  • Expression Web 4 - Master Page Error

    - by Eric J.
    I created an ASP.Net Web Application in VS 2010. That in turn creates an example Site.Master, Default.aspx, and several other example files. I then opened Default.aspx in Expression Web 4 and get the error message The Master Page file 'Site.Master' cannot be loaded. Default.aspx can still be displayed fine in VS 2010. Source.Master: <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Site.master.cs" Inherits="SampleWebApp.SiteMaster" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <link href="~/Styles/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="HeadContent" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> <style type="text/css"> .style1 { font-family: Tunga; } </style> </head> <body> <form runat="server"> <div class="page"> <div class="header"> <div class="title"> <h1 class="style1"> My Application Master Page</h1> </div> <div class="loginDisplay"> <asp:LoginView ID="HeadLoginView" runat="server" EnableViewState="false"> <AnonymousTemplate> [ <a href="~/Account/Login.aspx" ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server">Log In</a> ] </AnonymousTemplate> <LoggedInTemplate> Welcome <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="HeadLoginName" runat="server" /></span>! • doofus ASP.Net master page scrollbar question

    - by Stephen Falken
    Like happens to all of us sometimes, I inherited some crappy code I have to fix. We need to center our pages on widescreen machines, so we have a master page layout div like so: .MasterLayout { width:1100px; height: 100%; position:absolute; left:50%; margin-left:-550px; vertical-align:top; } I removed most of the detailed attributes for readability here, but here's how the table for the master page is laid out: <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width: 100%;"> <tr> <td style="width: 100%" align="center" colspan="2"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" style="height: 20px; background-color: #333;"> <asp:SiteMapPath/> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 86px; height: 650px; background-color: #B5C7DE; margin: 6px;" valign="top"> <asp:Menu /> <asp:SiteMapDataSource /> </td> <td style="background-color:#ffffff; margin:5px; width:1000px;" valign="top"> <asp:contentplaceholder id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server"/> </td> </tr> </table> When resizing the browser window, the horizontal scrollbar only reaches as far as the left edge of the <asp:contentplaceholder/> control, and the <asp:menu/> that's in the 86px wide <td> is hidden. How can I fix this problem? THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • Stop Master page refreshing while navigating between pages?

    - by Wael Dalloul
I'm using Master Page in my ASP.net application, in the master page I put a ContentPlaceHolder in Update Panel to support AJAX in child pages, the question is how to stop Refreshing "master page controls" while navigating between pages? For navigation between pages I tried to use Response.Redirect, windows.location java script with no success, shall I use the Frames or IFrames instead of Master Pages to stop Refreshing? any suggestion to solve this issue will be highly appreciated, Thanks in advance...

  • Menu Control in Master Page fails to use CSS styles

    - by Shaun
I'm working on a web application that uses ASP.NET 3.5 and C#. Structurally, I have a master page with a menu control on it. The control serves as my navigation, and it gets its items from a SiteMapDataSource control and a corresponding Web.sitemap file. The problem is that some styles do not render properly when you specify the CssClass property. More specifically, the selected and hover styles don't respond to css styles. Consider the code below: <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Site.master.cs" Inherits="Site" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.or/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title>A webpage</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="page"> <asp:Menu ID="navMenu" Orientation="Horizontal" StaticMenuStyle-CssClass="staticMenu" StaticMenuItemStyle-CssClass="staticMenuItem" StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass="staticSelectedItem" StaticHoverStyle-CssClass="staticHoverItem" runat="server"> </asp:Menu> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="srcSiteMap" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="false" /> <br /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </div> </form> </body> </html> Suppose I had a corresponding .css file with the following: .staticMenuItem { background-color:Red; } .staticSelectedItem { background-color:Green; } .staticHoverItem { background-color:Blue; } What will happen is that my item backgrounds will properly be red, but my selected item will not be green and the item I'm hovering my mouse over will not be blue. This seems true regardless of whether or not I include the style in the head of the master page or in an external file in default theme as specified in the web.config file. If I specify the styles in the asp.net xml like so: <asp:Menu ID="navMenu" Orientation="Horizontal" runat="server"> <StaticSelectedStyle BackColor="Green" Font-Underline="True" Font-Bold="True" /> <StaticHoverStyle BackColor="Gray" /> </asp:Menu> It appears to work properly in Firefox, but the style is never embedded in the html in Internet Explorer. Odd. Does anybody have any insight into what is causing this problem and how to neatly work around it? I'm aware I might be able to programmically determine the current page and select the corresponding menu item manually so it receives the proper style class, but before I resort to hacking C# and Javascript together to fix this functionality, I'm open to ideas.

  • IE7 doesn't render part of page until the window resizes or switch between tabs

    - by BlackMael
I have a problem with IE7. I have a fixed layout for keeping the header and a sidepanel fixed on a page leaving only the "main content" area switch can happily scroll it's content. This layout works perfectly fine for IE6 and IE8, but sometimes one page may start "hiding" the content that should be showing in the "main content" area. The page finishes loading just fine. For a split second IE7 will render the main content just fine and then it will immediately hide it from view.. somewhere.. It would also seem that it only experiences this problem when there is enough content to force the "main content" area to scroll. By resizing the window or switching to another open tab and back again will cause IE7 to show the page as it was intended. Note the same problem does occur with IE8 in compatibility mode, but the page is rendered correctly in IE8 mode. If need be I can attach the basic CSS styling I use, but I first want to see if this is a known issue with IE7. Does IE7 have issues with positioned layout and overflow scrolling that is sometimes likes to forgot to finish rendering the page correctly until some window redraw event forces to finish rendering? Please remember, this exact same layout is used across multiple pages in the site as it is set up in a master page. It is just (in this case) one page that is experiencing this problem. Other pages with the exact same layout do render correctly. Even if the main content is full enough to also scroll. UPDATE: A related question which doesn't have an answer at this point. LATE UPDATE: Adding example masterpage and css Please note this same layout is the same for all the pages in the application. My problem with IE7 only occurs on one such page. All other pages have happily render correctly in IE7. Just one page, using the exact same layout, has issues where it sometimes hides the content in the "work-space" div. The master page <%@ Master Language="VB" CodeFile="MasterPage.master.vb" Inherits="shared_templates_MasterPage" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="~/common/yui/2.7.0/build/reset-fonts/reset-fonts.css" runat="server" /> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="~/shared/css/layout.css" runat="server" /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="head" runat="server" /> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" /> <div id="app-header"> </div> <div id="side-panel"> </div> <div id="work-space"> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="WorkSpaceContentPlaceHolder" runat="server" /> </div> <div id="status-bar"> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="StatusBarContentPlaceHolder" runat="server" /> </div> </form> </body> </html> The layout.css html { overflow: hidden; } body { overflow: hidden; padding: 0; margin: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; background-color: white; } body, table, td, th, select, textarea, input { font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Sans-Serif; font-size: 9pt; } p { padding-left: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; } #app-header { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 80px; background-color: #dcdcdc; border-bottom: solid 4px #000; } #side-panel { position: absolute; top: 84px; left: 0px; bottom: 0px; overflow: auto; padding: 0; margin: 0; width: 227px; background-color: #AABCCA; border-right: solid 1px black; background-repeat: repeat-x; padding-top: 5px; } #work-space { position: absolute; top: 84px; left: 232px; right: 0px; padding: 0; margin: 0; bottom: 22px; overflow: auto; background-color: White; } #status-bar { position: absolute; height: 20px; left: 228px; right: 0px; padding: 0; margin: 0; bottom: 0px; border-top: solid 1px #c0c0c0; background-color: #f0f0f0; } The Default.aspx <%@ Page Title="Test" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/shared/templates/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %> <asp:Content ID="WorkspaceContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="WorkSpaceContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> Workspace <asp:ListView ID="DemoListView" runat="server" DataSourceID="DemoObjectDataSource" ItemPlaceholderID="DemoPlaceHolder"> <LayoutTemplate> <table style="border: 1px solid #a0a0a0; width: 600px"> <colgroup> <col width="80" /> <col /> <col width="80" /> <col width="120" /> </colgroup> <tbody> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="DemoPlaceHolder" runat="server" /> </tbody> </table> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <tr> <th><%#Eval("ID")%></th> <td><%#Eval("Name")%></td> <td><%#Eval("Size")%></td> <td><%#Eval("CreatedOn", "{0:yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss}")%></td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> </asp:ListView> <asp:ObjectDataSource ID="DemoObjectDataSource" runat="server" OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}" SelectMethod="GetData" TypeName="DemoLogic"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="path" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:ObjectDataSource> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="StatusContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="StatusBarContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> Ready OK. </asp:Content>

  • Soften a colour border, maybe with a gradient, programmatically.

    - by ProfK
    I have a narrow header in corporate colour, bright red, with the content below on a just-off-white background. Ive tried softening the long line where these colours meet using border type divs with intermediate backgrounds, but I think I need the original type curved gradient 'area transitions'. I could copy the 1024px wide, and too narrow (vertically), header gif from their web site, and chop it up for eight border images, but that seems clumsy, and I'm looking for something I can apply anywhere, without needing images. I am able to do round borders in the x-y plane, but I'm curious as to how I can apply a gradient to any chosen colour transition. The extra divs I'm using as border elements above and below '#top-section' arose when I was toying with making many divs for one bordered element. This seemed the ultimate in border manipulation, sans code, but very tedious to spec in CSS and lay out a new border for each bordered element. <div id="topsection"> <div style="float: right; width: 300px; padding-right: 5px;"> <div style="font-size: small; text-align: right;"> Provantage Media Management System</div> <div style="font-size: x-small; text-align: right;"> <asp:LoginStatus ID="loginStatus" runat="server" LoginText="Log in" LogoutText="Log out" /> </div> </div> <span style="padding-left: 15px;">Main Menu</span><span id="content-title"> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="titlePlaceHolder" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </span> <div style="background-color: white; height: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: white; height: 3px;"></div> And the CSS: #topsection { background-color: #EB2728; color: white; height: 35px; font-size: large; font-weight: bold; }

  • Google Maps API 3 How to call initialize without putting it in Body onload

    - by Bex
Hi I am using the google maps API and have copied the examples and have ended up with a function called "initialize" that is called from the body onload. I am using the maps in a few different user controls, which are placed within content place holders, so the body tag is in the master page. Is there a way of calling initialize directly in the usercontrol rather than having to place an onload on the masterpage? Ideally I want my user control to be a stand alone control that I can just slot into pages without trying to access the master page body onload. I have tried calling the Initialize function from my page load of the user control (by adding a start up script), but the map doesn't appear. Any suggestions? My code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false">/script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var map; var geocoder; function initialize() { geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(51.8052184317649, -4.965819906250006); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/GoogleMapsService.asmx/GetPointers", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", beforeSend: function () { $(".loadingData").html("<p>Loading data..</p>"); }, complete: function () { $(".loadingData").html(""); }, cache: true, success: mapPoints, error: onError }); } function onError(xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError) { alert(xhr.status); alert(xhr.responseText); } function mapPoints(response) { if (response.d != null) { if (response.d.length > 0) { for (var i = 0; i < response.d.length; i++) { plotOnMap(response.d[i].Id, response.d[i].Name, response.d[i].Lat, response.d[i].Long, response.d[i].ShortDesc) } } } } and on my test master page: <body onload="initialize()"> <form runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true"></asp:ScriptManager> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="MainContent" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </form> </body>

  • Using C# FindControl to find a user-control in the master page

    - by Jisaak
So all I want to do is simply find a user control I load based on a drop down selection. I have the user control added but now I'm trying to find the control so I can access a couple properties off of it and I can't find the control for the life of me. I'm actually doing all of this in the master page and there is no code in the default.aspx page itself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Setting background image in asp.net (Master page)

    I'm new in asp.net. And I am having trouble setting my background image. Here's the master page source: <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Master.master.cs" Inherits="Master"%> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="scripts/style.css"/> <title>Tracker</title> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="head" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <div class="container"> <a href="#"><img src="images/cross-header.gif" alt="Insert Logo Here" width="100%" id="Insert_logo" style="background: #C6D580; display:block;" /></a> <div class="sidebar1"> <nav> <ul> <li><a href="#">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#">LINK</a></li> <li><a href="#">LINK</a></li> <li><a href="#"><span style="font-weight:italic">LINK</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span style="font-weight:italic">LINK</span></a></li> </ul> </nav> <p>SOME LABEL</p> <p>SOME QUOTE HERE</p> <p></p> </div> </div> <footer> <a href="#">LINK HERE</a> | <a href="#">LINK HERE</a> | <a href="contact.php">CONTACT</a> | <a href="register.php">REGISTER</a> | <a href="login.php">LOGIN</a> <address> Copyright 2012 @JRC </address> </footer> </div> </form> </body> </html> The image that I am trying to use is located at the folder image. • Razor – Hiding a Section in a Layout

    - by João Angelo
Layouts in Razor allow you to define placeholders named sections where content pages may insert custom content much like the ContentPlaceHolder available in ASPX master pages. When you define a section in a Razor layout it’s possible to specify if the section must be defined in every content page using the layout or if its definition is optional allowing a page not to provide any content for that section. For the latter case, it’s also possible using the IsSectionDefined method to render default content when a page does not define the section. However if you ever require to hide a given section from all pages based on some runtime condition you might be tempted to conditionally define it in the layout much like in the following code snippet. if(condition) { @RenderSection("ConditionalSection", false) } With this code you’ll hit an error as soon as any content page provides content for the section which makes sense since if a page inherits a layout then it should only define sections that are also defined in it. To workaround this scenario you have a couple of options. Make the given section optional with and move the condition that enables or disables it to every content page. This leads to code duplication and future pages may forget to only define the section based on that same condition. The other option is to conditionally define the section in the layout page using the following hack: @{ if(condition) { @RenderSection("ConditionalSection", false) } else { RenderSection("ConditionalSection", false).WriteTo(TextWriter.Null); } } Hack inspired by a recent stackoverflow question.

  • DualLayout for SharePoint 2010 WCM Quick Start

    - by svdoever
DualLayout for SharePoint 2010 WCM is a solution to provide you with complete HTML freedom in your SharePoint Server 2010 publishing pages. In this post I provide a quick start guide to get you up and running quickly so you can try it out for yourself. This quick start creates a simple HTML5 site with a page to show-case the basics and the power of DualLayout. We will create the site in its own web application. Normally there are many things you have to do to create a clean start point for your SharePoint 2010 WCM site. All those steps will be provided in later posts. For now we want to give you the minimal set of steps to take to get DualLayout working on your machine. Create an authenticated web application with hostheader cms.html5demo.local on port 80 for the cms side of the site. Click the Create Site Collection link on the Application Created dialog box and create a Site Collection based on the Publishing Portal site template. Before we can click the site link in the Top-Level Site Successfully Created dialog we need to add the new host header cms.html5demo.local to the hosts file. Add the following line to the hosts file: 127.0.0.1        cms.html5demo.local Navigate to the site at http://cms.html5demo.local to see the out-of-the-box example Adventure Works publishing site. Download and add the DualLayout solution package designfactory.duallayout.sps2010.trial.1.2.0.0.wsp to the farm’s solution store: On the Start menu, click All Programs. Click Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products. Click SharePoint 2010 Management Shell. At the Windows PowerShell command prompt, type the following command:Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath designfactory.duallayout.sps2010.trial.1.2.0.0.wsp In SharePoint 2010 Central Administration deploy the solution to the web application http://cms.html5demo.local. Navigate to the site at http://cms.html5demo.local, and in the Site Settings screen select Site Collection Administration > Site collection features and activate the following feature: Open the site http://cms.html5demo.local in SharePoint Designer 2010. Create a view-mode masterpage html5simple.master with the following code: html5simple.master <%@ Master language="C#" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SharePointWebControls" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="sdl" Namespace="DesignFactory.DualLayout" Assembly="DesignFactory.DualLayout, Version=1.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=077f92bbf864a536" %>   <!DOCTYPE html> <html class="no-js">       <head>         <meta charset="utf-8" />         <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" />         <title><SharePointWebControls:FieldValue FieldName="Title" runat="server"/></title>           <script type="text/javascript">             document.createElement('header');             document.createElement('nav');             document.createElement('article');             document.createElement('hgroup');             document.createElement('aside');             document.createElement('section');             document.createElement('footer');             document.createElement('figure');             document.createElement('time');         </script>           <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead" runat="server"/>     </head>          <body>                  <header>             <div class="logo">Logo</div>             <h1>SiteTitle</h1>             <nav>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 1</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 2</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 3</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 4</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 5</a>                 <sdl:SwitchToWcmModeLinkButton runat="server" Text="…"/>             </nav>             <div class="tagline">Tagline</div>             <form>                 <label>Zoek</label>                 <input type="text" placeholder="Voer een zoekterm in...">                 <button>Zoek</button>                             </form>           </header>                  <div class="content">             <div class="pageContent">                 <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server" />             </div>         </div>              <footer>             <nav>                 <ul>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 1</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 2</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 3</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 4</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 5</a></li>                 </ul>             </nav>             <small>Copyright &copy; 2011 Macaw</small>         </footer>     </body> </html> Note that if no specific WCM-mode master page is specified (html5simple-wcm.master), the default v4.master master page will be used in WCM-mode. • URL Navigation and SQL Insertion After RadioButtonList Selection

    - by SidC
Good Morning, I have a radiobuttonlist in my ASP.NET webforms application that is used as a voting tool. The concept is as follows: Users will vote for the blurb in the contentplaceholder using the radiobuttonlist. My list item values are 1 through 3 and my list item text is something like low, medium and high. Questions: 1. I want to save and accumulate votes for a given blurb. The blurb ID is referenced in a meta tag on the content page. How do I reference the meta tag in my SQL insert statement? 2. When the radiobuttonlist is used, can it cause the next content page to be loaded after the SQL insert is done? That is, I don't necessarily want the user to make the radiobuttonlist selection, then have to click a separate button to cast vote and move to next page. I want all that done in the radiobuttonlist. Is this possible? Thanks, Sid

  • Finding controls inside nested master pages

    - by evanmortland
I have a master page which is nested 2 levels. It has a master page, and that master page has a master page. When I stick controls in a ContentPlaceHolder with the name "bcr" - I have to find the controls like so: Label lblName =(Label)Master.Master.FindControl("bcr").FindControl("bcr").FindControl("Conditional1").FindControl("ctl03").FindControl("lblName"); Am I totally lost? Or is this how it needs to be done? I am about to work with a MultiView, which is inside of a conditional content control. So if I want to change the view I have to get a reference to that control right? Getting that reference is going to be even nastier! Is there a better way? Thanks

  • Refresh a control on the master page after postback

    - by Andreas
Hi all! What i am trying to do here is to show a couple of validation messages in form of a bulletlist, so i have a Div on my master page containing a asp:bulletlist. Like this: <div> <asp:BulletedList ID="blstValidationErrorMessage" runat="server" BulletStyle="Disc"> </asp:BulletedList> </div> When i then click the Save button from any of my pages (inside the main contentPlaceHolder) i create a list of messages and give this list as datasouce like this: blstValidationErrorMessage.DataSource = validationMessageCollection; blstValidationErrorMessage.DataBind(); The save button is located inside an updatepanel: asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Conditional" Nothing happens, i can see that the datasource of the bulletlist contains X items, the problems must arise because the Save button is inside an update panel and the elements outside this updatepanel (master page controls for example) is not refreshed. So my question is, how do i make the bulletlist refresh after the postback? Thanks in advance.
