  • SubSonic isn't generating MySql foreign key tables

    - by keith
    I two tables within a MySql 5.1.34 database. When using SubSonic to generate the DAL, the foreign-key relationship doesn't get scripted, ie; I have no Parent.ChildCollection object. Looking inside the generated DAL Parent class shows the following; //no foreign key tables defined (0) I have tried SubSonic 2.1 and 2.2, and various MySql 5 versions. I must be doing something wrong procedurally - any help would be greatly appreciated. This has always just worked 'out-the-box' when using MS-SQL. TABLE `parent` ( `ParentId` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `SomeData` VARCHAR(25) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ParentId`) ) ENGINE=INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; TABLE `child` ( `ChildId` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `ParentId` INT(11) NOT NULL, `SomeData` VARCHAR(25) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ChildId`), KEY `FK_child` (`ParentId`), CONSTRAINT `FK_child` FOREIGN KEY (`ParentId`) REFERENCES `parent` (`ParentId`) ) ENGINE=INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

  • Select rows where column LIKE dictionary word

    - by Gerve
    I have 2 tables: Dictionary - Contains roughly 36,000 words CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `dictionary` ( `word` varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`word`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; Datas - Contains roughly 100,000 rows CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `datas` ( `ID` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `hash` varchar(32) NOT NULL, `data` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `length` int(11) NOT NULL, `time` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ID`), UNIQUE KEY `hash` (`hash`), KEY `data` (`data`), KEY `length` (`length`), KEY `time` (`time`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=105316 ; I would like to somehow select all the rows from datas where the column data contains 1 or more words. I understand this is a big ask, it would need to match all of these rows together in every combination possible, so it needs the best optimization. I have tried the below query, but it just hangs for ages: SELECT `datas`.*, `dictionary`.`word` FROM `datas`, `dictionary` WHERE `datas`.`data` LIKE CONCAT('%', `dictionary`.`word`, '%') AND LENGTH(`dictionary`.`word`) > 3 ORDER BY `length` ASC LIMIT 15 I have also tried something similar to the above with a left join, and on clause that specified the like statement.

  • Problem with joining to an empty table

    - by Imran Omar Bukhsh
    I use the following query: select * from A LEFT JOIN B on ( A.t_id != B.t_id) to get all the records in A that are not in B. The results are fine except when table B is completely empty, but then I do not get any records, even from table A. Later It wont work yet! CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS T1 ( id int(11) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, title varchar(50) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, t_id int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=3 ; -- -- Dumping data for table T1 INSERT INTO T1 (id, title, t_id) VALUES (1, 'apple', 1), (2, 'orange', 2); -- -- Table structure for table T2 CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS T2 ( id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, title varchar(50) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, t_id int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2 ; -- -- Dumping data for table T2 INSERT INTO T2 (id, title, t_id) VALUES (1, 'dad', 2); Now I want to get all records in T1 that do not have a corresponding records in T2 I try SELECT * FROM T1 LEFT OUTER JOIN T2 ON T1.t_id != T2.t_id and it won't work

  • mysql codeigniter active record m:m deletion

    - by sea_1987
    Hi There, I have a table 2 tables that have a m:m relationship, what I can wanting is that when I delete a row from one of the tables I want the row in the joining table to be deleted as well, my sql is as follow, Table 1 CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `job_feed` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `body` text NOT NULL, `date_posted` int(10) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=3 ; Table 2 CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `job_feed_has_employer_details` ( `job_feed_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `employer_details_id` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`job_feed_id`,`employer_details_id`), KEY `fk_job_feed_has_employer_details_job_feed1` (`job_feed_id`), KEY `fk_job_feed_has_employer_details_employer_details1` (`employer_details_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; So what I am wanting to do is, if the a row is deleted from table1 and has an id of 1 I want the row in table to that also has that idea as part of the relationship also. I want to do this in keeping with codeigniters active record class I currently have this, public function deleteJobFeed($feed_id) { $this->db->where('id', $feed_id) ->delete('job_feed'); return $feed_id; }

  • Can MySQL automatically specify `_utf8` for inserts to UTF-8 columns?

    - by Neil
    I have a table like this, where one column is latin1, the other is UTF-8: Create Table: CREATE TABLE `names` ( `name_english` varchar(255) character NOT NULL, `name_chinese` varchar(255) character set utf8 default NULL, ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 When I do an insert, I have to type _utf8 before values being inserted into UTF-8 columns: insert into names (name_english = "hooey", name_chinese = _utf8 "??"); However, since MySQL should know that name_chinese is a UTF-8 column, it should be able to know to use _utf8 automatically. Is there any way to tell MySQL to use _utf8 automatically, so when I'm programatically making prepared statements, I don't have to worry about including it with the right parameters?

  • Outer select column value in joined subquery?

    - by Michael DePetrillo
    Is it possible to use a column value from an outer select within a joined subquery? SELECT table1.id, table2.cnt FROM table1 LEFT JOIN (SELECT COUNT(*) as `cnt` FROM table2 where table2.lt > table1.lt and table2.rt < table1.rt) as table2 ON 1; This results in "Unknown column 'table1.lt' in 'where clause'". • MODx character encoding

    - by Piet
    Ahhh character encodings. Don’t you just love them? Having character issues in MODx? Then probably the MODx manager character encoding, the character encoding of the site itself, your database’s character encoding, or the encoding MODx/php uses to talk to MySQL isn’t correct. The Website Encoding Your MODx site’s character encoding can be configured in the manager under Tools/Configuration/Site/Character encoding. This is the encoding your website’s visitors will get. The Manager’s Encoding The manager’s encoding can be changed by setting $modx_manager_charset at manager/includes/lang/<language>.inc.php like this (for example): $modx_manager_charset = 'iso-8859-1'; To find out what language you’re using (and thus was file you need to change), check Tools/Configuration/Site/Language (1 line above the character encoding setting). This needs to be the same encoding as your site. You can’t have your manager in utf8 and your site in iso-8859-1. Your Database’s Encoding The charset MODx/php uses to talk to your database can be set by changing $database_connection_charset in manager/includes/config.inc.php. This needs to be the same as your database’s charset. Make sure you use the correct corresponding charset, for iso-8859-1 you need to use ‘latin1′. Utf8 is just utf8. Example: $database_connection_charset = 'latin1'; Now, if you check Reports/System info, the ‘Database Charset’ might say something else. This is because the mysql variable ‘character_set_database’ is displayed here, which contains the character set used by the default database and not the one for the current database/connection. However, if you’d change this to display ‘character_set_connection’, it could still say something else because the ’set character set’ statement used by MODx doesn’t change this value either. The ’set names’ statement does, but since it turns out my MODx install works now as expected I’ll just leave it at this before I get a headache. If I saved you a potential headache or you think I’m totally wrong or overlooked something, let me know in the comments. btw: I want to be able to use a real editor with MODx. Somehow.

  • MySQL Config on Large Machine

    - by Jonathon
    We have a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server (64bit) running only MySQL 5.1.45 64-bit. It has 16G RAM and 10T of hard-drive space in RAID 10. We are having horrible performance from mysqld (85-100% CPU utilization). We were running a smaller machine with better performance, so I am assuming our my.ini file is not correct for our current machine. The my.ini file is as follows: [client] port=3306 [mysql] default-character-set=latin1 [mysqld] port=3306 basedir="D:/MySQL/" datadir="D:/MySQL/data" default-character-set=latin1 default-storage-engine=MYISAM sql-mode="" skip-innodb skip-locking max_allowed_packet = 1M max_connections=800 myisam_max_sort_file_size=5G myisam_sort_buffer_size=500M table_open_cache = 512 table_cache=8000 tmp_table_size=30M query_cache_size=50M thread_cache_size=128 key_buffer_size=3072M read_buffer_size=2M read_rnd_buffer_size=16M sort_buffer_size=2M #replication settings (this is the master) log-bin=log server-id = 1 Does anyone see anything wrong with this setup? For a machine with this much RAM, why in the world would mysqld eat up so much CPU? I know we can optimize some queries, etc., but it did run okay on a smaller machine, so I am pretty sure it is the config. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • SQL Error (1064) when importing data from SQL file

    - by mejpark
    I have a MySQL database, which was originally set up with the default latin1 character set and latin1_swedish_ci collation. I was using the database like this for sometime, until I noticed strange characters on my production web site, which is powered by a database exported from my development machine. At this point, I changed the default character set of the database and tables to utf8 and the collation to utf8_unicode_ci, converted the latin1 data inside each table to utf8 (using the 'convert data' option) and exported the database as a single SQL file using HeidiSQL. When the resulting SQL file is opened in Notepad++, several characters are rendered incorrectly. For example, en dashes (-) are displayed as – and e with accent (é) are displayed as é. I changed the encoding of the file from ANSI to UTF-8 (using the encoding menu option in Notepad++) and the offending characters are rendered correctly. I saved the new utf8-encoded SQL file and attempted to import the contents into the MySQL database on my production server. The import process fails with following error: /* SQL Error (1064): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '?# -------------------------------------------------------- # Host: ' at line 1 */ /* Error with snippets directory: The specified path was not found */ The head of the SQL file: # -------------------------------------------------------- # Host: 127.0.0.1 # Server version: 5.1.33-community # Server OS: Win32 # HeidiSQL version: 6.0.0.3773 # Date/time: 2011-04-20 09:48:36 # -------------------------------------------------------- It chokes on the first line of the file, which is commented out. Why is this happening? I didn't have a problem loading data from SQL files until I changed the character set and collation of the database. I came up with an ugly workaround to this problem by performing following steps: Export database as single SQL file using HeidiSQL Open resulting file in Notepad++ and convert from ANSI to UTF-8 encoding Create new empty file in Notepad++, paste in UTF-8 and save file normally What am I missing here?

  • Mysql - help me optimize this query

    - by sandeepan-nath
    About the system: -The system has a total of 8 tables - Users - Tutor_Details (Tutors are a type of User,Tutor_Details table is linked to Users) - learning_packs, (stores packs created by tutors) - learning_packs_tag_relations, (holds tag relations meant for search) - tutors_tag_relations and tags and orders (containing purchase details of tutor's packs), order_details linked to orders and tutor_details. For a more clear idea about the tables involved please check the The tables section in the end. -A tags based search approach is being followed.Tag relations are created when new tutors register and when tutors create packs (this makes tutors and packs searcheable). For details please check the section How tags work in this system? below. Following is a simpler representation (not the actual) of the more complex query which I am trying to optimize:- I have used statements like explanation of parts in the query select SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" )) as key_1_total_matches, SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%democracy%" )) as key_2_total_matches, td., u., count(distinct(od.id_od)), if (lp.id_lp > 0) then some conditional logic on lp fields else 0 as tutor_popularity from Tutor_Details AS td JOIN Users as u on u.id_user = td.id_user LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs_Tag_Relations AS lptagrels ON td.id_tutor = lptagrels.id_tutor LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs AS lp ON lptagrels.id_lp = lp.id_lp LEFT JOIN `some other tables on lp.id_lp - let's call learning pack tables set (including Learning_Packs table)` LEFT JOIN Order_Details as od on td.id_tutor = od.id_author LEFT JOIN Orders as o on od.id_order = o.id_order LEFT JOIN Tutors_Tag_Relations as ttagrels ON td.id_tutor = ttagrels.id_tutor JOIN Tags as t on (t.id_tag = ttagrels.id_tag) OR (t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) where some condition on Users table's fields AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) AND (lp.id_lp 0)) THEN `some conditions on learning pack tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = wtagrels.id_tag) AND (wc.id_wc 0)) THEN `some conditions on webclasses tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN (od.id_od0) THEN od.id_author = td.id_tutor and some conditions on Orders table's fields ELSE 1 END AND ( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" OR t.tag LIKE "%democracy%") group by td.id_tutor HAVING key_1_total_matches = 1 AND key_2_total_matches = 1 order by tutor_popularity desc, u.surname asc, u.name asc limit 0,20 ===================================================================== What does the above query do? Does AND logic search on the search keywords (2 in this example - "Democracy" and "Dictatorship"). Returns only those tutors for which both the keywords are present in the union of the two sets - tutors details and details of all the packs created by a tutor. To make things clear - Suppose a Tutor name "Sandeepan Nath" has created a pack "My first pack", then:- Searching "Sandeepan Nath" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan first" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan second" does not return Sandeepan Nath. ====================================================================================== The problem The results returned by the above query are correct (AND logic working as per expectation), but the time taken by the query on heavily loaded databases is like 25 seconds as against normal query timings of the order of 0.005 - 0.0002 seconds, which makes it totally unusable. It is possible that some of the delay is being caused because all the possible fields have not yet been indexed, but I would appreciate a better query as a solution, optimized as much as possible, displaying the same results ========================================================================================== How tags work in this system? When a tutor registers, tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to tutor's details like name, surname etc. When a Tutors create packs, again tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to pack's details like pack name, description etc. tag relations for tutors stored in tutors_tag_relations and those for packs stored in learning_packs_tag_relations. All individual tags are stored in tags table. ==================================================================== The tables Most of the following tables contain many other fields which I have omitted here. CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS users ( id_user int(10) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, name varchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT '', surname varchar(155) NOT NULL DEFAULT '', PRIMARY KEY (id_user) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=636 ; E.g. searching "first class", only for class =1, total of key matches = 4(1+1+1+1) searching "Sandeepan Nath", for classes 1, 3,4(all classes by Sandeepan Nath) have all the tutor keys matching. But no pattern in the search for "Sandeepan Class" - classes 1,4,5 should match. Now, how do I put a condition into the query, based on that pattern so that only those classes are returned. Do I need to use full text search here because it gives a scoring/rank value indicating the strength of the match? Any sample query would help. Please note - I have already found solution for showing classes when any/all of the search terms match with the class name. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3030022/mysql-help-me-alter-this-search-query-to-get-desired-results But if all the search terms are in tutor name, it does not work. So, I am modifying the query and experimenting.

  • json_encode with mysql content and umlauts in utf-8

    - by i3rutus
    Hey, i feel my beard growing while trying to find out the Problem here. Basic the Problem is, that Umlauts/Special Signs äöß ... don't work. I guess everyone is sick and tired of that questions but all the solutions found online don't seem to work. Im having utf-8 content in a utf-8 Mysql Database. I feel the Problem ist somewhere in the Database connection but i just can't figure out. character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_filesystem binary character_set_results utf8 character_set_server latin1 character_set_system utf8 Im not sure if the problem is the latin1 for character_set_server because im not into that mysql stuff. I also dont know how to change cause i can't access the mysql server's config files. Whatever is confusing me, that if i get my results from the Database and echo it, print_r gives the right result. ini_set('default_charset','utf-8'); header('Content-Type: text/plain; > charset=utf-8'); Firefox says char encode is utf-8 but if when i output: print_r($listnew); echo json_encode($listnew[5]); print_r results everything right but json_encode does wrong. print_r: [5] => Array ( [id] => 5 [data] => U-Bahnhof Theresienstraße [size] => 17 ) json_encode: {"id":5,"data":"U-Bahnhof Theresienstra\u00dfe","size":17} i know json_encode needs a utf-8 string to work properly there and i feel im having a encode trouble here but i just can't firgure out where it is. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. i3

  • How to localize an app on Google App Engine?

    - by Petri Pennanen
    What options are there for localizing an app on Google App Engine? How do you do it using Webapp, Django, web2py or [insert framework here]. 1. Readable URLs and entity key names Readable URLs are good for usability and search engine optimization (Stack Overflow is a good example on how to do it). On Google App Engine, key based queries are recommended for performance reasons. It follows that it is good practice to use the entity key name in the URL, so that the entity can be fetched from the datastore as quickly as possible. Currently I use the function below to create key names: import re import unicodedata def urlify(unicode_string): """Translates latin1 unicode strings to url friendly ASCII. Converts accented latin1 characters to their non-accented ASCII counterparts, converts to lowercase, converts spaces to hyphens and removes all characters that are not alphanumeric ASCII. Arguments unicode_string: Unicode encoded string. Returns String consisting of alphanumeric (ASCII) characters and hyphens. """ str = unicodedata.normalize('NFKD', unicode_string).encode('ASCII', 'ignore') str = re.sub('[^\w\s-]', '', str).strip().lower() return re.sub('[-\s]+', '-', str) This works fine for English and Swedish, however it will fail for non-western scripts and remove letters from some western ones (like Norwegian and Danish with their œ and ø). Can anyone suggest a method that works with more languages? 2. Translating templates Does Django internationalization and localization work on Google App Engine? Are there any extra steps that must be performed? Is it possible to use Django i18n and l10n for Django templates while using Webapp? The Jinja2 template language provides integration with Babel. How well does this work, in your experience? What options are avilable for your chosen template language? 3. Translated datastore content When serving content from (or storing it to) the datastore: Is there a better way than getting the *accept_language* parameter from the HTTP request and matching this with a language property that you have set with each entity?

  • Mysql - Help me alter this search query to get desired results

    - by sandeepan-nath
    Following is a dump of the tables and data needed to answer understand the system:- The system consists of tutors and classes. The data in the table All_Tag_Relations stores tag relations for each tutor registered and each class created by a tutor. The tag relations are used for searching classes. CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tags` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `tag` varchar(255) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id_tag`), UNIQUE KEY `tag` (`tag`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`), KEY `tag_2` (`tag`), KEY `tag_3` (`tag`), KEY `tag_4` (`tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `Tags` (`id_tag`, `tag`) VALUES (1, 'Sandeepan'), (2, 'Nath'), (3, 'first'), (4, 'class'), (5, 'new'), (6, 'Bob'), (7, 'Cratchit'); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `All_Tag_Relations` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `id_tutor` int(10) default NULL, `id_wc` int(10) unsigned default NULL, KEY `All_Tag_Relations_FKIndex1` (`id_tag`), KEY `id_wc` (`id_wc`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `All_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`, `id_tutor`, `id_wc`) VALUES (1, 1, NULL), (2, 1, NULL), (3, 1, 1), (4, 1, 1), (6, 2, NULL), (7, 2, NULL), (5, 2, 2), (4, 2, 2); Following is my query:- This query searches for "first class" (tag for first = 3 and for class = 4, in Tags table) and returns all those classes such that both the terms first and class are present in the class name. SELECT wtagrels.id_wc,SUM(DISTINCT( wtagrels.id_tag =3)) AS key_1_total_matches, SUM(DISTINCT( wtagrels.id_tag =4)) AS key_2_total_matches FROM all_tag_relations AS wtagrels WHERE ( wtagrels.id_tag =3 OR wtagrels.id_tag =4 ) GROUP BY wtagrels.id_wc HAVING key_1_total_matches = 1 AND key_2_total_matches = 1 LIMIT 0, 20 And it returns the class with id_wc = 1. But, I want the search to show all those classes such that all the search terms are present in the class name or its tutor name So that searching "Sandeepan class" (wtagrels.id_tag = 1,4) or "Sandeepan Nath" also returns the class with id_wc=1. And Searching. Searching "Bob First" should not return any classes. Please modify the above query or suggest a new query, if possible using MyIsam - fulltext search, but somehow help me get the result.

  • How should I design my MYSQL table/s?

    - by yaya3
    I built a really basic php/mysql site for an architect that uses one 'projects' table. The website showcases various projects that he has worked on. Each project contained one piece of text and one series of images. Original projects table (create syntax): CREATE TABLE `projects` ( `project_id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `project_name` text, `project_text` text, `image_filenames` text, `image_folder` text, `project_pdf` text, PRIMARY KEY (`project_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=8 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; The client now requires the following, and I'm not sure how to handle the expansions in my DB. My suspicion is that I will need an additional table. Each project now have 'pages'. Pages either contain... One image One "piece" of text One image and one piece of text. Each page could use one of three layouts. As each project does not currently have more than 4 pieces of text (a very risky assumption) I have expanded the original table to accommodate everything. New projects table attempt (create syntax): CREATE TABLE `projects` ( `project_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `project_name` text, `project_pdf` text, `project_image_folder` text, `project_img_filenames` text, `pages_with_text` text, `pages_without_img` text, `pages_layout_type` text, `pages_title` text, `page_text_a` text, `page_text_b` text, `page_text_c` text, `page_text_d` text, PRIMARY KEY (`project_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=8 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; In trying to learn more about MYSQL table structuring I have just read an intro to normalization and A Simple Guide to Five Normal Forms in Relational Database Theory. I'm going to keep reading! Thanks in advance

  • Getting the most recent post based on date

    - by camcim
    Hi guys, How do I go about displaying the most recent post when I have two tables, both containing a column called creation_date This would be simple if all I had to do was get the most recent post based on posts created_on value however if a post contains replies I need to factor this into the equation. If a post has a more recent reply I want to get the replies created_on value but also get the posts post_id and subject. The posts table structure: CREATE TABLE `posts` ( `post_id` bigint(20) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `cat_id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `user_id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `subject` tinytext NOT NULL, `comments` text NOT NULL, `created_on` datetime NOT NULL, `status` varchar(10) NOT NULL default 'INACTIVE', `private_post` varchar(10) NOT NULL default 'PUBLIC', `db_location` varchar(10) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`post_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=7 ; The replies table structure: CREATE TABLE `replies` ( `reply_id` bigint(20) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `post_id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `user_id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `comments` text NOT NULL, `created_on` datetime NOT NULL, `notify` varchar(5) NOT NULL default 'YES', `status` varchar(10) NOT NULL default 'INACTIVE', `db_location` varchar(10) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`reply_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=5 ; Here is my query so far. I've removed my attempt of extracting the dates. $strQuery = "SELECT posts.post_id, posts.created_on, replies.created_on, posts.subject "; $strQuery = $strQuery."FROM posts ,replies "; $strQuery = $strQuery."WHERE posts.post_id = replies.post_id "; $strQuery = $strQuery."AND posts.cat_id = '".$row->cat_id."'";

  • SQL Query to return maximums over decades

    - by Abraham Lincoln
    My question is the following. I have a baseball database, and in that baseball database there is a master table which lists every player that has ever played. There is also a batting table, which tracks every players' batting statistics. I created a view to join those two together; hence the masterplusbatting table. CREATE TABLE `Master` ( `lahmanID` int(9) NOT NULL auto_increment, `playerID` varchar(10) NOT NULL default '', `nameFirst` varchar(50) default NULL, `nameLast` varchar(50) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (`lahmanID`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=18968 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; CREATE TABLE `Batting` ( `playerID` varchar(9) NOT NULL default '', `yearID` smallint(4) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `teamID` char(3) NOT NULL default '', `lgID` char(2) NOT NULL default '', `HR` smallint(3) unsigned default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`playerID`,`yearID`,`stint`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), KEY `team` (`teamID`,`yearID`,`lgID`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; Anyway, my first query involved finding the most home runs hit every year since baseball began, including ties. The query to do that is the following.... select f.yearID, f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS This worked great. However, I now want to find the highest HR hitter in each decade since baseball began. Here is what I tried. select f.yearID, truncate(f.yearid/10,0) as decade,f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS group by decade You can see that I truncated the yearID in order to get 187, 188, 189 etc instead of 1897, 1885,. I then grouped by the decade, thinking that it would give me the highest per decade, but it is not returning the correct values. For example, it's giving me Adrian Beltre with 48 HR's in 2004 but everyone knows that Barry Bonds hit 73 HR in 2001. Can anyone give me some pointers?

  • How do you convert a parent-child (adjacency) table to a nested set using PHP and MySQL?

    - by mrbinky3000
    I've spent the last few hours trying to find the solution to this question online. I've found plenty of examples on how to convert from nested set to adjacency... but few that go the other way around. The examples I have found either don't work or use MySQL procedures. Unfortunately, I can't use procedures for this project. I need a pure PHP solution. I have a table that uses the adjacency model below: id parent_id category 1 0 ROOT_NODE 2 1 Books 3 1 CD's 4 1 Magazines 5 2 Books/Hardcover 6 2 Books/Large Format 7 4 Magazines/Vintage And I would like to convert it to a Nested Set table below: id left right category 1 1 14 Root Node 2 2 7 Books 3 3 4 Books/Hardcover 4 5 6 Books/Large Format 5 8 9 CD's 6 10 13 Magazines 7 11 12 Magazines/Vintage Here is an image of what I need: I have a function, based on the pseudo code from this forum post (http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320444) but it doesn't work. I get multiple rows that have the same value for left. This should not happen. <?php /** -- -- Table structure for table `adjacent_table` -- CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `adjacent_table` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `father_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `category` varchar(128) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=8 ; -- -- Dumping data for table `adjacent_table` -- INSERT INTO `adjacent_table` (`id`, `father_id`, `category`) VALUES (1, 0, 'ROOT'), (2, 1, 'Books'), (3, 1, 'CD''s'), (4, 1, 'Magazines'), (5, 2, 'Hard Cover'), (6, 2, 'Large Format'), (7, 4, 'Vintage'); -- -- Table structure for table `nested_table` -- CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `nested_table` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `lft` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `rgt` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `category` varchar(128) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ; */ mysql_connect('localhost','USER','PASSWORD') or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db('DATABASE') or die(mysql_error()); adjacent_to_nested(0); /** * adjacent_to_nested * * Reads a "adjacent model" table and converts it to a "Nested Set" table. * @param integer $i_id Should be the id of the "root node" in the adjacent table; * @param integer $i_left Should only be used on recursive calls. Holds the current value for lft */ function adjacent_to_nested($i_id, $i_left = 0) { // the right value of this node is the left value + 1 $i_right = $i_left + 1; // get all children of this node $a_children = get_source_children($i_id); foreach ($a_children as $a) { // recursive execution of this function for each child of this node // $i_right is the current right value, which is incremented by the // import_from_dc_link_category method $i_right = adjacent_to_nested($a['id'], $i_right); // insert stuff into the our new "Nested Sets" table $s_query = " INSERT INTO `nested_table` (`id`, `lft`, `rgt`, `category`) VALUES( NULL, '".$i_left."', '".$i_right."', '".mysql_real_escape_string($a['category'])."' ) "; if (!mysql_query($s_query)) { echo "<pre>$s_query</pre>\n"; throw new Exception(mysql_error()); } echo "<p>$s_query</p>\n"; // get the newly created row id $i_new_nested_id = mysql_insert_id(); } return $i_right + 1; } /** * get_source_children * * Examines the "adjacent" table and finds all the immediate children of a node * @param integer $i_id The unique id for a node in the adjacent_table table * @return array Returns an array of results or an empty array if no results. */ function get_source_children($i_id) { $a_return = array(); $s_query = "SELECT * FROM `adjacent_table` WHERE `father_id` = '".$i_id."'"; if (!$i_result = mysql_query($s_query)) { echo "<pre>$s_query</pre>\n"; throw new Exception(mysql_error()); } if (mysql_num_rows($i_result) > 0) { while($a = mysql_fetch_assoc($i_result)) { $a_return[] = $a; } } return $a_return; } ?> This is the output of the above script. INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '2', '5', 'Hard Cover' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '2', '7', 'Large Format' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '1', '8', 'Books' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '1', '10', 'CD\'s' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '10', '13', 'Vintage' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '1', '14', 'Magazines' ) INSERT INTO nested_table (id, lft, rgt, category) VALUES( NULL, '0', '15', 'ROOT' ) As you can see, there are multiple rows sharing the lft value of "1" same goes for "2" In a nested-set, the values for left and right must be unique. Here is an example of how to manually number the left and right ID's in a nested set: UPDATE - PROBLEM SOLVED First off, I had mistakenly believed that the source table (the one in adjacent-lists format) needed to be altered to include a source node. This is not the case. Secondly, I found a cached page on BING (of all places) with a class that does the trick. I've altered it for PHP5 and converted the original author's mysql related bits to basic PHP. He was using some DB class. You can convert them to your own database abstraction class later if you want. Obviously, if your "source table" has other columns that you want to move to the nested set table, you will have to adjust the write method in the class below. Hopefully this will save someone else from the same problems in the future. <?php /** -- -- Table structure for table `adjacent_table` -- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `adjacent_table`; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `adjacent_table` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `father_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `category` varchar(128) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=8 ; -- -- Dumping data for table `adjacent_table` -- INSERT INTO `adjacent_table` (`id`, `father_id`, `category`) VALUES (1, 0, 'Books'), (2, 0, 'CD''s'), (3, 0, 'Magazines'), (4, 1, 'Hard Cover'), (5, 1, 'Large Format'), (6, 3, 'Vintage'); -- -- Table structure for table `nested_table` -- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `nested_table`; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `nested_table` ( `lft` int(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', `rgt` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `category` varchar(128) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`lft`), UNIQUE KEY `id` (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `rgt` (`rgt`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; */ /** * @class tree_transformer * @author Paul Houle, Matthew Toledo * @created 2008-11-04 * @url http://gen5.info/q/2008/11/04/nested-sets-php-verb-objects-and-noun-objects/ */ class tree_transformer { private $i_count; private $a_link; public function __construct($a_link) { if(!is_array($a_link)) throw new Exception("First parameter should be an array.
