  The plan is to take domain.com/chat2/roomnumber and redirect to domain.com/chat2/index.php?room_id=roomnumber. Here's my code that's NOT workin: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/chat2/([a-z0-9_-]+)/$ /index.php?room_id=$1 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^/chat2/([a-z0-9_-]+)$ /index.php?room_id=$1 [NC,L] I get sent to the 404 page. I'm guessing the problem is my placement of the ^ but I'm not certain.

• Covert mod-rewrite to lighttpd for lessn url shortener

  I am trying to use lessn, a url shortener by Shaun Inman, on my lighttpd server and he uses a .htaccess file for the redirect. I am not very good with Mod_Rewrite isn the first place otherwise some simple googling would have sufficed to convert this for lighttpd. As it is, I do not know what the 2nd and 3rd lines of the Mod_Rewrite are doing, so I cannot convert. I'd appreciate anyone's advice on those so I can have it working as it should.   Ok, I don't know regex very well so I used a generator to help me make a simple mod_rewrite that works. Here's my full URL https://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails.php?id_prd=683 For testing to make sure I CAN use this, I used this: RewriteRule prodDetails/(.*)/$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 So I can use the URL http://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails/683/ If you click it, it works but it completely messes up the relative paths. There are a few work-arounds but I want something a little different. https://www.huttonchase.com/prod_683_stainless-steel-flask I want it to see that 'prod' is going to tell it which rule it's matching, 683 is the product number that I'm looking up in the database, and I want it to just IGNORE the last part, it's there only for SEO and to make the link mean something to customers. I'm told that this should work, but it's not: RewriteRule ^prod_([^-]*)_([^-]*)$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 [L] Once I get the first one to work I'll write one for Categories: https://www.huttonchase.com/cat_11_drinkware And database driven text pages: https://www.huttonchase.com/page_44_terms-of-service BTW, I can flip around my use of dash and underscore if need be. • Is there any proper documentation for mod-evasive?

  mod_evasive20 is one of the loaded modules on my httpd server. I read good things about how it can stop a DOS attack and wanted to try it out on my localhost. A search for mod_evasive turns up a blog post by the author which briefly describes what it does. Other than that, I can't seem to find a reference or a documentation on the apache modules site. I was wondering whether it is a module recognised by Apache since there is no mention of it on its website. I have a mod_evasive.conf file sitting in the /etc/http/conf.d folder that contains the following lines: LoadModule evasive20_module modules/mod_evasive20.so <IfModule mod_evasive20.c> DOSHashTableSize 3097 DOSPageCount 2 DOSSiteCount 50 DOSPageInterval 1 DOSSiteInterval 1 DOSBlockingPeriod 10 </IfModule> My understanding from the setting is that if I were to click refresh or send a form more than two times in a one second interval, apache will issue a 403 error and bar me from the site for 10 seconds. But that is not happening on my localhost. And I would like to know the reason. Thanks.

• Resolve local subdomain on apache for paths within user dir

  On Apache 2.2.x I've activated mod_userdir. I used the default setup, so that http://localhost/~name/ will be connect with ~name/public_html/ and a path within public_html, e.g. ~name/public_html/mySite can be reached through http://localhost/~name/mySite. How can I achieve, that the same path can be reached through http://mySite.name.localhost/? I don't want a manual approach like it is suggested in other SF questions (such as http://serverfault.com/q/133921/53624), but rather want an automatic mapping of all available paths to the corresponding URL. I think, several steps will need to be taken: Change mod_userdir configuration, so that the subdomain of localhost will be connected with all available user names on the machine. The second step would maybe include the usage of mod_rewrite, so that the subsubdomain could be matched to the path within ~name/public_html... What would be your prefered way?

• How to bind old user's SID to new user to remain NTFS file ownership and permissions after freshly reinstall of Windows?

  Each time we reinstalled Windows, it will create a new SID for user even the username is as same as before. // example (not real SID format, just show the problem) user SID -------------------- liuyan S-old-501 // old SID before reinstall liuyan S-new-501 // new SID after reinstall The annoying problem after reinstall is NTFS file owership and permissions on hard drive disk are still associated with old user's SID. I want to keep the ownership and permission setting of NTFS files, then want to let the new user take the old user's SID, so that I can access files as before without permission problem. The cacls command line tool can't be used in such situation, because the file does belongs to new user, so it will failed with Access is denied error. and it can't change ownership. Even if I can change the owership via SubInACL tool, cacls can't remove the old user's permission because the old user does not exist on new installation, and can't copy the old user's permission to new user. So, can we simply bind old user's SID to new user on the freshly installed Windows ?   I'm using a mod-rewrite for pretty URLs, meant to run on the domain root. Working fine but now I'm trying to make it run on a subdomain and it keeps giving "500 Internal Server Error". The subdomain automatically redirects to the folder with that name on my hosting account (sub.domain.com shows the content of domain.com/sub/). Does it fail because this request is already being mod-rewritten automatically or can I simply change something in the htaccess to address the subdomain instead?   I can't get my query string to work..please help... I know it is because I already have a mod rewrite to remove the .htm from the page name to return clean urls but I don't know what I need to do to accept a clean url and return the page.   I moved my images directory to a different folder, and now I want to redirect all images requests from that folder to the new one. I do not have access to the main configuraion file, so I'm doing this in a .htaccess. I tried this, and it works:     RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} old_dir/.+.(jpg|png|gif)$     RewriteRule old_dir/(.+[^/]+..+)$ $1 [L,PT] But since they have permanently moved, I want to do a proper redirect, so I added the [R] flag, like this:      %{REQUEST_URI} old_dir/.+.(jpg|png|gif)$     RewriteRule old_dir/(.+[^/]+..+)$ $1 [L,PT,R] But the server gets confused, and returns a 400, so I looked at the log file, and this is what happens:     strip per-dir prefix: C:/wamp/www/natrazyle/old_dir/images/banner.jpg - old_dir/images/banner.jpg     applying pattern 'old_dir/(.+[^/]+..+)$' to uri 'old_dir/images/banner.jpg'     rewrite 'old_dir/images/banner.jpg' - 'images/banner.jpg'     add per-dir prefix: images/banner.jpg - C:/wamp/www/natrazyle/images/banner.jpg     explicitly forcing redirect with http://localhost/C:/wamp/www/natrazyle/images/banner.jpg As you can see, the full local path gets added after localhost I know I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure it out myself. • How to sync files between local dir and remote dir without using an IDE?

  I'm running windows 7 and I have a working dir in my PC. I have my staging server that I only have FTPS (Explicit) access to. What I want... Everytime I change something in my local dir, I want my remote dir synced via FTPS method alone. SVN, CVS, GIT is not an option. I tried notepad++, eclipse and Netbeans and all couldn't work. In general, I don't want to rely on an IDE to achieve this task. And I don't want to install anything funny like rsync and I don't want to write scripts.

• Gnome Classic U 11.04 trash not working, can't find my trash dir

  I did an upgrade from U 10.10 to U 11.04. I can't upgrade further because Upgrade Manager says that there are unsupported packages. How do I find them? A more immediate problem is that trash stopped working even though "/.share/local/Trash is getting files removed by the file manager. The trash icon on the lower panel fails after having done the upgrade from Gnome 2 to Unity and using Gnome Classic, says "No Such File or Directory". File Operations says it is looking at "/". How do I reconfigure the trash icon to use my local trash dir? The trash dir is there, has the right permissons, I can "rm" the dir tree there, and recreate it by moving files to the trash from the file manager.

  I can only find mod rewrite examples/tutorials for query's, so can someone help me with this. I would like this http://website.tld/Folder1/Folder2/Folder3/Folder4/Folder5/File.exten to be transformed into http://website.tld/Folder4/File.exten Folder4 and Folder5 are multiple directories, while Folder 1-3 stay the same. Also File.exten also should be changeable in the rewrite. thanks.

  I'm consolidating my Xcode/TextMate setup and is interested in where you put your build dir. Some years ago I started out having the build dir in the same dir as my xcodeproj file. However it became a mess when my project became a multi project with a applications and frameworks and tests, so I started using ../build as the build dir, so that all the sub projects used the same dir. However Spotlight is indexing this build dir and TextMate's global find is unusable when there is a build dir in the project. I'm thinking either using ~/.build or /build as Xcode's build dir. What build dir do you use and why?

  I have a project that uses the moodle library. I had to change the URL from moodle.example.com to learn.example.com, due to a client request. I thought this would be an easy change, but alas moodle inserts all links and images in with the complete url instead of the relative url. Is it possible using mod-rewrite to point all requests to moodle.example.com to learn.example.com and maintain the query string? Example: I want a request to: http://moodle.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1 to go to http://learn.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1. Is this possible? Thanks, Josh

  I am using the following mod-rewrite in my .htaccess file: RewriteRule ^$ pages/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pages/$1 [L] The intention is to hide the subdirectory called /pages/ from displaying in the URL. So this: http://mysite.com/pages/home.html Will look like this: http://mysite.com/home.html It works but there are some unintended consequences. As a direct result of the .htaccess code I posted above, my 404 routing is no longer working at all. Anything that should trigger a 404 error page is instead generating a 500 Server Error. How to fix?

  Is it possible do do something like this with mod-rewrite? Current url: www.example.com/Departments/dynamicPage.php?DeptID=10&DeptName=HR to set up a rewrite so: www.example.com/hr could redirect to the above (with the arguments)? I know I could create an "hr" folder on the root level and put in an html page with a meta refresh, but I hate the extra clutter. I don't think a .htaccess 301 is possible, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm looking for an elegant solution that can be added to for future instances.
