  • MediaWiki: workaround for watchlist restricted to 7 days?

    - by Mark Robinson
I'm running MediaWiki 1.13.2. When I go to my watchlist, I'm limited to only viewing the last 7 days (though MediaWiki should permit me to view the last 30 days). I've tried: Clicking the all button Changing the URL Changing the settings under MY PREFERENCES-WATCHLIST. When I save (e.g. 30 days) it resets back to 7 days! Googling for an answer... Anyone heard of this bug before? Is there a workaround? I can't see a setting anywhere for this to be a maximum.

  • Mediawiki authenication replacement showing "Login Required" instead of signing user into wiki

    - by arcdegree
I'm fairly to MediaWiki and needed a way to automatically log users in after they authenticated to a central server (which creates a session and cookie for applications to use). I wrote a custom authentication extension based off of the LDAP Authentication extension and a few others. The extension simply needs to read some session data to create or update a user and then log them in automatically. All the authentication is handled externally. A user would not be able to even access the wiki website without logging in externally. This extension was placed into production which replaced the old standard MediaWiki authentication system. I also merged user accounts to prepare for the change. By default, a user must be logged in to view, edit, or otherwise do anything in the wiki. My problem is that I found if a user had previously used the built-in MediaWiki authentication system and returned to the wiki, my extension would attempt to auto-login the user, however, they would see a "Login Required" page instead of the page they requested like they were an anonymous user. If the user then refreshed the page, they would be able to navigate, edit, etc. From what I can tell, this issue resolves itself after the UserID cookie is reset or created fresh (but has been known to strangely come up sometimes). To replicate, if there is an older User ID in the "USERID" cookie, the user is shown the "Login Required" page which is a poor user experience. Another way of showing this page is by removing the user account from the database and refreshing the wiki page. As a result, the user will again see the "Login Required" page. Does anyone know how I can use debugging to find out why MediaWiki thinks the user is not signed in when the cookies are set properly and all it takes is a page refresh? Here is my extension (simplified a little for this post): <?php $wgExtensionCredits['parserhook'][] = array ( 'name' => 'MyExtension', 'author' => '', ); if (!class_exists('AuthPlugin')) { require_once ( 'AuthPlugin.php' ); } class MyExtensionPlugin extends AuthPlugin { function userExists($username) { return true; } function authenticate($username, $password) { $id = $_SESSION['id']; if($username = $id) { return true; } else { return false; } } function updateUser(& $user) { $name = $user->getName(); $user->load(); $user->mPassword = ''; $user->mNewpassword = ''; $user->mNewpassTime = null; $user->setRealName($_SESSION['name']); $user->setEmail($_SESSION['email']); $user->mEmailAuthenticated = wfTimestampNow(); $user->saveSettings(); return true; } function modifyUITemplate(& $template) { $template->set('useemail', false); $template->set('remember', false); $template->set('create', false); $template->set('domain', false); $template->set('usedomain', false); } function autoCreate() { return true; } function disallowPrefsEditByUser() { return array ( 'wpRealName' => true, 'wpUserEmail' => true, 'wpNick' => true ); } function allowPasswordChange() { return false; } function setPassword( $user, $password ) { return false; } function strict() { return true; } function initUser( & $user ) { } function updateExternalDB( $user ) { return false; } function canCreateAccounts() { return false; } function addUser( $user, $password ) { return false; } function getCanonicalName( $username ) { return $username; } } function SetupAuthMyExtension() { global $wgHooks; global $wgAuth; $wgHooks['UserLoadFromSession'][] = 'Auth_MyExtension_autologin_hook'; $wgHooks['UserLogoutComplete'][] = 'Auth_MyExtension_UserLogoutComplete'; $wgHooks['PersonalUrls'][] = 'Auth_MyExtension_personalURL_hook'; $wgAuth = new MyExtensionPlugin(); } function Auth_MyExtension_autologin_hook($user, &$return_user ) { global $wgUser; global $wgAuth; global $wgContLang; wfSetupSession(); // Give us a user, see if we're around $tmpuser = new User() ; $rc = $tmpuser->newFromSession(); $rc = $tmpuser->load(); if( $rc && $rc->isLoggedIn() ) { if ( $rc->authenticate($rc->getName(), '') ) { return true; } else { $rc->logout(); } } $id = trim($_SESSION['id']); $name = ucfirst(trim($_SESSION['name'])); if (empty($dsid)) { $result = false; // Deny access return true; } $user = User::newFromName($dsid); if (0 == $user->getID() ) { // we have a new user to add... $user->setName( $id); $user->addToDatabase(); $user->setToken(); $user->saveSettings(); $ssUpdate = new SiteStatsUpdate( 0, 0, 0, 0, 1 ); $ssUpdate->doUpdate(); } else { $user->saveToCache(); } // update email, real name, etc. $wgAuth->updateUser( $user ); $result = true; // Go ahead and log 'em in $user->setToken(); $user->saveSettings(); $user->setupSession(); $user->setCookies(); return true; } function Auth_MyExtension_personalURL_hook(& $personal_urls, & $title) { global $wgUser; unset( $personal_urls['mytalk'] ); unset($personal_urls['Userlogin']); $personal_urls['userpage']['text'] = $wgUser->getRealName(); foreach (array('login', 'anonlogin') as $k) { if (array_key_exists($k, $personal_urls)) { unset($personal_urls[$k]); } } return true; } function Auth_MyExtension_UserLogoutComplete(&$user, &$inject_html, $old_name) { setcookie( $GLOBALS['wgCookiePrefix'] . • Create a popup window in Mediawiki

    - by Karthick
I am customising the mediawiki for our internal portal. I need to open a popup window on clicking a link in the wikitext. This popup would take information from the mysql database and display a movie clip or a document or something. Anyone knows how this can be done?

  • Adding fields to user registration in Mediawiki

    - by boogie
Hi, I've been Googling a lot, but I just can't figure out how to add a couple fields to user registration. By default Mediawiki only asks for username, password and real name. I noticed that form is a template under /includes/templates/UserLogin.php, but I don't want to modify that file to make the changes. What is the correct way to do that?

  • Convert mediawiki to LaTeX syntax

    - by Amit Kumar
I need to convert mediawiki into LaTeX syntax. The formulas should stay the same, but I need to transform, for example = something = into \chapter{something}. Although this can be obtained with a bit of sed, things get a little dirty with the itemize environment, so I was wondering if a better solution can be produced. Anything that can be useful for this task ? This is the reverse of this question (graciously copied). Pandoc was the answer to that question, but probably not yet for this.

  • How to write a custom (odd) authentication plugins for Wordpress, Joomla and MediaWiki

    - by Bart van Heukelom
On our network (a group of related websites - not a LAN) we have a common authentication system which works like this: On a network site ("consumer") the user clicks on a login link This redirects the user to a login page on our auth system ("RAS"). Upon successful login the user is directed back to the consumer site. Extra data is passed in the query string. This extra data does not include any information about the user yet. The consumer site's backend contacts RAS to get the information about the logged in user. So as you can see, the consumer site knows nothing about the authentication method. It doesn't know if it's by username/password, fingerprint, smartcard, or winning a game of poker. This is the main problem I'm encountering when trying to find out how I could write custom authentication plugins for these packages, acting as consumer sites: Wordpress Joomla MediaWiki For example Joomla offers a pretty simple auth plugin system, but it depends on a username/password entered on the Joomla site. Any hints on where to start?

  • Check if a MediaWiki page exists (Python)

    - by compie
I'm working on a Python script that transforms this: foo bar Into this: [[Component foo]] [[bar]] The script checks (per input line) if the page "Component foo" exists. If it exists then a link to that page is created, if it doesn't exist then a direct link is created. The problem is that I need a quick & cheap way to check if a lot of wiki pages exist.I don't want to (try to) download all the 'Component' pages. I already figured out a fast way to do this by hand: Edit a new wiki page. paste all the 'component' links into the page, press preview, and then save the resulting preview HTML page. The resulting HTML file contains a different link for existing pages than for non-existing pages. So to rephrase my question: How can I save a mediawiki preview page in Python?

  • Trouble Getting a Locally Hosted Copy of the English Language Wiktionary to include the Translations Sections

    - by user1436026
I used MWDumper - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mwdumper - to import the xml dump of the English Language Wiktionary (specifically the file named enwiktionary-20120930-pages-meta-current.xml,) to my local server. I have found that under the Translations section (on each page for each English word,) next to the name of each language where I should be able to see the definition in a foreign language, I instead see Template:Tø, Template:T+, or Template:T- and I am not sure why this is. As an experiment, I also used WikiTaxi - http://www.yunqa.de/delphi/doku.php/products/wikitaxi/index - with the exact same XML dump and did not have this problem when viewing under WikiTaxi.exe. I have been searching through mediawiki.org looking for the answer, but have so far not been successful. I appreciate your help

  • MediaWiki: how to hide users from the user list?

    - by Dave Everitt
I've set up Mediawiki 1.15.1 for a client who has added two users by mistake. They now want to hide these users from the user list. It seems this is done via the $wgGroupPermissions array with $wgGroupPermissions['suppress']['hideuser'] = true;, but it isn't at all clear what entry this needs for the hiding to work, or whether a new group ('hidden' or whatever) has to be created first with $wgAddGroups['bureaucrat'] = true;. For now, I've added the two users to be hidden to the 'Oversight' group which explains 'Block a username, hiding it from the public (hideuser)', but they still appear on the Special:ListUsers page. At a loss as to how the MediWiki arrays alter options displayed in the interface, so far I've added this to LocalSettings.php: $wgGroupPermissions['suppress']['hideuser'] = true; $wgAddGroups['supress'] = true; Or - since they haven't actually added anything to the wiki - could they simply be removed from the MySQL users table - although MediaWiki warns against this? Has anyone else done this successfully? Update - this is a hole in MediaWiki admin (although there are workarounds). See this thread on MediaWIki Users and the note to the reply below.

  • mediawiki markup equivalent of WMD live-previewing editor? (not WYSIWYG)

    - by Justin Grant
Anyone have a recommendation for an editor like the WMD editor, but using MediaWiki markup instead of Markdown? Our site is already using MediaWiki markup but we want a slicker editor without changing markup completely. Requirements include: live preview of formatted text underneath the markup you're typing a toolbar for common formatting (bold, italic, links, bullets, numbered-list, code, etc) keyboard shortcuts for each toolbar button (e.g. CTRL+B for bold) Undo/redo via keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+Z/CTRL+Y) or toolbar buttons works well in the usual set of popular browsers (including IE6!) open-source would be preferred I've found a few options at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/WYSIWYG_editor, but all of these seem to be WYSIWYG editors which is not exactly what I want since full-on WYSIWYG editors tend to be bug-prone and complicate working at the markup level. Instead we want a plain-text markup editor with a client-side previewer, plus some UI niceties (toolbar, undo, keyboard shortcuts) to make editing markup easier.

  • How can I configure MediaWiki to display numbers in titles?

    - by Wikis
We would like to display numbers in the titles in our MediaWiki wiki. Specifically: in the table of contents numbers are shown like this: 1 Title 1.1 Subtitle 2 Another title However, on the page the titles (that map to the table of contents) appear like this: Title text Subtitle text Another title text That is, no numbers are shown. How can we show numbers in the page contents? There are three possible ways that this could be answered (that I can think of). In our order of preference, they are: Setting per user Setting per page Global setting (for all users)

  • Extension to add button "Report to Bugzilla"?

    - by Alois Mahdal
We have: internal MediaWiki installation for internal documents (we don't use it in completely wiki-like style—only maintainers should normally make changes) internal Bugzilla installation for internal issues including these internal documents on the MediaWiki site Now only the icing on the cake is missing: an automatic button that would appear on each page, being able to open a Bugzilla page pre-fill some fields with information about that page Basically, name What I imagine as a best solution would be a sibling to the ubiquitous "[edit]" button, probably sitting next to it, like in this mock-up:

  • How should I migrate a site from ZWiki to MediaWiki?

    - by Dan L
I have a fairly extensive wiki on ZWiki on Zope (in turn on Plone). Most pages are in reStructured text format, but there are several in straight HTML as well. What is the best approach to migrate those pages over to a MediaWiki wiki with pages converted to MediaWiki and HTML formats? Of course I'd like to automagically convert all links (internal and external).

  • Best Free software for hosting user guides

    - by Hippyjim
Hi All After having to clean up spam from a MediaWiki install for the umpteenth time, despite a recaptcha plugin "preventing" automated signups, I'm wondering if MediaWiki is the right choice as a CMS for hosting user manuals and guides. I've always loved the way wikis can let the guides be edited and commented on collaboratively, but I'm getting tired of dealing with automated vandals. I've disabled edits & signups for now, but as I'm having to go through the pain of cleaning thousands of junk pages, I'm beginning to think I should cut my losses and look for a better alternative. Does anyone know of suitable a FOSS application (preferably PHP / MySQL based) that would be simple for a non-coder (our manual writer) to edit, but that has all the interconnectivity, and searchability of a wiki? Or should I just bite the bullet again and lock the wiki down even further?

  • Snow Leopard Servers built in Wiki vs Mediawiki?

    - by semi
I recently installed Snow Leopard Server and am trying to get the most out of the services it offers, but one thing that currently seems pretty barebones is the Wiki it provides. Can Snow Leopard Servers wiki be modified with plugins the way MediaWiki can? Are there any good plugins to allow you to include templates like MediaWiki? Is there any way to include embeded syntax highlighted example code? Is there even a good name to refer to it as when searching for it? "Snow Leopard Wiki" just turns up a bunch of wikis about SL. Alternatively, how hard is it to install MediaWiki(or some other more advanced wiki engine) on SL Server? Could you plug it in to the same authentication mechanism?
