  • Can I flip the coordinate system without flipping text in iTextSharp?

    - by I. J. Kennedy
I have some chart-creating code written for a coordinate system in which a y-coordinate of 0 is the top of the page. We are now converting to iTextSharp, which uses the conventional system from mathematics where a y-coordinate of 0 is the bottom of the page. There are many calculations involved in producing the chart and I'd like to not mess with those calculations. I can partially "fix" the problem by transforming iTextSharp's coordinate system like this: pdfContentByte.ConcatCTM(1f, 0f, 0f, -1f, 0f, pdfDoc.PageSize.Height); This works great for lines, rectangles, and circles, but the text is now upside down! Is there a way to remedy this, using SetTextMatrix or otherwise?

  • Is it safe to reuse javax.xml.ws.Service objects

    - by Noel Ang
I have JAX-WS style web service client that was auto-generated with the NetBeans IDE. The generated proxy factory (extends javax.xml.ws.Service) delegates proxy creation to the various Service.getPort methods. The application that I am maintaining instantiates the factory and obtains a proxy each time it calls the targetted service. Creating the new proxy factory instances repeatedly has been shown to be expensive, given that the WSDL documentation supplied to the factory constructor, an HTTP URI, is re-retrieved for each instantiation. We had success in improving the performance by caching the WSDL. But this has ugly maintenance and packaging implications for us. I would like to explore the suitability of caching the proxy factory itself. Is it safe, e.g., can two different client classes, executing on the same JVM and targetting the same web service, safely use the same factory to obtain distinct proxy objects (or a shared, reentrant one)? I've been unable to find guidance from either the JAX-WS specification nor the javax.xml.ws API documentation. The factory-proxy multiplicity is unclear to me. Having Service.getPort rather than Service.createPort does not inspire confidence.

  • How can a Windows program temporarily change its time zone?

    - by Rob Kennedy
I've written a function to return the time_t value corresponding to midnight on a given day. When there is no midnight for a given day, it returns the earliest time available; that situation can occur, for example, when Egypt enters daylight-saving time. This year, the time change takes effect at midnight on the night of April 29, so the clock goes directly from 23:59 to 01:00. Now I'm writing unit tests for this function, and one of the tests should replicate the Egypt scenario. In Unix, I can accomplish it like this: putenv("TZ", "Egypt", true); tzset(); After doing that, further calls to localtime behave as if they're in Egypt instead of Minnesota, and my tests pass. Merely setting the environment variable doesn't have any effect on Windows, though. What can I do to make the unit test think it's somewhere else without affecting the rest of the programs running on the system?

  • Simplest way to update a client-side javascript array variable during a ASP.NET AJAX postback in an

    - by Noel
If I want to inject a globally scoped array variable into a page's client-side javascript during a full page postback, I can use: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration("WorkCalendar", "\"" + date.ToShortDateString() + "\""); to declare and populate a client-side javascript array on the page. Nice and simple. But I want to do the same from a async postback from an UpdatePanel. The closest I can figure so far is to create a .js file that just contains the var declaration, update the file during the async postback, and then use a ScriptManagerProxy.Scripts.Add to add the .js file to the page's global scope. Is there anything simpler? r iz doin it wrong?

  • MPI4Py Scatter sendbuf Argument Type?

    - by Noel
I'm having trouble with the Scatter function in the MPI4Py Python module. My assumption is that I should be able to pass it a single list for the sendbuffer. However, I'm getting a consistent error message when I do that, or indeed add the other two arguments, recvbuf and root: File "code/step3.py", line 682, in subbox_grid i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, station_data) File "Comm.pyx", line 427, in mpi4py.MPI.Comm.Scatter (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:44993) File "message.pxi", line 321, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_scatter (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:14497) File "message.pxi", line 232, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_cco_send (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:13630) File "message.pxi", line 36, in mpi4py.MPI.message_simple (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:11904) ValueError: message: expecting 2 or 3 items Here is the relevant code snipped, starting a few lines above 682 mentioned above. for station in stations #snip--do some stuff with station station_data = [] station_range = range(1,len(station)) mpi_communicator = MPI.COMM_WORLD i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, nsm) #snip--do some stuff with station[i] nsm = combine(avg, wt, dnew, nf1, nl1, wti[i], wtm, station[i].id) station_data = mpi_communicator.Gather(station_range, nsm) I've tried a number of combinations initializing station_range, but I must not be understanding the Scatter argument types properly. Does a Python/MPI guru have a clarification this?

  • Disable designer in Visual Studio?

    - by I. J. Kennedy
I'm using Visual C# Express to write Windows Form applications, and call me old school, but I don't like the designer. It is a nuisance and pollutes my project with lots of unwanted files, as well as unwanted monkey-generated source code. Please please please tell me there's a way to turn it off completely.

I'm able to do a document.write(getMacAddress()) and it would able to display the mac address nicely. 1) Why my explorer will keep refreshing non-stop when i code it manually with "123" 2) why is the document.write able to display out, and when i store it to the cookie, somehow it didnt mange to capture into the cookie and it return a value of "1". Anyone help? create_users.php <script language="JavaScript"> function getMacAddress(){ document.macaddressapplet.setSep( "-" ); return (document.macaddressapplet.getMacAddress()); } function setCookie(c_name,value) { document.cookie = c_name + "=" +escape(value); } //error checking //var mac = getMacAddress(); var mac = "123"; setCookie('cookie_name',mac); window.location = "checkAvailability.php"; </script> checkAvailability.php $javascript_cookie_value = isset($_COOKIE["cookie_name"]) ? $_COOKIE["cookie_name"] : 1; mysql_query("INSERT INTO test (mac) VALUES ('$javascript_cookie_value')");

  • Select Top N Records Ordered by X, But Have Results in Reverse Order

    - by I. J. Kennedy
I'm trying to get the top N records (when ordered by some column X), but have the result set in reverse order. The following statement is incorrect, but probably demonstrates what I'm after: SELECT * FROM (SELECT TOP 10 * FROM FooTable ORDER BY X DESC) ORDER BY X ASC For example, column X could be an ID or a timestamp; I want the latest 10 records but want them returned in forward chronological order.

  • How to Make a Game like Space Invaders - Ray Wenderlich (why do my space invaders scroll off screen)

    - by Erv Noel
I'm following this tutorial(http://www.raywenderlich.com/51068/how-to-make-a-game-like-space-invaders-with-sprite-kit-tutorial-part-1) and I've run into a problem right after the part where I add [self determineInvaderMovementDirection]; to my GameScene.m file (specifically to my moveInvadersForUpdate method) The tutorial states that the space invaders should be moving accordingly after adding this piece of code but when I run they move to the left and they do not come back. • How do I prevent WIX CAQuietExec from logging the command line?

    - by Noel Abrahams
In order to prevent command windows from popping up during installation I am using the WIX built-in custom action CAQuietExec. First I define the command line: <CustomAction Id="A01" Property="QtExecCmdLine" Value="&quot;MyExe.exe&quot; /password [PASSWORD]" /> NB: The PASSWORD property is defined as Hidden. This prevents the Windows installer from writing the property value to the log. Then I call into the embedded WIX extension: <CustomAction Id="A02" BinaryKey="WixCA" DllEntry="CAQuietExec" Execute="immediate" Return="ignore" /> This works fine. However, when I go to the temp folder and open up the MSI log I see the following entry: CAQuietExec: "C:\Program Files\MyExe.exe" /password INCLEARTEXT I.e. the password is displayed in clear text and not hidden. How do I prevent the CAQuietExec from logging the password in clear text?

  • How can I tell Visual Studio to not catch a particular exception?

    - by Noel Kennedy
I have a particular type of exception that I would like Visual Studio to not catch with the Exception Assistant. Essentially I would like it just to let my normal exception handling infrastructure deal with it. The exception is an inheritor of System.Exception which I wrote and have the source code for. Any where this is thrown I want VS to not catch it, ie it is not useful to just supress a single throw new BlahException(); in code. This is because the exception is thrown a lot, and I don't want to have to supress every single instance individually. In case it makes a difference I am on Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, Framework 3.5 SP1.

  • Small, editable table of strings. Which Forms control do I want? (.NET)

I have a small array of structs, each struct has three fields, all strings. I want to display these structs in a grid, let the user edit the strings a la Excel, and then retrieve the edited strings of course. Which WinForms control is best for this? Tried a DataGridView but setting the DataSource to the array of structs doesn't seem to work. There are myriad controls with similar names but I can't figure out what does what. All the examples I've found are geared toward using a database as the data source--I just have a simple array.

  • Are there localization tools which spot content strings in xaml/wpf?

    - by Noel Kennedy
When globalizing a wpf application with static resx classes, it's very easy to miss the odd label or button that has its Content property set to a hard coded string in a particular language, ie English. These should of course be moved off to a {x:Static ...} so they can be localised for each culture. Are there any tools which can spot this and warn you? Built in to VS would be ideal, but I'm thinking that 'style cop' type build tools would do the job as well.

The sublists can be of different sizes (i.e. 4 and 5, here) I want to sort by comparing the first time string in each sublist (sublist[-4]) x = (['1513', '08:19PM', '10:21PM', 1, 4], ['1290', '09:45PM', '11:43PM', 1, 4], ['0690', '07:25AM', '09:19AM', 1, 4], ['0201', '08:50AM', '10:50AM', 1, 4], ['1166', '04:35PM', '06:36PM', 1, 4], ['0845', '05:40PM', '07:44PM', 1, 4], ['1267', '07:05PM', '09:07PM', 1, 4], ['1513', '08:19PM', '10:21PM', 1, 4], ['1290', '09:45PM', '11:43PM', 1, 4], ['8772', '0159', '12:33PM', '02:43PM', 1, 5], ['0888', '0570', '09:42PM', '12:20AM', 1, 5], ['2086', '2231', '04:10PM', '06:20PM', 1, 5]) The sorted result would be sortedX = (['0690', '07:25AM', '09:19AM', 1, 4], ['0201', '08:50AM', '10:50AM', 1, 4], ['1166', '04:35PM', '06:36PM', 1, 4], ['0845', '05:40PM', '07:44PM', 1, 4], ['1267', '07:05PM', '09:07PM', 1, 4], ['1513', '08:19PM', '10:21PM', 1, 4], ['1513', '08:19PM', '10:21PM', 1, 4], ['1290', '09:45PM', '11:43PM', 1, 4], ['1290', '09:45PM', '11:43PM', 1, 4], ['8772', '0159', '12:33PM', '02:43PM', 1, 5], ['2086', '2231', '04:10PM', '06:20PM', 1, 5], ['0888', '0570', '09:42PM', '12:20AM', 1, 5]) I tried the following: sortedX = sorted(x, key=lambda k : k[-4]) #k[-4] is the first time string and it works but it doesn't respect the sublist size ordering
