• Can't change folder background

  I tried to change via dragging from the Backgrounds and Emblems window, but the icon just goes back to that window rather than changing the folder background.However, I can change the task bar by this drag-n-drop. Probably it is something about changing ownership permission? if so how to change that? • Difference between ~/folder and /home/username/folder when creating a path in /etc/environment

  I had an executable script on my ubuntu located on ~/project/ directory and I tried to add that path to /etc/environment . So , I edit the path to this PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:~/project/" . Then , I logout and login back , open the terminal as su and run the command to execute my script on that folder but the result is command not found. Then, I change the path in /etc/environment to PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/home/r0xx4nne/project/" and voila it works.Now i can run the executable script inside ~/project/ without fail under su command. My question is , what's the difference between ~/project and /home/r0xx4nne/project when it comes in case of creating a path in /etc/environment ? Why it happened to be like this? I am a newbie and I just want to know more . Thanks for any reply .

  We have a website on a secondary server that we want this website to be accessible from Internet, with www.mywebsite.com. In the domain name provider of www.mywebsite.com, we set our 2 dns names, dns1.company.ch, dns2.company.ch and our static ip address. System is set as following: MS Server 2008 R2 N°1: Main server, in AD With IP 192.168.1.100 With DNS zone dns1.company.ch With DNS secondary zone from server N°2: dns2.company.ch With DNS secondary zone from server N°2: mywebsite.com (zone transfer is on) MS Server 2008 R2 N°2: Secondary server, not in AD With IP 192.168.1.101 With DNS zone dns2.company.ch With DNS zone mywebsite.com with host: 192.168.1.101 With the website under ISS with bindings www.mywebsite.com:80, mywebsite.com:80 All traffics for ports 80 (http) and 53 (dns) from Internet goes to server N°1. How can we redirect all traffics for www.mywebsite.com from Internet to our secondary server so the corresponding website can be displayed in Internet ? Note: Under DNS of server N°1, we tried to use also a conditional redirector mywebsite.com (192.168.0.101), but it was working only for intranet. Thank you, Alain

• Urgent SSH Local Port Redirection

  Hi, everyone. I have a shell account but the admin has restricted ssh access to the server. The server is listening on 0.0.0.0:22 but the firewall blocks any incoming attempts to this port. He says he is doing maintenance but I don't believe him and I need to backup my stuff with ssh. My question is that: Is it possible to do this: Me (Wan IP) <- Hosting Server (tcp/8080) redirects to Hosting Server (tcp/22) I don't want to involve my own linux machine in this and I can only make use of ssh.. Important to understand that the print failure only happens in certain circumstances: Note: We use a standard Windows printer selection box to choose the printer Terms used Superbase = a program language that uses ntvdm.exe (Windows process hosting 16 bit apps) Local Printer = printing to a driver loaded onto the Server 2008 Redirect Printer = printing to a automatically established remote printer through an RDP connection Printing Scenarios Server 2008 - 1: Print from notepad to a Redirected Printer = works Server 2008 - 2: Print from Superbase to a Local Printer = works Server 2008 - 3: Print from Superbase to a Redirected Printer = fail Server 2003 - 4: Print from Superbase to a Redirected Printer = works Results The print causes a message in the drivers print queue of Local Downlevel Document, no print though and Superbase recognises that the "Print command failed". Eventvwr has no related issues to the print fail Any help greatly appreciated. So far 2 days spent trying to resolve and here goes my weekend :( unless someone has an idea :) Things I have Tried i. • Folder Redirection won't load on Windows 7 Machine in Windows 2008 R2 Network

  Okay so redirected profiles don't load exactly, but the computer is joined to the network and it won't display any of the users files on their desktop that are in their redirected profile. I know this because we have a Terminal Server and when the user logs in there, her files appear. I checked the users' profile in Active Directory Users and Computers and compared it with a working users profile. When that didn't turn up any differences, I looked at her computer and found that on the Dial-in tab the Network Access Permission wasn't set to Control access through NPS Network Policy like it was on the other machines on the network; so I selected it, ran gpupdate /force on her machine and rebooted. This did not fix the issue. Is there anything else that could be preventing the redirected files on the users desktop from showing up when the user logs in?

When I click a link, the link is something like: a.com/something/blah.php Then moments later the url in the browser changes to something like: a.com/somethingelse/blahblah.php Is there a way with any browser (especially firefox) to have it ask me before redirecting? I have tried the 'ask me before redirecting' feature in firefox but in this case since it redirects to its own site it does not seem to work.

• I/O redirection using cygwin and mingw

  I have written a program in C and have compiled it using MinGW. When I try to run that program in Cygwin, it seems to behave normally (i.e. prints correct output etc.) However, I'm trying to pipe output to a program so that I can parse information from the program's output. However, the piping does not seem to be working in that I am not getting any input into the second program. I have confirmed this by using the following commands: This command seems to work fine: ./prog Performing this command returns nothing: ./prog | cat This command verifies the first: ./prog | wc Which returns: 0 0 0 I know that the script (including the piping from the program) works perfectly fine in an all Linux environment. Does anyone have any idea for why the piping isn't working in Cygwin? Thanks!

  Is it possible to specify a Search Folder in Outlook 2007 that will use an OR rule ("any") instead of an AND rule ("and")? In particular, I have a search folder named A and another named B; I want a search folder named AB that will have all the messages that are in either A or B, or both. When I specify AB with the rules "In Folder is A exactly" and "In Folder is B exactly", I get an empty folder, possibly because at the moment no messages are in both. Is the workaround to rename "A" to "A workaround" and "B" to "B workaround" and then specify "AB" with the rule "In Folder contains workaround"? Urggh.

  I would like to apply a folder template to a number of folders. I selected the folders, opened the properties, selected the folder template (e. g. Music Details) and clicked OK. When I checked the folders I noticed that the template was only applied to the folder I performed the right click to open the properties on. The other folders remained untouched. I can't apply the template to the parent folder and use the "Also apply this template to all subfolders" option because the template should only be applied to specific folders and not all. Going over each folder in not an option because it's a large amount of folders. Is it possible to apply a folder template to more than one selected folder at a time?

  I'm trying to delete a folder in Windows 7 and get a perplexing error message: "Could not find this item: This is no longer located in G:\Graphics. Verify the item's location and try again. I can see the folder -- I can find it. I just can't delete it. I also get a second error message (sometimes) when I click on the folder: G:\Graphics 2009-11-17 refers to a location that is unavailable...this information might have been moved to a different location. I'm using Windows 7; this folder is on an external hard drive. I've emptied the folder (there were items in it); I've scanned that external hard drive for errors. Trying to rename the folder yields the same enigmatic error message. Is there a way to delete this folder?

• Replacing files in a folder structure with files from an unsorted folder

  I have over 50,000 PDFs organized into folders in a file called PDFACT. I needed to compress these files so I ran them through Adobe to batch compress them and this worked—except Adobe could only output the files without their folder structure. So basically I have 50,000 PDFs set up in a folder with hundreds of subfolders, and everything was organized. I ended up with one folder with 50,000 compressed PDFs in it, just in alphabetical order. Somehow I need to replace all the orginal PDFs with their compressed copies. Let me give an example: In the folder PDFACT we have the following file: C:\PDFACT\BIG DINNER\BILL\NEWESTBILL.PDF … and in the output folder that Adobe created we have just: C:\COMPRESSED_PDF_FOLDER\NEWESTBILL.PDF This copy is smaller then the one in PDFACT and has the same name but it is just lumped in with every other PDF. The folder structure and subfolders are gone. Is there any way to replace all the larger uncompressed PDFS inside the orginal folder structure with their now compressed counterparts?

• User unable to delete folder / files "File in use by another user" Server 2003

  I am administering a standalone Windows 2003 Terminal Server with no domain membership. Occasionally (about once a week or so) a user will attempt to delete a sub-folder in a Shared folder and gets denied with "File in use by another user". I tried checking the shared folder snap-in and that folder is not open. She has full control and is the owner of the folder as well. I even checked in "Effective permissions" for some of the folders / files she cant delete and she truly has full control. I am able to delete the folder as Administrator with no problem. Another odd thing, she can delete the files IN the folder most of the time (this issue happens on both folders and files in the share). Sometimes merely waiting a day or two will allow her to delete the folder or files. I am curious as to why she gets the message that it is in use as creator/owner with full control yet I don't get it simply as a member of the Admin group. If anyone out there has any ideas I'd love to hear them! THANK YOU.

• Windows 8 folder to folder sync software

  I'm looking for direct folder to folder synchronization in Windows 8. I was previously using Live Mesh to accomplish this, but now it looks like that is no longer an option. Note that I'm talking about direct folder to folder sync between different computers, not syncing to the cloud. I'm aware of products like Google Drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox, etc. The problem with them is the space limitation. Basically, I was syncing important files before between my desktop and all of my laptops. One folder for example is My Pictures. This folder has almost 40 gigs of files, which is why the options listed above are not going to work for me. Just need direct syncing, nothing stored on the cloud. I was told by a Microsoft employee that SkyDrive would be replacing Mesh and would provide all the same functionality. So far this looks to be completely false, since the ability to remote desktop is gone along with folder to folder sync. Unless I'm just missing something?

When I save new icons in this folder from web, I drag and drop them from browser (chrome) to the folder. The problem is after that the icons in the folder are not sorted by date modified descending any more...   When I access my itunes folder in "my music" I see most but not all artist folders, when I access any of them I get "this folder is empty", When in Itunes all music plays and if I right click on a song and click show in folder I can see my full Itunes folder, so far I have done two system restores, scan disk, windows memory scan, defrag and tried ifixit. nothing has worked, I dont understand how I can see two different folders at the same address. Also have checked hidden files settings.
