  • Silent Printing of PDF From Within Java

    - by Paul Reiners
We are looking into silent printing of PDF documents from within Java. The printing will be invoked from the desktop and not through a browser so we cannot use JavaScript. PDF Renderer is an operational solution but their rendering quality is not acceptable. iText does not seem to be pluggable with the Java print service. There are some commercial Java libraries, jPDFPrint by Qoppa, JPedal, and ICEpdf which we have not tried out yet. Does anybody have any experience with PDF silent printing from Java?

  • Mutation Problem - Clojure

    - by Silanglaya Valerio
having trouble changing an element of my function represented as a list. code for random function: (defn makerandomtree-10 [pc maxdepth maxwidth fpx ppx] (if-let [output (if (and (< (rand) fpx) (> maxdepth 0)) (let [head (nth operations (rand-int (count operations))) children (doall (loop[function (list) width maxwidth] (if (pos? width) (recur (concat function (list (makerandomtree-10 pc (dec maxdepth) (+ 2 (rand-int (- maxwidth 1))) fpx ppx))) (dec width)) function)))] (concat (list head) children)) (if (and (< (rand) ppx) (>= pc 0)) (nth parameters (rand-int (count parameters))) (rand-int 100)))] output )) I will provide also a mutation function, which is still not good enough. I need to be able to eval my statement, so the following is still insufficient. (defn mutate-5 "chooses a node changes that" [function pc maxwidth pchange] (if (< (rand) pchange) (let [output (makerandomtree-10 pc 3 maxwidth 0.5 0.6)] (if (seq? output) output (list output))) ;mutate the children of root ;declare an empty accumulator list, with root as its head (let [head (list (first function)) children (loop [acc(list) walker (next function)] (println "----------") (println walker) (println "-----ACC-----") (println acc) (if (not walker) acc (if (or (seq? (first function)) (contains? (set operations) (first function))) (recur (concat acc (mutate-5 walker pc maxwidth pchange)) (next walker)) (if (< (rand) pchange) (if (some (set parameters) walker) (recur (concat acc (list (nth parameters (rand-int (count parameters))))) (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil)) (recur (concat acc (list (rand-int 100))) (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil))) (recur acc (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil)))) ))] (concat head (list children))))) (side note: do you have any links/books for learning clojure?)

  • Office 2010 silent activation after unattended installation

    - by MarkM
I've created an unattended install of Office 2010 using the OCT. We are using a MAK rather than KMS (not my decision). Is there a way to activate Office 2010 after the install? Even though the key is set during the install, it does not activate. I don't want the users to be prompted to activate since this is going to be in a lab environment.

  • silent failure while creating odbc data source

    - by Peter
I just got really confused trying to create an ODBC data source in Windows 2003 R2. I can create a connection to my chosen server (a MS SQL Server) on the "user DSN" tab, but when I try to do the same thing on the "system DSN tab", the process fails but without an error message. I am able to connect to the target database fine at the end of configuring a new data source, but when I click OK, the data source just isn't there. No error message, no sign that anything went amiss, other than the lack of a new data source. Very annoying, as I had to repeat the process a few times to make sure I wasn't crazy. Anybody got any hints? I suspect it is a permission problem of some sort but since there is no error message, I don't know where to start.

  • Group Policy Software Installs Too Silent on Windows 7

    - by jonblock
I'm trying to migrate a Windows XP deployment process to Windows 7. The process has been surprisingly smooth, after figuring out how to bring up a base system. We rely heavily on Group Policy software installation, which in XP can mean long periods on any given morning sitting around watching the machine install new updates. At least the typical Windows Installer message shows the user that something is indeed happening. As far as I can tell, Windows 7 retains the startup installation process (good), but eliminates the on-screen message to indicate what's happening (bad). All a user will see, possibly for a half-hour or more if they haven't restarted for a while, is the electric hamster wheel and the words "Please wait...". I forsee a significant increase in support calls... If you're familiar with msiexec.exe parameters, XP behaves like /qb-, and 7 behaves like /qn. I want the /qb- behavior back. Is there a way to re-enable the Windows Installer notices for Group Policy startup installations?

  • Why are SIP calls via my server silent?

    - by Archcode
I have FreeSWITCH SIP server up and running. It has public IP and sits behind 1-to-1 NAT (it's Amazon EC2 instance actually). I can connect to it, make a call to other endpoint (namely, my android device to my pc and vice versa) and signals are send with no problems (call, answer, hangup, etc). Unfortunately, and what drives me crazy, that's all: no audio gets through, no video either. Server does not throw errors, it reports many retransmission though, looks like this: switch_rtp.c:915 [ zrtp engine]: WARNING! HELLO Max retransmissions count reached (20 retries). ID=15 Codecs are set up correctly (same config worked locally on my LAN). NAT/firewall on client side may be a problem, signals do get through (perhaps due to fixed port, data streaming runs on random one, that is currently my best bet). STUN/TURN/ICE setting on client seem to have no effect. Endpoints sit behind symmetric NAT. On server there are no iptables rules, security group is set as suggested there: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Firewall Help, please. How to make it work or at least diagnose what's wrong?

  • Silent install of Japanese Language Pack in Win7

    - by Doltknuckle
Every year, due to re-imaging, I am forced to find a way to install the Japanese language pack on a collection of 30 computers. Each year I look for a way to automate this process, and each year I am forced to do this manually. Maybe this year will be different. Has anyone had any luck with installing and configuring far east language support for windows 7 without user interaction? I have already downloaded kb972813 and have a way to get it out to the computers. What I normally do is this: Run the EXE, use the default settings. Open up language settings and create the JP keyboard. Configure the language bar settings. Copy settings to default user. Delete the local user cache. Sign the different user accounts in to make sure that the default settings are correct. This whole process takes about 10 minutes, multiply that out by 30 machines and you are looking at a 5 hour process. If I can log into all of the computers at once, I can normally cut that down to about an hour. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

  • movie silent until button press, flash as3

    - by pixelGreaser
    I thought I could change the Boolean true/false value, but it's not working. How do I get this to hush, until the button is pressed? import flash.media.Sound; import flash.media.SoundChannel; var soundOn:Boolean = true; //music is ON when we start var myToons:TitleMusic = new TitleMusic(); var myChannel:SoundChannel = myToons.play(0,1000); // endless loop, in effect var myTransform:SoundTransform; mySoundButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,toggleSound); mySoundButton.buttonMode = true; mySoundButton.mouseChildren = false; function toggleSound(e:MouseEvent) { if(soundOn) { // turn sound off myTransform = new SoundTransform(); myTransform.volume = 0; // silent myChannel.soundTransform = myTransform; soundOn = false; mySoundButton.myButtonText.text = "click to turn sound ON"; } else // sound is off { // turn sound on myTransform = new SoundTransform(); myTransform.volume = 1; // full volume myChannel.soundTransform = myTransform; soundOn = true; mySoundButton.myButtonText.text = "click to turn sound OFF"; } }

  • How do you monitor and react when some scheduled job fails? - general question

    - by Dzida
Hi, In many projects my team faced problems with 'silent fails' of some important components. There are lot of tasks executed behind the scenes and if somethings fails (either by errors in logic or hardware problems) in most cases responsible person is not notified (or not notified instantly). I know about heavy-weight monitoring tools that could solve some of that problems but there over-complicated and too expensive for our team. I am interested what are your solutions for such problems.

  • WiX - create a bootstrap that passes arguments to the msi

    - by Dror Helper
I need to create a bootstrap for my WiX project I've tried using setupbld.exe but it will only allow me to create an executable that will show my UI or one that will behave as a silent installer but not both. I need to be able to run the resulting executable with argument that will tell it wether or not to show the UI during installation. I've found this post by John Robbins that explains how to re-build the setup.exe stub used in the creation of the bootstrap but I was hoping there is a simpler way to do what I need. Does anyone know of a way to create a bootstrap that I use to run either as a simple (with UI) install or as a silent install.

  • Android: Ringer mode changed to silent doesn't stop the phone vibrating

    - by Flo
I'm trying to change the ringer mode of the phone to RINGER_MODE_SILENT when a call is incoming by using the following lines of code. AudioManager am = (AudioManager) this.getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE); am.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT); While the phone stops ringing it continue to vibrate although the documentation of RINGER_MODE_SILENT says it should also stop vibrating. I'm using the SDK 1.6 UPDATE: As I didn't find a solution yet, I tried to deactivate the vibration settings manually. am.setVibrateSetting(AudioManager.VIBRATE_TYPE_RINGER, AudioManager.VIBRATE_SETTING_ONLY_SILENT ); But this also doesn't prevent the phone form vibrating when a call is incoming. Any ideas?

I am finding myself with the issue of needing to execute the postgres createuser.exe from a batch script and cannot get it to stop prompting me with the following: Enter name of role to add: my batch script looks like this: echo calling createuser! createuser username %super_user% -s -U Super_Postgres s -q Where %super_user% is a command line argument. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is the documentation that I am referring too: postgres

  • convert string to float without silent NaN/Inf conversion

    - by Peter Hansen
I'd like convert strings to floats using Python 2.6 and later, but without silently converting things like 'NaN' and 'Inf'. Before 2.6, float("NaN") would raise a ValueError. Now it returns a float for which math.isnan() returns True, which is not useful behaviour for my application. Here's what I've got at the moment: import math def get_floats(source): for text in source.split(): try: val = float(text) if math.isnan(val) or math.isinf(val): raise ValueError yield val except ValueError: pass This is a generator, which I can supply with strings containing whitespace-separated sequences representing real numbers. I'd like it to yield only those fields which are purely numeric representations of floats, as in "1.23" or "-34e6", but not for example "NaN" or "-Inf". Test case: assert list(get_floats('1.23 -34e6 NaN -Inf')) == [1.23, -34000000.0] Please suggest alternatives you consider more elegant, even if they involve "look before you leap" (which is normally considered a lesser approach in Python).

  • Patterns for avoiding jQuery silent fails

    - by Matias
Is there any good practice to avoid your jQuery code silently fail? For example: $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)').doSomething(); I know that every time this line get executed, the selector is intended to match at least one element, or certain amount of elements. Is there any standard or good way to validate that? I thought about something like this: var $matchedElements = $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)'); if ($matchedElements.length < 0) throw 'No matched elements'; $matchedElements.doSomething(); Also I think unit testing would be a valid option instead of messing the code. My question may be silly, but I wonder whether there is a better option than the things that I'm currently doing or not. Also, maybe I'm in the wrong way checking if any element match my selector. However, as the page continues growing, the selectors could stop matching some elements and pieces of functionality could stop working inadvertently.

  • setup.iss file is not generated

    - by Omer Dagan
I have a installshiled project which generates setup.exe file. I'd like to enable silent install by generating proper setup.iss file. I ran the following command: Setup.exe /r which lunched the installer, but it never created the setup.iss file. I looked in C:\Windows as the documentation suggested, as well as some other locations (local directory, program files etc.) Why isn't it created and how to fix? Thanks,

  • Run a batch file silently, executed at remote desktop login

    - by ILMV
In our office we are using Linux thin client machines, they work very well except the lack of IE, which is a pain because the corporations we deal with are too stupid to update their web apps (no flame wars please). To solve this problem we have machine in our computer room which users remote desktop into to access internet explorer, this is achieved by running a batch script which opens IE and when it closes logs them off, this setup works well for us. Even though I have @echo off and the cmd window isn't displaying anything, I would really like that batch file to be executed silently, so the cmd window doesn't appear at all. Is this possible? The Ubuntu terminal server client has an option to launch a file / app at login, is there a command I can use to run this batch silently. I have tried these: C:\my_batch.bat /NOCONSOLE C:\my_batch.bat /NOWINDOW C:\my_batch.bat /B C:\my_batch.bat /Q ...with no success, perhaps it's the way I am doing it? Cheers :-) Edit The remote desktop platform is a Windows XP machine, nothing entirely special but not a Windows Server setup.

  • Install Nod32 antivirus silently?

    - by IT Tech
Hi guys/gals, I was hoping that I could find someone on here that may know if it is possible to install Nod32 on a client PC silently. We have some software that will copy the MSI to the remote PC and run it with any specified parameters. The software needs you to import the license key file and tell it where the server is. Is there any way that these details can be pre specified so the user doesn't have to have any interaction on the remote computer. Many thanks in advance.

  • Thermal risks to other components when watercooling CPU

    - by B Sharp
I recently ordered all the components for a new desktop system to replace my old, dying computer. I wanted to have a really quiet desktop, so I got a case rated for being quiet and opted to try a closed-system CPU water cooling kit (Antec Kuhler H2O 620) that was on sale for a very good price over the Thanksgiving weekend. Most of my components are still in transit, but I became somewhat worried when a friend mentioned that abandoning air cooling units can result in heat buildup inside the case due to heat generated by the video card and other components such as RAM, the northbridge, MOSFETs and voltage regulators radiating heat that the CPU fan would normally at least keep circulating around so it doesn't build up in localized areas. Is this a realistic problem? What other precautions should I take to remove heat from other components? Adding more case fans seems like it would get really noisy. Are there quiet alternatives?

  • iSCSI NAS supporting VMware Esxi 5.1 servers in a software development environment

    - by BigTFromAZ
I would like to build (or purchase) the smallest, quietest most energy efficient servers that I can for a low demand environment. These would only have a small disk for guest swap files, a CPU (XEON preferred), 32 Gb of memory and minimal graphics. The virtual machines need to be up but demand will be quite low. Any thought on case, format processors, fans, motherboard, et al? Small, quiet and lots of RAM are the operative words here.

  • Automatic installation of Adobe Framemaker 12

    - by YannD
With Adobe Framemaker XI, We could use Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition v3.1 to embed the serial number and pre-validate the sign-in option. An MSI was generated, and then an automatic installation could be performed, for enterprise deployments for example. It seems Adobe Application manager v3.1 is not working with Adobe Framemaker 12. Is there any way to create a customized installation package, or any command line to use? Thanks in advance YannD.
