  • SonicPoint AP Clients Not Able To Connect With DHCP

    - by Mike Keller
This is my first time setting up anything like this so please be gentle. I'm a web developer who fell into setting up a few SonicWall NSA 4200's... I've tried doing as much research on this through Google and ServerFault but haven't been able to hunt down an answer as to what I'm doing wrong. We've got two virtual access points set up here, one that is intended for employees (tied to X2) and the other for guests (tied to X2:V1). We are not using the DHCP server on the NSA 4200, but one already on the network. When a client connects to the employee SSID they are able to obtain a IP from the network's DHCP server. However when attempting to connect to the guest SSID the client does a search for a DHCP server but can't find one. Any clues, resources, answers would be appreciated.

  • netsh wlan add profile not importing encrypted passphrase

    - by sirlancelot
I exported a wireless network connection profile from a Windows 7 machine correctly connected to a WiFi network with a WPA-TKIP passphrase. The exported xml file shows the correct settings and a keyMaterial node which I can only guess is the encrypted passphrase. When I take the xml to another Windows 7 computer and import it using netsh wlan add profile filename="WiFi.xml", it correctly adds the profile's SSID and encryption type, but a balloon pops up saying that I need to enter the passphrase. Is there a way to import the passphrase along with all other settings or am I missing something about adding profiles? Here is the exported xml with personal information removed: <?xml version="1.0"?> <WLANProfile xmlns="http://www.microsoft.com/networking/WLAN/profile/v1"> <name>[removed]</name> <SSIDConfig> <SSID> <hex>[removed]</hex> <name>[removed]</name> </SSID> <nonBroadcast>false</nonBroadcast> </SSIDConfig> <connectionType>ESS</connectionType> <connectionMode>auto</connectionMode> <autoSwitch>false</autoSwitch> <MSM> <security> <authEncryption> <authentication>WPAPSK</authentication> <encryption>TKIP</encryption> <useOneX>false</useOneX> </authEncryption> <sharedKey> <keyType>passPhrase</keyType> <protected>true</protected> <keyMaterial>[removed]</keyMaterial> </sharedKey> </security> </MSM> </WLANProfile> Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks. Update: It seems if I export the settings using key=clear, the passphrase is stored in the file unprotected and I can import the file on another computer without issue. I've updated my question to reflect my findings.

  • Cisco 891w multiple VLAN configuration

    - by Jessica
I'm having trouble getting my guest network up. I have VLAN 1 that contains all our network resources (servers, desktops, printers, etc). I have the wireless configured to use VLAN1 but authenticate with wpa2 enterprise. The guest network I just wanted to be open or configured with a simple WPA2 personal password on it's own VLAN2. I've looked at tons of documentation and it should be working but I can't even authenticate on the guest network! I've posted this on cisco's support forum a week ago but no one has really responded. I could really use some help. So if anyone could take a look at the configurations I posted and steer me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful. • netsh wlan add profile not importing passphrase

  • Securing data sent to an unencrypted WiFi AP

    - by David Parunakian
The business plan of a project I'm involved in assumes selling certain WiFi-enabled devices to end users. All these devices originally have an unencrypted connection and a standard SSID. The problem is that although the user can connect to it and set both a new SSID and a WPA passphrase, these are being sent to the AP in plain text and thus can be intercepted by anyone nearby with a sniffer. What's the best solution to this problem, and why? Initially set up an encrypted wireless network at the device and supply the user with a printed passphrase Buy an SSL certificate for the AP's default IP address or local domain name (the APs aren't supposed to work as a router and have a captive portal & dnsmasq installed, so all of them can pretend to be myunit.example.com, as far as I understand) Something different Thank you.

  • Again WPA Connection problem even after changed to latest version ..please help

I am using hostapd, wireless tools with madwifi for my wireless ap in my board. The WEP, WPA-PSK connections and communications between my board with linux and my desktop PC, Windows XP SP2 (with Olitec USB wireless) are fine. But when I configured the WPA type, the connection seems established but shows the status "TKIP - Key Absent" in the security dialog box. Anyone faced this problem? • Wireless internet connection connects but internet does not work (no packets received). Wired does.

    - by Rodney
When I connect my PC via ethernet cable to my ADSL router it works fine. When I connect via Wireless it connects and the internet will work for a random amount of time and then stop working. It stays connected with a strong signal but no packets are received. My laptop/iphone are right next to it and wireless works fine. If I open the Wireless USB status, it says it is connected to my SSID with full strength (54 mps - I am 3 meteres away from my router) and the activty shows as Packets 594 SENT and 105 RECEIVED (this goes up VERY slowly) I have tried the following: Turned off anitvirus and firewall completely. Tested the wifi signal- I am writing this on my laptop which is next to my PC and also has full wifi strength. Tried a different wireless adapter - I dug out an old PCI wireless card - it does the exact same thing. Compared all wireless settings to my laptop. I can ping google.com and it replies (sometimes with packet loss) When I reboot the PC it will connect for a minute or two (random time) and then just stops again. I tried Firefox, IE etc. no joy I have updated all latest versions (Netgear WG111v2) and drivers Checked Event Log - nothing unusual Ping the router (and even connect as admin for the few minutes when the internet does work) Changed the MTU down to 1200 using DrTCP Checked Device Manager for conflicts - none. I ping the router from the PC (192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.1) and it replies with 4 packets. BUT, on my router admin page (which I access via http on my laptop wirelessly) - if I ping 192.168.0.10 all packets timeout (pinging my laptop 192.168.0.12 works fine) My router admin page shows the leased IP address for 192.168.0.10 (ie it is definitely talking to the router initially) Now I am out of ideas - please help. I think it is an OS/Software issue as I have tried 2 different wireless adapaters (PCI and USB) with the same result but all other wireless devices work fine around mine). It's not the firewall. It is getting assigned an IP address correctly (my PC gets 192.168.0.10, my laptop is .12) It is assigned by DHCP. As soon as I plug in the ethernet cable it all works fine. Repairing the adapter sometimes helps but it will always stop working after a random time. The wireless adapter always shows as connected with Excellent signal but the internet does not work. I am running Windows XP SP3 and have tried a Netgear WG111v2 USB adapter. Thanks in advance! UPDATE: The internet seems to be working, it is just either sending packets too small or slow to work (some small pages load bits of them very slowly but then hang). • Laptop connects to other network but not to my home wireless

    - by Nilesh
My home network's wireless SSID is say "XYZ" I also have an ethernet wire from the same router. I have two laptops A and B Earlier both A and B were able to connect to my home internet through the ethernet and wireless. Suddenly, the laptop B can no longer connect to XYZ or through ethernet. When I do plug the wire, i get the connection icon all green but when I try to access any web page it errors out (page not found) But strangely laptop B connects to my neighbours wireless SSID "ABC". I have also tested laptop B with other networks and it connects fine. Laptop A and many other devices still connect fine with my home wireless "XYZ" Strange thing is when my laptop B connects wireless through XYz, it gets the IP address but then none of the browsers (chrome, firefox, IE) can show any web pages. What settings should I be checking on laptop B that is preventing it to connect to my home internet. Thank you

  • Debian Wheezy, hostapd running but no AP detected by clients

    - by f0o
I've an TL-WN951N (AR5416+AR5008) using ath9k module running an hostapd and a dhcp for it. So hostapd starts fine: $ hostapd wifi.test Configuration file: wifi.test Using interface int1 with hwaddr f4:ec:38:9b:d4:93 and ssid 'test' hostapd.conf: interface=int1 driver=nl80211 ssid=test channel=1 But nobody seems to find it or being able to see it or connect to it by setting BSSID to 'test'. I'm quite frustrated now, I find 'howto' after 'howto' from people with same chipsets and it always seemed to work out great for them - but not here... iw list even shows up the AP mode being present at the interface... Thanks for your help

  • Setting up WiFi extenders... is it possible to daisy-chain them?

    - by Bigbio2002
At a location with limited cabling, I've had to set up WiFi signal extenders to cover the whole area. Here is a crude diagram... Internet - WiFi/Gateway - Extender 1 - Extender 2 | | PC (ethernet) WiFi device I was able to successfully daisy-chain three together, and I can access the internet from WiFi devices connected to the farthest extender. Is this a supported configuration? If not, what kind of issues can arise from it? The reason why I ask is that the PC keeps reporting IP address conflicts, and I'm wondering if that's caused because of the way this is configured. Additionally, I noticed that the extenders named their own SSID similar to the one they are connected to, but with a suffix. Would there be any issue in naming them all with the same SSID, to enable seamless roaming as you would with multiple standalone APs?

  • Odd Apple AirPort Express behaviour

    - by MatthewD
I've been using a rather old AirPort Express for home Wi-Fi for a number of years. (It's old enough that it only supports WPA, not WPA2 -- perhaps this is an indication that I should upgrade!) In the last week I've been experiencing very slow internet over the Wi-Fi. Suspecting that someone outside my home was leeching from me (despite a reasonable password and MAC address filtering turned on) I decided to change some settings: I changed the SSID, turned off broadcast of the SSID and changed the password. After these changes, I managed to connect using the new password on my iPad. But on the other devices I tried (iPhone, PS3) I was not able to connect. In fact, I only succeeded in connecting when I entered my OLD password! Is this a known issue with ancient AirPort Express units? Is my unit cracked and unrecoverable?

  • Wireless range extender throughput extremely slow.

    - by Alan B
I've got a Belkin 54G router connected to the internet, and a Belkin range extender model F5D7132. I can get the range extender connected to the parent router SSID no problem, in repeater mode as opposed to access point mode. My Windows 7 laptop connects to the extender, which has a different SSID, and it connects with the full 5 bars. The issue is that when going through the extender internet performance is murderously slow, even getting the config pages of the extender or router is bad. When I connect directly to the router, all is well.

  • Windows 7/8 can't connect to an N Router

    - by xenoterracide
I have a router running OpenWRT backfire, with N and A/B/G being broadcast. A linux laptop, and a Mac laptop can see the N network and connect to it (or at least they could last weekend). But there is now a Windows 7 Desktop with a B/G/N wireless card, and a Windows 8 Laptop with a B/G/N wireless card that can't see the N network only the B/G broadcast. The B/G and N have different SSID's and Encryption ( WEP and WPA2 PSK respectively ). The N SSID isn't even visible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot further? Or what might be the cause? update wireless info Desktop Dell Wireless 1502 802.11b/g/n Atheros Communications Inc 9.2.0.412

  • Windows 7 - saved wifi access points disappear from list

    - by KáGé
I'm having a weird issue with Windows 7 x64: I'm moving my notebook between two locations weekly, at each I have a wifi router. They both have hidden SSID-s, which are different. If I save one, the other one gets deleted from the list, as if overwritten, so I always have to retype the SSID and password, if I want to connect after moving my computer. At first I tought the problem was caused by both routers having the same password, but after I changed one (suffixed it with "_2") it persisted. What can I do about this? Thanks.

  • What is the structure of network managers system-connections files?

    - by Oyks Livede
could anyone list the complete structure of the configuration files, which network manager stores for known networks in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections for known networks? Sample (filename askUbuntu): [connection] id=askUbuntu uuid=81255b2e-bdf1-4bdb-b6f5-b94ef16550cd type=802-11-wireless [802-11-wireless] ssid=askUbuntu mode=infrastructure mac-address=00:08:CA:E6:76:D8 [ipv6] method=auto [ipv4] method=auto I would like to create some of them by my own using a script. However, before doing so I would like to know every possible option. Furthermore, this structure seems somehow to resemble the information you can get using the dbus for active connections. dbus-send --system --print-reply \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ "$active_setting_path" \ # /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/2 org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Settings.Connection.GetSettings Will tell you: array [ dict entry( string "802-11-wireless" array [ dict entry( string "ssid" variant array of bytes "askUbuntu" ) dict entry( string "mode" variant string "infrastructure" ) dict entry( string "mac-address" variant array of bytes [ 00 08 ca e6 76 d8 ] ) dict entry( string "seen-bssids" variant array [ string "02:1A:11:F8:C5:64" string "02:1A:11:FD:1F:EA" ] ) ] ) dict entry( string "connection" array [ dict entry( string "id" variant string "askUbuntu" ) dict entry( string "uuid" variant string "81255b2e-bdf1-4bdb-b6f5-b94ef16550cd" ) dict entry( string "timestamp" variant uint64 1383146668 ) dict entry( string "type" variant string "802-11-wireless" ) ] ) dict entry( string "ipv4" array [ dict entry( string "addresses" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "dns" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "method" variant string "auto" ) dict entry( string "routes" variant array [ ] ) ] ) dict entry( string "ipv6" array [ dict entry( string "addresses" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "dns" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "method" variant string "auto" ) dict entry( string "routes" variant array [ ] ) ] ) ] I can create new setting files using the dbus (AddSettings() in /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings) passing this type of input, so explaining me this structure and telling me all possible options will also help. Afaik, this is a Dictionary{String, Dictionary{String, Variant}}. Will there be any difference creating config files directly or using the dbus?

  • FreeBSD 8.0 - Macbook: Trying to Connect to Wireless

    - by Koroviev
What Happened A few days ago I installed FreeBSD 8from USB to my Macbook (Core Duo, 13"). The first thing I wanted to do was get my GUI back. I'm new to FreeBSD and it's my first time off of mac or windows, so I had some learning to do. I tried to a make clean install of xorg with ports but it returned many "No address record" errors. I realised I hadn't configured network settings and then the fun started. I ran ifconfig and it found 5 devices: msk0, ath0, fwe0, fwip0, lo0. * ath0 was identified as media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect so it was clear which one I needed. From what I gathered, there are 3 files and two processes involved here: /boot/loader.conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf /etc/rc.conf /etc/rc.d/netif wpa_supplicant (which is a part of the former too) I'm certain it's a big simplification, so correct me if I'm wrong here. What I Tried I configured /boot/loader.conf with the few basic settings, and I'm most sure that this file is okay. The other 2 were more puzzling. I tried to make a network package in wpa_supplicant.conf. I found the ssid of the router, but the security wasn't so easy. The routers configuration on security is set to "Auto", with no explanation given. Other options are there, but Auto is selected. Another laptop uses WEP to connect (it's Vista, so I don't know how to get any more info than that), but I never configured it to do it. There's a string labled "wireless key" on the bottom of the router which I entered to set it up a new machine on the network (Windows and Macs, so it was simplified). I never had to choose a security type and only learned about them by installing FreeBSD. So perhaps WEP is what "Auto" means, but I can't find any other evidence. wpa_supplicant.conf seemed to never be correctly configured. I always got errors related to it and WPA_supplicant doesn't work. It gave me "Can't disable/enable WPA in the driver" errors and more once when I enabled -d -d. This was when I was trying some suspect configurations in rc.conf though. Usually it does nothing except hijack the shell and print "CTRL-SCAN-EVENT-RESULT" every 10 seconds. I learned how to clone the ath0 device to a wlandev interface (wlan0). ath0 is associated to it and their connection seems to go smoothly. But the wlan0's connection to the network is the problem. I couldn't create this with rc.conf, I do something wrong and get ifconfig: create: bad value errors whenever it's parsed. I did it via the shell instead. What Now? I scanned with wlan0 today: ifconfig wlan0 list scan It shows my router, even my neighbour's router. It was a relief to finally get some feedback. So wlan0 is UP and detects the router, but it is always status: no carrier. It can't associate with it and I can't figure out why. Running /etc/rc.d/netif start returns almost the same result as ifconfig would. It shows lo0 and wlan0, and sometimes ath0. I still not sure what lo0 is doing. So; how do I associate with it? We can assume it's WEP security based on how the other laptop is setup. I'll give every relevant output here. After boot, with a blank rc.conf this is what ifconfig returns: msk0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=11a<TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,TSO4> ether 00:17:f2:29:89:3b media: Ethernet autoselect ath0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 2290 ether 00:16:cb:bb:fe:65 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (autoselect) status: no carrier fwe0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=8<VLAN_MTU> ether 02:17:f2:60:ad:7e ch 1 dma -1 fwip0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 lladdr 0.17.f2.ff.fe.60.ad.7e.a.2.ff.fe.0.0.0.0 lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384 options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM> inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 I run: ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev ath0 It returns: wlan0: bpf attached wlan0: bpf attached wlan0: Ethernet address: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Ifconfig now returns: msk0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=11a<TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,TSO4> ether 00:17:f2:29:89:3b media: Ethernet autoselect ath0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 2290 ether 00:16:cb:bb:fe:65 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (autoselect) status: no carrier fwe0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=8<VLAN_MTU> ether 02:17:f2:60:ad:7e ch 1 dma -1 fwip0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 lladdr 0.17.f2.ff.fe.60.ad.7e.a.2.ff.fe.0.0.0.0 lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384 options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM> inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 wlan0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 ether 00:16:cb:bb:fe:65 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (autoselect) status: no carrier ssid "" channel 1 (2412 Mhz 11b) regdomain 106 indoor ecm authmode OPEN privacy OFF txpower 20 bmiss 7 scanvalid 60 bgscan bgscanintvl 300 bgscanidle 250 roam:rssi 7 roam:rate 1 wme burst bintval 0 I run: ifconfig wlan0 up ifconfig wlan0 scan It finds my router and displays its details. I can feed it my routers details now, using: ifconfig wlan0 key value key value ... They show up in wlan0 when I run ifconfig, but it still doesn't associate. What details should I feed it, what exactly is needed? What, if anything, should I have in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (and if that psk is needed, is it most likely the string I mentioned above)? If I define the ssid in wpa_supplicant.conf, should I still feed it to wlan0? What process should I then use to associate it? 5 .How should I add these things to rc.conf so it will automatically do this at boot? A huge thank you in advance for any help you can give, I've spent hours crawling about the shell and I've learned quite a bit from it (I finally got the hang of vi too, from all that editing). But the sooner this is fixed, the better. *P.S. I was, and still am, wondering where the extra three devices come from (the wireless and wired were all I expected to find). lo0 is up at each boot and /etc/rc.d/netif, I have no idea what it is and can't find it in dmesg. Resources: /etc/loader.conf: Code: if_ath_load="YES" wlan_wep_load="YES" wlan_ccmp_load="YES" wlan_tkip_load="YES" /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (I emptied it of everything unnecessary, because I was just causing errors) network={ ssid="BTVOYAGER2110-1C" } /etc/rc.conf has no network settings, I commented them out because of errors. There was my attempt to clone ath0 and feed it info, but I did if via the shell instead. I've included the output of dmesg as an attachment, in case it's useful. I'd include the boot text (which appears before login) but I don't know how to catch it into a text file. If it's needed and somebody tells me how, I will (actually, even if it's not needed, how can I view it to read?).

  • Android - How to scan Access Points and select strongest signal?

    - by Donal Rafferty
I am currently trying to write a class in Android that will Scan for access points, calculate which access point has the best signal and then connect to that access point. So the application will be able to scan on the move and attach to new access points on the go. I have the scanning and calculation of the best signal working. But when it comes to attaching to the best access point I am having trouble. It appears that enableNetwork(netid, othersTrueFalse) is the only method for attaching to an Access point but this causes problems as from my Scan Results I am not able to get the id of the access point with the strongest signal. This is my code: public void doWifiScan(){ scanTask = new TimerTask() { public void run() { handler.post(new Runnable() { public void run() { sResults = wifiManager.scan(getBaseContext()); if(sResults!=null) Log.d("TIMER", "sResults count" + sResults.size()); ScanResult scan = wifiManager.calculateBestAP(sResults); wifiManager.addNewAccessPoint(scan); } }); }}; t.schedule(scanTask, 3000, 30000); } public ScanResult calculateBestAP(List<ScanResult> sResults){ ScanResult bestSignal = null; for (ScanResult result : sResults) { if (bestSignal == null || WifiManager.compareSignalLevel(bestSignal.level, result.level) < 0) bestSignal = result; } String message = String.format("%s networks found. %s is the strongest. %s is the bsid", sResults.size(), bestSignal.SSID, bestSignal.BSSID); Log.d("sResult", message); return bestSignal; } public void addNewAccessPoint(ScanResult scanResult){ WifiConfiguration wc = new WifiConfiguration(); wc.SSID = '\"' + scanResult.SSID + '\"'; //wc.preSharedKey = "\"password\""; wc.hiddenSSID = true; wc.status = WifiConfiguration.Status.ENABLED; wc.allowedGroupCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.GroupCipher.TKIP); wc.allowedGroupCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.GroupCipher.CCMP); wc.allowedKeyManagement.set(WifiConfiguration.KeyMgmt.WPA_PSK); wc.allowedPairwiseCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.PairwiseCipher.TKIP); wc.allowedPairwiseCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.PairwiseCipher.CCMP); wc.allowedProtocols.set(WifiConfiguration.Protocol.RSN); int res = mainWifi.addNetwork(wc); Log.d("WifiPreference", "add Network returned " + res ); boolean b = mainWifi.enableNetwork(res, false); Log.d("WifiPreference", "enableNetwork returned " + b ); } When I try to use addNewAccessPoint(ScanResult scanResult) it just adds another AP to the list in the settings application with the same name as the one with the best signal, so I end up with loads of duplicates and not actually attaching to them. Can anyone point me in the direction of a better solution?

Im having problems connecting my wifi in Ubuntu 13.04 So i was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe i put in the wrong data or maybe not enough Would that make it work?? I just dont know how to find out some of the data you need to put in or if im putting the wrong stuff in??? Im new and its confusing. does anyone know the solution?

  • Use same dns server for all (future) connections

    - by kleofas
I'm wondering if it is possible to specify, that all connections (even future, like when using wifi at some other place (=different SSID)) will be using pre-defined DNS server When I have some (concrete) connections, I could go to IPv4 settings, and specify DNS server there (however, in case of new connection I would have to do it (and not forget it)) This may be particularly useful for some safe/filtering dns (such as opendns's 208.67.222.123 & 208.67.220.123)

  • Wireless connection by using command screen

    - by Amadeus
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 armhf to my beagleboard-xm and now trying to connect to a wireless network. First, I checked if I can search for available networks: ubuntu@arm:~$ iwlist scan lo Interface doesn't support scanning. usb0 Interface doesn't support scanning. wlan0 Scan completed : Cell 01 - Address: EA:7D:EF:60:C9:0B Channel:1 Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1) Quality=70/70 Signal level=-23 dBm Encryption key:on ESSID:"ghostrider" Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s Bit Rates:6 Mb/s; 9 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 48 Mb/s Mode:Ad-Hoc Extra:tsf=000000005a1ab50e Extra: Last beacon: 6242ms ago IE: Unknown: 000A67686F73747269646572 IE: Unknown: 010882848B962430486C IE: Unknown: 030101 IE: Unknown: 06020000 IE: Unknown: 2A0100 IE: Unknown: 2F0100 IE: Unknown: 32040C121860 IE: Unknown: 2D1A2C181BFF00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 IE: Unknown: 3D16010800000000FF000000000000000000000000000000 IE: Unknown: DD09001018020000000000 Then I edited /etc/network/interfaces file to the following: root@arm:/etc/wpa_supplicant# cat /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp # Example to keep MAC address between reboots #hwaddress ether DE:AD:BE:EF:CA:FE # WiFi Example auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-ssid "ghostrider" wpa-psk "b34d373eb2fb836a43b0afffe783c7d0af694724506c9e77b06d1021302905bf" But I cannot still connect to the wireless network: root@arm:/etc/wpa_supplicant# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. usb0 no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Asociated Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:on eth0 no wireless extensions. root@arm:/etc/network# ifup wlan0 Failed to bring up wlan0. What is wrong? Should I change any other files also? But I think it was enough. Regards, Amadeus ps: Also I tried to connect manually: root@arm:/etc/network# iwconfig wlan0 essid ghostrider key s:34bddf67c2 But this did not solve my problem also.

  • How to configure a Router (TL-WR1043ND) to work in WDS mode?

    - by LanceBaynes
I have a WRT160NL router (192.168.1.0/24 - OpenWrt 10.04) as AP. It's: - WAN port: connected to the ISP - WLAN: working as an AP, using 64 bit WEP/SSID: "MYWORKINGSSID", channel 5, using password: "MYPASSWORDHERE" - It's IP Address is: 192.168.1.1 Ok! It's working great! But: I have a TL-WR1043ND router that I want to configure as a "WDS". (My purpose is to extend the wireless range of the original WRT160NL.) Here is how I configure the TL-WR1043ND: 1) I enable WDS bridging. 2) In the "Survey" I select my already working network. 3) I set up the encryption (exact same like the already working one) 4) I choose channel 5 5) I type the SSID 6) I disable the DHCP server on it. After I reboot the router and connect to this router (TL-WR1043ND) over wireless I'm trying to ping google.com. From the ping I see that I can reach this router, that's ok, but it seems like that this router can't connect to the original one, the WRT160NL (so I don't get ping reply from Google). The encryption settings/password is good I checked it many-many-many times. what could be the problem? I'm thinking it could be a routing problem, but what should I add to the "Static Routing" menu? I tried to change the IP address of the TL-WR1043ND to: 192.168.1.2 So if this a routing issue then I should add a static routing rule that says: If destination: any then forward the packet to 192.168.1.1 p.s.: I updated the Firmware to the latest version. It's still the same. p.s.2: The HW version of the TL-WR1043ND is 1.8 p.s.3: Could that be the problem that I use different routers? (If I would buy.. another TL-WR1043ND and use it instead of the WRT160NL, and with normal Firmware, not OpenWrt, then it would work?? The "WDS" is different on different routers?) p.s.4: I will try to check the router logs@night - and paste it here! :\

  • Domain authentication over OPEN wireless pre-logon (Windows 7 Pro) - No logon servers avail

    - by Shadow00Caster
I have a plethora of laptops that are joined to an AD domain. I have an enterprise wireless system setup, the users of these laptops will be using an OPEN unsecured SSID which will ultimately have a captive portal that uses Radius-AD auth and firewall rules to allow access pre-captive portal auth to the proper ip's/ports of DC's etc for auth etc. I already have other laptops/users connecting to another SSID with 802.11x and SSO, all works perfectly pre-logon etc. My problem is with this open network, for some reason I cannot get the machines to auth to AD. The laptops connect to the wireless network, I confirm this on the controller and can ping the laptop at startup. I sharked the wires on the 2 DC's that these machines auth to, I can see a DNS SOA update from a laptop im testing with and can ping that test laptop from both DC's. When I try to logon, "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request." The shark shows no incoming connections to either DC even though the laptop is connected and pingable. Any help is greatly appreciated.
