• Vbscript - Checking each subfolder for files and copy files

  I'm trying to get this script to work. It's basically supposed to mirror two sets of folders and make sure they are exactly the same. If a folder is missing, the folder and it's content should be copied. Then the script should compare the DateModified attribute and only copy the files if the source file is newer than the destination file. I'm trying to get together a script that does exactly that. And so far I've been able to check all subfolder if they exist and then create them if they don't. Then I've been able to scan the top source folder for it's files and copy them if they don't exist or if the DateModified attribute is newer on the source file. What remains is basically scanning each subfolder for its files and copy them if they don't exist or if the DateModified stamp is newer. • Howto disable SSH local port forwarding ?

  I have a server running Ubuntu and the OpenSSH daemon. Let's call it S1. I use this server from client machines (let's call one of them C1) to do an SSH reverse tunnel by using remote port forwarding, eg : ssh -R 1234:localhost:23 login@S1 On S1, I use the default sshd_config file. From what I can see, anyone having the right credentials {login,pwd} on S1 can log into S1 and either do remote port forwarding and local port forwarding. Such credentials could be a certificate in the future, so in my understanding anyone grabbing the certificate can log into S1 from anywhere else (not necessarily C1) and hence create local port forwardings. To me, allowing local port forwarding is too dangerous, since it allows to create some kind of public proxy. I'm looking for a way tto disable only -L forwardings. I tried the following, but this disables both local and remote forwarding : AllowTcpForwarding No I also tried the following, this will only allow -L to SX:1. It's better than nothing, but still not what I need, which is a "none" option. PermitOpen SX:1 So I'm wondering if there is a way, so that I can forbid all local port forwards to write something like : PermitOpen none:none Is the following a nice idea ? PermitOpen localhost:1

• certain files not syncing

  I have UbuntuOne set up to sync a one folder with a number of subfolders. For some reason some of the subfolders have stopped syncing. Within one subfolder with 6 subfolders in it, some are showing up empty (they shouldn't be) and some are showing up with only some of the files they should contain. I have synced recently, and newer files are showing up in other subfolders. There's just some problem with these particular folders. They are not especially big nor do they have especially big files in them. Thoughts?

• Ubuntu One lost most of my files!

  I keep in my UbuntuOne the source code of my projects as a back up. In the past it worked and I never had problem. It happened that I had to change the hard disk of my laptop and I installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 in the new one. First time I connected with UbuntuOne it downloaded my files, but when I went to see my projects almost all my c++ source code files were missing!!!... I tried to check if I still have them on UbuntuOne by accessing from the web but nothing... my work is lost forever. I don't know who to ask for help? Is there a way to get back my precious files? Honestly I can't trust this service any more, I'm very disappointed. (edit: thanks God I found a back up in one of my external hard disks. I won't trust Ubuntu One any more, it's buggy and quite slow. )

• Ubuntu-one syncs single files, but not directories [closed]

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated. I have tried to sync my ~/Documents and ~/Pictures folders; U1 replicates the directory structure, but no files are uploaded. Next I tried to sync a single file inside ~/Ubuntu One and it was synced. Then I tried to put a directory inside ~/Ubuntu One and, again, the directory structure was replicated, but no files were synced. All the files have the "syncing" icon, however. But why don't we store the binary files directly in the form of sequence of machine instructions.Why do we need to store data separately from the code?Secondly when the assembler creates a binary file is the file is among the above formats?

  I’m struggling with one of the most frustrating bugs I’ve ever come across. Bug description:   The for command of the command-interpreter cannot see hidden files. Reproduction steps: Create a temporary directory Create a few files Assign a variety of attributes to the files (including hidden) Use a command like for %i in (*) do echo "%i" Expected results:    All files are processed in the for loop either by default or though a switch. Actual results: Files with any attribute other than hidden are processed; files flagged as hidden are skipped There is no switch to the for command to allow it to process hidden files Implications:    There is no way to process all files from the command-prompt. Question:    How the heck can hidden files be processed from the command-prompt or batch-files (at least in Windows if not DOS)?

  I have several local machines; I use a OSX 10.6 machine to do most of the serving. Annoyingly, it postfixes its network name with .local. How would I set up a system so that I could access it by its hostname? server: httpd apache2 default install I am accessing it with a web browser(surprisingly). also when I ping my osx machine as name, it doesn't work; ping name.local does work.

  Two linux servers, server1 and server2, are on the same local network (they also have access to an external network). Server2 has a local IP of 192.168.0.2 and a host name of host2.mydomain.com. QUESTION 1: If an application on server1 sends traffic to server2 using a host name of host2.mydomain.com, what determines whether this traffic is routed to server2 using the local or external network? QUESTION 2: To ensure that all traffic sent from server1 to server2 always uses the local network, could I simply include in the server1 /etc/hosts file the following? 192.168.0.2 host2.mydomain.com ...the thinking being, if the servers are always on the same network there should never be a need for server2 to send traffic to server1 via the external network (that I can think of anyway). Is this done in practice, or is some other method preferred?

However, when I run gpresult /v /u localmachine\user I get the error that I do have to specify a server name, and when I run gpresult /v /s 127.0.0.1 /u localmachine\user I get the message user credentials for local system are ignored, and I get the group policies for the local administrator as a result. How do I get the settings for the users?

  I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. • proxychained browser unable to open files

  Ubuntu 10.10, Midori 0.3.2 browser (same problem with Epiphany 2.30.2, Chrome 11.0.686.1 dev; haven't tried with Firefox as yet) Proxychains-3.1 installed, working fine. Here is the deal: when NOT proxychained, Midori or Epiphany can download and open a file (e.g. PDFs from a Google search) in Evince without problem. But when proxychained, neither browser can open PDF files. The message is, "file xxx downloaded". Then it tries to open the file, an indication appears in the status bar, the turning wheel appears, and then nothing. Evince doesn't open. Whats going on here? In both cases (with and without proxychains) files are downloaded to the /tmp folder. They have the same file permissions and ownership. Whats different when proxychained? Why can't the files be opened and why are there no error messages or notifications. Why the silent failure? I don't want to use FF or Chrome. Chrome does not follow my GTK2 customizations and FF is just too resource heavy. Please help.

• Keeping remote files synced with local files?

  Hello, When developing web applications, how does one keep local files and remote files synced together? There is the obvious way, whenever you edit a file on your local machine, just upload that file to the remote machine. Is there a more efficient way? I ask because I have been using subversion control, and it is so easy to keep files synced on a remote server. All I have to do is "commit" and it will find the files which need to be replaced.

• Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

  Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process. • 12.04 run from cd, cannot copy files from mounted disk

  I am running 12.04 live from cd and trying to copy some important files from a mounted hard disk to an external disk. (My previous installation of 10.04 crashed and I want to install 12.04, and back up some data before that). When I try to copy files from the mounted disk to the external one, I get the following error: There was an error copying the file into /media/New Volume/L300_Bkp_2012_06_04/pics Error opening file: Permission denied Is this related to the source(mounted hard disk) or the target (external disk)?   After a successful upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 a gradual deterioration occurred -- my laptop became unstable with updates -- I corrected the Aspell file, only to have another appear, I sought but I was blocked out. Had an idea, but resolved one that another problem appeared -- going from bad to worse -- I re-installed windows Vista and Ubuntu 11.10 in the original partitions. Window called it Windows Old and I had no problems recovering my files there - Ubuntu decided it is going to make a new Home directory -- . the questions is where did these files go to after re-installation -- are they deleted? If so That's fine duplicates are in Ubuntu 1 by synchronization - I can only download one file at a time!

• Why does Files (Nautilus) stopped updating partition's bookmarks?

  I've upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and noticed that Files (Nautilus) stopped updating my bookmarks that are located in another partition (an ext4 one). It used to work before. Testing, I've found out that, if I add any new bookmark (using CTRL + D, for example), Files then adds this new one and updates all bookmarks, showing that ones that point to my partition. I conclude that the feature (updating bookmarks) works, but it's not being executed when I mount my partition clicking on it. Any hints on how to solve this? Bookmarks really speed up everyday activities.

• Apache 403 Forbidden Error when accessing local web server using local IP address

  I have an odd problem when attempting to browse to pages stored on a local web server (Apache 2.2). The pages are served as expected when I browse to localhost or 127.0.0.1 on port 80. Yet when I attempt to browse to the same pages by referencing the local IP address (192.168.x.x), I receive a HTTP 403 (Forbidden) error. In essence, http://localhost:80 works but 192.168.x.x:80 doesn't even though I'm specifying the IP of the local machine. You may be thinking "who cares? just use localhost". However, this is the first step in troubleshooting why I cannot remotely access these pages from different hosts on my LAN. I'm presuming this can't be a firewall issue as I'm only connecting to the local machine. Even so, I verified there was no iptables rules that could be having an effect. I've checked the Apache error logs and the corresponding line of relevance is: [Sat Oct 19 07:38:35 2013] [error] [client 192.168.x.x] client denied by server configuration: /var/www/ I've inspected most of the apache config files and they don't appear to differ from what you would expect with a default install. • Local and public IPs on the same switch?

  It's all pretty much in the title. Is it possible to assign both local and public IPs to different nodes connected to the same switch? I have 4 servers with 2 gigabit ethernet ports each. I want one of each to have a public IP, and the remaining ports to have local IPs for server-to-server traffic. Sorry if it's a dumb question. I didn't see anything about it on here already.

• Why I don't use SSIS checkpoint files

  In a recent discussion in regard to general ETL best practises the subject of checkpoint files as a means for package restartability came up and I stated that I was dead against using them. For anyone that may care, here is why: Configuring them is distinctly unintuitive (that's a matter of opinion but if you follow the link I'll wager that you will agree) they don't make any allowance for loop iterations they cannot store variables of type Object they are limited in ability. There are many scenarios where you may want to execute certain containers regardless of whether the package is started from a checkpoint file but the current usage model does not allow for this. they are ignored by eventhandlers, which wouldn't be so bad if there were a way to toggle this behaviour in certain scenarios they dont work properly I'll expand on the last bullet point. I have encountered situations where the behaviour for tasks executing concurrently is unpredictable. That is, sometimes the completion of a task that executes concurrently with a failed/failing task will make it into the checkpoint file and sometimes it won't. This is near-impossible to reproduce but it does happen as my good friend John Welch will hopefully concur (if he is reading). Is anyone out there making successful use of checkpoint files within SSIS? I would be interested in knowing about that if so. @Jamiet
