  • Adding Mysql Columns in Rails Rake

    I have a rake file that does a series of calculations on a database. Basically it adds usage on equipment regularly. At the end of the day it needs to add that days total to a monthly total table and update that same table. i use the following simple concepts: To get data from the database is pretty simple: @usages = Usage.find(:all) time = Time.new for usage in @usages sql = ActiveRecord::Base.connection To insert it into the database: sql.execute "INSERT (or UPDATE) into usages ## add values and options as per MySQL But how do I: take a column from a database, add all of its values together that have a common value in another column, (i.e. if column x == value y) and then insert it into another column in another table, say dailyusages?     I'm quite stuck with this problem for sometime now.. How do I sort column A depending on the contents of Column B? I have this sample: ID count columnA ColumnB 12 1 A B 13 2 C D 14 3 B C I want to sort it like this: ID count ColumnA ColumnB 12 1 A B 14 3 B C 13 2 C D so I need to sort the rows if the previous row of ColumnB = the next row of ColumnA I'm thinking a loop? but can't quite imagine how it will work... I understand the "most stupid" way to do it naming tbColors three times in the FROM section, using a different alias for each column to replace. How would a non-stupid way look?

    There are several ways to get data from a query or a table|view to the clipboard. You know the tried and true, copy and paste. But what if you only want one or more columns, not every column? There are several ways to do this, let’s see if we can’t identify all of them. Write your query to only include the data you want Obvious? Yes. Needed to be said? Definitely. The best tuning tip is to only ask for the data you need, only when you absolutely need it. But let’s look at a few more practical ways to do this. Hide the unwanted columns Mouse right click on an column header. In the context menu, select ‘Columns.’ Hide the columns you don’t want. Copy and paste. WYSIWYG Grids, Hide Columns and Filter Rows Mouse select the columns Obvious, but a bit painful. For a very large dataset, you’ll be holding down the Shift and PageDown buttons – but it works. Remember to use Ctrl+Shift+C to get the column headers with the data. Use the Export Wizard This used to be called ‘Unload’ – agreed, not a great name. So, we changed it. In a grid, right mouse click on the data, and on the context menu, select ‘Export…’ Select your format – I suggest ‘delimited’ or ‘fixed’ for copying data to the clipboard. You can export to the clipboard, yes you can! Click ‘Next.’ Click in the Columns dialog, and choose the columns you want copied.   • Script to reorder ACLs in Windows server 2008?

    I have ran a tool called admnalow.exe that re-grants access to the local administrators (BUILTIN\Administrators) group for all directories and subdirectories in a given path. The problem is it seems to have caused the ACL's to be ordered improperly. I've been looking everywhere and have been unable to find a .vbs or any other script that will parse through a set of directories and reorder the ACLs. This can be done manually but would be incomprehensible for thousands of directories. Can anyone help?!?!

  • MySQL use certain columns, based on other columns

    I have this query: SELECT COUNT(articles.id) AS count FROM articles, xml_documents, streams WHERE articles.xml_document_id = xml_documents.id AND xml_documents.stream_id = streams.id AND articles.published_at BETWEEN '2010-01-01' AND '2010-04-01' AND streams.brand_id = 7 Which just uses the default equajoin by specifying three tables in csv format in the FROM clause.. What I need to do is group this by a value found within articles.source (raw xml).. so it could turn into this: SELECT COUNT(articles.id) AS count, ExtractValue(articles.source, "/article/media_type") AS media_type FROM articles, xml_documents, streams WHERE articles.xml_document_id = xml_documents.id AND xml_documents.stream_id = streams.id AND articles.published_at BETWEEN '2010-01-01' AND '2010-04-01' AND streams.brand_id = 7 GROUP BY media_type which works fine, the problem is, I'm using rails, and using STI for the xml_documents table. The articles.source that is provided to the ExtractValue method will be of a couple different formats.. So what I need to be able to do is use "/article/media_type" IF xml_documents.type = 'source one' and use "/article/source" if xml_documents.type = 'source two' This is just because the two document types format their XML differently, but I don't want to have to run multiple queries to retrieve this information.. It would be nice if one could use a ternary operator, but i don't think this is possible.. EDIT At this Point I am looking at making a temp table, or simply using UNION to place multiple result sets together..

  • Reorder inputs before submiting form

    Is there any way to reorder or manipulate a set of inputs before posting to a script for processing? I'm able to reorder the elements in the DOM no problem, but getting this to happen after the user presses the submit button and before the browser makes the POST is a bit tricky. I'm using the ajaxForm plugin in jQuery. There is a beforeSubmit callback, but this doesn't seem to allow me to reorded the inputs.

Those of you studying for Microsoft Certified Master: SQL Server will no doubt have found the Readiness Videos published on TechNet and Kimberley Tripp’s (Blog|Twitter) webcast in this series on Sparse columns provides an excellent resource showing different schema designs and specifically where sparse columns fit in.   • How to Transpose Rows and Columns in Excel 2013

    You’ve setup your worksheet with all your row and column headings and you’ve entered all your data. Then, you discover that it would look better if the rows were the columns and the columns were the rows. How do you accomplish this easily? There is an easy way to convert your rows to columns and vice versa using the Transpose feature in Excel. We’ll show you how. Select the cells containing the headings and data you want to transpose. Click Copy or press Ctrl + C. Click in a blank cell on the spreadsheet. This cell will be the top, left corner of the new table of data. Click the down arrow on the Paste button and select Paste Special from the drop-down menu. On the Paste Special dialog box, select the Transpose check box so there is a check mark in the box and click OK. The rows become the columns and the columns become the rows. The original set of data still exists. You can select those cells and delete the headings and data, if desired. Isn’t that a lot easier and faster than retyping all your data?

  • Layout Columns - Equal Height

    I remember first starting out using tables for layouts and learned that I should not be doing that. I am working on a new site and can not seem to do equal height columns without using tables. Here is an example of the attempt with div tags. <div class="row"> <div class="column">column1</div> <div class="column">column2</div> <div class="column">column3</div> <div style="clear:both"></div> </div> Now what I tried with that was doing making columns float left and setting their widths to 33% which works fine, I use the clear:both div so that the row would be the size of the biggest column, but the columns will be different sizes based on how much content they have. I have found many fixes which mostly involve css hacks and just making it look like its right but that's not what I want. I thought of just doing it in javascript but then it would look different for those who choose to disable their javascript. The only true way of doing it that I can think of is using tables since the cells all have equal heights in the same row. But I know its bad to use tables. After searching forever I than came across this: http://intangiblestyle.com/lab/equal-height-columns-with-css/ What it seems to do is exactly the same as tables since its just setting its display exactly like tables. Would using that be just as bad as using tables? I honestly can't find anything else that I could do. edit @Su' I have looked into "faux columns" and do not think that is what I want. I think I would be able to implement better designs for my site using the display:table method. I posted this question because I just wasn't sure if I should since I have always heard its bad using tables in website layouts.

    I have a simple gtk.TreeView with a gtk.ListStore model and set_reorderable(True), I want to catch the signal/event emited when the user reorder through drag&drop the list, but the documentation does not help much: "The application can listen to these changes by connecting to the model's signals" So I tried to connect the model (ListStore) signals... but surprise! ListStore has no signals, so you are dispatched to TreeModel signals, then I tried to connect with the TreeModel "rows-reordered" signal with no lucky. How should I catch the list reorder performed by the user?

  • Data table columns become out of order after changing data source.

    This is kind of a oddball problem so I will try to describe the best that I can. I have a DataGridView that shows a list of contracts and various pieces of information about them. There are three view modes: Contract Approval, Pre-Production, and Production. Each mode has it's own set of columns that need to be displayed. } The issue is when I check a button the first time, everything shows up ok. I choose another view, everything is ok. But when I click on the first view the columns are out of order (it is like they are in reverse order but it is not exactly the same). this happens only to the first page you click on, the other two are fine. You can click off and click back on as many times as you want after those initial steps, The first list you selected at the start will be out of order the other two will be correct. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

  • Applying Interactive Sorting to Multiple Columns in Reporting Services

    A nice feature that appeared first in SQL Server 2008 is the ability to allow the user to click a column header to sort that column. It defaults to an ascending sort first, but you can click the column again to switch to a descending sort. You can learn more about interactive sorts in general at the Adding Interactive Sort to a Data Region in Books Online. Not mentioned in the article is how to apply interactive sorting to multiple columns, hence the reason for this post! Let’s say that I have a simple table like this: To enable interactive sorting, I open the Text Box properties for each of the column headers – the ones in the top row. Here’s an example of how I set up basic interactive sorting: Now when I preview the report, I see icons appear in each text box on the header row to indicate that interactive sorting is enabled. The initial sort order that displays when you preview the report depends on how you design the report. In this case, the report sorts by Sales Territory Group first, and then by Calendar Year. Interactive sorting overrides the report design. So let’s say that I want to sort first by Calendar Year, and then by Sales Territory Group. To do this, I click the arrow to the right of Calendar Year, and then, while pressing the Shift key, I click the arrow to the right of Sales Territory Group twice (once for ascending order and then a second time for descending order). Now my report looks like this: This technique only seems to work when you have a minimum of three columns configured with interactive sorting. If I remove the property from one of the columns in the above example, and try to use the interactive sorting on the remaining two columns, I can sort only the first column. The sort on the second column gets ignored. I don’t know if that’s by design or a bug, but I do know that’s what I’m experiencing when I try it out!

On the 3rd instance of this class in my application the Column at Index 1 will not display String values. Integer values are displayed properly. If I add print statements to my OnGetItemText method the values show up in my console properly. This behavior is not present in the first two instances of this class, and my class does not contain any type checking code with respect to value display. It was suggested by someone on the wxPython users' group that I create a standalone sample that demonstrates this issue if I can. I'm working on that, but have not yet had time to create a sample that does not rely on database access. Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out on this one.

  • Gridview looses ItemTemplate after columns are removed

    I'm trying to bind a datatable to a gridview where I've removed some of the autogenerated columns in the code behind. I've got two template columns and it seems that when I alter the gridview in code behind and remove the non-templated columns that the templates loose the controls that are in them. Using the following as a sample, "Header A" will continue to be visible but "Header B" will dissapear after removing any columsn that are located at index 2 and above. I'm creating columns in my codebehind for the grid as a part of a reporting tool. If I don't remove the columns then there doesn't seem to be an issue. <asp:GridView ID="DataGrid1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false" AllowPaging="True" PageSize="10" GridLines="Horizontal"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Header A" > <ItemTemplate > Text A </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField> <HeaderTemplate> Header B </HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> Text B </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> </asp:GridView> For i = 2 To DataGrid1.Columns.Count - 1 DataGrid1.Columns.RemoveAt(2) Next EDIT So from what I've read this seems to be a problem that occurs when the grid is altered. Does anyone know of a good workaround to re-initialize the template columns or set them up again so that when the non-template columns are removed that hte templates don't get removed as well?

  • Importing data from text file to specific columns using BULK INSERT

    Bulk insert is much faster than using other techniques such as  SSIS. However, when you are using bulk insert you can’t insert to specific columns. If, for example, there are five columns in a table you should have five values for each record in the text file you are importing from. This is an issue when you are expecting default values to be inserted into tables. Let us say you have table as below: In this table, you are expecting ID, Status and CreatedDate to be updated automatically, so your text file may only have   FirstName  LastName  values as below: Dinesh,Asanka Saman,Liyanage Ruwan,Silva Susantha,Bathige Jude,Peires Sanjeewa,Jayawickrama If you use bulk insert to this table like follows, You will be returned an error: Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 1, column 1 (ID). To avoid this you will need to create a view with the columns you are expecting to fill and use bulk insert against it. If you check the table now, you will see table with values in the text file and the default values.
