  • Can I make my drives visible and change their partition type without losing my data?

    I have made a lot of mistakes and now I cannot see my hard disk nor I can start my operating system on my laptop. All my passwords and important files on my hdd without any backup. I followed this course of action Changed my hard disk partitions to dynamic just for getting 5th partition. (1st mistake) Decreased partitions to 4 again. Backed up operating system from 4th to 3rd partition with Norton Ghost. Booted from a live CD for Windows XP. Formatted 4th partition and moved my all important data from 1st and 2nd partitions to the 4th partition. Deleted 1st and 2nd partitions and got 1 partition from half of empty space. So I have just 3 partitions and empty space between 1st and 2nd partitions. Tried to install Windows 8 to the first partition but it did not allow because it is dynamic. Also it did not allow to install to other partitions. Tried to install Windows XP to the 1st partition but it said if I continue I cannot use other drivers. Therefore I escaped from installing it. Booted from the Windows XP live CD then increased 1st partiton to less than 400mb of empty space. Therefore I thought it will be adjacent but it was shown as 2 partitions. In my computer I see just 3 drivers. Using Norton Ghost I recovered my OS to the 1st partition. (2nd mistake it was on 4th partition originally) Booted from a Windows XP live CD I tried to install bcdedit to the Windows XP live CD but it did not work. Then I tried to install EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition. It was installed with errors then I start it and it showed me an error like there is no hard disk. I looked to my PC and my drivers were not there. Booted from the Norton Ghost CD and it did not show me my drivers either, but before I was able to see them. I checked numbers of partition shown by the Norton Ghost utility and they are still have same numbers so I have to see my drivers but I cannot see them now. My hard disk is shown as extarnal dynamic now so I cannot see any drive in my PC in the live Windows XP. There are two options; first one is import extarnal disk and second one is convert disk to basic. Will they delete my data? I fear booting from CDs like Windows XP live CD, Norton Ghost CD, and the operating system CD/DVD, because they may overwrite a few MB their data to my data. These recover tools are already exist in Windows XP live CD by The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. Can any of them help me?   • excel 2010 format and input issue

    I have completed a very complex Excel spreadsheet with a lot of equations, except ... I forgot to include September I have Jan through Dec, all the months, except the calculations for September. Of course all the equations are currently perfect for the data that's here. How do I add a whole new column without ruining the previous equations? PS: tomorrow is my holidays and I have to go to work to finish this table, so bad. would really appreciate some kind expertise :) cheers craig.

  • What should i expect on an online C++ test

    Hey guys, I don't know if this should be a regular question or maybe a wiki page. I just got a call back from an employer and he advised me i have made it through to the next round of interviews and would have to take an online C++ test through IKM (http://www.ikmnet.com/). Has anyone here got any advise as to what type of questions this test will ask, or has anyone got advise about what i should do a brush up on to do the best i could on this test.   • How do I get a .Net 4.0 app to coexist as an application under a SharePoint 2007 website in IIS v7?

    I have created a small .Net 4.0 website and installed it on my SharePoint server as a separate web site in IIS v7 (using port 8008 for now). I had to install the .Net 4 framework, set up the database, etc. and this all went smoothly and my app works as a standalone website. Now I am trying to get pages from my website to show up in SharePoint 2007. For various reasons (the SharePoint site is using SSL, security, etc.) I now need to move my .Net app to run under the SharePoint 2007 site in IIS. I have added it as an 'Application' and set it up with the same .Net v4 application pool and settings that were working when it was set up as a standalone site. Now when I try to access the application I get the error at the end of this description. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already tried following the instructions on this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/sgoodyear/archive/2007/05/07/custom-web-applications-coexisting-with-sharepoint-2007.aspx but that did not help. Thanks!     I'm trying to use the FolderBrowserDialog from my WPF application - nothing fancy. I don't much care that it has the Windows Forms look to it. However, when I call ShowDialog, I want to pass the owner window which is an IWin32Window. How do I get this from my WPF control? Actually, does it matter? If I run this code and use the ShowDialog overload with no parameters it works fine. Under what circumstances do I need to pass the owner window? Thanks, Craig

    Hi all, I've written a ASP.NET app that I hope to sell to businesses, I could host the trial but it's designed to connect to the customers data so customers will certainly want to install it to do a successful evaluation. I've never produced anything commercial before so I'm looking for advice on how best to limit the trial, a 30 day trial seems most common, do you simply rely on the clock of the PC/Server they install it on? Any other suggestions welcome, please keep in mind this is ASP.NET app so will be installed on their web server. Thanks Craig

  • Too Many Different Cell Formats

    I have a massive file with 10 sheets recreated from scratch, 12 sheets updated, 5 sheets loaded with raw data, and 7 sheets that are used by the macros for the report. I have recently added a new sheet and am running into the Excel "Too many different cell formats" problem. I have read some of the google search results and they say I should simplify the formatting, but I don't even know how I got up to 4000 distinct cell formats, let alone how much I'm using which ones, so I can remove some. It is also popping up some times the file is run, but not all, until such time as it comes up, and then it happens every time it is run. Since the macro is doing so much of the work, including creating the 10 sheets from scratch, I am not sure what to do. Does anyone know of a Macro I could run to get a listing of all the cell formats and how many cells are using them? Does anyone know of a program they trust to help remove excess cell formats?   • Silverlight WCF method calls fails if WCF service is not running initially

    Quite simply I have a generic Silverlight 3.0 web page that is calling a Ping method on a WCF service. I do not have the WCF service running initially when I navigate to this Silverlight page. As expected I get a communication exception when I press the Silverlight button to call the Ping method, which I catch. Now if I start the WCF service and press the Ping button I still get the communication exception. How come? The other scenario is the WCF is running when I navigate to the SL page and the Ping method call works. I turn off the WCF service, ping method fails. Turn it back on and the ping method succeeds. How come if it's not running initially the ping method fails always? I could include some sample code if you'd like but this is just a real simple Hello World example using basichttpbinding, straight out the book. Thanks, Craig

  • CrossPost access to data

    Hi, I have a search form on a page that posts back to itself and shows the results, all works fine. I now have a requirement to put the same search form on the site home page. This needs to post back to the search form and run the findResults code. Using the PostBackURL parameter on the home page form's submit button I can hit the search page ok. However, when using the following code in the Page_Load section of the search page I hit the problem of not being able to access data from the posting page as I get the following error message on the line starting "yearList.SelectedValue....": "'Site._default1.Protected WithEvents yearList As System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Protected'".   • SumProduct over sets of cells (not contiguous)

    I have a total data set that is for 4 different groupings. One of the values is the average time, the other is count. For the Total I have to multiply these and then divide by the total of the count. Currently I use: =SUM(D32*D2,D94*D64,D156*D126,D218*D188)/SUM(D32,D94,D156,D218) I would rather use a SumProduct if I can to make it more readable. I tried to do: =SUMPRODUCT((D2,D64,D126,D188),(D32,D94,D156,D218))/SUM(D32,94,D156,D218) But as you can tell by my posting here, that did not work. Is there a way to do SumProduct like I want? Thoughts, Answers, Questions, Comments? Craig

  • Android- Using DexClassLoader to load apk file.

    Hi guys, I've hit a bit of a wall. Any help would be appreciated. I have an app that I want to use DexClassLoader to load another apk file. Here is my code: DexClassLoader dLoader = new DexClassLoader("/sdcard/download/test.apk","/sdcard/download",null,ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getParent()); Class calledClass = dLoader.loadClass("com.test.classname"); Intent it=new Intent(this, calledClass); it.setClassName("com.test", "com.test.classname"); startActivity(it); Now I had already installed test.apk so when I ran the above code it worked fine and launched the application. However I want to be able to run this without test.apk being installed already (as that would defeat the entire point of the application) . So I uninstalled it and when I ran the my app again I get this error: android.content.ActivityNotFoundException: Unable to find explicit activity class {com.test/com.test.classname}; have you declared this activity in your AndroidManifest.xml. So I'm a bit stumped here. This activity is declared in the Manifest of the apk I am trying to run. I can't declare it in my applications Manifest. Any ideas? Thanks, Craig

  • Problem parsing an atom feed using simplexml_load_file(), can't get an attribute.

    Hi, I am trying to create a social timeline. I pull in feeds form certain places so I have a timeline of thing I have done. The problem I am having is with Google reader Shared Items. I want to get the time at which I shared the item which is contained in <entry gr:crawl-timestamp-msec="1269088723811"> Trying to get the element using $date = $xml->entry[$i]->link->attributes()->gr:crawl-timestamp-msec; fails because of the : after gr which causes a PHP error.   • Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

    I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so?   • Old desktop programmer wants to create S+S project

    I have an idea for a product that I want to be web-based. But because I live in Brasil, the internet is not always available so there needs to be a desktop component that is available for when the internet is down. Also, I have been a SQL programmer, a desktop application programmer using dBase, VB and Pascal, and I have created simple websites using HTML and website creation tools, such as Frontpage. So from my research, I think I have the following options; PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python or .NET for the programming side. MySQL for the DB. And Apache, or possibly IIS, for the webserver. I will probably start with a local ISP provider for the cloud servce. But then maybe move to something more "robust" and universal in the future, ie. Amazon, or Azure, or something along that line. My question then is this. What would you recommend for something like this? I'm sure that I have not listed all of the possibilities, but the ones I have researched and thought of.   • C: 8x8 -> 16 bit multiply precision guaranteed by integer promotions?

    I'm trying to figure out if the C Standard (C90, though I'm working off Derek Jones' annotated C99 book) guarantees that I will not lose precision multiplying two unsigned 8-bit values and storing to a 16-bit result. An example statement is as follows: unsigned char foo; unsigned int foo_u16 = foo * 10; Our Keil 8051 compiler (v7.50 at present) will generate a MUL AB instruction which stores the MSB in the B register and the LSB in the accumulator. If I cast foo to a unsigned int first: unsigned int foo_u16 = (unsigned int)foo * 10; then the compiler correctly decides I want a unsigned int there and generates an expensive call to a 16x16 bit integer multiply routine. I would like to argue beyond reasonable doubt that this defensive measure is not necessary. As I read the integer promotions described in 6.3.1.1, the effect of the first line shall be as if foo and 10 were promoted to unsigned int, the multiplication performed, and the result stored as unsigned int in foo_u16. If the compiler knows an instruction that does 8x8-16 bit multiplications without loss of precision, so much the better; but the precision is guaranteed. Am I reading this correctly? What I want to be able to do is to read in a list of arbitrary length of custom objects defined as: public class TextFileInfo { public string Name { get; set; } public string TextFilePath { get; set; } public string XmlFilePath { get; set; } } I managed to replicate Craig's solution for one custom object but what if I want several?     Several organisations I know use SMART goals for their programmers. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound. They are fairly common in large corporations. My own prior experience with SMART goals has not been all that positive. Have other programmers found them an effective way to measure performance? What are some examples of good SMART goals for programmers (if they exist).

  • Collision detection with multiple polygons simultaneously

    I've written a collision system which detects/resolves collisions between a rectangular player and a convex polygon world using the Separating Axis Theorem. This scheme works fine when the player is colliding with a single polygon, but when I try to create a level made up of combinations of these shapes, the player gets "stuck" between shapes when trying to move from one polygon to the other. The reason for this seems to be that collisions are detected after the player has been pushed through the shape by its movement or gravity. When the system resolves the collision, it resolves them in an order that doesn't make sense (for example, when the player is moving from one flat rectangle to another, gravity pushes them below the ground, but the collision with the left hand side of the second block is resolved before the collision with the top of the block, meaning the player is pushed back left before being pushed back up). Other similar posts have resolved this problem by having a strict rule on which axes to resolve first. For example, always resolve the collision on the y axis, then if the object is still colliding with things, resolve on the x axis. This solution only works in the case of a completely axis oriented box world, and doesn't solve the problem if the player is stuck moving along a series of angled shapes or sliding down a wall. Does any one have any ideas of how I could alter my collision system to prevent these situations from happening?
