  • ORA-01019 error only as an administrator

    - by Mike
    I'm having a strange problem. I've installed the Oracle 10g client on a terminal server running Windows Server 2008R2. When I try to connect to Oracle, using, say, Toad, I receive the error "ORA-01019 unable to allocate memory in the user side". But this only happens if I'm logged in as an administrator. If I connect as a normal user, I can connect without issue. Also -- if a normal user is connected, I can then connect without a problem as an administrator. Any thoughts?

  • Oracle logical standby fails with ORA-01919

    - by DCookie
    I have an Oracle logical standby database being managed via data guard. Just this morning the redo apply process began failing with an ORA-01919 error, indicating one of our application roles did not exist. However, I can see the role on both primary and standby databases. We also have a physical standby that has long since applied the redo where this is happening on the logical, without issue. I have opened an SR with Oracle. I was wondering if anyone out there has seen this before. I guess I should mention: Oracle 10.2.0.4, Win2003 Server SP2. UPDATE: So far, Oracle Support has not provided an answer. I thought I'd post here what I have learned so far. It appears that a grant of DBA on the primary host to a role works fine for users granted the role. It does not work on the logical standby. IOW: create role TEST; grant dba to TEST; grant TEST to auser; connect auser set role TEST; grant <existing role> to <existing user>; This works on the primary instance but fails on the logical. A workaround appears to be to grant each role on the primary to the role TEST with admin option in the logical: grant <existing role> to TEST with admin option; <== do this on the logical standby Then the command works on the logical standby.

  • Oracle Linked Server error: ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed

    - by Chenster
    I have a linked server on SQL Server that talks to Oracle. Executing the following sql statement using Openquery SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(finance, 'select * from KFRI.VW_XREF_PROJECTS') will get error as the following: OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "finance" returned message "ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "finance". I tried to set : SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE) in {$ORACLE_HOME}\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora. It did not help. What's interesting is my coworker is able to execute the exactly same query successfully on his machine without a hitch. Any tips on how to fix this is greatly appreciated!!

  • How to recreate spfile on Exadata?

    - by Bandari Huang
    Copy spfile from the ASM diskgroup to local disk by using the ASMCMD command line tool.  ASMCMD> pwd +DATA_DM01/EDWBASE ASMCMD> ls -l Type Redund Striped Time Sys Name Y CONTROLFILE/ Y DATAFILE/ Y ONLINELOG/ Y PARAMETERFILE/ Y TEMPFILE/ N spfileedwbase.ora => +DATA_DM01/EDWBASE/PARAMETERFILE/spfile.355.800017117 ASMCMD> cp +DATA_DM01/EDWBASE/spfileedwbase.ora /home/oracle/spfileedwbase.ora.bak Copy the context from spfileedwbase.ora.bak to initedwbase.ora except garbled character. Using above initedwbase.ora, start one of the RAC instances to the mount phase.   SQL> startup mount pfile=/home/oracle/initedwbase.ora Ensure one of the database instances is mounted before attempting to recreate the spfile.  SQL> select INSTANCE_NAME,HOST_NAME,STATUS from v$instance; INSTANCE_NAME HOST_NAME  STATUS ------------- ---------  ------ edwbase1      dm01db01   MOUNTED Create the new spfile. SQL> create spfile='+DATA_DM01/EDWBASE/spfileedwbase.ora' from pfile='/home/oracle/initedwbase.ora'; ASMCMD will show that a new spfile has been created as the alias spfilerac2.ora is now pointing to a new spfile under the PARAMETER directory in ASM. • workaround for ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

    - by Jefferstone
    The call to TEST_FUNCTION below fails with "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel". A workaround is presented in TEST_FUNCTION2. I boiled down the code as my actual function is far more complex. Tested on Oracle 11G. Anyone have any idea why the first function fails? CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "EMPLOYEE" AS OBJECT ( employee_id NUMBER(38), hire_date DATE ); CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "EMPLOYEE_TABLE" AS TABLE OF EMPLOYEE; CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION RETURN EMPLOYEE_TABLE IS table1 EMPLOYEE_TABLE; table2 EMPLOYEE_TABLE; return_table EMPLOYEE_TABLE; BEGIN SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT user_id, created FROM all_users WHERE LOWER(username) < 'm' ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO table1 FROM dual; SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT user_id, created FROM all_users WHERE LOWER(username) >= 'm' ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO table2 FROM dual; SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT employee_id, hire_date FROM TABLE(table1) UNION SELECT employee_id, hire_date FROM TABLE(table2) ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO return_table FROM dual; RETURN return_table; END TEST_FUNCTION; CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION2 RETURN EMPLOYEE_TABLE IS table1 EMPLOYEE_TABLE; table2 EMPLOYEE_TABLE; return_table EMPLOYEE_TABLE; BEGIN SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT user_id, created FROM all_users WHERE LOWER(username) < 'm' ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO table1 FROM dual; SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT user_id, created FROM all_users WHERE LOWER(username) >= 'm' ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO table2 FROM dual; WITH combined AS ( SELECT employee_id, hire_date FROM TABLE(table1) UNION SELECT employee_id, hire_date FROM TABLE(table2) ) SELECT CAST(MULTISET ( SELECT * FROM combined ) AS EMPLOYEE_TABLE) INTO return_table FROM dual; RETURN return_table; END TEST_FUNCTION2; SELECT * FROM TABLE (TEST_FUNCTION()); -- Throws exception ORA-03113.   • Recursive SQL giving ORA-01790

    - by PenFold
    Using Oracle 11g release 2, the following query gives an ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression: with intervals(time_interval) AS (select trunc(systimestamp) from dual union all select (time_interval + numtodsinterval(10, 'Minute')) from intervals where time_interval < systimestamp) select time_interval from intervals; The error suggests that the datatype of both subqueries of the UNION ALL are returning different datatypes. Even if I cast to TIMESTAMP in each of the subqueries, then I get the same error. What am I missing?

  • MVC using ODP.NET getting ORA-01840

    - by sse
    I am writing a simple MVC Application using ODP.NET. I am trying to call a Pl/Sql proc that inserts a record. Here is the simple Pl/Sql: procedure spAddCountry(pGisRecid in country.GISRECID%type, pCountryCode in country.COUNTRYCODE%type, pCountryName in country.COUNTRYNAME%type, pCurrencyCode in country.CURRENCYCODE%type, pEUTerritory in country.EUTERRITORY%type, pFatCAStatus in country.FATCASTATUS%type, pFATF in country.FATF%type, pFSCountryCode in country.COUNTRYCODE%type, pInsertedBy in country.INSERTEDBY%type, pInsertedOn in country.INSERTEDON%type, pLanguages in country.LANGUAGES%type, pNCCT in country.NCCT%type) is PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION; begin INSERT INTO COUNTRY (GISRECID, COUNTRYCODE, COUNTRYNAME, CURRENCYCODE, EUTERRITORY, FATCASTATUS, FATF, FSCOUNTRYCODE, INSERTEDBY, INSERTEDON, LANGUAGES, NCCT) VALUES(pGISRECID, pCOUNTRYCODE, pCOUNTRYNAME, pCURRENCYCODE, pEUTERRITORY, pFATCASTATUS, pFATF, pFSCOUNTRYCODE, pINSERTEDBY, pINSERTEDON, pLANGUAGES, pNCCT); Commit; end; I am having difficulty passing the date parameter, pInsertedOn, to the Stored Proc. I have verified that the web form retrieves the form data successfully and calls the AddCountry method below, which in turns calls the stored proc, spAddCountry, after populating all of the parms. Here is a snippet of the MVC C# code. I get the following exception: "ORA-01840 input value not long enough for date format". public void AddCountry(Country aCountry) //because the country object field names match the form field names they automatically get bound!! { string oradb = "Data Source=XYZ;User Id=XYZ;Password=xyz;"; OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(oradb); OracleCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "tstpack.spAddCountry"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; ... OracleParameter paramInsertedBy = new OracleParameter(); paramInsertedBy.ParameterName = "pInsertedBy"; paramInsertedBy.Value = aCountry.InsertedBy; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramInsertedBy); // CultureInfo ci = new CultureInfo("en-US"); OracleParameter paramInsertedOn = new OracleParameter(); paramInsertedOn.ParameterName = "pInsertedOn"; // paramInsertedOn.Value = DateTime.Now; //just testing to see if it's WebForm issue // paramInsertedOn.Value = Convert.ToDateTime(DateTime.Now.ToString(), ci); //flail! paramInsertedOn.Value = aCountry.InsertedOn; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramInsertedOn); ... conn.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); //CRASH! ORA-01840 conn.Close(); } Just to verify that the flow of the program is working, I tried removing the date parm "pInsertedOn" from the pl/sql and from the parm list above, and everything worked fine. I know I am going off of the rails with the date. Can someone tell me how to pass a date to Oracle from an MVC WebForm? Is there some sort of type cast needed? I would really appreciate an example too. Thanks so much! ps, I did try changing the parm type to Varchar2 in the Pl/Sql and doing some conversions myself in the Pl/Sql, the automatic MVC binder was getting in my way, forcing the property of paramInsertedOn.OracleType to DateTime. I tried forcing it to Varchar2, but no luck there either...

  • ORA-22835 using JPA (Buffer too small)

    - by Kenneth
    I am trying to persist an Entity with a @Lob annotated String field. The content of that fiels if bigger than the 40k buffer size limit. The first problem I had was related to the setString method used internally by the JPA implementation (Hibernate in my case) and the Oracle JDBC Driver. This problem was solved adding <property name="hibernate.connection.SetBigStringTryClob" value="true"/> to my persistence.xml file. Then, the error changed to a ORA-22835 error (the buffer is too small). ¿Is there any way that JPA solves this problem without going to a low-level implementation? ¿Any suggestions?

    Hello All I am encountering an issue when I am trying to load a large result set using a range query in Oracle 10g. When I try a smaller range (1 to 100), it works but when I try a larger range(1 and 1000), I get the following error "ORA-22814: attribute or element value is larger than specified in type" error. I have a basic UDT (PostComments_Type) and I have tried using both a VArray and a Table type of PostComments_Type but that hasn't made a difference. Your help is appreciated --Thanks Venu PROCEDURE RangeLoad ( floorId IN NUMBER, ceilingId IN NUMBER, o_PostComments_LARGE_COLL_TYPE OUT PostComments_LARGE_COLL_TYPE -- Tried using as VArray and also Table type of PostComments_Type )IS BEGIN SELECT PostComments_TYPE ( PostComments_ID, ... ) BULK COLLECT INTO o_PostComments_LARGE_COLL_TYPE ------------This is for VARRAY/Table Type. So bulk operation FROM PostComments WHERE PostComments_ID BETWEEN floorId And ceilingId; END RangeLoad;
