2 via a Glassfish connection pool) stops doing anything. The following are observed: 1) Looking at the server using JConsole, we can see a thread waiting indefinitely in the DB2 driver's getConnection() method. We can also see that it has gained a lock on a Vector within the driver. Several other threads are also calling the getConnection() method in the driver, and are hanging waiting for the lock on the Vector to be released. 2) Looking at the database itself, we can see that there are connections from the Glassfish server open and waiting to be used. It seems that there is some sort of mismatch between the connection pool on Glassfish and the connections actually open to DB2. Has anyone come across this issue before? Or something similar? If you need any more information that I haven't provided, then please let me know!

I have just installed the Google Chrome browser which also has the Speed Dial Extension. Is there a way to export/import/copy/sync my Speed Dial settings i have in Firefox to the Speed Dial extension in Chrome? I know i can export from Speed Dial in Firefox but can't see any easy way to import from Speed Dial in Chrome.

  Hello Few days ago I opened my computer as I always do after school, and got pretty amazed about my 1.27kb/s download-speed. It has continued for few days already. We have a wireless network, which is used by 3 computers. Normally I've gotten 200kb/s (I think we have a 2mb-connection) but now it just suddenly slowed down. My friends have the same service-provider, but no problem. So, is there any kind of program, which would show me all the programs using connection and how much. • Cannot establish Wired connection on Acer Aspire 5930G

  I use an Acer Aspire 5930G, dual booted with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10. My problem is that i cannot establish wired connection on my ubuntu. Wireless connection works in both of my OSs but the Wired connection does not, only on the Ubuntu. I have already tried the common fix: echo on | sudo tee /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power/control but without any results.   I have installed Ubuntu on a notebook that I have configured to connect to the internet using an Iburst USB modem. This works 100% after a bit of configuring. I now have a desktop pc that I have installed ubuntu on, and would like to connect the two with a router. I bought a router with wifi, and would like to connect my notebook to the other computer using wifi, while still keeping the internet working with the usb modem. The problem is that as soon as the wifi connect, the internet connection dies. Is there a way to force ubuntu to get internet access through the usb modem, but use wifi to connect to the network? I am pretty new to ubuntu so any help would be appreciated. I also have a samsung galaxy tab that I would like to connect to the internet through usb modem via the wifi, so is there also a way to share that internet connection with the other computers on the network? • Wlan connection got lost permanent

  I have a desktop with a fritz usb wlan n tick and tried ubuntu 12.04. installlation is fine and wlan is working, however connection drops permanent. reconnecting manually fixes it but after a few minutes it drops again. it's connected to a vodafone 802 box with wlan n fix set. it seems that it works when i switch off n mode...but i need to test. can someone confirm or is there another solution? i have another machine with 12.04 (hp 625 laptop) running where connection is stable. any help much appreciated. thank chris

  I happened to use `netstat' program this morning.. And what I couldn't understand its results. The snap-shot of the results window is given below: Screen-shot is at http://s2.postimg.org/3zt058415/image.png ( I can't post images! :/ ) Can somebody explain me the last entry in the results, where I've pointed them with arrows? [1] I don't understand why `canonical' servers are connected with my computer even if I am not currently using anything that I would expect such a connection to exist. [2] Second, I don't see the PID/Program name of the Program which has made this connection. I would at-least expect a PID.
