As of July 10, 2012, Stack Overflow contains 3,345,864 questions, out of which 20,840 questions are tagged as "Algorithm" - this is less than 0.6% !
I find it disturbing. Many programmers have several years of academic education in computer science / software engineering. Most of them are smart... When asked, most would say that they love algorithms.
Computer programming is generally about solving problems using algorithms... Yet, only 1 of 160 questions is tagged as algorithm related.
What does it say about our profession?
