• WCF Named Pipe IPC

  I have been trying to get up to speed on Named Pipes this week. The task I am trying to solve with them is that I have an existing windows service that is acting as a device driver that funnels data from an external device into a database. Now I have to modify this service and add an optional user front end (on the same machine, using a form of IPC) that can monitor the data as it passes between the device and the DB as well as send some commands back to the service. My initial ideas for the IPC were either named pipes or memory mapped files. So far I have been working through the named pipe idea using WCF Tutorial Basic Interprocess Communication . My idea is to set the Windows service up with an additional thread that implements the WCF NamedPipe Service and use that as a conduit to the internals of my driver. I have the sample code working, however I can not get my head around 2 issues that I am hoping that someone here can help me with: In the tutorial the ServiceHost is instantiated with a typeof(StringReverser) rather than by referencing a concrete class. Thus there seems to be no mechanism for the Server to interact with the service itself (between the host.Open() and host.Close() lines). Is it possible to create a link between and pass information between the server and the class that actually implements the service? If so, how? If I run a single instance of the server and then run multiple instance of the clients, it seems that each client gets a separate instance of the service class. I tried adding some state information to the class implementing the service and it was only retained within the instance of the named pipe. This is possibly related to the first question, but is there anyway to force the named pipes to use the same instance of the class that is implementing the service? Finally, any thoughts on MMF vs Named Pipes? Thanks for you help

  I activated following code with feature (web level scope). Now when i add an item to any document library it should create a folder "". No folder is created and no error is given either. can anyone see what's is going on? I got the following from the log file. • Django: Named URLs / Same Template, Different Named URL

  I have a webapp that lists all of my artists, albums and songs when the appropriate link is clicked. I make extensive use of generic views (object_list/detail) and named urls but I am coming across an annoyance. I have three templates that pretty much output the exact same html that look just like this: {% extends "base.html" %} {% block content %} <div id="content"> <ul id="starts-with"> {% for starts_with in starts_with_list %} <li><a href="{% url song_list_x starts_with %}">{{ starts_with|upper }}</a></li> {% endfor %} </ul> <ul> {% for song in songs_list %} <li>{{ song.title }}</li> {% endfor %} </ul> </div> {% endblock content %} My artist and album template look pretty much the same and I'd like to combine the three template's into one. The fact that my variables start with song can easily be changed to the default obj. It's my <ul id="starts-with"> named url I don't know how to correct. Obviously I want it to link to a specific album/artist/song using the named urls in my urls.py but I don't know how to make it context aware. • Ubuntu 11.10 - How can i stop self-feedback-loop, coming directly from my microphone to speaker?

  I have microphone audio, which comes instantly to my speaker. I am using default pulseaudio and alsa from the package. I have tried to setup: 1) PA /etc/pulse/default.pa /etc/asound.conf $ ls analog-input-aux.conf analog-input-fm.conf analog-input-mic.conf analog-input-tvtuner.conf analog-output-desktop-speaker.conf analog-output-mono.conf analog-input.conf analog-input-front-mic.conf analog-input-mic.conf.common analog-input-video.conf analog-output-headphones-2.conf analog-output-speaker.conf analog-input.conf.common analog-input-internal-mic.conf analog-input-mic-line.conf analog-output.conf analog-output-headphones.conf iec958-stereo-output.conf analog-input-dock-mic.conf analog-input-linein.conf analog-input-rear-mic.conf analog-output.conf.common analog-output-lfe-on-mono.conf 2) ALSA in lsmod to make sure no loopback modules are loaded etc but none is resolving it. And there are many less information available on this. Has anyone similar problem solution in Ubuntu 11.10? (this problem i have resolved in Ubuntu 11.04 by replacing the default pulseaudio version to latest source from git, but while trying the same in Ubuntu 11.10 does not worked). Any tips please?

• Using naked domain in apache, no "www" on domain in httpd.conf

  Incredibly there is no good tutorial or easy reference guide for using naked domains (no subdomain) as the primary URI online that I could find. I'm trying to configure this to happen in my httpd.conf in apache. Since I'm still a relative newb to this server stuff, trying to figure it out myself all I could do was configure some nasty redirect loops and error 400's. There's plenty of notes for the more common: http:// -- https:// and naked to -- www. and a ton of .htaccess stuff (not interested) What I want is http://www.domain.com -- http://domain.com The most helpful thing I found was this: Multiple domains (including www-"subdomain") on apache? I ended using the solution mentioned by ceejayoz in that post that some folks noted was messy and complicated because it got the desired result but I'd like to know the best practice for this in the future. I'd appreciate a nudge in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  I have an app that launches an authentication helper (my script) and uses STDIN/STDOUT to communicate. I want to re-direct STDIN and STDOUT from this script to two named pipes for interaction with another program. E.g.: SCRIPT_STDIN pipe1 SCRIPT_STDOUT < pipe2 Here is the flow I'm trying to accomplish: [Application] - Launches helper script, writes to helpers STDIN, reads from helpers STDOUT (example: STDIN:username,password; STDOUT:LOGIN_OK) [Helper Script] - Reads STDIN (data from app), forwards to PIPE1; reads from PIPE2, writes that back to the app on STDOUT [Other Process] - Reads from PIPE1 input, processes and returns results to PIPE2 The cat command can almost do what I want. If there were an option to copy STDIN to STDERR I could make cat do this with a command (assuming the fictitious option -e echos to STDERR rather than STDOUT): cat -e PIPE2 2PIPE1 (read from PIPE2 and write it to STDOUT, copy input, normally going to STDERR to PIPE1)

  Has anyone come across the use of this config for passwd and groups config in nsswitch.conf? Where I'm working I've been told it's been shown to help situations where a group exists both locally and in ldap which was causing issues for group memberships etc. However this config seems to totally mess up nscd which will be aware of the groups and all their members but will not flip the data around to say the user is a member of all it's remote groups. Initially it seems, given a fully available environment, to be exactly the same as [FOUND=return] which is an implict default between stages anyway. However apparently a lengthy ticket with Redhat resulted in the recommended use of that configuration.

  How can I disallow everything in a directory except any subdirectories that have a certain name using htaccess or even vhost.conf for the site? I have a protected main directory which contains subdirectories. Each of the subdirectories have another child dir named 'thumbs', that I want to allow people access to. In the thumbs folder I have files which all start with 'thumb_' prefix for the filename. So which approach to use, .htaccess FilesMatch or vhost DirectoryMatch? and what would be the code to use? • resolv.conf doesn't get set on reboot when networking is configured for static ip

  I'm experiencing, what appears to be a hostname resolution issue in ubuntu 12.04 server edition when configuring my computer to use a static ip. In /etc/network/interfaces: # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.28 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 Running $ sudo apt-get upgrade, results in a 'Failed to fetch...': . . . W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-backports/universe/i18n/Translation-en_US Something wicked happened resolving 'us.archive.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname) W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-backports/universe/i18n/Translation-en Something wicked happened resolving 'us.archive.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname) E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. When I change my /etc/network/interfaces to: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp Everything works fine. Looking into /etc/resolv.conf provides some more hints...In cases where I was getting the resolving issue, resolve.conf was empty. No nameservers were specified. When I changed to dhcp from static and restarted networking. /etc/resolv.conf gets written to: 'nameserver 192.168.1.1'. Switching back from dhcp to static and restarting doesn't remove the nameserve entry. When I restart the system with static set, resolv.conf is empty. When I restart the system with dhcp set, resolv.conf has nameserver 192.168.1.1. So it appears that the issue is that resolve.conf is not getting written to correctly? Which package/code is responsible for writing to resolv.conf? Is there a particular package that I can take a look at open issues?   My /etc/resolv.conf constantly get a mysterious entry, i run a home network with ipv6 provided by ravd, the interface is auto-configured by Network manager (all name server lookups are lost when this line is first in my /etc/resolv.conf) . Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) **# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN** nameserver fd00::1 nameserver 192.168.1.1 search home.int When ping is working cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 192.168.1.1 search home.int So something is putting fd00::1 at start of file, not if I ping6 fd00::1 I get Destination unreachable: Administratively prohibited To diagnose this I ran the router with single cable to connected to ubuntu machine. Ran tcpdump + restarted network on ubuntu. "tcpdump ip6 -e -i eth0 | grep fd00" finds nothing, it's not being advertised via the network.. The only hit I got was when an upstream router refused a connection attempt from the ubuntu machine to fd00::1. • Dual NVidia graphics cards in Ubuntu / xorg.conf mania

  I have two NVidia graphics cards: Quadro NVS 295 (PCI Express, dual DisplayPort outputs) GeForce FX 5200 (PCI, DVI and VGA outputs) I have three identical monitors, two on DisplayPort and one on DVI. I'm on Ubuntu Hardy (and cannot currently dist-upgrade for separate reasons). I use the "nvidia" driver. What's new is the GeForce card and the third monitor. I currently have the dual DisplayPort monitors working fine. What am I missing? How can I make nvidia-settings show my second GPU so I can then configure its monitor?

  I'm new to apache and httpd.conf The problem I'm having is I need different website to go to different vhost configs and if only the IP is requested it needs to go to the root index.html This works fine for the virtualhosts: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/bali-accommodation.co ServerName www.bali-accommodation.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/balibeach.co ServerName www.balibeach.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dating-website.co ServerName www.dating-website.co </VirtualHost> However when I just specify the IP it does to www.XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (appends the www). I know in the websites there is a .htaccess redirect that adds the www but I didn't want the IP to go into the vhosts config. I tried adding this to the top of the Vhost config: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName localhost </VirtualHost> with above it shows the index.html perfectly but all the websites go into this catch all. We didn't purchase an assited service plan so Godaddy won't help me with this.   I have a dozen or so named queries in my NHibernate project and I want to execute them against a test database in unit tests to make sure the syntax still matches the changing domain/database model. Currently I have a unit test for each named query where I get and execute the query, for example: IQuery query = session.GetNamedQuery("GetPersonSummaries"); var personSummaryArray = query.List(); Assert.That(personSummaryArray, Is.Not.Null); This works fine, but I would like to have one unit test that loops thru all of the named queries and executes them.   I've edited my conf.d/ssl.conf file and changed the TransferLog directive from: TransferLog logs/ssl_access_log to TransferLog "|/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60" (I am using 60 seconds for testing) Since that change and an httpd restart my original ssl_access_log is not updating and a new log was not generated. What am I missing? in my error log, I am receiving this message Could not open log file 'logs/ssl_access_log.2014-05-30.log' (No such file or directory) piped log program '/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60' failed unexpectedly

• Beware when using .NET's named pipes in a windows forms application

  Yesterday a user of our .net ORM Profiler tool reported that he couldn't get the snapshot recording from code feature working in a windows forms application. Snapshot recording in code means you start recording profile data from within the profiled application, and after you're done you save the snapshot as a file which you can open in the profiler UI. When using a console application it worked, but when a windows forms application was used, the snapshot was always empty: nothing was recorded. Obviously, I wondered why that was, and debugged a little. Here's an example piece of code to record the snapshot. This piece of code works OK in a console application, but results in an empty snapshot in a windows forms application: var snapshot = new Snapshot(); snapshot.Record(); using(var ctx = new ORMProfilerTestDataContext()) { var customers = ctx.Customers.Where(c => c.Country == "USA").ToList(); } InterceptorCore.Flush(); snapshot.Stop(); string error=string.Empty; if(!snapshot.IsEmpty) { snapshot.SaveToFile(@"c:\temp\generatortest\test2\blaat.opsnapshot", out error); } if(!string.IsNullOrEmpty(error)) { Console.WriteLine("Save error: {0}", error); } (the Console.WriteLine doesn't do anything in a windows forms application, but you get the idea). ORM Profiler uses named pipes: the interceptor (referenced and initialized in your application, the application to profile) sends data over the named pipe to a listener, which when receiving a piece of data begins reading it, asynchronically, and when properly read, it will signal observers that new data has arrived so they can store it in a repository. In this case, the snapshot will be the observer and will store the data in its own repository. The reason the above code doesn't work in windows forms is because windows forms is a wrapper around Win32 and its WM_* message based system. Named pipes in .NET are wrappers around Windows named pipes which also work with WM_* messages. Even though we use BeginRead() on the named pipe (which spawns a thread to read the data from the named pipe), nothing is received by the named pipe in the windows forms application, because it doesn't handle the WM_* messages in its message queue till after the method is over, as the message pump of a windows forms application is handled by the only thread of the windows forms application, so it will handle WM_* messages when the application idles. The fix is easy though: add Application.DoEvents(); right before snapshot.Stop(). Application.DoEvents() forces the windows forms application to process all WM_* messages in its message queue at that moment: all messages for the named pipe are then handled, the .NET code of the named pipe wrapper will react on that and the whole process will complete as if nothing happened. It's not that simple to just say 'why didn't you use a worker thread to create the snapshot here?', because a thread doesn't get its own message pump: the messages would still be posted to the window's message pump. A hidden form would create its own message pump, so the additional thread should also create a window to get the WM_* messages of the named pipe posted to a different message pump than the one of the main window. This WM_* messages pain is not something you want to be confronted with when using .NET and its libraries. Unfortunately, the way they're implemented, a lot of APIs are leaky abstractions, they bleed the characteristics of the OS objects they hide away through to the .NET code. Be aware of that fact when using them :)

  So what we are looking for is the ability to do the following: We have an application that can load certain settings based on the domain that it is being accessed from. So if you come from xyz.com we show a different logo and if you come from abc.com we show a different logo. The code is the same, running from same server just detects the domain on the run Now we want to get a dedicated server (any suggestions?) that will enable us to point all the doamins that we want to this server (we change the DNS for the domains to that of our server) and then when the user goes to a certain domain they run the same application. Now as far as I can understand we will need to create a "VirtualHost" in apache to handle this. Can we create a wildcard virtualhost that catches all the domains? I am not an expert with Apache at all. So please forgive if this comes out to be a silly question. Any detailed help would be great. Thanks

• Named pipe is not flushing in Python

  I have a named pipe created via the os.mkfifo() command. I have two different Python processes accessing this named pipe, process A is reading, and process B is writing. Process A uses the select function to determine when there is data available in the fifo/pipe. Despite the fact that process B flushes after each write call, process A's select function does not always return (it keeps blocking as if there is no new data). After looking into this issue extensively, I finally just programmed process B to add 5KB of garbage writes before and after my real call, and likewise process A is programmed to ignore those 5KB. Now everything works fine, and select is always returning appropriately. I came to this hack-ish solution by noticing that process A's select would return if process B were to be killed (after it was writing and flushing, it would sleep on a read pipe). Is there a problem with flush in Python for named pipes?
