clickButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Intent myIntent = new Intent(v.getContext(), MyPreferencesActivity.class); startActivity(myIntent); } }); } }; Anyone has an idea why the App crashes. Any help is much appreciated. I did find out that, when I finish() the MAIN activity when I start the FriendListActivity and restart the MAIN activity when closing the FriendListActivity, that the crash does not occur. However, this basically restarts the App and that is not the intention. Thanks all, I got the problem solved. This is what I did. . When moving all gallery related actions to the onCreate, the creash didn't happen anymore. But then after returning to the MAIN activity, the activity wasn't shown. . I then moved all the onCreate (except the super), the generateGallery, and the onStart() to the onResume. Now it works fine!

  • Sending an SMS in Android

    - by D4N14L
Hey, I have been making an Android app which needs to send a text message. Here is the current code I have: public class getMessage extends Service { @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) { return null; } @Override public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) { super.onStart(intent, startId); client Phone = new client(); String[] msg = Phone.getMsg(user[0],user[1]); PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, new Intent(this, getMessage.class), 0); SmsManager man = SmsManager.getDefault(); Log.e("GOT MESSAGE", msg[0]+ " : " +msg[1]); man.sendTextMessage(msg[0], null, msg[1], pi, null); Log.e("Message", "Sent the message?"); } Now, for some reason, the text message will not send using this code, and I'm not sure why. I was hoping that someone here could help me out in finding why this message won't send. No error is raised, nothing appears in the log (except for the log messages that I make myself in the code). Also, the manifest does have the correct tags. Suggestions?

  • Azure November CTP updates

    - by kaleidoscope
Below some modifications to be noted, which were shipped in latest Nov CTP. 1. StorageClient class has been deprecated. We can now find StorageClient methods in Microsoft.WindowsAzure.StorageClient.  CloudStorageAccount (which replaces the StorageAccountInfo from July CTP. 2. The basic interface for RoleEntryPoint (from which we inherit our Web Role and WorkerRole) has been changed in Nov CTP. Now we have 3 new methods called OnStart (), OnStop () and Run (). The methods that have been discontinued are Start() and Stop() You can find more information on RoleEntryPoint at : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.windowsazure.serviceruntime.roleentrypoint.aspx\ Lokesh, M

  • Detailed android activity lifecycle (onAttachedToWindow())

    - by Ralkie
I'm interested in android activity lifecycle and I would like to get more detailed description/documentation/reference than widely available basic (onCreate-onStart-onResume) one. My need comes from realizing that starting new activity (Theme.Dialog styled) from onAttachedToWindow() greatly improves response time if comparing to starting it from onCreate(). I wonder how this onAttachedToWindow() fits into whole android activity lifecycle. Official API ref description "Called when the window has been attached to the window manager" doesn't help a lot.

  • Hosting a WCF Service Lib through a Windows service get a System.InvalidOperationException: attempti

    - by JohnL
I have a WCF Service Library containing five service contracts. The library is hosted through a Windows Service. Most if not all my configuration for the WCF Library is declaritive. The only thing I am doing in code for configuration is to pass the type of the class implementing the service contracts into ServiceHost. I then call Open on each of the services during the Windows Service OnStart event. Here is the error message I get: Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: Service '[Fubu.Conversion.Service1' has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no service element matching the service name could be found in the configuration file, or because no endpoints were defined in the service element. at System.ServiceModel.Description.DispatcherBuilder.EnsureThereAreNonMexEndpoints(ServiceDescription description) at System.ServiceModel.Description.DispatcherBuilder.InitializeServiceHost(ServiceDescription description, ServiceHostBase serviceHost) at System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostBase.InitializeRuntime() at System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostBase.OnBeginOpen() at System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostBase.OnOpen(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open() at Fubu.RemotingHost.RemotingHost.StartServ... protected override void OnStart(string[] args) { // Uncomment to debug this properly //System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break(); StartService1(); StartService2(); StartService3(); StartService4(); StartService5(); } Each of the above simply do the following: private void StartSecurityService() { host = new ServiceHost(typeof(Service1)); host.Open(); } Service Lib app.congfig summary <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="DefaultServiceBehavior" name="Fubu.Conversion.Service1"> <endpoint address="" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="TCPBindingConfig" name="Service1" bindingName="TCPEndPoint" contract="Fubu.Conversion.IService1"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="" name="mexSecurity" bindingName="TcpMetaData" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.tcp://localhost:8025/Fubu/Conversion/Service1/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> ... The notification appears when it must appear. BUT if the time HAS past (let's assume it is 10.31 AM) the notification fires every time... when I close and re-open the app, when I click on the notification... it has a really strange behavior. I can't figure out what's wrong in it. Can you help me please (and explain why, if you find a solution), thanks in advance :)

  • Update UI in the main activity through handler in a thread (Android)

Hello, I try to make several connection in a class and update the multiple progressbar in the main screen. My first progressbar is hidden but the second one is not displayed. I think I've done somthing wrong using the threads and handlers but I dont' know why. I was first using handler.sendMessage in place of handler.handleMessage but when I had several task in my connectionManager, the progressbar was updated only at the end of all tasks. Thank you in advance for your help

  • Update UI from an event with a thread

    - by tyrone-tudehope
Im working on a small application to try out an idea that I have. The idea is to periodically update the UI when event of some sort occurs. In the demo I've created, I'm updating a ProgressDialog every 2 seconds for 15 turns. The problem I am having, which I don't quite understand is that when an event is handled, I send a message to the handler which is supposed to update the message in the ProgressDialog. When this happens however, I get an exception which states that I can't update the UI from that thread. The following code appears in my Activity: ProgressDialog diag; String diagMessage = "Started loading..."; final static int MESSAGE_DATA_RECEIVED = 0; final static int MESSAGE_RECEIVE_COMPLETED = 1; final Handler handler = new Handler(){ @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg){ diag.setMessage(diagMessage); switch(msg.what){ case MESSAGE_DATA_RECEIVED: break; case MESSAGE_RECEIVE_COMPLETED: dismissDialog(); killDialog(); break; } } }; Boolean isRunning = false; /** * Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setupDialog(); if(isRunning){ showDialog(); } setContentView(R.layout.main); } void setupDialog(){ if(diag == null){ diag = new ProgressDialog(ThreadLoading.this); diag.setMessage(diagMessage); } } void showDialog(){ isRunning = true; if(diag != null && !diag.isShowing()){ diag.show(); } } void dismissDialog(){ if(diag != null && diag.isShowing()){ diag.dismiss(); } } void killDialog(){ isRunning = false; } public void onStart(){ super.onStart(); showDialog(); Thread background = new Thread(new Runnable(){ public void run(){ try{ final ThreadRunner tr = new ThreadRunner(); tr.setOnDataReceivedListener(new ThreadRunner.OnDataReceivedListener(){ public void onDataReceived(String message){ diagMessage = message; handler.handleMessage(handler.obtainMessage(MESSAGE_DATA_RECEIVED)); } }); tr.setOnDataDownloadCompletedEventListener(new ThreadRunner.OnDataDownloadCompletedListener(){ public void onDataDownloadCompleted(String message){ diagMessage = message; handler.handleMessage(handler.obtainMessage(MESSAGE_RECEIVE_COMPLETED)); } }); tr.runProcess(); } catch(Throwable t){ throw new RuntimeException(t); } } }); background.start(); } @Override public void onPause(){ super.onPause(); dismissDialog(); } For curiosity sake, here's the code for the ThreadRunner class: public interface OnDataReceivedListener { public void onDataReceived(String message); } public interface OnDataDownloadCompletedListener { public void onDataDownloadCompleted(String message); } private OnDataReceivedListener onDataReceivedEventListener; private OnDataDownloadCompletedListener onDataDownloadCompletedEventListener; int maxLoop = 15; int loopCount = 0; int sleepTime = 2000; public void setOnDataReceivedListener(OnDataReceivedListener onDataReceivedListener){ this.onDataReceivedEventListener = onDataReceivedListener; } public void setOnDataDownloadCompletedEventListener(OnDataDownloadCompletedListener onDataDownloadCompletedListener){ this.onDataDownloadCompletedEventListener = onDataDownloadCompletedListener; } public void runProcess(){ for(loopCount = 0; loopCount < maxLoop; loopCount++){ try{ Thread.sleep(sleepTime); onDataReceivedEventListener.onDataReceived(Integer.toString(loopCount)); } catch(Throwable t){ throw new RuntimeException(t); } } onDataDownloadCompletedEventListener.onDataDownloadCompleted("Download is completed"); } Am I missing something? The logic makes sense to me and it looks like everything should work, I'm using a handler to update the UI like it is recommended. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Tyrone P.S. I'm developing for Android 1.5

  • Android - Resuming application state - SL4A

    - by toyotajon93
please dont harpoon me for a noob-ish question. I am working on an android application using SL4A, when my application starts it runs in the background while the script is being executed. I'm not sure where to start but each time I click my icon, it re-starts my application. I have tried using different launchmodes with nothing different happening. I'm thinking it has to do with the OnCreate code, and the setting of the notification. I need help saving my application state and then resuming on either re-click of icon or click from notification bar. I've tried everything had to turn here for help. I am not a pro at android programming by any means. Thanks guys, be gentle ;) Public void onCreate() { super.onCreate(); mInterpreterConfiguration = ((BaseApplication) getApplication()) .getInterpreterConfiguration(); } @Override public void onStart(Intent intent, final int startId) { super.onStart(intent, startId); String fileName = Script.getFileName(this); Interpreter interpreter = mInterpreterConfiguration .getInterpreterForScript(fileName); if (interpreter == null || !interpreter.isInstalled()) { mLatch.countDown(); if (FeaturedInterpreters.isSupported(fileName)) { Intent i = new Intent(this, DialogActivity.class); i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); i.putExtra(Constants.EXTRA_SCRIPT_PATH, fileName); startActivity(i); } else { Log .e(this, "Cannot find an interpreter for script " + fileName); } stopSelf(startId); return; } // Copies script to internal memory. fileName = InterpreterUtils.getInterpreterRoot(this).getAbsolutePath() + "/" + fileName; File script = new File(fileName); // TODO(raaar): Check size here! if (!script.exists()) { script = FileUtils.copyFromStream(fileName, getResources() .openRawResource(Script.ID)); } copyResourcesToLocal(); // Copy all resources if (Script.getFileExtension(this) .equals(HtmlInterpreter.HTML_EXTENSION)) { HtmlActivityTask htmlTask = ScriptLauncher.launchHtmlScript(script, this, intent, mInterpreterConfiguration); mFacadeManager = htmlTask.getRpcReceiverManager(); mLatch.countDown(); stopSelf(startId); } else { mProxy = new AndroidProxy(this, null, true); mProxy.startLocal(); mLatch.countDown(); ScriptLauncher.launchScript(script, mInterpreterConfiguration, mProxy, new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { mProxy.shutdown(); stopSelf(startId); } }); } } RpcReceiverManager getRpcReceiverManager() throws InterruptedException { mLatch.await(); if (mFacadeManager==null) { // Facade manage may not be available on startup. mFacadeManager = mProxy.getRpcReceiverManagerFactory() .getRpcReceiverManagers().get(0); } return mFacadeManager; } @Override protected Notification createNotification() { Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.script_logo_48, this.getString(R.string.loading), System.currentTimeMillis()); // This contentIntent is a noop. • How can I set up .NET UnhandledException handling in a Windows service?

The exception pops up saying that it is unhandled, and then the service stops. I even tried putting some code in the event handler, in case it was getting optimized away. Is this not the proper way to set up unhandled exception handling in a windows service?

  • SocketException preventing use of C# TCPListener in Windows Service

    - by JoeGeeky
I have a Windows Service that does the following when started. When running via a Console application it works fine, but once I put in a Windows Service I get the below exception. Here is what I have tried so far: Disabled the firewall, also tried adding explicit exclusions for the exe, port, and protocol Checked CAS Policy Config, shows unrestricted rights Configured the Service to run as an Administrator Account, Local System, Local Service, and Network Service, each with the same result Tried different ports Also tried 127.0.0.1 just to see... same issue This is wrecking my head, so any help would be greatly appreciated: The Code: var _listener = new TcpListener(endpoint); //192.168.2.2:20000 _listener.Start(); The resulting Exception: Service cannot be started. • Base class for windows service

    - by user187020
My new project has a design in which there are number windows services for performing different tasks. I have been given a task to create base class from which all of the windows service will inherit. This base class will perform common functions like creating instances of other windows services by iterating through the config file (may be like Activator.CreateInstance), do event logging on onStart, onStop etc. and may contain some more functionality. Before I start developing stuff, wondering if there is any pattern already in place or someone has good understanding of how to implement this kind of functionality. Any help appreciated.

  • Install windows service without InstallUtil.exe

    - by annelie
Hi, I'm trying to deploy a windows service but not quite sure how to do it right. I built it as a console app to start with, I've now turned it into a windows service project and just call my class from the OnStart method in the service. I now need to install this on a server which doesn't have Visual Studio on it, which if I've understood it correctly means I can't use the InstallUtil.exe and have to create an installer class instead. Is this correct? I did have a look at a previous question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/255056/install-a-net-windows-service-without-installutil-exe, but I just want to make sure I've understood it correctly. If I create the class that question's accepted answer links to, what is the next step? Upload MyService.exe and MyService.exe.config to the server, double click the exe file and Bob's my uncle? The service will only ever be installed on one server. Thanks, Annelie
