• Trouble configuring sendmail to relay mail

  I am trying to configure sendmail and ufw on an ubuntu server (ServerA) so that another server (ServerB) can send mail through it. In my /etc/mail/access file I have the following line (a.b.c.d is the IP of ServerB): Connect:a.b.c.d RELAY My ufw status shows the following rule I added: 25/tcp ALLOW a.b.c.d When I telnet from ServerA I get through: telnet localhost 25 When I telnet from ServerB I don't (w.x.y.z is the IP of ServerA): telnet w.x.y.z 25 telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused I did restart the sendmail daemon after editing the access file. What could I be missing? Something in sendmail.mc? Edit: netstat -an|grep -w 25 tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

• Sendmail Alias for Nonlocal Email Account

  I admin a server which is running a number of web applications for a software dev team (source control, bug tracking, etc). The server has sendmail running solely as a transport to the departmental email server over which I have no control. We have someone who is still in the department but no longer on the dev team so I need to configure the transport agent to redirect all outgoing email (which would be coming from these applications) to the person that has taken their place. I added an entry in /etc/aliases like such: [email protected]: [email protected] But when I run /etc/init.d/sendmail newaliases I get the following error: /etc/mail/aliases: line 32: [email protected]... cannot alias non-local names So clearly I'm doing something I shouldn't. Is there a way to get aliases to work with non-local names or alternatively is their a way to accomplish my goal of redirecting outgoing mail for this user to another one? Technical Specs if the matter: Ubuntu 6.06 sendmail 8.13 (ubuntu provided package)

• "IP May Be Forged" - Sendmail Warning

  CentOS 5.x | SendMail 8 Can I get clarification on what exactly the warning "IP may be forged" means and what conditions cause it? I recently configured SendMail to relay email from my exchange server and it's showing that warning in the logs. The messages get delivered fine but I don't like the warnings. I originally thought that there was an inconsistency between the servername used in the EHLO statement from Exchange and the respective PTR record for the source IP for Exchange. But upon examining a packet capture, I see exchange using "EHLO domain.com" and that the source IP has a PTR of "domain.com". Maybe sendmail doesn't like that the greeting only has the domain? -M

  I am trying to send mail via AWS SES uisng Sendmail. I have Sendmail version 8.14.4 installed and I followed the first section of this useful tutorial by Amazon. • Sendmail Undeliverable Redirection?

  Good afternoon; I don't know much about sendmail, so this may be fairly easy for those of you more experienced with it. We have an account, "[email protected]", sending reports to various groups. From time to time an undeliverable message will be sent back to "[email protected]". We'd like for those undeliverable messages to be rerouted, or bounced, from "[email protected]" to a group of our choosing. To carve out a scenario for clarity: [email protected] sends a report to [email protected] and [email protected] [email protected] has someone who's mail account no longer exists, triggering an undeliverable message being sent back to [email protected] Rather than having the undeliverable message sit in [email protected]'s Inbox, we'd like for it to be automatically rerouted/bounced to an admin group, [email protected] So I guess a "rule" of sorts. I've come across this solution: Sendmail : ignore local delivery But I don't know enough about sendmail to know if this is what will fit this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Some of the mails for a particular domain are not getting delivered from our mail server. We are using sendmail for mail server. But if I send the mail through commandline using mailx command from the same server , the message is going through... • STARTTLS issues with sendmail

  I just switch hosts and now have to configure sendmail with certificates in order to send mail. Is there anyone here that can point me to some solid documentation that is known to work? I'm on CentOS, using sendmail 8.13. I am currently trying to figure out why I am getting "Relaying denied. Proper authentication required". • Purpose of the postfix.sendmail -n option

  I'm using a PHP librairy to send email through postfix. But i'm keep getting this message in the logs when i try to send emails : postfix/sendmail[15782]: fatal: -n option not supported I will remove this flag from my code but i'm curious about the purpose of this flag which seems to be useless (http://linux.die.net/man/1/sendmail.postfix). I can't find any information about it on google, any idea about the purpose of this option?

• Sendmail ignoring parameters

  We're sending ~60k emails to non-local addresses with sendmail and I manually set the -f flag to [email protected]. This all works fine and dandy when I limit my PHP script to 5000 addresses. If I remove the limitation, sendmail ingnores the parameters and sends all emails with a reply-to and return-path of [email protected]. I'm sleeping in between each email for 500ms, that should not be the problem.

• Postfix sendmail bypass restrictions [on hold]

  I have setup a postfix/dovecot mail server and all thing work fine! BUT: I use virtual mailboxes and when you try to send a mail to a non existent mailbox via telnet postfix will punch you... But if you use sendmail, all restricitons are bypassed... This is bad becuase dovecot does not know what to do with this mail! It will stay in the queue for ever... How can I force sendmail to use normal smtp?

  I'm trying to get sendmail working on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.4), so that I can send mail with PHP's mail() function. If you know how to do this without sendmail, I'd be interested in that also. The plan is to send mail through smtp.gmail.com using my gmail account, unless you have a better idea. I did this and that didn't work. In /etc/postfix/smtp_sasl_passwords I tried both:     smtp.yourisp.com username:password and     smtp.yourisp.com [email protected]:password The problem seems to be that google doesn't like me. • Sendmail doesn't work with iptables, even though smtp and dns are allowed

  I have sendmail installed on Ubuntu 10.04 solely for the use of the php mail() function. This works fine unless iptables is running (I've been using sendmail [email protected] to test this).   Hi, By default, sendmail (I have version 8.13 on an RHEL4) allows only local mails. I wanted to allow mails from a particular network to be relayed via the system, so I did the following based on suggestions from various places : /etc/mail/access : Added the subnet and the domain 8.37 RELAY mydomain.com RELAY (I assume this is the originating email's domain) This alone did not work, so I added the following to sendmail.mc FEATURE(access_db)dbl Now, the problem is that it is allowing access from other domains as well. To test it out, I removed 8.37 RELAY from the access, and changed the email from field to [email protected] However, I still receive the mail. What is the correct way to configure this, so that only mails from a particular subnet are relayed ?

  So here is my situation. I have this 2 DNS (say a.org and b.org) with the same IP address (both A record) tied to this box. We have Google mail handing our a.org emails . I want b.org emails to forward to users at a.org emails . My sendmail is getting confused and is delivering all b.org emails locally instead of forwarding them to a.org (which is specified in the .forward) . • Sendmail relay out of Amazon EC2?

  I have a site running on CentOS 5.4 through Amazon EC2. Unfortunately, Amazon has had nothing but trouble with their entire IP range getting black listed from spam tracking services regularly. I need a mail server, so I setup an smtp server elsewhere that I want to send to, but I can't just send directly to it through PHP because the direct smtp request is way too slow. What I want to do is relay through sendmail, but I've never used sendmail before, so I have no idea how to configure it. All I want is for all emails sent from localhost to be relayed to one specific external server, but I don't know how to do that. I tried to find a tutorial online, but couldn't find anything that was particularly clear as to how I go about doing that. Can anyone help me out?

  I need to alias all mail coming from another SMTP server to this one account "myinbox". The system in question is to receive all e-mail on the domain, if that's any help. http://william.shallum.net/random-notes/sendmailredirectallmailfordevelopment is a template for the beginning of a solution, but that routes everything (including outgoing and internal mail) to that one account, and trying to understand how these R rules work is making my head spin. I think the answer is in sendmail.mc rather than any Procmail configuration. So I think what I generally don't want the filter to do is: Interfere w/any outgoing e-mail Interfere w/any internal e-mail Sometimes some cron job causes "root" to mail to "root". I don't want these to go to myinbox. Cause infinite loops Who does? Bounce messages and any DSNs come to mind. I'm running Sendmail 8.13.1 and Procmail 3.22.

  I'm running a webserver with a contact form which triggers a php script to sendmail the message to a local account on the server, and I want to be notified on my regular email account when I got new messages. I could have a notification per email or just send the emails directly to my account but that'd be too much: I just want a "you have new mail" notification sent to my email every time the inbox turns from 0 unread messages to 1. Google is burying me in sendmail documentation, and still can't find anything about it. Any ideas?

• sendmail: Transport endpoint is not connected

  A few days ago my mail server (fedora 10, running sendmail 8.14.3) started getting "Transport endpoint is not connected" messages in the log. It seems to be happening for bigger mail hosts (hotmail, gmail, aol, etc). The errors started happening about the same time I upgraded clamav ... so I just tried downgrading clamav to the previous version, but the error keeps happening. I was dubious anyways ... why a milter would effect sendmail's ability to connect with a remote server was beyond me. If I force the mail queue's to run, the messages are delivered normally. I had this happen once before ... and I thought it was related to a milter I had configured but wasn't using ... but that milter is not in use at all now. Any suggestions?
