• Group variables in a boxplot in R

  I am trying to generate a boxplot whose data come from two scenarios. In the plot, I would like to group boxes by their names (So there will be two boxes per variable). I know ggplot would be a good choice. But I got errors which I could not figure out. • Parsing log files in a folder in ColdFusion

  The problem is there is a folder ./log/ containing the files like: jan2010.xml, feb2010.xml, mar2010.xml, jan2009.xml, feb2009.xml, mar2009.xml ... each xml file would like: <root><record name="bob" spend="20"></record>...(more records)</root> I want to write a piece of ColdFusion code (log.cfm) that simply parsing those xml files. For the front end I would let user to choose a year, then the click submit button. All the content in that year will be show up in separate table by month. Each table shows the total money spent for each person. like: person cost bob 200 mike 300 Total 500 Thanks.

• My multithread program works slowly or appear deadlock on dual core machine, please help

  I have a program with several threads, one thread will change a global when it exits itself and the other thread will repeatedly poll the global. No any protection on the globals. The program works fine on uni-processor. On dual core machine, it works for a while and then halt either on Sleep(0) or SuspendThread(). Would anyone be able to help me out on this?   Need some compact code for counting how many lines in a string. It should be Java Code. And the string is separated by \r or \n will be considered as a separate line. • Using thread inter-communication to increase my server app's IO throughput; not sure how

  My server application creates a new thread for each incoming connection. Incoming requests are serialized in a BlockingQueue. There is one worker thread taking items from the queue, produce a response and send the response through socket. I have noticed a throughput issue: Currently, worker thread is responsible of sending the response message through socket, thus severely wasting processing power and throughput. I am considering: rather than sending the response itself, why not telling network IO threads to send the response? However, when I think about thread inter-communication, I cannot yet figure out how to approach it: Worker thread will produce a response, but how will it inform the response message to IO thread? Is there a standard/best practice? Thank you.

The version is Opencv 2.0. • zip -j command, what does the -j option mean?

  Wondering what is the -j option mean in the zip command. I found the explanation as following: -j Store just the name of a saved file (junk the path), and do not store directory names. By default, zip will store the full path (relative to the current path). But not quite sure what it is exact mean? Can anyone explain it using the following command as an example?   Finally I accomplished to cache dynamic images, css, and javascript files using HTTP headers BUT I have a problem now: I have specific dynamic images that are equal but has different URL's. For example: http://example.com/image/src/the-same-image.jpg http://example.com/image/custom/src/the-same-image2.jpg 1 and 2 has the same file content but different URL. This is a problem now because the navigator assumes that the file are different and need to be cached (due to the URL), when the real cached file is only one. I have the possibility to know if the file at the URL's are the same. How I can use the headers to indicate in the Response that possibility, and the navigator will cache only one file?

  I heavily rely on Opera's speed dial and password management features. Lack of these two features is really stopping me from switching to another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Opera's password management has two unique characteristics which I rely on heavily: It saves passwords on all pages, (apparently) despite the page's meta data asking not to save passwords. It offers keyboard shortcut and button to automatically fill in username/passwords and all other fields in a login form, then automatically submit the form. The deck model has a list of card model, According to MVC, if I want to send a card to a deck, I can add the card model to the deck model, and the card view will be added to the deck view by a event handler. I placed a breakpoint at the start of the onCreate() method but I discovered it didn't even reach there. Somehow, the application just couldn't be loaded in Android 2.2... but it works perfectly fine for all the previous Android versions.   i have the following problem. The 1st step is to implement a program, which follows a specific protocol on startup. Therefore, functions as onInit, onConfigRequest, etc. will be necessary. (These are triggered e.g. by incoming message on a TCP Port) My goal is to generate a class for example abstract one, which has abstract functions as onInit(), etc. A programmer should just inherit from this base class and should merely override these abstract functions of the base class. The rest as of the protocol e.g. should be simply handled in the background (using the code of the base class) and should not need to appear in the programmers code. What is the correct design strategy for such tasks? and how do I deal with, that the static main method is not inheritable? What are the key-tags for this problem? (I have problem searching for a solution since I lack clear statements on this problem) Goal is to create some sort of library/class, which - included in ones code - results in executables following the protocol. EDIT (new explanation): Okay let me try to explain more detailled: In this case programs should be clients within a client server architecture. We have a client server connection via TCP/IP. Each program needs to follow a specific protocol upon program start: As soon as my program starts and gets connected to the server it will receive an Init Message (TcpClient), when this happens it should trigger the function onInit(). (Should this be implemented by an event system?) After onInit() a acknowledgement message should be sent to the server. Afterwards there are some other steps as e.g. a config message from the server which triggers an onConfig and so on. Let's concentrate on the onInit function. The idea is, that onInit (and onConfig and so on) should be the only functions the programmer should edit while the overall protocol messaging is hidden for him. Therefore, I thought using an abstract class with the abstract methods onInit(), onConfig() in it should be the right thing. The static Main class I would like to hide, since within it e.g. there will be some part which connects to the tcp port, which reacts on the Init Message and which will call the onInit function. 2 problems here: 1. the static main class cant be inherited, isn it? 2. I cannot call abstract functions from the main class in the abstract master class. Let me give an Pseudo-example for my ideas: public abstract class MasterClass { static void Main(string[] args){ 1. open TCP connection 2. waiting for Init Message from server 3. onInit(); 4. Send Acknowledgement, that Init Routine has ended successfully 5. waiting for Config message from server 6..... } public abstract void onInit(); public abstract void onConfig(); } I hope you get the idea now! The programmer should afterwards inherit from this masterclass and merely need to edit the functions onInit and so on. Is this way possible? How? What else do you recommend for solving this? • CAN Controller DLL with Java Application. Unable to open CAN port.

  I am creating a Java application that controls a Controller Area Network (CAN) controller via a vendor-supplied can.dll file. can.dll contains a function bool openPort(DWORD memAddr) that allows the application to establish connection with the CAN controller. I wrote a C++ test application, loaded can.dll via LoadLibrary and found this function to be working as it should, i.e. it returns true. However, in my Java application, calling this via JNI or JNA returns false. I hope someone can help me with this problem as I have been trying to fix this problem for more than a week. Thanks :) JL

• Desktop PC Raid 5 or JBOD?

  I have a desktop PC and I want to get alot of space for movies, music, and pictures. I probably will not be deleting files. I am running Windows 7 on my system. It is kind of silly I just want the physical drives to be labeled as a single letter drive. And probably map my video, documents, pictures and music on that single drive. The main reason I considered RAID 5 because I would be lazy to get the data I lost and hopefully that if I get a new drive, it would rebuild it. So my question is which would be better? A second question is can I get RAID card that has only 2 internal connectors and still do RAID 5? or do I have to get a RAID card that has 4 internal connectors.
