• ERB doesnt get executed in javascript scripts

    - by Stefano
    Hi guys I have a select input on my page. this select input displays/hides fields in the form. This all works fine. But the problem is that if i submit the form and lack some necessary fields, it doesnt set the select to the right value afterwards. I just cant get the embedded ruby to work! it keeps escaping the whole thing... here my code: $(document).ready(function() { $("#profile_sex").val('<%= @profile.sex %>') $("#profile_sex").change(function(){ ($(this).val() == "Frau") ? $('#form-female').show() : $('#form-female').hide(); ($(this).val() == "Mann") ? $('#form-male').show() : $('#form-male').hide(); if ($(this).val() == "Paar") { $('#form-female').show(); $('#form-male').show(); } }); }); why doesnt this work??? I dont get any error or anything it just sets the value to "<%= @profile.sex =" I was googling and searching about on stack overflow and railscasts, the rails API, everything. Im seriously confused... thanks for your help.

  • Ruby On Rails -

    - by Adam S
    I am trying to create a collection_select that is dependent on another collection_select, following the railscasts episode #88.. The database includes a schedule of all cruise ships arrival dates. See attached schema diagram,... (The arrow side of the lines indicate has_many, the non-pointy side indicates belongs_to) In the "booking/new" view I have a collection_select for choosing a cruiseline, then another collection_select will appear for selecting a ship, then another for selecting the date that ship is in. If I ONLY put a collection_select for shipshedule it works fine(because of the direct association with the bookings model). However, if I try to add a collection_select for cruiselines....it breaks(Im assuming because their isnt a direct association). The collection_select for cruiselines returns an undefined method error for "cruiseline_id".....if I simply use "id" the collection_select works, but of course isnt fully functional due to incorrect naming of the form field. I have tried "has_many :shipschedules, :through = :cruiseships" in the cruiseline model and "has_many :bookings, :through = :shipschedules" in the cruiseships model... As you can see in the diagram, I need to access the cruiseships and cruiselines model through the bookings model. I have the models set up so a cruiseline has_many cruiseships, a cruiseship has_many shipschedules, and a shipschedule has_many bookings. But, the bookings model cant directly access the cruiseline model. How do I accomplish this? • Authlogic openid: getting undefined method openid_identifier? error in functional test

    - by usr
    I use Authlogic with the Authlogic-openid addon (I gem installed ruby- openid and script/plugin install git://github.com/rails/open_id_authentication.git) and get two errors. First when running functional test, I get an undefined method openid_identifier? message on a line in my new.html.erb file when running the UsersControllerTest. The line is: <% if @user.openid_identifier? %> When running script/console I can access this method without any problem. Second when testing the openid functionality and registering a new user to my application using openid and using my blogspot account for that I get the following in my log file: Generated checkid_setup request to http://www.blogger.com/openid-server.g with assocication ... Redirected to http://www.blogger.com/openid-server.g?openid.assoc_handle=... NoMethodError (You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! I feel I'm missing something pretty basic but I have been staring at this for too long because I can't find what it is. I checked with the code on Railscasts episodes 160 and 170 and the bones GitHub project but found nothing. Thanks for your help, usr

  • How to troubleshoot a Highcharts script that's not rendering data when date is added and hanging the JS engine with large datasets?

    - by ylluminate
    I have a Highchart JS graph that I'm building in Rails (although I don't think Ruby has real bearing on this problem unless it's the Date output format) to which I'm adding the timestamp of each datapoint. Presently the array of floats is rendering fine without timestamps, however when I add the timestamp to the series it fails to rend. What's worse is that when the series has hundreds of entries all sorts of problems arise, not the least of which is the browser entirely hanging and requiring a force quit / kill. I'm using the following to build the array of arrays data series: series1 = readings.map{|row| [(row.date.to_i * 1000), (row.data1.to_f if BigDecimal(row.data1) != BigDecimal("-1000.0"))] } This yields a result like this: series: [{"name":"Data 1","data":[[1326262980000,1.79e-09],[1326262920000,1.29e-09],[1326262860000,1.22e-09],[1326262800000,1.42e-09],[1326262740000,1.29e-09],[1326262680000,1.34e-09],[1326262620000,1.31e-09],[1326262560000,1.51e-09],[1326262500000,1.24e-09],[1326262440000,1.7e-09],[1326262380000,1.24e-09],[1326262320000,1.29e-09],[1326262260000,1.53e-09],[1326262200000,1.23e-09],[1326262140000,1.21e-09]],"color":"blue"}] Yet nothing appears on the graph as noted. Notwithstanding, when I compare the data series in one of their very similar examples here: http://www.highcharts.com/demo/spline-irregular-time It appears that really the data series are formatted identically (except in mine I use the timestamp vs date method). This leads me to think I've got a problem with the timestamp output, but I'm just not able to figure out where / how as I'm converting the date output to an integer multipled by 1000 to convert it to milliseconds as per explained in a similar Railscasts tutorial. I would very much appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction here as to what I may be doing wrong. What could cause no data to appear on the graph in smaller sized sets (<100 points) and when into the hundreds causes an apparent hang in the javascript engine in this case? Perhaps ultimately the key lies here as this is the entire js that's being generated and not rendering: jQuery(function() { // 1. Define JSON options var options = { chart: {"defaultSeriesType":"spline","renderTo":"chart_name"}, title: {"text":"Title"}, legend: {"layout":"vertical","style":{}}, xAxis: {"title":{"text":"UTC Time"},"type":"datetime"}, yAxis: [{"title":{"text":"Left Title","margin":10}},{"title":{"text":"Right Groups Title"},"opposite":true}], tooltip: {"enabled":true}, credits: {"enabled":false}, plotOptions: {"areaspline":{}}, series: [{"name":"Data 1","data":[[1326262980000,1.79e-08],[1326262920000,1.69e-08],[1326262860000,1.62e-08],[1326262800000,1.42e-08],[1326262740000,1.29e-08],[1326262680000,1.34e-08],[1326262620000,1.31e-08],[1326262560000,1.51e-08],[1326262500000,1.64e-08],[1326262440000,1.7e-08],[1326262380000,1.64e-08],[1326262320000,1.69e-08],[1326262260000,1.53e-08],[1326262200000,1.23e-08],[1326262140000,1.21e-08]],"color":"blue"},{"name":"Data 2","data":[[1326262980000,9.79e-09],[1326262920000,9.78e-09],[1326262860000,9.8e-09],[1326262800000,9.82e-09],[1326262740000,9.88e-09],[1326262680000,9.89e-09],[1326262620000,1.3e-06],[1326262560000,1.32e-06],[1326262500000,1.33e-06],[1326262440000,1.33e-06],[1326262380000,1.34e-06],[1326262320000,1.33e-06],[1326262260000,1.32e-06],[1326262200000,1.32e-06],[1326262140000,1.32e-06]],"color":"red"}], subtitle: {} }; // 2. • ruby on rails photo upload problem

    - by dodo00700
    Hallo rails version 2.3.5 I'm learning rails and I run into a problem. I'm doing some nesting forms from the railscasts tutorials. I changed the text area into a data field to upload photos and everything is working. Now i have to display the uploaded pictures and i simply can't do it. I Tried everything I could find on the net but nothing worked. PROBLEM I have the Article controller which handles the article CRUD. inside the article new form there is nested a form for uploading images. article controller def code_image @image_data = Photo.find(params[:id]) @image = @image_data.binary_data send_data(@image, :type => @image_data.content_type, :filename => @image_data.filename, :disposition => 'inline') end photo model def image_file=(input_data) self.filename = input_data.original_filename self.content_type = input_data.content_type.chomp self.binary_data = input_data.read end articles/show.html.erb <%=h @article.title %> <%=h @article.body %> <% for photos in @article.photos %> <%= image_tag(url_for({:action => 'code_image', :id => @article.photos.id})) -%> <% end %> articles/_formnew.html.erb <% form_for (:article, @article, :url => {:action=>'create'}, :html=> {:multipart=>true}) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages % <%= f.label :title %>
<%= f.text_field :title %>

<%= f.label :body %>
<%= f.text_area :body, :style => 'width: 600px;' %>

<% f.fields_for :photos do |builder|%> <%= builder.label :content, "Photo"%>
<%= builder.file_field :image_file %>
<% end %>
<%= f.submit "Create" %> <% end % Thanks

  • Ruby on Rails: create records for multiple models with one form and one submit

    - by notblakeshelton
    I have a 3 models: quote, customer, and item. Each quote has one customer and one item. I would like to create a new quote, a new customer, and a new item in their respective tables when I press the submit button. I have looked at other questions and railscasts and either they don't work for my situation or I don't know how to implement them. I also want my index page to be the page where I can create everything. quote.rb class Quote < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :quote_number has_one :customer has_one :item end customer.rb class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base #unsure of what to put here #a customer can have multiple quotes, so would i use: has_many :quotes #<----? end item.rb class Item < ActiveRecord::Base #also unsure about this #each item can also be in multiple quotes quotes_controller.rb class QuotesController < ApplicationController def index @quote = Quote.new @customer = Customer.new @item = item.new end def create @quote = Quote.new(params[:quote]) @quote.save @customer = Customer.new(params[:customer]) @customer.save @item = Item.new(params[:item]) @item.save end end items_controller.rb class ItemsController < ApplicationController def index end def new @item = Item.new end def create @item = Item.new(params[:item]) @item.save end end customers_controller.rb class CustomersController < ApplicationController def index end def new @customer = Customer.new end def create @customer = Customer.new(params[:customer]) @customer.save end end quotes/index.html.erb <%= form_for @quote do |f| %> <%= f.fields_for @customer do |builder| %> <%= label_tag :firstname %> <%= builder.text_field :firstname %> <%= label_tag :lastname %> <%= builder.text_field :lastname %> <% end %> <%= f.fields_for @item do |builder| %> <%= label_tag :name %> <%= builder.text_field :name %> <%= label_tag :description %> <%= builder.text_field :description %> <% end %> <%= label_tag :quote_number %> <%= f.text_field :quote_number %> <%= f.submit %> <% end %> When I try submitting that I get an error: Can't mass-assign protected attributes: item, customer So to try and fix it I updated the attr_accessible in quote.rb to include :item, :customer but then I get this error: Item(#) expected, got ActiveSupport::HashWithIndifferentAccess(#) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Rails: Need a helping hand to finish this Jquery/Ajax problem.

    - by DJTripleThreat
    Here's my problem: I have a combo box that when its index changes I want a div tag with the id="services" to repopulate with checkboxes based on that comboboxes value. I want this to be done using ajax. This is my first time working with ajax for rails so I need a helping hand. Here is what I have so far: My application.js file. Something that Ryan uses in one of his railscasts. This is supposed to be a helper method for handling ajax requests. Is this useful? Should I be using this?: // $.ajaxSetup({ 'beforeSend': function(xhr) {xhr.setRequestHeader("Accept","text/javascript")} }); // This function doesn't return any results. How might I change that? Or // should I have another function to do that? $.fn.submitWithAjax = function() { this.submit(function() { $.post($(this).attr("action"), $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return true; }); }; // An external javascript file for this template (/public/javascripts/combo_box.js): // $(document).ready(function(){ $('#event_service_time_allotment').change(function () { // maybe I should be using submitWithAjax(); ?? $(this).parent().submit(); }); }); // My ???.js.erb file. I'm not sure where this file should go. Should I make an ajax controller?? Someone help me out with that part please. I can write this code no problem, I just need to know where it should go and what the file name should be called (best practices etc): // new.js.erb: dynamic choices... expecting a time_allotment alert('test'); // TODO: Return a json object or something with a result set of services // I should be expecting something like: // params[:event_service][:time_allotment] i think which I should use // to return a json object (??) to be parsed or rendered html // for the div#services. Here is my controller's new action. Am I supposed to respond to javascript here? Should I make an ajax controller instead? What's the best way to do this?: # /app/controllers/event_services_controller.rb def new @event_service = EventService.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @event_service } format.js # should I have a javascript handler here? i'm lost! end end My /app/views/event_service/new.html.erb. My ajax call I think should be a different action then the form: <% content_for :head do %> <%= javascript_include_tag '/javascripts/combo_box.js' %> <% end %> <% form_for @event_service, :url => admin_events_path, :html => {:method => :post} do |f| %> <%= select("event_service", "time_allotment", TimeAllotment.all.collect {|ta| [ta.title, ta.value]}, {:prompt => true}) %> Services:
<% for service_type in ServiceType.all %>
<%= check_box_tag "event_service[service_type_ids][]", service_type.id, false %> <%=h service_type.title %>
<% end %>
<% end %> ok so right now ALL of the services are there to be chosen from. I want them to change based on what is selected in the combobox event_service_time_allotment. Thanks, I know this is super complicated so any helpful answers will get an upvote.

  • Rails validation count limit on has_many :through

    - by Jeremy
    I've got the following models: Team, Member, Assignment, Role The Team model has_many Members. Each Member has_many roles through assignments. Role assignments are Captain and Runner. I have also installed devise and CanCan using the Member model. What I need to do is limit each Team to have a max of 1 captain and 5 runners. I found this example, and it seemed to work after some customization, but on update ('teams/1/members/4/edit'). It doesn't work on create ('teams/1/members/new'). But my other validation (validates :role_ids, :presence = true ) does work on both update and create. Any help would be appreciated. Update: I've found this example that would seem to be similar to my problem but I can't seem to make it work for my app. It seems that the root of the problem lies with how the count (or size) is performed before and during validation. For Example: When updating a record... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and adds the proposed changes (i.e. 1), and then runs the validation check. (Team.find(self.team_id).members.runner.count 5) This works fine because it returns a value of 6 and 6 5 so the proposed update fails without saving and an error is given. But when I try to create a new member on the team... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and then runs the validation check WITHOUT factoring in the proposed changes. This doesn't work because it returns a value of 5 known runner and 5 = 5 so the proposed update passes and the new member and role is saved to the database with no error. Member Model: class Member < ActiveRecord::Base devise :database_authenticatable, :registerable, :recoverable, :rememberable, :trackable, :validatable attr_accessible :password, :password_confirmation, :remember_me attr_accessible :age, :email, :first_name, :last_name, :sex, :shirt_size, :team_id, :assignments_attributes, :role_ids belongs_to :team has_many :assignments, :dependent => :destroy has_many :roles, through: :assignments accepts_nested_attributes_for :assignments scope :runner, joins(:roles).where('roles.title = ?', "Runner") scope :captain, joins(:roles).where('roles.title = ?', "Captain") validate :validate_runner_count validate :validate_captain_count validates :role_ids, :presence => true def validate_runner_count if Team.find(self.team_id).members.runner.count > 5 errors.add(:role_id, 'Error - Max runner limit reached') end end def validate_captain_count if Team.find(self.team_id).members.captain.count > 1 errors.add(:role_id, 'Error - Max captain limit reached') end end def has_role?(role_sym) roles.any? { |r| r.title.underscore.to_sym == role_sym } end end Member Controller: class MembersController < ApplicationController load_and_authorize_resource :team load_and_authorize_resource :member, :through => :team before_filter :get_team before_filter :initialize_check_boxes, :only => [:create, :update] def get_team @team = Team.find(params[:team_id]) end def index respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.json { render json: @members } end end def show respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.json { render json: @member } end end def new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.json { render json: @member } end end def edit end def create respond_to do |format| if @member.save format.html { redirect_to [@team, @member], notice: 'Member was successfully created.' } format.json { render json: [@team, @member], status: :created, location: [@team, @member] } else format.html { render action: "new" } format.json { render json: @member.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } end end end def update respond_to do |format| if @member.update_attributes(params[:member]) format.html { redirect_to [@team, @member], notice: 'Member was successfully updated.' } format.json { head :no_content } else format.html { render action: "edit" } format.json { render json: @member.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } end end end def destroy @member.destroy respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to team_members_url } format.json { head :no_content } end end # Allow empty checkboxes # http://railscasts.com/episodes/17-habtm-checkboxes def initialize_check_boxes params[:member][:role_ids] ||= [] end end _Form Partial <%= form_for [@team, @member], :html => { :class => 'form-horizontal' } do |f| %> #... # testing the count...

Captain - <%= Team.find(@member.team_id).members.captain.size %>

Runner - <%= Team.find(@member.team_id).members.runner.size %>

Driver - <%= Team.find(@member.team_id).members.driver.size %>

<%= f.fields_for :roles do %> <%= hidden_field_tag "member[role_ids][]", nil %> <% Role.all.each do |role| %> <%= check_box_tag "member[role_ids][]", role.id, @member.role_ids.include?(role.id), id: dom_id(role) %> <%= label_tag dom_id(role), role.title %> <% end %> <% end %>

#... <% end %>
