  • IIS SMTP unable to relay for domain on local network.

    Hi I have a network with the following servers: EXCH01 - Exchange Server for @domain.com e-mails. TEST-REP01 - Local reporting server. Have IIS SMTP installed and configured. What happens on the TEST-REP01, is that I have a Windows Service that reads reports in a SQL server that is ready for delivery. All reports is sent one at a time, using the local SMTP server. It works perfectly, unless the recipient e-mail address is [email protected] - the domain that the EXCH01 server manages. I get the following error: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected] What can I do to troubleshoot this further?   • SMTP Verb Error on MSExchange Server 2003

    Hi, Every morning for the last two weeks or more I've had to reboot our Exchange Server and often I have to reboot it again during the day. We use a smarthost for sending our mail out and if I view the queues on Exhange System Manager the Small Business SMTP Connector is in a retry state with "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink". I turned logging up to maximum on ExchangeTransport and the only non-information event in EventViewer is “Message delivery to the host '62.13.128.187' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'mail.authsmtp.com' for the following reason: The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'x-exps'. The response from the remote server is ''.” I stopped using the smarthost during the error condition and all I got was lots of small business connector connections with the same error. I can telnet into mail.authsmtp.com and send a mail during the error state. Any pointers would be gratefully received.

    I have been trying for a couple of days to set up a Domino 8.5 server. Basically, I want everything to be run inside a local network. Right now I can send email to other user in the Domino directory without any mail address. I am pretty new to all this stuff, so maybe the answer will be really obvious. What I need to do is be able to send a mail from somewhere else to a domino user that will be redirected to his account. On the Domino server, I also have hMailServer installed on port 25. I configured Domino to use port 26. I followed those step to get where I am now. -I have set the Fully qualified Internet host name to "preview.notes". -Smtp Listener task changed to Enabled to turn on the Listener so that the server can receive messages routed via SMTP routing -Setting up SMTP routing within the local Internet domain (http://www.h2l.com/help/help85%5Fadmin.nsf/f4b82fbb75e942a6852566ac0037f284/7f9738a49efc4f58852574d500097b01?OpenDocument) -I modified the person to use the [email protected] address. -I'm using the hMailServer (which have the local "preview.local" domain name) to send mail to [email protected]. When sending mail I got an error telling that the DNS is not set up correctly. Is using the Domino Smtp server instead of hMailServer will solve the problem? I can Telnet the Domino Smtp Server.

    I am using postfix and dovecot along with zpanel and I tried enabling SSL and then turned it off as I did not have SSL configured yet and I realized it was a bit stupid at the time.     I am having a hard time making the email sending in GitLab to work (changing email in profile settings). My server has exim4, I can tell its working because if I do simple mail() in PHP, it thus sends the email to the recipient. Now, in GitLab seems that it wasn't. So I modified productions.rb to have SMTP settings, and use Google SMTP: config.action_mailer.delivery_method = :smtp config.action_mailer.smtp_settings = { address: "smtp.gmail.com", port: 465, user_name: "[email protected]", password: "hashpassword", domain: "gmail.com", authentication: :plain, enable_starttls_auto: true } I even tried changing the port to 587 and 467 but still it doesn't work. Why is that? Can you please lead me to where I am missing?

    We are using an external commercial smtp server for our newsletters (sending them through .NET components), and they offer two smtp URLs - smtp.critsend.com and fast.critsend.com -, and the second one is reserved for sending singular emails, the first one for bulk. Using nslookup shows that both resolve to the same 4 IP addresses (fast.critsend.com being an Alias). Question: (how) is it possible for the smtp relay to distinguish between different names? Is there something in the headers that can be compared to host headers in http protocol (I didn't find any intelligible information for a non-sysadmins)? The reason I'm asking is because we would like to use one of the IPs in our newsletter script (which works) rather than a name (in order to save DNS requests), and we are wondering about potential problems.

I already install the SMTP server and configured using this tutorial http://www.itsolutionskb.com/2008/11/installing-and-configuring-windows-server-2008-smtp-server/ but when I try to send an email using code, the email gets pickedup from mailroot/pickup and dropped in mailroot/queue and stays in queue forever, it never goes anywhere, I even tried dropping a basic mail.txt file with this in it: to:[email protected] from:[email protected] subject:This is a test. this is a test. still the same thing happens. Is the smtp server not configured right, is their something else I am missing, because this is my first time setting up an smtp server

  • Block SMTP connections from mail domains which don't themselves accept SMTP connection.

    I'm administrating a mail service for a small business. Their mail host's internet connection is an ADSL service with a permanent IP address. Unfortunately, many misconfigured mail systems will happily deliver to this host, but, when the host attempts to send mail back (e.g. a bounce notice, or a normal response from someone), the original sender refuses to receive connections from this host. That misconfiguration makes their system a one-way mail sender, which is a problem. How can I configure Postfix on this customer's mail host to refuse SMTP sessions that declare a sender domain which itself refuses SMTP from this host? That is, if the SMTP client declares a domain that we can't make SMTP connections back to, then there's not much point accepting the incoming connection in the first place. I'm imagining a late check (after the low-cost checks to winnow most of the rubbish connections) that keeps the client on the other end while it attempts an SMTP client connection back to the declared domain of the sender. If that connection is rejected, the incoming one is also rejected. I'm also open to other suggestions for how this problem might be addressed (short of not using this mail host at all, which isn't an option).

  • SMTP Server setting on Windows 2008 R2

    I am very very new to this and just trying to configure SMTP virtual server. I have followed a few threads to get it all running, but the mails are not being delivered. What I have done so far - 1) Install SMTP server. 2) SMTP server Properties General Tab - IP address is set to 'All Unassigned'. Access Tab - Authentication is anonymous access. Everything else is left to Default settings. Delivery Tab - Outbound security is anonymous access. In Advance section, entered the domain name in the FQDN field, and localhost in Smart host field. 3) Created an Inbound Rule for SMTP service to allow connections to Port 25. When I try to telnet, everything works up until the point the mail has to be send. Now, the sender's domain is different to the receiver's domain. Not sure if settings have to be changed to allow that? I had set the Relay restrictions on SMTP server, but because I couldn't send the mails, I thought I might as well make it work without the relay first. The error I see while sending the mail is 451 Timeout waiting for client input. I used to get some other error before when I had Relay restrictions on. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks.

Thanks @mattlant This is a dedicated server that's why I'm installing the SMTP manually. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you.     I'm getting the message: "500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command" from Exchange server and seeing in the Exchange Server logs that it's tarpitting my smtp sender despite the fact that: I added a Receive Connector for my ip that allows connection, uses "Externally Secure" I ran the commands (with the actual server name): CODE: Set-ReceiveConnector "MyTrusted connector (Servername)" -MaxAcknowledgementDelay 0 Set-ReceiveConnector "MyTrusted connector (Servername)" -TarpitInterval 0 Despite all that, it STILL fails! Any idea what's wrong?

  • Problems sending email using .Net's SmtpClient

    I've been looking through questions on Stackoverflow and Serverfault but haven't found the same problem mentioned - though that may be because I just don't know enough about how email works to understand that some of the questions are really the same as mine ... here's my situation: I have a web application that uses .Net's SmtpClient to send email. The configuration of the SmtpClient uses a smtp server, username and password. The SmtpClient code executes on a server that has an ip address not in the domain the smtp server is in. In most cases the emails go without a problem - but not AOL (and maybe others - but that is one we know for sure right now). When I look at the headers in the message that was kicked back from AOL it has one less line than the successful messages hotmail gets: AOL Bad Message: Received: from WEBSVRNAME ([##.###.###.###]) by domainofsmtp.com with MailEnable ESMTP; Mon, 18 Jun 2012 09:48:24 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> ... Good Hotmail Message: Received: from mail.domainofsmtp.com ([###.###.###.###]) by subdomainsof.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.4900); Thu, 21 Jun 2012 09:29:13 -0700 Received: from WEBSVRNAME ([##.###.###.###]) by domainofsmtp.com with MailEnable ESMTP; Thu, 21 Jun 2012 11:29:03 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> ... Notice the hotmail message headers has an additional line. I'm confused as to why the Web server's name and ip address are even in the headers since I thought I was using the SmtpClient to go through the smtp server (hence the need for the username and password of a valid email box). I've read about SPFs, DKIM and SenderID's but at this point I'm not sure if I would need to do something with the web server (and its ip/domain) or the domain the smtp is coming from. Has anyone had to do anything similiar before? Am I using the smtp server as a relay? Any help on how to describe what I'm doing would also help.

    I have two Windows Server 2003 machines sitting in a network. Server B has port 25 open and can relay emails to the local network's smtp server. Server A does not have port 25 open. How can I set it up to send emails through another port to the SMTP server? I am thinking if I can setup a local SMTP communication between my servers on a different port and let Server B send Server A's emails. Is that possible?

    I'd like to setup a postfix host (using RHEL 5.4's default postfix, which is version 2.3) with the following characteristics: an SMTP listener listens on 10.0.0.1:25 and relays all e-mails to 10.0.0.1:2525 an SMTP listener listens on 10.0.0.1:2525 and relays all e-mails to 10.0.0.2:25 Basically the challenge here is to use two different relayhosts for the different SMTP listeners. Is it possible? Is there a better solution to achieve similar behavior?

  • PHPMailer with GMail: SMTP Error

    Hello all, I am making use of PHPMailer to send mail through GMail. The code I use is straight from a tutorial and it works perfectly on my laptop. However, testing this on a Windows 2003 Server - it seems to always return an SMPT error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. Mailer Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. Here is the settings I use in PHPMailer: include("phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php"); $mail = new PHPMailer(); $mail->IsSMTP(); $mail->SMTPAuth = true; // enable SMTP authentication $mail->SMTPSecure = "ssl"; // use ssl $mail->Host = "smtp.gmail.com"; // GMAIL's SMTP server $mail->Port = 465; // SMTP port used by GMAIL server Can I say with confidence that this isn't a port issue, since I am connecting to another server on port 465 and it is sending mail.
