    I have a WCF Web Service which is kept under an Application Pool on IIS. Lately I've been getting "Service Unavaiable" when I'm trying to make calls to this Web Service. The first thing I tried to do was restarting the Application Pool. I did it and after a couple of seconds, it crashed and stopped. Looking at the Event Viewer, I found these messages, which by the moment couldn't help me to find where the problem is. A process serving application pool 'X' reported a failure. The process id was '11616'. The data field contains the error number. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. After getting a couple of these, I got this one: Application pool 'X' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.     In Windows Server 2003/IIS6 land we typically create an app pool that runs as the identity of an AD account created with minimal privileges simply for that purpose. This same domain user would also be granted access to SQL Server so that any ASP.NET application in that app pool would be able to connect to SQL Server with Integrated Security=SSPI. We are making a brave move to the world of Windows Server 2008 R2/IIS7.5 and are looking to replicate this model, but I am struggling with how to make the application pool in IIS7.5 run as the identity of an AD account? I know this sounds simple and hopefully it is, but my attempts so far have been fruitless. Should the application pool identity be a 'Custom account' for a domain account? Does the domain account need to be added to any groups?

  • Creating an app pool a month to limit the scope of issues

    I have about 360 sites running on a single app pool. Now I know we have a coding issue with one of those sites, were we have accidentally coded a memory leak. So what happens is the site runs, the memory leak starts and soon the app pool runs out of memory. Then slowly but surely, the rest of the 360 sites start going down like a domino affect. I understand that the root of the problem is some bad coding, which we'll fix, but instead of bringing down said 360 sites, I was thinking, we could create a new app-pool monthly that every site we create would go into that months app pool. First, that limit the scope of the issues to 5 - 20 sites and second if one site started having issues we wouldn't be bringing down all 360 sites. Is there any issues to this thinking, possible ramifications? Thanks in Advance! Jeremiah

    In Windows Server 2008 R2, it is possible to read the Event Viewer for EventID 1020 which is an indication that the DHCP pool is running low on addresses. What if I have two DHCP servers in my domain that use an 80/20 split scope to take a /24 pool of DHCP-allocated IP addresses and split it amongst the two servers according to this Technet Article? In this case, since the scope is split, how can I tell if the total DHCP pool, which is split amongst the two DHCP servers, is beginning to run low on address space?

    Several times after our app pool has been told to reset, it gets stuck, the .net pages go down and the following error appears in the application event log: Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect. Our app pool is scheduled to automatically reset at 4am, so the errors stay up until we manually restart the app pool. Has anyone else encountered the error or know of any solutions? Research has suggested it's a permissions issue, but the permissions don't change and the error happens infrequently. The site has no other permission based problems and the app pool identity has permission where needed.

I manage and control all the domains that run under the pool so I'm not concerned about security of files per account, I just need to make sure all scripting can be executed by the user who owns the files, instead of needing to change file permissions for each account, or having to create tons of vhost include files.

I have separated 4 GB of RAM for PHP, now according to the calculations 40 Child Processes via one socket, and I have total of 3 sockets in my Nginx and FPM configuration. My doubt is about the amount of memory consumption by those child processes. I tried to create high load in the server via httperf hog and siege but I could not calculate the accurate memory usage by all the PHP processes (other processes like MySQL and Nginx were also running). And all the sockets were in use, So, I seek guidance from anyone who have done this before or know how exactly the pm.max_children in PHP Works. Since I have 3 Pools/sockets with 40 child processes does that count to 3 x 40 x 40 Mb of Memory usage ? or it is just like 40 Max. Child processes sharing 3 sockets (and the total memory usage is just 40 x 40 Mb) ?

  • Application Pool Identity corruption

    I have observed a few times while deploying software into IIS that every now and again the related Application Pools fail to restart and in the Event Log we see an error like the following: The identity of application pool, 'AppPoolName' is invalid. If it remains invalid when the first request for the application pool is processed, the application pool will be disabled. This does not happen frequently but when it does the only solution is to re-apply the Identity password in the IIS Manager Window. As soon as I re-apply and then restart the application pool the web sites come back up. Facts: The account is a service account whose password never expires. The account is local to the IIS host. The account password is never changed. This is IIS 6 running on Windows Server 2003 Deployment of the software is via MSI and involves several IIS Resets. The software is created in house and does not do anything fancy to IIS. Any ideas how the identity information might become corrupt? Edit: Clarification To be clear - this user account and password combination work absolutely fine and usually works fine as the Identity of the Application Pool. It is only when we deploy updates of our software into an existing IIS application that it stops working. Our password has not changed Our deployment does not change the password or reconfigure the application pools. This does not happen every time, 1/20 times perhaps. If we re-enter the password into IIS and restart the App Pools everything works.

  • Can't remove zfs log device from pool

    I run a FreeBSD 9.0 server with ZFS pool version 28 and ZFS version 5. I had two pools with a log on ssd's two partitions. These pools was created on FreeBSD 8.2 with ZFS pool version 15, and ZFS version 4. After I upgraded to the new zfs version, I tried to remove the SSD log device from both pools both command was successful (no error message). One of the pools was the log removed, but the other still there, I down the server removed the ssd physically, and hoped it will be forgot by the zpool. The zpool became degraded as ssd was missing. I tied to remove again. No error message, but the log device entry still there. After it, to became the pool online again, I created a file on the root UFS partition and replaced the missing to device to this file. It was successful, the pool again online. However I can't remove the log device from the pool. Where can I have to look for error messages? (in dmesg there is nothing about it, also the zfs remove doesn't have any error message, it's seem like it was successful.

    I guess this is trivial and most commonly asked question, but I'd reiterate it again here as I'm not able to find a correct solution. I'm trying to install Ubuntu Cloud setup on VMWare using the package from http://download.ubuntu.com and have this basic installation setup issue as per the below image. file:///cdrom/pool/main/k/klibc/klibc-utils_1.5.25-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb was corrupt The issue is I cannot continue by skipping this as you know this happens to be the most important setup. How can I fix this? Help is sincerely appreciated.

  • What happens when Npgsql connection pool reaches Max

    Both the name of the connection string parameter and this blog post - http://fxjr.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/npgsql-connection-pool-explained.html - lead me to believe that Npgsql wont exceed the MaxPoolSize value set in the connection string. However the docs (http://npgsql.projects.postgresql.org/docs/manual/UserManual.html) say "Max size of connection pool. Pooled connections will be disposed of when returned to the pool if the pool contains more than this number of connections. Default: 20" This suggests that the pool can actually grow larger than MaxPoolSize and it is in fact just a level at which Npgsql starts to aggressively remove connections from the pool as soon as they are returned. I've been searching to try and find an answer but I can find out exactly what happens when you reach MaxPoolSize. Anyone else know? edit: I should add we are using Npgsql 2.0.6.0 due to another dependency being supported only up to that version.

  • Can CultureInfo.CurrentCulture differ per application pool?

    I'm having trouble with CultureInfo in our ASP.NET web application. Our web application returns a different culture, depending on which application pool it is in. In application pool A, it is en-US, but in application pool B, it's nl-BE. I'd like it to be nl-BE, but can't find where to change this (IIS6 by the way). I'm not even sure if this can be changed on an app-pool level. I'm checking with CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name. Is it possible to change this for an application pool? Or what else could influence this? In the regional settings of the server, we have selected 'Dutch (Belgium)', which translates to nl-BE, I believe. So where could this application pool be getting the en-US?

Add this new app pool to the new subfolder Normally, I would do this manually in IIS by first creating the app pool, and then right-clicking the sub folder an choose "add application", but I need to do this programmatically in C#. I've managed to make the above points 1 and 2 work, but I can't find the way to adding the application to the sub folder. However I'd like to add this newly created site to an existing application pool.
