  • Which revision of html5lib is stable?

    - by Mat
html5lib notes that it's latest release (0.11) is somewhat old. Using the Python portion, I have recursion problems as noted in Issue 70 and Issue 59 but can't find a recent Mercurial revision that is stable. The latest tip is no good, I got the following error from python setup.py install: byte-compiling build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/html5lib/treewalkers/_base.py to _base.pyc File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/html5lib/treewalkers/_base.py", line 40 "data": []} ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax And I get the following errors at runtime: soup = parser.parse(page.read()) File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/html5lib/html5parser.py", line 165, in parse File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/html5lib/html5parser.py", line 144, in _parse File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/html5lib/html5parser.py", line 454, in processDoctype TypeError: insertDoctype() takes exactly 4 arguments (2 given) I'm using it on Python 2.5.2 with lxml and BeautifulSoup.

  • Mercurial in Windows doesn't see .hgignore - why?

    - by AP257
Windows fails to pick up my .hgignore file. I'm running Mercurial from the command line, and "hg status" shows lots of files in the ignored directories. The .hgignore file looks like this (there's no whitespace at the start of the file, or at the start of each line). I've put it in the root directory of the repository. \.pyc$ \.pyo$ \.DS_Store \.Python \.installed.cfg ^bin$ ^build$ ^develop-eggs$ ^eggs$ ^include$ ^lib$ ^parts$ ^pip-log.txt$ ^web/localsettings.py$ I've tried saving the file in ANSI and UTF-8, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I know the file is working OK on Linux, is there anything different about the paths in Windows?

  • Twitter xAuth vs open source

    - by Yorirou
Hi I am developing an open source desktop twitter client. I would like to take advantage on the new xAuth authentication method, however my app is open source which means that if I put the keys directly into the source file, it may be a vulnerability (am I correct? The twitter support guy told me). On the other hand, putting the key directly into a binary also doesn't make sense. I am writing my application in python, so if I just supply the pyc files, it is one more seconds to get the keys, thanks to the excellent reflection capatibilities of Python. If I create a small .so file with the keys, it is also trivial to obtain the key by looking at the raw binary (keys has fixed length and character set). What is your opinion? Is it really a secutiry hole to expose the API keys?

  • Interpreted vs. Compiled vs. Late-Binding

    - by zubin71
Python is compiled into an intermediate bytecode(pyc) and then executed. So, there is a compilation followed by interpretation. However, long-time Python users say that Python is a "late-binding" language and that it should`nt be referred to as an interpreted language. How would Python be different from another interpreted language? Could you tell me what "late-binding" means, in the Python context? Java is another language which first has source code compiled into bytecode and then interpreted into bytecode. Is Java an interpreted/compiled language? How is it different from Python in terms of compilation/execution? Java is said to not have, "late-binding". Does this have anything to do with Java programs being slighly faster than Python? Itd be great if you could also give me links to places where people have already discussed this; id love to read more on this. Thank you.

  • How to import a module from a directory?

    - by Roman
On my system I have two versions of Python (to call them I type python and python2 in the command line). When I use the first version of Python, I cannot import sklearn module but I can do it in the second version of Python. I would like to use the first version of python (because other modules are available there) and, at the same time, I would like to be able to import sklearn from this version of Python. My solution was to use: import sys sys.path.append('location_of_the_sklearn_module') To find the location of the sklearn module I started a python session (using the second version of python, in which sklearn works). The I type: import sklearn sklearn.__file__ As a result I got: /home/name/my_name/numpy/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/sklearn/__init__.pyc In the session of the first version of Python I tried: import sys sys.path.append('/home/name/my_name/numpy/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/sklearn') import sklearn Unfortunately it did not work. As a result I got: ImportError: No module named sklearn Does anybody know what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to reach the goal in the way I try?

  • xcodeproj merge fails when adding new group

    - by user1473113
I'm currently using Xcode with Git, and I'm experiencing some troubles during the merge process of my xcodeproj. Developer1 create a new group in Xcode file arborescence the commit and push. Developer2 on an other computer do the same with an other group name, commit and pull(with merge). The xcodeproj of Developer 2 become unreadable with Xcode. But when I create a new file or just drag and drop files from finder to repository, the merge succeed. Did someone has experienced that kind of trouble? I'm using in .gitattributes: *.pbxproj -crlf -diff merge=union # Better to treat them as binary files. *.pbxuser -crlf -diff -merge *.xib -crlf -diff -merge and in my .gitignore # Mac OS X *.DS_Store *~ # Xcode *.mode1v3 *.mode2v3 *.perspectivev3 *.xcuserstate project.xcworkspace/ xcuserdata/ *.xcodeproj/* !*.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj !*.xcodeproj/*.pbxuser # Generated files *.o *.pyc *.hi #Python modules MANIFEST dist/ build/ # Backup files *~.nib \#*# .#*

  • How to use traceit to report function input variables in stack trace

    - by reckoner
Hi, I've been using the following code to trace the execution of my programs: import sys import linecache import random def traceit(frame, event, arg): if event == "line": lineno = frame.f_lineno filename = frame.f_globals["__file__"] if filename == "<stdin>": filename = "traceit.py" if (filename.endswith(".pyc") or filename.endswith(".pyo")): filename = filename[:-1] name = frame.f_globals["__name__"] line = linecache.getline(filename, lineno) print "%s:%s:%s: %s" % (name, lineno,frame.f_code.co_name , line.rstrip()) return traceit def main(): print "In main" for i in range(5): print i, random.randrange(0, 10) print "Done." sys.settrace(traceit) main() Using this code, or something like it, is it possible to report the values of certain function arguments? In other words, the above code tells me "which" functions were called and I would like to know "what" the corresponding values of the input variables for those function calls. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I protect python code?

    - by Jordfräs
I am developing a piece of software in python that will be distributed to my employer's customers. My employer wants to limit the usage of the software with a time restricted license file. If we distribute the .py files or even .pyc files it will be easy to (decompile), and remove the code that checks the license file. Another aspect is that my employer do not want the code to be read by our customers, fearing that the code may be stolen or at least the "novel ideas". Is there a good way to handle this problem? Preferably with an off-the-shelf solution. The software will run on Linux systems (so I don't think py2exe will do the trick)

  • How to do 'search for keyword in files' in emacs in Windows without cygwin?

    - by Anthony Kong
I want to search for keyword, says 'action', in a bunch of files in my Windows PC with Emacs. It is partly because I want to learn more advanced features of emacs. It is also because the Windows PC is locked down by company policy. I cannot install useful applications like cygwin at will. So I tried this command: M-x rgrep It throws the following error message: *- mode: grep; default-directory: "c:/Users/me/Desktop/Project" -*- Grep started at Wed Oct 16 18:37:43 find . -type d "(" -path "*/SCCS" -o -path "*/RCS" -o -path "*/CVS" -o -path "*/MCVS" -o -path "*/.svn" -o -path "*/.git" -o -path "*/.hg" -o -path "*/.bzr" -o -path "*/_MTN" -o -path "*/_darcs" -o -path "*/{arch}" ")" -prune -o "(" -name ".#*" -o -name "*.o" -o -name "*~" -o -name "*.bin" -o -name "*.bak" -o -name "*.obj" -o -name "*.map" -o -name "*.ico" -o -name "*.pif" -o -name "*.lnk" -o -name "*.a" -o -name "*.ln" -o -name "*.blg" -o -name "*.bbl" -o -name "*.dll" -o -name "*.drv" -o -name "*.vxd" -o -name "*.386" -o -name "*.elc" -o -name "*.lof" -o -name "*.glo" -o -name "*.idx" -o -name "*.lot" -o -name "*.fmt" -o -name "*.tfm" -o -name "*.class" -o -name "*.fas" -o -name "*.lib" -o -name "*.mem" -o -name "*.x86f" -o -name "*.sparcf" -o -name "*.dfsl" -o -name "*.pfsl" -o -name "*.d64fsl" -o -name "*.p64fsl" -o -name "*.lx64fsl" -o -name "*.lx32fsl" -o -name "*.dx64fsl" -o -name "*.dx32fsl" -o -name "*.fx64fsl" -o -name "*.fx32fsl" -o -name "*.sx64fsl" -o -name "*.sx32fsl" -o -name "*.wx64fsl" -o -name "*.wx32fsl" -o -name "*.fasl" -o -name "*.ufsl" -o -name "*.fsl" -o -name "*.dxl" -o -name "*.lo" -o -name "*.la" -o -name "*.gmo" -o -name "*.mo" -o -name "*.toc" -o -name "*.aux" -o -name "*.cp" -o -name "*.fn" -o -name "*.ky" -o -name "*.pg" -o -name "*.tp" -o -name "*.vr" -o -name "*.cps" -o -name "*.fns" -o -name "*.kys" -o -name "*.pgs" -o -name "*.tps" -o -name "*.vrs" -o -name "*.pyc" -o -name "*.pyo" ")" -prune -o -type f "(" -iname "*.sh" ")" -exec grep -i -n "action" {} NUL ";" FIND: Parameter format not correct Grep exited abnormally with code 2 at Wed Oct 16 18:37:44 I believe rgrep tried to spwan a process and called 'FIND' with all the parameters. • Easy_install the wrong version of python modules (Mac OS)

I installed Python 2.7 on my Mac. When typing "python" in terminal, it shows: $ python Python 2.7 (r27:82508, Jul 3 2010, 20:17:05) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5493)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. The Python version is correct here. But when I try to easy_install some modules. The system will install the modules with python version 2.6 which are not able be imported to Python 2.7. • nginx error page and internal directives not working as expected

    - by Romain
I'd like to setup my nginx server to return a specific error page on HTTP 50x status codes, and I'd like this page to be unavailable by a direct request from users (e.g., http//mysite/internalerror). For that, I'm using nginx's internal directive, but I must be missing something, as when I put that directive on my /internalerror location, nginx returns a custom 404 error (which isn't even my own 404 error page) when a page crashes. So, to summarize, here's what seems to happen: GET /Home nginx passes the query to Python I'm simulating an application bug to get the 502 error code nginx tries to return /InternalError from its error_page rule because of the internal rule, it finally fails back to a custom 404 error code <-- why? the documentation says error_page directives are not concerned by internal: http://wiki.nginx.org/HttpCoreModule#internal Here's an extract from nginx.conf with a few comments to point things out: error_page 404 /NotFound; error_page 500 502 503 504 =500 /InternalError; # HTTP 500 Error page declaration location / { try_files /Maintenance.html $uri @pythonbackend; } location @pythonbackend { include uwsgi_params; uwsgi_pass unix:///tmp/uwsgi.sock; } location ~* \.(py|pyc)$ { # This internal location works OK and returns my own 404 error page internal; } location /__Maintenance.html { # This one also works fine internal; } location ~* /internalerror { # This one doesn't work and returns nginx's 404 error page when I trigger an error somewhere on my site internal; } Thanks very much for your help!!

  • Are Django template tags cached?

    - by thebossman
I have gone through the (painful) process of writing a custom template tag for use in Django. It is registered as an inclusion_tag so that it renders a template. However, this tag breaks as soon as I try to change something. I've tried changing the number of parameters and correspondingly changing the parameters when it's called. It's clear the new tag code isn't being loaded, because an error is thrown stating that there is a mismatch in the number of parameters, and it's evident that it's attempting to call the old function. The same problem occurs if I try to change the name of the template being rendered and correspondingly change the name of the template on disk. It continues to try to call the old template. I've tried clearing old .pyc files with no luck. Overall, the system is acting as though it's caching the template tags, likely due to the register command. I have dug through endless threads trying to find out if this is so, but all could find it James Bennett stating here that register doesn't do anything. Please help!

  • Django + Virtualenv: manage.py commands fail with ImportError of project name.

    - by Bartek
This is blowing my mind because it's probably an easy solution, but I can't figure out what could be causing this. So I have a new dev box and am setting everything up. I installed virtualenv, created a new environment for my project under ~/.virtualenvs/projectname Then, I cloned my project from github into my projects directory. Nothing fancy here. There are no .pyc files sitting around so it's a clean slate of code. Then, I activated my virtualenv and installed Django via pip. All looks good so far. Then, I run python manage.py syncdb within my project dir. This is where I get confused: ImportError: No module named projectname So I figured I may have had some references of projectname within my code. So I grep (ack, actually) through my code base and I find nothing of the sorts. So now I'm at a loss, given this environment why am I getting an ImportError on a module named projectname that isn't referenced anywhere in my code? I look forward to a solution .. thanks guys!

  • How do I override a python import?

    - by Evan Plaice
So I'm working on pypreprocessor which is a preprocessor that takes c-style directives and I've been able to make it work like a traditional preprocessor (it's self-consuming and executes postprocessed code on-the-fly) except that it breaks library imports. The problem is. The preprocessor runs through the file, processes' it, outputs to a temp file, and exec() the temp file. Libraries that are imported need to be handled a little different because they aren't executed but rather loaded and made accessible to the caller module. What I need to be able to do is. Interrupt the import (since the preprocessor is being run in the middle of the import), load the postprocessed code as a tempModule, and replace the original import with the tempModule to trick the calling script with the import into believing that the tempModule is the original module. I have searched everywhere and so far, have no solution. This question is the closest I've seen so far to providing an answer: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1096216/override-namespace-in-python Here's what I have. # remove the bytecode file created by the first import os.remove(moduleName + '.pyc') # remove the first import del sys.modules[moduleName] # import the postprocessed module tmpModule = __import__(tmpModuleName) # set first module's reference to point to the preprocessed module sys.modules[moduleName] = tmpModule moduleName is the name of the original module, tmpModuleName is the name of the postprocessed code file. The strange part is, this solution still runs completely normal as if the first module completed loaded normally; unless you remove the last line, then you get a module not found error. Hopefully someone on SO know a lot more about imports than I do because this one has me stumped.

  • Reasonably faster way to traverse a directory tree in Python?

    - by Sridhar Ratnakumar
Assuming that the given directory tree is of reasonable size: say an open source project like Twisted or Python, what is the fastest way to traverse and iterate over the absolute path of all files/directories inside that directory? I want to do this from within Python (subprocess is allowed). os.path.walk is slow. So I tried ls -lR and tree -fi. For a project with about 8337 files (including tmp, pyc, test, .svn files): $ time tree -fi > /dev/null real 0m0.170s user 0m0.044s sys 0m0.123s $ time ls -lR > /dev/null real 0m0.292s user 0m0.138s sys 0m0.152s $ time find . > /dev/null real 0m0.074s user 0m0.017s sys 0m0.056s $ tree appears to be faster than ls -lR (though ls -R is faster than tree, but it does not give full paths). find is the fastest. Can anyone think of a faster and/or better approach? On Windows, I may simply ship a 32-bit binary tree.exe or ls.exe if necessary. Update 1: Added find

Whenever I try to apply a migration I get the following traceback: danpalmer:pest Dan$ python manage.py migrate frontend Traceback (most recent call last): File "manage.py", line 11, in <module> execute_manager(settings) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/__init__.py", line 362, in execute_manager utility.execute() File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/__init__.py", line 303, in execute self.fetch_command(subcommand).run_from_argv(self.argv) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 195, in run_from_argv self.execute(*args, **options.__dict__) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 222, in execute output = self.handle(*args, **options) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/management/commands/migrate.py", line 102, in handle delete_ghosts = delete_ghosts, File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/__init__.py", line 182, in migrate_app applied = check_migration_histories(applied, delete_ghosts) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/__init__.py", line 85, in check_migration_histories m = h.get_migration() File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/models.py", line 34, in get_migration return self.get_migrations().migration(self.migration) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/models.py", line 31, in get_migrations return Migrations(self.app_name) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 60, in __call__ self.instances[app_label] = super(MigrationsMetaclass, self).__call__(app_label_to_app_module(app_label), **kwds) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 88, in __init__ self.set_application(application, force_creation, verbose_creation) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 159, in set_application raise exceptions.NoMigrations(application) south.exceptions.NoMigrations: Application '<module 'django.contrib.auth' from '/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/auth/__init__.pyc'>' has no migrations. I am not that experienced with South and I haven't met this error before. The only helpful mention I can find online about this error is for pre-0.7 I think and I am on South 0.7. I ran 'easy_install -U South' just to make sure. Thanks for any help that you can provide. I really appreciate it.

  • Deploying Django on EC2 using Bitnami Djangostack: WSGI script cannot be loadded

    - by Arman
I've been struggling to deploy Django application on Amazon EC2 using Bitnami Djangostack for the last couple of days. When I go to http://dewey.io I see the default bitnami page (/opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/index.html), however, when I open http://dewey.io/portnoy, I get 'Internal Server Error'. But it's known that if mod_wsgi is setup correctly, the DocumentRoot value from httpd.conf is ignored, thus, I should see my Django application when accessing http://dewey.io. Essentially, the main error is this - 'Target WSGI script cannot be loaded as Python module'. Two questions: 1) any ideas how to fix these mod_wsgi errors (the Apache logs are below)? 2) how to disable the default /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/index.html page and show my homepage from django application when accessing http://dewey.io? • http request to cgi python script successful, but the script doesn't seem to run

    - by chipChocolate.py
    I have configured cgi scripts for my apache2 web server. Here is what I want to do: Client uploads the image to the server. (this already works) On success, I want to execute the python script to resize the image. I tried the following and the success function does execute but my python script does not seem to execute: Javascript code that sends the request: var input = document.getElementById('imageLoader'); imageName = input.value; var file = input.files[0]; if(file != undefined){ formData= new FormData(); console.log(formData.length); if(!!file.type.match(/image.*/)){ formData.append("image", file); $.ajax({ url: "upload.php", type: "POST", processData: false, contentType: false, success: function() { var input = document.getElementById('imageLoader'); imageName = input.value; var file = input.files[0]; formData = new FormData(); formData.append("filename", file); $.ajax({ url: "http://localhost/Main/cgi-bin/resize.py", type: "POST", data: formData, processData: false, contentType: false, success: function(data) { console.log(data); } }); // code continues... resize.py: #!/usr/bin/python import cgi import cgitb import Image cgitb.enable() data = cgi.FieldStorage() filename = data.getvalue("filename") im = Image.open("../JS/upload/" + filename) (width, height) = im.size maxWidth = 600 maxHeight = 400 if width > maxWidth: d = float(width) / maxWidth height = int(height / d) width = maxWidth if height > maxHeight: d = float(height) / maxHeight width = int(width / d) height = maxHeight size = (width, height) im = im.resize(size, Image.ANTIALIAS) im.save("../JS/upload/" + filename, quality=100) This is the apache2.conf: <Directory /var/www/html/Main/cgi-bin> AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI SetHandler cgi-script AddHandler cgi-script .py .cgi Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> cgi-bin and python script file permissions: drwxrwxr-x 2 mou mou 4096 Aug 24 03:28 cgi-bin -rwxrwxrwx 1 mou mou 1673 Aug 24 03:28 resize.py Edit: Executing this code $.ajax({ url: "http://localhost/Main/cgi-bin/resize.py", type: "POST", data: formData, // formData = {"filename" : "the filename which was saved in a variable whie the image was uploaded"} processData: false, contentType: false, success: function(data) { alert(data); } }); it alerts the following: <body bgcolor="#f0f0f8"><font color="#f0f0f8" size="-5"> --> <body bgcolor="#f0f0f8"><font color="#f0f0f8" size="-5"> --> --> </font> </font> </font> </script> </object> </blockquote> </pre> </table> </table> </table> </table> </table> </font> </font> </font><body bgcolor="#f0f0f8"> <table width="100%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 border=0 summary="heading"> <tr bgcolor="#6622aa"> <td valign=bottom>&nbsp;<br> <font color="#ffffff" face="helvetica, arial">&nbsp;<br><big><big><strong>&lt;type 'exceptions.TypeError'&gt;</strong></big></big></font></td ><td align=right valign=bottom ><font color="#ffffff" face="helvetica, arial">Python 2.7.6: /usr/bin/python<br>Sun Aug 24 17:24:15 2014</font></td></tr></table> <p>A problem occurred in a Python script.
