  • Login Screen hangs after entering password

    When I enter my password in the login box nothing happens. It gets stuck. It was running fine earlier. I have installed gnome-panel and cairo-dock, after which, I logged out, logged back in, and choose gnome classic session. I also added a ppa from the webupd8.org to install the themes (link). I opened Ubuntu Tweak tool, and changed the theme to Evolve the whole laptop stopped responding. The keyboard and mouse were unresponsive. So I was forced to do a shut down. Now whenever it starts, I cannot login into Ubuntu. I hear the fan noise, as its spinning very fast, when the laptop freezes.(Probably the CPU is running at 100%). Please help me. How can I login back to Ubuntu? I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and have installed all the latest updates.. EDIT: I want to know how can I delete a folder from the file system using the live CD?

  • gtk_widget_grab_focus() jumping to next field automatically?

    I am creating a 'C' project with glade and gtk. I want a focus on a gtkentry field naming txt_abc and so I called the function: gtk_widget_grab_focus (txt_abc); There is another gtkentry widget just after txt_abc widget naming txt_def. My problem is instead of getting focus on txt_abc widget, the cursor is automatically being focused on txt_def widget, when I am running the application. One more thing, when I am setting the focus at txt_def widget by calling the code: gtk_widget_grab_focus (txt_def); the control is again being focused on the next widget on the window, i.e. txt_name. I want the focus exactly on the widget I am setting the grab signal. How to resolve this problem.

    Hi, I am trying to find a O (n) algorithm for this problem but unable to do so even after spending 3 - 4 hours. The brute force method times out (O (n^2)). I am confused as to how to do it ? The teacher will ask the questions in clockwise order only. For example: 5 3 3 1 5 5 This means that there are 5 students and : 1st student wants to go third 2nd student wants to go third 3rd student wants to go first 4th student wants to go fifth 5th student wants to go fifth. The question is as to where should teacher start asking questions so that maximum number of students will get the turn as they want. For this particular example, the answer is 5 because 3 3 1 5 5 2 3 4 5 1 You can see that by starting at fifth student as 1st, 2 students (3 and 5) are getting the choices as they wanted. For this example the answer is 12th student : 12 5 1 2 3 6 3 8 4 10 3 12 7 because 5 1 2 3 6 3 8 4 10 3 12 7 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 1 four students get their choices fulfilled. Thanks Ravi

  • Ejb 2.0 deployment issues on Jboss 5.1

    I am deploying an ear application on Jboss 5.1.0. and i facing some issues. I had two ears one i had copied to deploy folder and the other in deploy-hasingleton. The ear which is in deploy-hasingleton is throwing some errors.when i serached in google i came to know that there is some issue with EJB 2.x on jboss 5.1.i was not able to find the solution.   • How to achieve the following RTO & RPO with logshipping only using SQL Server?

    Trying to come up with viable backup restore & logshipping solution for achieving the following: 15 minutes Recovery Point Objective (no more than 15 minutes data loss at any time) 5 minutes Recovery Time Objective (must be able to get the db up and running back by 5 minutes) Considering using logshipping only (which I think is kind of pushing it, but I want to know if anyone else know how to achieve this). Some other info for consideration: Using 40 Gbit / sec fiber channel between the primary and disaster recovery (DRC) sites The sites are about 600 km apart. At close of business, the amount of data generated is predicted to be about 150 MB/sec. Log backup is planned for every 5 min. Doing some rough calculation I came up w/ the following numbers: 40 Gbit / sec = 5 MB / sec @ 100% network efficiency. 5 MB / sec = 300 MB / min. @ 300 MB / min, the total amount of data that can be transfer considering the 5min RTO is about 1.5GB, but that will left no time for the actual backup and restore, so if we cut it down to 3min logshipping time, which equals to ~900 MB over 3 minutes at 100% network efficiency, that will left about 1 min backup time and 1 minute restore time. Currently don't have any information if the system being used is capable of restoring 900 MB in 1 min, but assume it can. for COB scenario... 150 MB/sec, and considering the 3 min logshipping time, which should equal to about 27 GB of data over 3 mins...??? I think this is where the SLA will break... since there is no way to transfer 27 GB of data over a 40Gbit/sec line in 3 min. Can I get someone else opinion? I am thinking database mirroring might be a better answer for this...

    Hi Guys, I have configured nagios in my environment and i have used the following setting for a service which monitors the disk space for every 10 min , Normal check interval =10 min retry check interval = 1 min Maximum attempts =2 But accoring to this values i should recieve my first alert after 10 min and then from there for every 1 min. But in my case i am recieving my first alert and then next alert comes to me after 20 min. Can some one help me in fixing this.

  • Network Load Balancing, intermittent port problem

    Trying to troubleshoot an intermittent problem. I think it might be related to an NLB issue. We are using Windows Network Load Balancing to balance load for our multiserver SharePoint front ends. Say... Web Front End 1 IP is 192.168.1.100 and Web Front End 2 IP is 192.168.1.101, the NLB is setup to load balance both WFE servers on any incoming traffic to the IP 192.168.1.200. Sometimes we got an intermittent issue where when we try to access the SharePoint site using 192.168.1.200:8080 (say the site is set up to run on port 8080) from a remote client, it will display page not found. Pinging the 192.168.1.200 will give responses, but when trying to telnet to 192.168.1.200:8080 it just won't connect. However, browsing the SharePoint site directly on individual WFE (192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101) show no problem whatsoever. My guess also (we didn't get a chance to try it yet, but I think it should work), if I try connecting remotely to individual server, it will respond just fine. But any attempt on trying to connect using the virtual IP (192.168.1.200) will fail miserably. Funny thing is, after a while it will return back to normal. Anyone had similar experience with this type of problem while implementing NLB before? We are doing this in a virtual environment.

I have 2 network connections: (Connection A) Wireless terminal connecting to ISP A (3G / EVDO internet provider) (Connection B) Broadband wired connection connecting to ISP B (Cable internet provider) Both has access to the internet. When I try connecting to a website and checking the networking tab on my Task Manager, I only see the network traffic being routed to only Connection A. Is there a way to make the computer to utilize both network (in a sense using all the bandwidth available from both the Cable ISP and the 3G / EVDO ISP) at the same time? If so, what do I need to do to set this up ... on Windows 7? Here is a bit more info on my network connections (ipconfig /all): PPP adapter Wireless Terminal: IPv4: aa.bb.ccc.ddd(preferred) Subnet mask: 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0 DNS: aa.ee.f.ggg aa.ee.f.hhh Primary Wins: jjj.ii.k.l Secondary Wins: jjj.ii.k.m Ethernet adapter LAN: IPv4: 192.168.1.100 (connected to a router by wired that itself connect to a cable modem) subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 192.168.1.1 (the wireless router) DHCP: 192.168.1.1 (the wireless router) DNS: xxx.yy.zz.ww rr.sss.t.uuu For my own privacy, I don't believe the actual number matters, the patterns are representative of the ip numbering scheme...

    I have 2 Physical Servers with SQL Server 2008 R2. – SQL Server 1(Active) & SQL Server 2 (Passive) Web Application is developed using .Net 4.0 Framework. I want to know the best solution to have high availability and also have SSRS for reporting. Planned solution: Mirroring for Failover, and Transaction Replication for SSRS as the mirrored database can only be used for failover scenarios. SSRS will be on the Passive server, to reduce the load on the Active server. Let me know if the solution is correct. Also suggest alternate approaches.

  • Network Load Balancing, intermittent port problem on Windows Server 2008

    Trying to troubleshoot an intermittent problem on a Windows Server 2008 NLB. I think it might be related to an NLB issue. We are using Windows Network Load Balancing to balance load for our multiserver SharePoint front ends. Say... Web Front End 1 IP is 192.168.1.100 and Web Front End 2 IP is 192.168.1.101, the NLB is setup to load balance both WFE servers on any incoming traffic to the IP 192.168.1.200. Sometimes we got an intermittent issue where when we try to access the SharePoint site using 192.168.1.200:8080 (say the site is set up to run on port 8080) from a remote client, it will display page not found. Pinging the 192.168.1.200 will give responses, but when trying to telnet to 192.168.1.200:8080 it just won't connect. However, browsing the SharePoint site directly on individual WFE (192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101) show no problem whatsoever. My guess also (we didn't get a chance to try it yet, but I think it should work), if I try connecting remotely to individual server, it will respond just fine. But any attempt on trying to connect using the virtual IP (192.168.1.200) will fail miserably. Funny thing is, after a while it will return back to normal. Anyone had similar experience with this type of problem while implementing NLB before? We are doing this in a virtual environment.

    I have configured nagios in my environment and i have used the following setting for a service which monitors the disk space for every 10 min , Normal check interval =10 min retry check interval = 1 min Maximum attempts =2 But accoring to this values i should recieve my first alert after 10 min and then from there for every 1 min. But in my case i am recieving my first alert and then next alert comes to me after 20 min. Can some one help me in fixing this.

    I have Lync Server 2010 and Active Directory installed on 2 different Windows Server 2008 R2 machines. I have added a Windows 7 PC to AD. And I have added this computer to Trusted Application Servers Pool and published the topology. I want to build an UCMA application to extend Lync Server functionality. I have installed UCMA 3.0 SDK in the same computer where Lync Server is residing. But, CMS Replication isn't happening and "Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus" always gives Uptodate as "False" for my Windows 7 PC. I have even tried "Invoke-CSManagementStoreReplication" but nothing changed.   • Losing windows XP files. How to retrieve them?

    I have a portable 500 GB HDD.Since last few days, all files of some folder are getting kinda corrupted.I can't access/delete them. Here is the example. If I try to access these files/folders, I get following error. This thing is kinda spreading in my HDD.Till now it has affected two folders worth 70 GB.In which one folder is backup folder where all my important data resides.So I am really in loss if I loose this data.     I am looking at various FOSS options to build a robust EMail solution for a government funded university. Commercial options are to be chosen only in the worst case scenario. Here are the requirements: Approx 1000-1500 users - Postfix or Exim? (Sendmail is out;-)) Mailing lists for different groups/Need web based archive - Mailman? Sympa? Centralised identity store - OpenLDAP? Fedora 389DS? Secure IMAP only - no POP3 required - Courier? Dovecot? Cyrus?? Anti Spam - SpamAssasin? what else? Calendaring - ?? webmail - good to have, not mandatory - needs to be very secure...so squirrelmail is out;-)? Other questions: What mailbox storage format to use? where to store? database/file system? Simple and effective HA options? Is there a web proxy equivalent to squid in the mail server world? software load balancers?CARP? Monitoring and alert? Backup? The govt wants to stimulate the local economy by buying hardware locally from whitebox vendors. Also local consultants and university students will do the integration. We looked at out-of-the-box integrated solutions like Axigen, Zimbra and GMail but each was ruled out in favour of a DIY approach in the hopes of full control over the data and avoiding vendor lockin - which i though was a smart thing to do. I wish more provincial governments in the developing world think of these sort of initiatives As for OS - Debian, FreeBSD would be first preference. Commercial OS's need not apply. CentOS as second tier option...
