  • Why does waking from hibernate take nearly ten minutes on 11.10?

    Im running 11.10 64bit on a Dell XPS 15 L502x laptop. It uses an i5 proc and has 16Gb ram. Whenever I close the lid on the laptop I have it set to hibernate as I want to continue whatever I was previously running. Generally that is simple text editing, so my mem usage would normally be only a Gb or 2. When I open the lid and it resumes from Hibernation, it takes up to ten minutes to do so. Extremely frustrating. Is there anything I can do to make hibernate function properly. On windows it used to wake from Hibernation in less than 30 seconds. Its really frustrating and souring my experience with Ubuntu. Any help would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks guys/gals! S

  • Installing Windows 8 over 12.04, but getting "error: unknown filesystem"

    I have had bad experiences with 12.04 on my laptop, too many things just dont work so am wiping it and replacing with Windows 8 release preview to get it running again. Anyway, I installed normally, deleted partitions and formatted and installed windows fine, but now there is an error coming up when it boots: error: unknown filesystem grub rescue Ive tried repairing from Windows 8 disk, doing FixMbr and FixBoot but hasnt worked, neither has reinstalling. Any ideas how to get rid of this?

  • Allow access to WordPress site only by links in email newsletters

    I send out a personal email newsletter, and have been looking into sending it via some service like MailChimp, or sendy.co. Many of these email services suggest, or require, the email newsletter content to be available online, in case the recipient's email app doesn't render it properly, or at all. The thing is I don't want my newsletter contents visible to the whole world. Nor do I want to require existing recipients to make accounts/be assigned accounts, with passwords. So, the question is: How can my WordPress site content be viewable only by clicking on the link to it in the email newsletter. It can't be found in a Google search; but once at the site the visitor can view previous newsletter contents. It seems an .htaccess file would do the trick, but I have been unable to figure out the syntax for this. Thanks for your help. I have copied below two other questions, and answers, which have helped me word my question clearly. Similar to this request about allowing access to a certain group while still restricting access to the world: Is there a way to password protect directory only in cpanel. But the user should not be prompted the password, when they try to access it via web?   • How to Align Gun with Bullets

    I have a top-down 2D shooter. I have an image of a player holding a gun, that rotates to face the mouse. Please note that the gun isn't a separate image tethered to the player, but rather part of the player. Right now, bullets are created at the player's x and y. This works when the player is facing the right way, but not when they rotate. The bullets move in the right direction, but don't come from the gun. How can I fix this?   • Recover files from a SATA drive from USB

    I've damaged the drive I had in my windows laptop and now I want to try to recover as many files as possible. I know very little about linux though. I have Ubuntu 10.04. I have a docking station for the drive and it is connected to my linux machine. The drive appears in disk utility. Unfortunately, this is where I have no idea where to proceed. Any help is appreciated and I can provide more info if needed.

  • Why do users get an HTTP 404 error when attempting to clone a Mercurial repository over HTTP?

    The repository is hosted on my PC. I use Apache with WAMP and TortoiseHG. I have setup users and passwords and they are able to browse the repository in their browsers after entering their usernames and passwords. The problem is that, when they try to clone the repository, they get an HTTP404 file note found error. However, I can clone the repsoitory on my own PC using their credentials. The problem must lie somehwere with the mercurial setup.

  • Everything has an Interface [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Do I need to use an interface when only one class will ever implement it? I am taking over a project where every single real class is implementing an Interface. The vast majority of these interfaces are implemented by a single class that share a similar name and the exact same methods (ex: MyCar and MyCarImpl). Almost no 2 classes in the project implement more than the interface that shares its name. I know the general recommendation is to code to an interface rather than an implementation, but isn't this taking it a bit too far? The system might be more flexible in that it is easier to add a new class that behaves very much like an existing class. However, it is significantly harder to parse through the code and method changes now require 2 edits instead of 1. Personally, I normally only create interfaces when there is a need for multiple classes to have the same behavior. I subscribe to YAGNI, so I don't create something unless I see a real need for it. Am I doing it all wrong or is this project going way overboard?

  • Javascript Onclick Problem with Table Rows

    Hello. I am having problems with my JScript code. I am trying to loop through all of the rows in a table and add an onclick event. I can get the onclick event to add but have a couple of problems. The first problem is that all rows end up getting set up with the wrong parameter for the onclick event. The second problem is that it only works in IE. Here is the code excerpt... shanesObj.addTableEvents = function(){ table = document.getElementById("trackerTable"); for(i=1; i<table.getElementsByTagName("tr").length; i++){ row = table.getElementsByTagName("tr")[i]; orderID = row.getAttributeNode("id").value; alert("before onclick: " + orderID); row.onclick=function(){shanesObj.tableRowEvent(orderID);}; }} shanesObj.tableRowEvent = function(orderID){ alert(orderID);} The table is located at the following location... http://www.blackcanyonsoftware.com/OrderTracker/testAJAX.html The id's of each row in sequence are... 95, 96, 94... For some reason, when shanesObj.tableRowEvent is called, the onclick is set up for all rows with the last value id that went through iteration on the loop (94).   • How can I put text from a multi-line text box into one string?

    Dear reader, I'm faced with a bit of an issue. The scenario is that I have a multi-line text box and I want to put all that text into one single string, without any new lines in it. This is what I have at the moment: string[] values = tbxValueList.Text.Split('\n'); foreach (string value in values) { if (value != "" && value != " " && value != null && value != "|") { valueList += value; } } The problem is that no matter what I try and what I do, there is always a new line (at least I think?) in my string, so instead of getting: "valuevaluevalue" I get: "value value value". I've even tried to replace with string.Replace and regex.Replace, but alas to no avail. Please advise. Yours sincerely, Kevin van Zanten

  • Creating block devices for openstack deployment using MAAS and juju (nova-volume deployment)

    Hi, I'm currently trying to get a openstack deployment working by using MAAS with 9 nodes and juju. To do this I found this guide, working with ubuntu 12.04 LTS https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuCloudInfrastructure and followed it as good as I can. After a vigorous amount of trial and error I finally got to the point where I'm supposed to deploy nova-volume using the "custom" config file. However when my node is started and shows up as running in the "juju status" report the service reports the installation failed. I'm trying to install with juju jitsu by the way. I think it has something to do with the following statement in the openstack.cfg file : nova-volume: # This must be a free block device that is writable on the nova-volume host. block-device: "xvdb" overwrite: "true" I did some research and found that (at least I think) this refers to a Xen Virtual Drive/device, and because the device is not present on the node it's being deployed to, the installation fails. What I don't understand is how I am supposed to have such a block device available on a machine which was completely managed by MAAS. Does anyone here have any experience with this and knows of a way to solve this, or am I missing something big here. Some kind of missing link between the MAAS and a separate XEN host ? My MAAS server is ubuntu 12.04LTS Server. All help is welcome. Kind regards, Tom

    Túl vagyunk a Technology Forum rendezvényünkön, és én azt gondolom nagyon hasznos volt. Grant nagyszeru eloadást tartott. Címe Forms to ADF: WHy and How. Szerintem maga a demó, ami persze nem letöltheto igazán hasznos volt nem csak Forms háttérrel rendelkezo fejlesztok számára is. Sok rendezvényünkön hintettük az igét ADF-vel kapcsolatban, de átüto penetrációt nem értünk el vele a hazai piacon. Ennek persze több oka is van/lehet. Egyrészrol még mindig azt gondolom (fejlesztoi múltamból fakadóan is), hogy Magyarországon mindenki saját fejlesztésu keretrendszerrel szeret dolgozni. Ezen persze órákat lehet vitatkozni pro és kontra amit akár egy másik bejegyzésben szívesen meg i teszek ha van rá igény. De tény az, hogy már elmúltak azok az idok amikor nem voltak használható keretrendszerek, vagy ha úgy tetszik komponensek. Mégis, megéri manapság lefejleszteni pl: egy üzenetküldo (messaging) alrendszert. Hát szerintem nem, mint ahogy ma már perzisztencia kezelo réteget se állunk neki megírni. Persze ha a projekt elbírja, akkor kifizetodo. Szerencsére egyre több cég ismeri fel és várja el, hogy nem kell neki lefejleszteni egy komplett keretrendszert mikor számos használható van a piacon. Visszatérve az alap kérdésre, az ADF-re azt gondolom, hogy egy fo vissza tartó ero volt a termék érettsége, funkcionalitása és leginkább jövoképe. Nos e tekintetben elismerem, hogy bár több, mint 10 éves múltra tekint vissza korábban voltak buktatók, zsákutcák. Ugyanakkor nem szabad elfelejteni, hogy az Oracle maga ezzel fejleszti új generációs, modern Fusion Appplications (EBusiness Suite, PeopleSoft stb.) alkalmazásait. Tehát több mint ezer(!) fejleszto használja nap, mint nap Java EE alkalmazás fejlesztésére. Nem kevés hangsúlyt fordítva az integrációs, testreszabhatósági képességekre. Olyannyira hangsúlyos eszköz lett, hogy az Oracle teljes middleware portfoliójában visszaköszön. Ami pedig a funkcionalitást, a felhasználói felületet, a produktivitást illeti tényleg jó. Persze az utolsó és egyben legfontosabb szempont kishazánkban az ár. Nos tényleg nincs ingyen. Pontosabban ha az ember vesz egy Weblogic szervert (amúgyis kell a futtatáshoz egy JEE szerver) akkor ingyenesen használható. A termékhez pedig dokumentáció, support, javítás, blogok, közösségi fórumok stb. áll rendelkezésünkre. És akkor most újabb vita indulhat arról, hogy akarunk e fizetni a szerverért. Na errol tényleg fogok indítani egy bejegyzést majd. Mert én azt hiszem, tapasztalatom, hogy itthon összekeverik az open source modelt az ingyenességgel. Azért az alapigazság szerintem még mindig áll: ingyen nincsen semmi. Kérdés csak az, hogy mik az igényeink, elvárásaink.

  • Switching from Visual Studio to Eclipse [closed]

    I've been using Visual Studio for about 6 years now, which is enough time to know most useful keyboard shortcuts and little features. I recently had to switch to Eclipse and java for school, and now I'm constantly searching for the right keys to press. I have searched around for a definitve guide on this, but I couldn't find any. Here's what I want to know: For any feature in Visual Studio, what is the equivalent feature in Eclipse called and what is it's default keyboard shortcut? Are there any things that work very differently in Eclipse, that one might misunderstand or do wrong at first when switching? Are there features in Visual Studio that Eclipse does not have, and is there a workaround? I hope we can create a guide to make life easier for future developers that have to make this switch. You can answer any of the three questions above (no need to do all three), and multiple per answer if you want. I can't mark questions as community wiki anymore, but I do think that's appropriate here.

  • Uninstall ubuntu from external hard drive + remove bootloader from internal hd

    I have created a bootable usb stick with linuxlive and Ubuntu.I then tried to install ubuntu on my external harddrive. However I guess I wrongly picked the drive where the boot section is installed, it now is installed on my internal (C:) drive. When I open the bios bootsequence it says Ubuntu 2 times? As if the boot is installed twice? I'd like to uninstall Ubuntu from my external drive but most important: I don't want Grub to be start up on my PC. I tried booting in Windows 8 recovery mode and used the following commands: bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot However the ubuntu choices wont disappear? I then tried to add bootrec /scanos and bootrec /rebuildbcd to the commands but somehow this wont work either. Anyone got some ideas? Thank you in advance! Best regards, Bart
